Zero 2 and Zero 3 are mostly great but yeah, music has never been Inti's strong suit.
I like Zero and ZX music, for me it's more that Gunvolt music just goes in one ear and through the other.

The problem is that inticreates tries too hard to fit the music to the situation or area, old megaman game music just made good music for the sake of it which is why it sounds good no matter where you listen to it.
Ever since their first game they have just kind of wanted to make playable anime, if that makes sense. They were held back from those ambitions just enough with GBA's specs for Mega Man Zero, but they immediately tried to lean more into that from there on.
Yeah Inti is more into the idea of anime than most anime game devs. It's only by some miracle that they are also obsessed with 2D platformers and try to innovate this and that to keep things fresh. While part of me wishes they stuck to more grounded playstyles like MMZ, they could have easily fallen into the lazy "it's a hecking pixelated 2D platformer just like your childhood!" garbo we get from a lot of indie devs, so I'm glad they're always trying new things with old genres.
I can still hear the music from mmx 1-4 in my head.

There's an interview about ZXC but I don't know where it is. Apparently the game was mostly finished before it got canned.
