The fan translation group Hilltop Works has announced that it is translating the Japanese-exclusive prologue to Mega Man Legends 2 into English.
If you're a Mega Man Legends fan, you might already be aware that Mega Man Legends 2 has a somewhat unusual name in Japan, being released in the country under the title Rockman Dash 2 - Episode 2: Ōinaru Isan.
This title came about as Japan actually got its own exclusive prologue to the game, which was first distributed as a bonus disc for the Mega Man Legends spin-off Tron ni Kobun (under the title Episode One: Roll-Chan Kiki Ippatsu) before later appearing as part of the 2005 PSP port.

k.. keep me posted
Fricking FINALLY
I never played any of these. Who plays games? I just talk about games on the internet.
WHAT OMFG
I've wanted this forever. How long is it doesn't anyone know?
Should be about 30-40 tops. It's just a short fight through Servbot tanks and turrets (you're given some weapons and upgrades for the demo) and then a fight with Tron's crab mecha from Legends 2.
Adding to that, the demo is mostly remembered for OP's image. Tron demands that Rock join the Sky Pirates and if the player says Yes, it cuts to the scene where they're running hand-in-hand while shooting everybody. Then it returns to reality where Rock refuses her offer and the demo proceeds as normal.
That sounds beyond fricking kino.
Fricking crazy that the Misadventures of Tronne Bonne is a several hundred dollar game these days. I remember seeing it in a store as a kid and thinking, "Oh, what's that?"
In any case, if I wanted to play the Legends games, assuming no language barriers whatsoever, what versions would anons recommend?
Links to sources and patches?
>Fricking crazy that the Misadventures of Tronne Bonne is a several hundred dollar game these days
I will always be a little bit sour knowing I didn't hold onto my copy. But I'm just glad I got to not only enjoy the game as a dumb kid, but finally finish it later in life.
I think it was $5USD on the PSN store as a Playstation Classic. I would say play it however you can to figure out if you are captured by the games' charm.
It got C&D'd by Capcom. Hideki Ishikawa even contributed some artwork for it.
Anywhere I can see the art?
I believe the boorus had it tagged under ishikawa_hideki. You'll also see a lot of Mega Man porn he's drawn.

Neat
30-40 what?
Minutes. It's very short.
The psp version?
The ps1 games dont support subtitles
They coded subtitles, which means undubs for the PS1 originals are now possible
That's pretty neat. Not many translations go as far as implementing subtitles, one example that always comes to mind is Tales of Phantasia.
I found the dub of Legends pretty charming. It adds to that Saturday morning cartoon vibe the game has.
Theres no way thats easier than just translating the psp versions...
Depends. PSP games are basically solved, while PS1 hacks are still hit or miss on console (ie even the semi-recent MOON translation crashes on console).
The last thing I knew about the PSP versions was that the text was compressed/encrypted
Hilltop has apparently been making great strides in solving PS1 hacking. Also iirc the PSP ports are kind of a mess coding-wise and also I don't think the prologue has a PSP version.
if I recall the Moon patch is unstable because it wasn't finished properly. I think they stopped working on it after the announcement of the Switch port/loc
Same, but it'd be cool to have the option for replays.
Psp dash 2 has everything on one disk
I had no idea it never made it to English speaking versions. Or is this a retranslation project? I'll support it just for more of the Dash series since we were so denied the 3rd entry that the fans were making.
>fan translation group has announced that it called dibs on this game
'kay see you in 30 years when the game is still listed as "10% in progress" on their website and nobody else will translate it because "they're working on it".

Princess Crown.
What's the status on that?

Damn I was hoping someone would translate the psp version. Saturn is a pain to emulate.
>Saturn is a pain to emulate
Mednafen + Mednaffe, easy.
its already out, inafune schizo
Neat
Protodouche is going to gay it up i bet.
wake me up when they translate Rockman Dash for PSP
For why?
because its best the version
But why exactly? I know Legends 2 has lower prices and smoother underwater play on PSP, but those got patched into the PS1 version.
Widescreen, native resolution of PSP screen, and better controls for playing it on PSP. It's an improvement over emulating a PSX version eboot on PSP.
Fricking nice, looking forward to it.
They could have used this effort to translate a better PS1 game
What a waste
I've beaten it. For the record there is like 45mins of exclusive content here, including a really shitty dungeon with simple copy pasted corridors and rooms. But the last scenario is cool, it has cutscenes not seen in the finalg ame and there are a couple of cool outdoor areas too (and I think even a couple of exclusive enemies?)
Anyway it's just a demo nothing to fuss about
It's more the fact it's "Episode 1" and as such had a exclusive small side story, while the full retail was sold in Japan as "Episode 2".
That's just marketing bullshit to get people to buy Tron Bonne.
It's a glorified demo, and missing the "side story" doesn't make you miss anything from the game. In fact, it doesn't even connect to the main game's story well (when is it supposed to take place?! It's completely disconnected)
I wish more demos had been their own little independent episodes. Show off how the new game plays, maybe use the demo as a prologue, maybe let you transfer over completion data to the main game to unlock a goody.
I like the artstyle in this game but too bad I find the main character too fricking lame to want to play it. It has FFX syndrome.
Legends 2 was weird. They gave megaman the same female voice actress as sailor Mars or Jupiter or whoever
She also had voiced Mayor Amelia in Legends 1. the reason being, his voice actor from Legends 1 was 14 during L1 itself, just like Rock Volnutt was, but by L2, he was 16 and his voice became DEEP.
god PLEASE give us retranslations of the other dash games
>HillSlop
nah frick that moron and frick the even more moronic morons who work for him for free while he rakes in all the Patreonbux for his self.
A project like this does sound like the perfect patreon bait. Low effort, it's just a fricking demo with 5 lines of dialogues, 2 cutscenes and 3 menus; but high advertising
I have never played a Mega Man game.
False gamer
Based "I have never played x game" poster
I don't like Megaman but i like Megaman Legends
See you in my dreams
>check translation
>is troonyslation
Well going back to play it in japanese.
how did they ruin it?
