Megaman X8

Let’s discuss the swansong of the beloved but troubled Megaman X series, X8. I’m trying to slog through this piece of shit RN, I hate the aesthetics & level design but the gameplay is starting to grow on me. The music is good too.

What does /vr/ think about this one? Is it worth going for 100% and unlocking stuff, or is it a chore just to finish the damn thing?

100% is an absolute chore in this one, don't bother unless you're fine with grinding or want to use the cheat to get infinite metals. If you want to enjoy it, just play it normally.

I never once grinded in that game and i beat it on hard

I meant for 100%, grinding isn't really needed if you're just focused on beating it.

X8 is a highly kino game. Great platforming, great combat, great art style, and great music. Layer is a babe and I want to motorboat myself to death between her brestés. Alia is a babe in this too and I love that posh Canadian accent, really makes the blood vessels in my wiener burst listening to her.
What did Lumine imbue Axl with? What happens next?

I had the same feelings towards this game. I hate the aesthetics too, it's probably the ugliest megaman ever, but i ended up enjoyed the game... it's better than 5 or 7 at least.

I like X8, how is it a slog? Unlike X7 at least the controls respond and Axl isn't gimped X but an actual gameplay character

Some of the levels are just painful to trek through. One was just fighting the same goofy little enemy over and over. Another just had basic, mindless platforming. But then theres one that I finished in 4 minutes (!).

It’s definitely better than X7, but worse than the other 6. I do like that Vile is back and that I can use X and Zero as much as I want on the same level. And that I can just completely ignore Axl altogether.

X8's soundtrack really feels like a swansong for the series. The guitars have a certain melancholy to them in every song, especially Lumine's 2nd Form theme.

Gateway is the most melancholic track ever for a Mega Man sidescroller game methinks, and it's used on the Boss Rush stage of all things.

Such an amazing OST. The Mega Man series never disappoints. Indeed its melancholic, even the most dynamic songs have the this feel.

I think the staff saw the writing on the wall, that X7 had done a really bad blow to the series' viability. Similar to how BN6 has a more melancholic OST, the town theme "Central City", in all it's GBA chiptune melody, eerily melancholic and sad compared to the more upbeat ACDC Town.

Kinda meh, the three characters and partner system is nice, bosses are interesting, but levels are too gimmicky for the most part. This is a game you have to learn to enjoy, and it does require overlooking design issues. I put it on par with the bland mediocrity of X4 and above what came after that one, not that's saying much.

Okay, now that I’ve finished the game I have determined that I like it. Not as much as X5 or X6, but it’s good. Just took some getting used to
