Megas were not a gimmick. They are POKEMON.

Megas were not a gimmick.
They are POKEMON.

They did not return in gen 8 for the same reason many other POKEMON did not return in gen 8 (dexit).

They didn’t return because Gen 8 and 9 take place in the timeline where Megas don’t exist.

      Roaring Moon's Violet dex entry:
      >According to an article in a dubious magazine, this Pokémon has some connection to a phenomenon that occurs in a certain region.
This implies that Megas do exist in that timeline, but since the magazine's claims are considered dubious, it could also very well not exist or be seen as a myth.

This magazine implies that mega evolution can only occur in specific regions. So basically
        >Kanto
        >Hoenn
        >Kalos
        >Alola
This confirms that megas will be making their triumphant return in Let's Go Wooper/Togepi and will likely, finally, include megas for the Johto starters. Since Kanto and Johto are connected.
Instead of megas BW3/Unova remakes will keep tera from Paldea and likely connect it to the type gems in some way.

      >Timelines
I swear to God the only reason the timeline argument is made it's to justify cut content and not for a gameplay purpose.
Please seek mental help, you're actually deficient.

It's also there to justify inconsistent lore between entries.

That's moronic. If they wanted Megas to be in the game they simply would have made them taken place in the timeline that does have them.
Also, doesn't Roaring Moon reference Mega Salamence? That seems like proof that gen 9 is in fact in the Mega timeline

Because of the damn mega evolutions, many of me start to hate many pokemon that I liked before and also others that I would have given at least a chance.

For every 1 shitmon that got something it needed in a mega evolution, 2 already overpowered Pokemon got their own megas.

Genuinely: why does this matter? I would have preferred a different distribution, as well, but this complaint has always been a weak criticism of megas, overall. Time would have corrected the issue (somewhat) if they hadn’t dropped the mechanic entirely.

I had a lot of fun with megas in the Maison and Tree. More fun than steamrolling the SWSH tower with dynamaxed shitmon. More fun that unsung Tera in…SV’s story lmao. That’s all that really matters to me.

        >why does this matter?
Because the main argument in favor of megas was that they were helping to fix shitmons when by and large it was just the rich getting richer.

I hate this “rich get richer” meme argument that the value of a mechanic is purely whether or not it makes shitmons better. There are only 6 team slots, there will be the same rough number of “good Pokemon” no matter what.
The problem with megas is that
          >they were too fricking strong relative to anything else
          >they added no strategic value
          >one per team rule meant you’d only EVER be using the strongest ones

          >when by and large it was just the rich getting richer.
I've been seeing this everywhere the past few months and I'm almost certain it's from a youtuber
When you talk about already-good Pokemon getting a mega, which Pokemon specifically do you think are actually good? Charizard and Lucario?

            Anonymous

CHARIZARD was broken in Gen 2 due to Belly Drum, even more broken in Gen3, ans only fell of slightly due to sneaky pebbles. Lucario was always a broken shillmon.

            >rich get richer
            >most broken one was mawile and kangakshan
            hmmmmmmmmmmmm

The mega CHARIZARDs were the most broken ones althougheverbiet.

Megas are awesome, but if anything there should have been fewer of them. I believe fewer people would complain about them if they stuck to series icons instead of giving them to a bunch of random (mostly gen 3) Pokémon

megas are a gimmick and you're gonna have to live with that truth forever whether or not you like it, because they sure as hell aren't coming back until kalos does, and they definitely won't come back after
