>"MEMBER HIM FROM BLACK MESA??"
>boring driving section
>DUDE HAVOK PHYSICS LMAO
>boring gunfights
Why is it so revered, exactly? It's worse than even the gearbox expansions.
>"MEMBER HIM FROM BLACK MESA??"
>boring driving section
>DUDE HAVOK PHYSICS LMAO
>boring gunfights
Why is it so revered, exactly? It's worse than even the gearbox expansions.
It's because they didn't have Palworld back then.
it's fricking trash as a game
it's amazing as an engine demo though
why its revered? because it's a highly anticipated sequel that didnt suck and was the progeny of one of the most important games at the time. also marketing
>it's fricking trash as a game
frick off. it's a decent shooter with some fun gimmicks. not everything has to be quake 3 arena.
>Put some heavy thing on a platform
>Put a plug in an outlet
Wow amazing gimmicks, thank you based half life 2
so just like unreal then minus the sequel part
Havok physics are literally still to this day the best physics in games and Valve doesn't get enough credit for making it
because they didnt fricking make it you moron
love this game
i love gravity gun
no other game has the same feeling
god i love doming combine with radiators and bricks
You posted episode 2, an actual video game trying to be fun instead of a tech demo for investors.
My bad, here.
>investors
Valve is a private company
>you can’t invest capital into private companies
Wow! Wow wow wow!
back in the day nobody else even had physics.
you went from static everything shit to shit flying everywhere all over the place.
>Nobody else even had this same licensed industry standard physics engine that prevented Source from being a viable commercial game engine because havok demanded a 20k royalty fee for every paid source game
?
not a lot of games exploited the physics engine as part of their gameplay like hl2 did, and the few rare ones that do are so clunky and/or look like shit
and i say this as someone who vastly prefers hl1 to hl2
And most games today still underutilize physics
I replayed it last year and pacing isn't that bad, but hf1 was better paced
>and pacing isn't that bad,
When it isn't stopping you to have *not* cutscenes it has fifteen minutes of garbage vehicle sections to make sure morons know how to use them properly.
i don't like how everyone calls you "Doctor Freeman" when they never did that in the first game
holy shid gordot breeman
It was amazing at the time. That's all there is to it. You're fricking stupid.
If you have to add
>for its time
to elaborate why a game is good it means it's not good
Mario 3 for example is not good for its time, it's just good.
the answer is goat atmosphere combined with creative novelty uncommon in the genre.
>Why is it so revered
SOUL
you are cancer
>not appreciating good level design
homosexual
half life 2 is somewhat novel in it being a modern linear cinematic shooter designed entirely around pc with console versions left as an afterthought. I think this gave its setpieces and gimmicks an elegant free form quality that its console port imitators could never feasibly match.
Zoomer back in those days people could enjoy a classic without having their opinions fed to them by YouTubers or randoms online
i remember that era, cs 1.6 was a giant, everyone know about it. now the makers of it are releasing the modern version of it hype was unreal and the engine devilered great games.
only played hl1 once when released and didnt care about it, its not about the specific game but all that came with it. shame modding isnt as big as it was
>download hl1
>wow this game is great but it's a shame there wont be gravity gun puzzles
>get to the first puzzle
>move a box by pushing it
>realize the truth about the gravity gun
>zoomoid with ADHD and brainrot
>can't find joy in anything and everything is boring
>le how can anyone enjoy things that I don't like because I'm a moron?! this don't make any sense!
It's, like superfun.
The part where the gravity gun gets blue feels amazing
I got sad when I played bioshock and the telekinesis plasmid didn't feel nearly as good as the gravity gun
highway 17 is the best part of the game though
replayed it so many times its unreal
I thought it was okay but I poured hundreds of hours into Deathmatch mode, especially community maps
>Mario 64 - 2D to 3D transition
>GoldenEye - First good console FPS
>Ocarina of Time - 2D to 3D transition
>SoulCalibur - First console port superior to arcade
>Majora's Mask - Revolutionary gameplay innovation
>Grand Theft Auto III - 2D to 3D transition
>Metroid Prime - 2D to 3D transition
>Star Wars KOTOR - the first Star Wars RPG
>Half-Life 2 - Revolutionary gameplay innovation
>Resident Evil 4 - Near perfect level design
>Oblivion - Twilight Princess flopped so it won by default
>Bioshock - Impressive world design / narrative
zoomers dont understand
Because it appealed to normies (cutting 90% of the edgy beta to do so) and normies only play a game once. On a second playthrough it suffers huge pacing and gameplay issues.
Its just kind of an ok game but the source mods were incredible. Was basically the quake of its era.
quake was the quake of hl2's era wtf are you talking about moron shut the frick up
Nobody still played quake by then.
Open world Half-Life game
