>how does the writing quality compare to the base game?
both are shit so...
It's comparable with EE writing
It's funny to hear people hype up Baldur's Gate writing as if it was anything special at all.
>My son, come we must leave because there are assassins everywhere, even outside the walls!
>Oh no by the gods there were assasains outside the walls! Guess I'll die now instead of casting dimension door.
Shit tier.
Literal smoothbrain. You didn't even notice they were set up by Elminster. (The real villain of the series.)
You're full of shit
>even outside the walls!
You mean inside the walls.
I guess but either work.
When it comes down to it the inciting incident of BG is fricking moronic and holding it up as some sort of paragon of storytelling is fricking moronic.
You probably noticed the modding community around the first game wasn't anywhere near the size of the modding community of the 2nd game.
It's the 2nd game they are passionate about.
I only installed BGT to have that smooth transition between the 2 games. The only issue with that is i'm going to have to play through SOD to get to BG2. That's if i decide it's worth playing through the entirety of Bg1 because so far XP has been pretty fricking hard to come by. I'm actually somewhat interested in the story so I guess it's better than the writing in Kingmaker, not that KM is a very high bar for writing standards. I'm just amazed that all the people who have been talking shit about Larian's writing and gameplay actually didn't have legs to stand on because from where i'm standing BG3 is better in every single way when compared to it's predecessor and it's not even out yet. It must be nostalgia goggles.
>BG3 is better in every single way when compared to it's predecessor
This is a troll, right? Did you just judge the 2nd game based on the contents in the 1st game?
This is a new low for Larian employees..
This is a troll right? Are you judging Baldur's Gate 3 based on Early Access content before the game is even completed?
This is a new low for Bioware employees.
>Are you judging Baldur's Gate 3 based on Early Access content before the game is even completed?
Lots of people do that. Why release early access if you don't want people to form their opinion about your game?
I'm just pointing out your hypocrisy, nothing more nothing less. The inciting incident for Baldur's Gate 2 is Baldur's Gate one and to act like they aren't connected is moronic. I'll judge the second game when i get to it, but as of now, the first game's writing is worse than the sneak preview we've gotten to see from BG3, all the way from the inciting incident to the Iron Throne.
>and to act like they aren't connected is moronic
That's not what I did. And now I have to explain how the two games had to completely different budgets because there is no way you could grasp what's going on in the real world otherwise.
So yeah, this 23 year old game you think is shit was build from the ground up and had different priorities than the 2nd game. Different means of resources, the developers had to build the framework first and didn't have money to spend on the other aspects.
The 2nd game didn't need to do that, they could build on the first game and invest their resources into the writing and plot designs. And they probably had a much bigger budget as well.
Same way Larian employees recycle their tools from their Divinity games to create a BG skin.
You guys have the luxury of being pampered by WotC as your sugar daddy.
> I'll judge the second game when i get to it
No, you already judged it based on the writing of the first game, you admitted this much.
>You guys
Oof so you really are a bioware employee?
No, but see
You clearly have an axe to grind with the Owlcat games.
And you're clearly here with Bioware on your agenda as well.
Logic suggests you are a Larian shill who is upset about expectations of the fanbase and upset about a competitor.
You couldn't possibly be a fan of these games, otherwise you would have known the people who worked on BG2 no nothing to do with current EA/Bioware.
You're just a random outsiders who is hired by Larian, and you have determined current Bioware is your boogeyman.
Hilarious that you're calling me a boogeyman while accusing me of doing the same. I was making a joke. I'm just an autist who has spent way too much time on Ganker and Ganker listening to people compare DOS or BG3 to the older games, not realizing the older games they praise have flaws in their writing. So yeah, i whiteknight for Larian because they're the company that made me appreciate cRPGs in the first place, like old Bioware probably did for you.
Gorion's plan wasn't at all stupid, even if running straight into Sarevok feels a little bit contrived. Then again, he was obviously watching Candlekeep to ambush you as soon as you leave.
...Oh god, you didn't even make it to the Friendly Arm yet, did you?
At least play the fricking game before criticizing the story and polluting the board with your rampant stupidity. Larian will still be there for you to fellate after.
>didn't even make it to the Friendly Arm yet
Not even going to dignify that with a response
>Gorion's plan wasn't at all stupid
Still doesn't make sense that he didn't just cast dimension door on you and himself to run from Sarevok, and that's before getting into why he didn't bring others to help protect a Bhaalspawn.
>Still doesn't make sense that he didn't just cast dimension door on you and himself to run from Sarevok
This isn't how spell memorisation works, you have to rest before you can access the other spells yo dind't plan for, unless you are a sorcerer.
>...Oh god, you didn't even make it to the Friendly Arm yet, did you?
Since he is talking about the Iron Throne, I suspect he is right before or in BG city. But he behaves like a stereotypical lariaBlack person:
>BG1 is a better written game than Kingmaker
Yeah, that's obviously true. In fact, BG1 has a surprisingly good plot even if it's not well prese...
>HOWEVER Larian's writing is so fricking superior, I love BG3, it's much better than the established cult classic, let me suck Swen's wiener
This Anon hits the nail.
>so fricking superior
It actually isn't that much better, at least in the DOS games. In BG3 it blows everything i've seen so far in BG1 out of the water.
Read the novels, you'll develop such an appreciation for the writing in the games that'll you'll never question it again.
Mods are fan creations, so that's likely where you should place the expectations.
But BG fans might actually be autistic enough to get it well done. So there is that too.
It's Saerileth level of cringe.
Never tried it myself but from what people posted about it in screenshots it is something like:
>Oh my GOD we just had sex, we can't do that, I'm your sister!
>Lol I'll do it again
>Imoen: Look, jelly-brain - there's a real ugly word for what we did, and it's 'incest'. Don't you get it? You had sex with your sister! It's- it's *wrong*!
>CHARNAME: It makes you happy. It makes me happy. I don't see your point, Imoen.
