Peace Walker is the third best MGS game, after MGS 2 & 3. Keep coping.
To this day I'm still not sure if this is canon/a must-play for the series. Seems like it sets up PW and other stuff perfectly, both in terms of gameplay elements and lore but apparently Kojima hates it??
Kojima essentially puts Portable Ops in the canon as "it all happened, but not in the way the game tells it"
I don't get why is he so butthurt about PO when PW is a similar if not bigger shitshow
It's not canon, the only thing that's canon about it is that there was a "San Hieronymo Incident", everything else isn't canon.
>pw better than mgs 1
God peace walker gays are so annoying. Your game about a shit character who wasn’t that important but became post washed up kojimas obsession just isn’t that good, sorry to have to tell you.
Everything after three was just Konami pushing kojima to make a buck and kojima didn't give two fricks about the series anymore so he just shit out mediocre games
>emulate POps >want to play as shirtless, prisoner Big Boss instead of using the lame ass sneaking suit >tinker with codes >irreparably break my save
Good times

what's weird is that around the time of MGS4, Kojima said the reason Campbell enjoyed working with Snake so much is because he reminded him of working with Big Boss in PO

I just finished playing it on my vita a few weeks ago. Coming from multiple replays of MGS2 and 3, I forgot how crazy high enemy diction was on PO. I can be over halfway across the map and you still have enemies spot you. MGS2 and MGS3, you could be all up in the enemy's faces and they still couldn't see you.
I remember getting stuck pretty far into this game, had literally no idea what I was meant to do next and couldn't find shit. It was decent for the time on the PSP.
Is it a good idea to unlock them with the password recruits? I'm not exactly playing this for the long haul with all the optional stuff if PW is any indication, just want to go through the story missions.
Doesn't matter really. If you don't want to wait to later in game to farm and find higher recruits. A lot of them have some nice stats and abilities for getting your tech and medial stats up and also make good solders when Snake is low on stamina. They're really nice and don't really break the game for having them all. I kind of wonder why they even gave you alternative code input option to unlock the story bosses.
For me it was autiscally trying to capture all the guys on the map which made for a horrendous experience. Even with this knowledge I cant help myself.
pssst, anon, it drives engagement because no one will join a thread of someone giving their own opinion. You have to bait others to give THEIR opinion because then they're more likely to open the thread.
Like 75% of these threads are people who have already started or maybe even finished playing the game and just want to discuss it. then 20% are people wanting to know if there's any core, missable shit they should know, and then 5% are probably legitimate morons.
It is solid gameplay wise, the story is typical japanese crazy with sci fi and supernatural bullshit. The bossfights are pretty fricking creative, especially for MGS standards, they are the highlights of the game imo. The comic book styled cutscenes are also amazing. The story has some moments where it shits itself a little, but overall I found it very enjoyable - though the sophisticated combination of gameplay and story so characteristic of Kojima's games is missing here. Also, hands down this game has the most unique Metal Gear. The villain is great too. The plot twists work. You are encouraged to infiltrate with double-agent enemy combatants a lot which is unique
Thoroughly enjoyable.
It was my first metal gear tbh.
Capture everyone. It's unfortunate but you NEED to fill out your base before you can start being selective and trying to actually get good soldiers. Just accept you're gonna have to drag every fricking body you see for the first few hours of the game.
the worst metal gear game ever made. it is devoid of soul and feels like it was made by some unknown 3rd party developer that was handed the metal gear brand name
I absolutely hated everything from the controls, gameplay to the performance (why does it run at 20FPS). Played it digitally on the Vita, maybe it emulates better but I haven't tried to play it again when PW is the much better overall experience.
me + sex with your mother.
funnies
Cool but wait for the collection with online
peace walker with somehow worse controls and bad story
>implying Peace Walker didn't have a bad story
non canon. non fun. non important. non sex.

> Big Boss
> Not important
homie, he's the main villain of the first two installments, and throughout MGS1-MGS2 they mention him every other sentence.
Have sex incel. You will never pass, and you will never be a real woman.
And this is exactly how I know you’re a moron. Talking about the boss you dumb gay. Now go play your shitty monster hunter clone.

Portable Ops is better than PW in every way

A fun game

Because he wasn't involved in it, obviously.
what's weird is that around the time of MGS4, Kojima said the reason Campbell enjoyed working with Snake so much is because he reminded him of working with Big Boss in PO
PO artwork were straight up in MGS4
Compared to 5, PO and PW are fun and actually finished games.
I remember playing online (on this or with the "sequel") and liking placing claymores and throwing flashbangs everywhere
Horrid controls unless you play one of the remasters or heavily change controls while emulating
Playing it on the Vita, right analog stick works like a charm. Pretty cool so far.

Calling to the Night being a god tier song. Also be sure to check out all the unlockable characters.

The single most underrated MGS game.
For me it was autiscally trying to capture all the guys on the map which made for a horrendous experience. Even with this knowledge I cant help myself.
The only true sequel to 3. Has the most MGS1-esque bosses in the franchise, aside from MGS11 of course.
I've never understood "what am I in for" threads
Just play the game. Talk about the game once you play the game. I know that sounds naive in Ganker but jesus

It's pretty neat except for the gray fox stuff which is pretty cringe.
Gray Fox randomly becoming a robot ninja was fricking stupid in MGS1.
Him always being a ninja was a much needed retcon to make it less moronic.

It was my first metal gear tbh.
Tedious recruiting mechanic and 20fps
big boss wearing a mankini and thigh highs
the worst sneaking suit
Much more kino than Shit Walker
CALLING TO THE NIGHT
Capture everyone. It's unfortunate but you NEED to fill out your base before you can start being selective and trying to actually get good soldiers. Just accept you're gonna have to drag every fricking body you see for the first few hours of the game.
Bad controls
Dragging guards for 5 hours
4 inventory slots
but easily one best ending OST in the MGS series
the worst metal gear game ever made. it is devoid of soul and feels like it was made by some unknown 3rd party developer that was handed the metal gear brand name
