>Metal Slug 3 is bloated trash, 4 is much better
How can anyone think this? While 4 is not as long it comes across as more bloated than 3 due to bad pacing starting in the fourth mission and the myriad of reused content. Even the boses, both mechanically and visually, are worse.
lol?
2 drops frames like crazy and turns into a power point presentation at some point while X runs silky smooth all the way. Also boss order in 2 is just weird.
>Also boss order in 2 is just weird.
What are you even talking about?
X is the one where there are a bunch of bizarre and arbitrary changes and nothing meshes with each other. They had to fix the slowdown of 2, but couldn't just release the same game so messed with a bunch of shit.
SNK as a gaming company is a legend for a reason, No other company has been mismanaged to death, gotten taken over and bounced back just to die again thanks to mismanagement, several times miraculously. Not even sega. Hell at this point we are just waiting for to see how it takes for the Saudi's to frick up and inevitably kill SNK. SNK is like a cursed company, but in reverse, All who acquire it are given access to gaming properties that rival even some of the oldest gaming giants, able to stand on even ground on the likes of those such as Sega, Namco, and Capcom, but those who wield SNK's power eventually succumb to path of self ruination. Truly one of the most curious phenomenon of the gaming industry.
>Metal Slug, Metal Slug X, and Metal Slug 3
I've played the arcade versions of 1,2,3. Are the ports exactly the same as arcade or do they add any extra stages?
>metroidvania
no... well there it could work may but but would happened is you end up getting another situation like Metal Slug GBA, a game that feels lack luster in a series acclaiming for being brutally hard and intense, the core mechanics of a metroidvania style game not properly balanced for a metal slug experience. The was a game that attempted this called Mercenary Kings, it's premise was essentially a Metal slug metriodvania, but i think it ended up being a mess of an experience with how it's systems were introduce. (this of course, is from the word of mouth and what i remember at the time of release way back when, i never did get a chance to play it, and lost an interest to try it because i didn't here much about anything about it once it came out.)
Ok but could a tactics game rejuvenate the franchise? I mean metal slug is known for its fast paced action and Japanese tactics games are anything but that.
well the idea is to do something completely different, and make a branch in the series so that people don't liken the new game and every game you do further on to that of the old ones entirely. If they did a metroidvania, all though it makes more sense to make something like that because it would be a side scroller run and gun at heart,. just more open ended, you now run risk of it not being good and criticized for not doing the original feel of the games justice as you'd then get abunch of people claiming "this shouldn't have been try, they should have gave us another run and gun like the old games and keep everything the same!", where as if they were to do something like tactics people can just write it off as a spin-off easily and not get overly purists about the game. SNK has always had that problem with "purists", this shit happened with KOF maximum impacted when SNK first tried to adapt 3D models ((they also did try Metal Slug 3d but it didn't pan out well), happened with happened with Samurai showdown sen (the game was ironically the closest the closest thing to what people now think samurai showdown was praised for as a series, a brutally intense game where the one mistake gets to instakilled mid match, though Sen was really really busted), and hell this shit still happens to SNK now with KOF 14 and 15 being overlooked because people keep begging them to go back to 2D sprites. SNK realizes that if it wants to avoid yet another another bankruptcy, they need to branch out more, however they can't really branch out such as make entirely new Ips in the first place because they only get dragged back out from the brink so people can ride on them for brand recognition. SNK"s existance is pure pain sometimes.
Ok but could a tactics game rejuvenate the franchise? I mean metal slug is known for its fast paced action and Japanese tactics games are anything but that.
Just checked the tactics game, it seems to be a licensed game by some third party developers and publishers without SNKs direct involvement, so SNK as such doesn't have much to lose except maybe outrage the series fans if the game does something extremely stupid.
Metal Slug 3 would be perfect, but the final mission is so fricking long
>Metal Slug 3 would be perfect, but the thing that makes it perfect
Ahem
RE3 sucks though
Sounds like a skill issue, RE3 is the best one.
I never said I didn't easily beat RE3. I said it sucked.
>Wasting your time playing a game to the end that you're not enjoying
Sounds like a homosexual issue
>NOOOOO YOURE NOT ALLOWED TO FINISH A GAME SO YOU KNOW WHAT YOURE TALKING ABOUT
>JUST WATCH ASMONGOLDS REVIEW
shut up gay
Not what I said. My point was, why waste your time on a game you're getting nothing out of it? Find something else to do.
so he can have more fun shitting on it
Unfathomably based and a fellow King of culture.
I just played Nemesis for the first time in 18+ years and it's aged like the finest of wines.
RE3 is hot garbage
t. only played the remake
I've never played the remake actually
t. I'm lying, I only actually played the remake
Ok but RE3 is still dog shit and you're in the minority by far as well as just being a minority irl.
>as well as just being a minority irl
I'm a white british dude. Only morons go around assuming things.
>white
>british
Anglo-Saxon, yes.
Frick yeah man. RE3 is great.
just keep inserting quarters
is there a port of these games where i don't have infinite lives? because that always ruined the fun in these games for me
christ, I forgot that this game exists.
>forgetting metal slug
I haven't own a console since 10 - 12 years ago.
what? mame32k/neo-geo emulation has existed for like 20 years.
also this shit has been on steam for a long time.
What I meant is that I last play it on console around 10-12 years ago.
I might give it a replay soon now that I remember it.
you're in luck

Meta Slug X is just an inferior Slug 2.
Metal Slug 3 is bloated trash, 4 is much better in terms of pacing, level design, and bosses, despite some recycled content.
Otherwise I agree.
>Metal Slug 3 is bloated trash, 4 is much better

God bring me back Neo Geo dying was a mistake
2 was literally so bad they had to remake it
There's literally no meaningful differences between 2 and X, it was just arcade version revisions that were popular with devs at the time.
2 chokes like a prostitute due shoddy coding thanks to release rush, game wait 2 frames to update making slowdowns even a bigger issue.
X engine introduced everything we know and love today, on top of fixing ton of issues.
There is a lot of gameplay changes actually.
But when played without slowdown, 2 is far superior.
lol?

Is it true that SNK nearly went bankrupt multiple times developing the Metal Slug games?
No, they actually made lot of money from games, but ceo literally blew on hookers and blow.
>ceo literally blew on hookers and blow.
That can't be right?

Is there any place where I can read or learn about their mismanagement history? It sounds interesting.
Overclocked 2 to fix the framerate > X
Commando 2 is better
Based. It may be a rip off of metal slug but it was a damn good one.
Their ost is fricking fire too
Frick yea it is
Btw, do you know the specific artist that composed all these tracks?
I've been looking for this information for ages.
Nah i couldn't find anything about it, it would be tricky to find the original developers and ask them
>Metal Slug, Metal Slug X, and Metal Slug 3
I've played the arcade versions of 1,2,3. Are the ports exactly the same as arcade or do they add any extra stages?
I never really appreciated the boiling heat effect on the background before.
Thats not Kingsfield
awesome pixel art but if you play them today with infinite continue they're just mindlessly boring
Are you guys excited for metal slug tactics?
If they wanted to move out of the run and gun genre, they could have moved to metroidvania or something but a tactics game? That's really weird.
>metroidvania

2 > X once you remove the slowdown
Every Metal Slug after the first one is shit. 3 is the worst.
I 1cc'd these games only because I wanted to enjoy the visuals but can't stand having infinite lives
they called the second game "Metal Slug 10"?
The spritework is so fricking good
Not while Sly Cooper exists
3 is the better than X
Favorite Metal Slug clones?
