MGS2 has the video codecs. It's not just a picture of Zero flickering for 20 minutes. And Zero and his codecs are all extremely fricking boring.

MGS3 is not just static images, the codec script is fricking awful and half the voice acting is questionable. EVA is the only contact with consistently good codec calls and she is unavailable for half the game.
Codec in 2 is a treasure trove.

MGS2 has insane amount of codecs and because the levels are so small due to MUH 60FPS you get them more often. It's not even close. The menuing is fine wish the menu screens loaded faster but t hey will in MGS HD so that might be fixed. biggest issue is changing the camo can get annoying.
1 is still unmatched. 3 has so many levels to it it's hard to not admire. I don't get the love for 2 at all. A drab, boring piece of shit recycling as much as possible from MGS1 because MUH META.

By orders of magnitude. MGS4 is the last MGS game made.
In retrospect portable ops was a better sequel to 3 than pw or V. It gave us Gray Fox, Campbell, characters we wanted to see connect to the future timeline, and gameplay that tried it's best to play like an MGS game. Instead of PW which gave us a ridiculous new cast with little saving grace, a story about Bigboss being driven looney cuckoo by an AI, and gameplay built upon the philosophy of "my son really likes monster hunter".
Don't even get me started on V and it's fricking atrocious decisions across the board. All that Snake becomes a demon shit god damn I'm still pissed about MGSV.
I liked seeing fox and campbell in PO but thought the game overall was really boring. All the levels were tiny, repetitive, and forgettable. Also probably the ugliest game in the franchise

At least PO had actual boss fights. Tried to is the key word here. I'd honestly rather play a Big Boss descent to villainy game made by a B Team like whoever made PO than trust Kojima to end the saga in a satisfying way.
