I'm playing through MGSV for the first time. I've heard that you loose Quiet and that it can be prevented.
What I want to know is, is this hinted at in the game? Audio tapes, side ops, etc?
I don't want to spoil anything for myself but I also don't want to loose Quiet.

There's nothing obvious saying if you do this you won't lose her. But if you use her a lot you'll come across it.

I can already tell this is something I'll kick myself over.
It's near the end of the game so you don't have to be on edge. IIRC you avoid losing her if you equip the butterfly emblem. It's moronic. I know. There's no way for you to ever figure this out and console babies were mad so a patch brought her back or something. On PC you can play as her and get her dash. Through the Play As Quiet mod you can also have her wear DLC outfits even if you didn't buy them.
You can also get her back through some tedious Kojima design, but I would recommend just playing the game normally and rolling with the punches.

Rolling with the punches is my play style, I'd just miss the utility.
She kind of trivializes certain sections, and you have so many alternatives, it's really not a problem at all to just never get her back if you don't feel inclined.
I kinda assumed this was the motivation for removing her in the first place to be honest. She is a bit OP

You can lose Quiet but they patched the game at some point after launch and added a way to get her back so you don't really need to worry about it.
