It's me, OP. I got two more Candelabras from lairs.

Hello, it's OP. I've finally managed to "kill" Arzakon as in reduce his life points to 0 with this purpose built deck.

Finally, I can rest easy knowing I beat this game (almost) completely. I had to give up on Ali from Cairo while clearing the dungeons but it's a trash card in this game anyway.

You can just repeatly fight the enemies that give you card duplication rewards and build a deck like
        >4x Underground Sea
        >4x Mox Sapphire
        >4x Mox Jet
        >4x Black Lotus
        >4x Demonic Tutor
        >4x Contract from Below
        >4x Ancestral Recall
        >4x Timewalk
        >4x Timetwister
        >4x Juggernaut
With this deck will be able to win duels without allowing the enemy to get a turn once.

Since this is my first playthrough, I paid no mind to the card duplication and ante stuff although I did take unique Astral cards from the enemies' decks like Rainbow Knights and Call from the Grave when they asked for mercy. Playing more than one of the restricted cards (except for cards I don't think should be restricted like Candelabra of Tawnos and Cyclopean Tomb) feels like cheating to me, although I already cheated by playing a 40 card deck. As I have already stated, this is a mental block for me.

If Legends is a part of the card pool, trade out a Juggernaut for Underworld Dreams, the other three for sol rings, then twist and recall them to death.

unfortunately a lot of cards even from sets that are in didn't make it into the game. That card is one that didn't otherwise it would have probably been in a howling mine deck.

Where are your "Contract from Below"s?

Yeah, that's the most broken card in the entire game, but I'm scared of losing all my ante'd cards, even though I always load from a previous save whenever I lose. I guess it's a psychological issue.

then just run a israeliteeled bird too, gets the anted cards back in your graveyard for time twister too

This looks cool, does it have a campaign mode?

Yep, the quest to defeat Arzakon.

      Yes, and a tough one.
You start with a weak deck that could be 1-2 color, first thing to do is to go to the nearest town and edit it down to something more viable. Then try to complete some quests for life points, since you start with 10. After that, you need to move around the map and check all appearing locations for free cards. Sell what you can't use. Use gold for more cards. After some grinding, you might be able to survive a fight against the lower level enemy decks, maybe. You need to progress quickly, because if a single one of the five enemy's take over 3(or 5 if you buy the item) towns, it's game over. And if they take a town, it will be guarded by a rather high level deck of that color, so you'll need to build a decent deck fast in order to take them down.
Once you get far enough into it to have a decent deck, then comes the challenge of taking on the dungeons for the rare and powerful cards. If you fail a single battle in a dungeon, it dumps you back outside and you don't get a second chance. Black Lotus, Moxes, and the more powerful spells are locked behind those. Then you can try random encounters to see if you can get some more of the rare cards as Ante prizes. Finally, you tackle the 5 dungeons, each it's own color, full of high level decks from that color and one boss with a really nasty deck. After beating the last one, you get thrown into a battle with the final boss, who has 500 health and a 5 color deck full of bullshit. You don't actually need to beat him, it just counts each point of damage done to him as another X so many years he's banished.

I love how this sounds, I wish WotC would try something like this again with a new video game based on M:tG... afterall Magic: Arena's engine is excelent, but it's clearly focused on the PvP online experience. A campaign like this, a full RPG, would be wonderful to have.

          >Ante prizes
I'm sold. Fricking limp-wristed CCG players who ran ante matches away (probably because of n... bad losers not forfeiting their cards

If you find you enjoy the Shandalar campaign, you might want to look into Card Forge. It has a campaign mode that isn't half bad, if lacking in end-game. You can specify only using specific sets or blocks, and have it unlock more as you go along. Has cards from Alpha all the way to the modern shit, so you can easily re-create Shandalar decks in it. You can win Ante, and also win Booster packs too.

really making sense when you think about it, losing their cards or losing irrelevant matches won points are equally devastating to mtg players.

You can tell the difference between magic the tcg and magic the ccg with cards like this. I guess the idea was to just trade up in duels? We had house rules against ante to keep everyone honest.

Indeed, it's quite rare to see even the concept of an ante nowadays, even in video games, let alone real life. If you want more like this, I recall Yu-Gi-Oh! Sacred Cards and Yu-Gi-Oh! Reshef of Destruction having this feature, where you choose what card to use as an ante before each duel, the former is quite an easy time though so you'll probably lose your cards rarely, while the latter was probably the biggest difficulty spike in a sequel that I've ever seen. I don't recall if there were any other besides these and Shandalar with an ante rule though.

Antes are awful IRL. They're really nice in vidya card games though

Indeed, it'll always end in someone being salty and overall it'll be less fun to play since there's more at stake than usual, in a video game it fits well enough though, especially against an AI.

    >Fireball but no Channel in sight

      Anonymous

In my opinion, you want to have a higher life total than your opponent if you're playing Channel+Fireball, so it's not as effective in a control deck like

      https://i.imgur.com/BlK3kjJ.jpg

      ITT: Shandalar decks.
      I'll start.

as in an aggro/burn deck like Zoo.
In the control deck, the four Mishra's Factory's are my primary win conditions, so I can't really deal damage in the early game, instead I try to control the board using Swords to Plowshares, Wrath of God, and Fireball. Therefore, Fireball serves the dual purpose of sweeper and win condition in the control deck.
On the other hand in aggro decks, Fireball is used mostly as reach, so Channel makes it easier to finish off your opponent once your Kird Apes and Lightning Bolts have done quite a lot of damage.
I can see a case for including Channel in my Candleflare combo deck

It's me, OP. I got two more Candelabras from lairs.

but I often take a lot of damage trying to assemble the combo so I decided against it.
      Hope this helps, anon.

Man, i recall playing a version of that game with modded cards from more recent sets. up to return to innistrad i think.

Yeah, and I think a version updated to 2012 cards is still available online. There used to be newer revisions of it, but some autistic eastern european harassed the guy doing the hack over not having every card 100% perfect, so the guy making the hack quit outright and asked the forum he posted the hacks at to pull them all offline.

it wasn't just harassment the autist was threatening to inform wizards of the coast of copyright infringement of the mod and the maker really didn't want that sort of attention due to his actual job.

That's right, I forgot the full details. Guy was a total scumfrick. All because he was butthurt that the mod maker wasn't making all the new cards compatible 100% fast enough for free. This is why people who complain about free stuff deserve to be insulted.
