Yeah. And as much as they suck, why is Ganker blaming them instead of the devs?
People act as if the games would have actually been good if it just wasn't for sugarbab. It's ultimately the devs making these decision, and in the majority of cases you can be certain that they would have made these decisions even without any syrupy newborns.

This is why I always laugh at the xbabbies who are pretending Xbox's death is some sort of terrible thing. MS has always been dogshit, and a virus to the industry. Shitty build quality. Paid online. Ruining acquired studios...

One reason I was so happy about the buyout was the knowledge they'd run these shitty AAA studios into the ground. They're destined to mismanage Activision/Blizzard and kill them as well. I love it.

The problem is that Sony is just as fricking awful, and I need them to flop as well.

They used to be good. And during the PS4 gen I somehow thought that it was still possible to course correct. But now I am thinking that ship might have sailed. I doubt it's even possible any more.
For one. They've bled far too much talent. Secondly. There appears to be no will to even shift towards first-party AA development.

Yeah, when they were a JP company. They've just ceded everything to California and they're never going to be good again until some JP exec comes in with an iron fist and just says "we're taking this shit back".

          Anonymous

          >and just says "we're taking this shit back"
I mean. I'd love to see them try. But the talent that they've bled are already wrapped up in other businesses/companies now. Or retired.
The later could potentially be enticed to come back if things changed. But it'd be unlikely. And the former would just be extremely unlikely to happen since they've got new loyalties and or contracts at play now.
It genuinely sucks. And sure, they could try to cultivate new talent from the ground up. But since they've lost most of their internal talent already, they don't have much in ways of talent capable of serving as mentors to younger talent. Making it increasingly more difficult to build something from the ground up.

I don't want to be a doomer about it. But it's extremely difficult to see Playstation returning to good Playstation.

            >Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Tiktok
I worked in digital advertising as a software engineer, and those platforms all give garbage-tier returns on most products and services. Search engines are where the real money is, which basically just means Google because they have such a giant market share of online searches. I think a large part of it is due to people seeing ads injected during videos or content feeds and being able to recognize it as an ad, so they mentally filter it out, whereas your average Joe doesn't really notice an advertisement on Google as being an ad most of the time, so they actually read it.

Literally all of this can be tracked with ease too:
            >how many people saw my ad
            >how many people clicked my ad
            >how many people saw my ad, did not click it, but then went to my website directly
            >how many people actually purchased my product after seeing my ad
            >how many people most likely did not see an ad anywhere before buying my product
It's all stuff we would ingest from the ad platforms daily and turn into pretty graphs for marketers and salespeople to look at. Term they use is "impressions" for people seeing stuff without necessarily clicking or buying something. So they want to basically see
            >Do my sales/profit scale with impressions on this platform?
If not, then the ROI is shitty, and they would rather spend the advertising dollars elsewhere. You could probably get a frickton of impressions by shilling on Ganker, but I would wager the ROI would be absolutely abysmal compared to just plopping an ad campaign on Google.

Nintendo is on track to surpass the Playstation 2's lifetime sales with the little hybrid Nintendo Switch console. And Sony with their lukewarm 1st party output on the PS5 is smashing sales records during and after a COVID and recession 1-2 punch. Seems strange that Phil Spencer is trying to speak as if the ground is sinking when its Xbox leadership with a jackhammer smashing their own part of the console landscape with their boneheaded moves. Valve put out a handheld then released another updated revision in the handheld space than Sony abandoned. There's a successful CGI video game movie under Nintendo and the Despicable Me studio that's getting a sequel. Tons of indie games are grown enough to sastify everyone between major AAA releases. Self publishing has never been easier and thanks to Valve there's more pressure to have lower spec PC ports for SteamDeck and other users to play without paying for high end PC parts.

And Xbox's out there. Struggling. Inflicting gunshot wound to themselves and asking why consumers abandoned them. Fricking wild man how Spencer still has a job. Not once since Xbox has bent their knees to Playstation and Nintendo has any Microsoft PR statement encourage anyone to buy into their platform ecosystem, always telling you to rent games or buy their games elsewhere off Xbox. Bold leadership.

"We are not in the business of out-consoling Sony or out-consoling Nintendo. There isn't really a great solution or win for us. And I know that will upset a ton of people. But the truth of the matter is that when you're third place in a console marketplace and the top two players are as strong as they are and in certain cases have a discrete focus on doing deals and other things that will--that make being Xbox hard for us as a team--our vision is everyone on console has a great experience and they feel like a first-class citizen," - Phil Spencer (head of Microsoft Gaming Studios)

"I see commentary out there--'If you just build great games, everything will turn around.' It's just not true [that] if we go off and build great games, all of a sudden you're going to see console share shift in some dramatic way. I see a lot of pundits out there who kind of want to go back to the time where we all had cartridges and discs and every new generation was a clean slate. And you could switch the whole console share. That is just not the world that we are in today. There is no world where Starfield is an 11/10 and people start selling their PS5s. That's not going to happen." - Phil Spencer (head of Microsoft Gaming Studios)

      >xbox's library was actually good
The library is mostly the same on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. The issue for Microsoft is that PlayStation and Xbox compete in the same exact market... but PlayStation has better exclusives, even if there are just a few of them.
"PC", "handheld console" and "home console" are their own markets with very little overlap. PC is its own thing, Nintendo competes against nothing because they BTFOed everyone else out of that market. Sony and Microsoft are essentially selling the same exact product.

If you're a customer who wants to buy a current-gen home console, why would you ever get an Xbox? PS5 gets the same games AND a good exclusive once in a while. Xbox also gets exclusives from time to time, but they're shit. There, that's the only difference between PlayStation and Xbox this generation.

Even if Xbox put out a "handheld console hybrid" the consumer trust foundation has been broken. The Sega Dreamcast was a good console but the trust was broken with the Saturn being ditched so early. We're only 3 years into this generation and Xbox Series consoles flatlined completely way WAY under the Xbox One. If I'm itching for a portable the Xbox brand is the last thing on my mind. Marketers have no idea just why marketing works to build trust in the brand and Xbox's marketing disappeared in Europe and then their marketing/PR these days is their products don't matter just pay the GamePass rent.

Yeah, at this point the generation is lost. And it seems it's only going to get worse going forward, I wouldn't be surprised if third-party developers started giving up on Xbox entirely because they can't be bothered with supporting Series S.

I have no idea what they could do to "save" Xbox, realistically... other than pumping out good games and hoping Sony starts producing turds instead. That's more or less how the PS3 ended up "winning" the 7th generation.
          >Even if Xbox put out a "handheld console hybrid" the consumer trust foundation has been broken.
That's probably their best chance, it would be something the competition doesn't offer: the ability to play games on Series X, upload the savefile to the cloud, download that same savefile on your Xbox Vita, and keep playing on the go. It's basically what I do with my Steam Deck and it's great, but as I said the PC market is its own thing.
But apparently Sony is also working on some sort of PSP3 based on the same concept, so...

Not really, PS5 is selling great.

There's an audience for GamePass but they're poor people. Creating an ecosystem of poor people isn't what you want if you want to make money, because everyone with money has gone on to play on PC instead which is why you have people paying $70 for Starfield on Steam instead of renting it for $10.

I think as a concept it'd have been a fine way to get kids into the ecosystem so they grow up to be Xbots but the rise of streaming has made it so kids don't want consoles, they want PCs so the day 1 PC gambit backfired in an astounding manner. That was Microsoft's biggest mistake for sure as far as Xbox goes. Anything else could have been salvaged like how the Switch is doing fantastic after the Wii U crashed and burned.

              >There's an audience for GamePass but they're poor people.
Everyone likes paying less, not just poor people. They assumed they were going to dominate the videogame market with GamePass, that everyone would start publishing their games on this service like everyone started launching their TV shows on Netflix. The idea was to attract new subscribers with high-quality exclusives, available from day-one for just $15 a month, and then these people would stick with it.
              But:
              1) Most of these exclusives were either bad (Halo Infinite, Redfall, Starfield...) or niche (Psychonauts 2, Hi-Fi Rush, Pentiment...).
              2) People subscribed for $1, played all they wanted to play, and then unsubscribed.
              3) It turns out people don't play that many games throughout the year. It's not the same as TV shows, that can be "consumed" in a couple of days. Elden Ring lasted me an entire month, my entire free time was filled by one game. I don't care if Microsoft added 9999 games to their service, I'm playing ONE game.

        >The library is mostly the same on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S
Only if you view it from mainstream titles. The Xbox in particular lacks a bunch of Japanese games because it simply isn't profitable to port to the thing or because Sony is getting exclusivity rights. This means the lower end games that you would be getting in addition to the AAA western games when there's a lull in the release schedule aren't there for Xbox unless you go back to the older gens and even there it's not all of them when you go to the Xbone catalogue. If you like anything but the most notable of mainstream games you're not gonna find it on Xbox.

Sony and Nintendo are the ones getting Japanese games while PC gets more notable ones. Or companies like Capcom and Sega realized it's better to support PC rather than ignore it as multiplat companies so they started porting stuff to it. Xbox is also typically the sole market not to get physical copies of more niche games which leads to even less visibility for those games on their platform leading to even worse sales so the companies care even less to port to it. Digimon Survive for example shelfwarmed on Xbox and was discounted before Switch and PS4 from what I recall, same goes for World of Final Fantasy: Maxima.

Say what you want about Sony, they still have the niche Japanese market but due to their idiocy they're more split evenly with Nintendo now in terms of who has what, but at least they have it. Microsoft doesn't. Microsoft has tried to buy into that market by giving Sega a bunch of advertisement and to port stuff like Yakuza and Persona on what I'm pretty sure is their dime when it's already gotten big and established itself on Playstation. They're not naturally bringing in Japanese devs and not actively courting smaller developers like they did back in the 360 days with XNA, Community games, and the entire Arcade games push. Why in the world did they kill off those programs?

that has to do with the fact that nintendo's cartridges are proprietary and cartridges cost more to make than cds regardless. it's like the n64 vs playstaiton, n64 games were way more expensive than psx games. don't confuse that with game quality, unless you really want die on the hill of castlevania 64 being better than sotn.

I do not give a single frick about how much it costs to make.

And not only is your Castlevania 64 example WRONG because it is *not* more expensive than SotN, but it's also irrelevant because those are 30 year old games, so the price of manufacture is irrelevant to the modern consumer. Actual quality is what kept Wii U games at $60 rather than $10 like PS4 games, and it's what keeps Switch games at $60 after years. People are willing to pay that much for a product if they think the product actually has that much value. Lowering a game to less than 20% of its initial retail price means you don't think it was even worth what you originally asked for it, and this is coming from the company that also pretends like their games are worth $70.

i'm talking about at release and for the initial years following it when sotn new was $40-$50, the greatest hits was $20, $10 for a used copy and then it was on sale for $5 in bargain bins at the end of the the consoles life. final fantasy tactics was the same way while quest 64 was more expensive to purchase because it cost the publishers more to make. that's why you had n64 games that cost $70 while most playstation games were $40-$50 when new.

                > so the price of manufacture is irrelevant to the modern consumer
it isn't when we're talking about modern games lmao. the aftermarket retro gaming scam is something completely different.

you stupid moron that was clearly only applicable THEN. it is not applicable NOW. Switch games are not retailing for $80 while Playstation games are retailing at $40-$50, quite the opposite, because Switch games (aside from TotK) are only $60 and Playstation games are $70.

there are plenty of third party switch games that cost $15 or less now, you know why? because they're TRASH that nobody wants, which puts them in the same category as first party sony exclusives

a physical copy of witcher 3 on switch is more expensive than on the other consoles when it goes on sale because the cartridges cost more to make so they can't make it as cheap as the disc versions and still get the same margins. sorry, i should have used this example first because apparently comparing the situation to a time before you were born is a bit too high concept. disc versions aren't $70 for long either, yakuza 8 and persona 3 reload are already down to $40 for physical copies and those came out 2 months ago.

You moron, it doesn't go on sale on the Switch because they didn't make as many copies, and it has been out of print for years now. The reason it is so expensive is because the resellers who still have copies know people are willing to pay more for the game physically because it's essentially a collectible at this point, much like a 30 year old game that you tried to use as an example earlier. Anyone who just wants to PLAY the game is free to get it on the eshop, where it goes on sale regularly, and is in fact on sale right now for only $15

IDK what you two are arguing about but the prices of physical games post-release fluctuate depending on their reviews and how many copies were printed. If a game is a stinker and they made a lot of copies, the prices after release will plummet just like Suicide Squad is already at half off price on discs but keeping its digital price at full 70 dollars even on Steam which is hilarious. A game like Witcher 3 uses the highest cartridge size so that's never going to be for 20 dollars ever, meanwhile a 3rd party game like Persona will cheap out on the cartridge and be under 30.

because of the cost of cartridges vs discs. especially in the case of witcher 3 where they used a 32gb cartridge which cost the publisher about $30 per cartridge when the witcher 3 switch port was released.

what some companies do now(especially sega) is discount games shortly after release in hopes that people will use the money that they saved to buy dlc for the game they purchased. sega has been doing it for years now so i assume it works well enough.

Oh yeah, I noticed it. You're not crazy this is actually SEGA's bread and butter, but it works because I do take their bait. A lot of SEGA games have a mountain of DLC, the physical games get bait sales at lower prices, and you end up paying SEGA close enough to the full price with hte DLC at the end of the day. But if the DLC is not compelling at all it'll never work. Now that we talked about it I'm struggling to figure out which other publishers do this sales bait tactic.

Release full price->DLC bait->Game gets signifcant sales like 3 months after release->Took the bait right here

capcom does it too, they actually added post release mtx to the re4 remake around the time it started going on sale which is pretty damn funny. sega is insane when it comes to this though, sonic frontiers was $30 on black friday and the game came out early november and i remember smtv was also 30$ off 2 or 3 weeks after it came out.

No but if you build high quality first party IPs and keep them exclusive to your platforms you provide an incentive for people to buy your platform, you dumb homosexual. Do you think people buy Nintendo consoles for the incredible online features and high quality hardware?

You buy half of the fricking game industry, somehow manage to produce only schlock then are amazed that people aren't lining up to buy your console. Honestly frick Phil, he's an idiot. Microsoft is the new EA now that EA mostly stopped caring about ruining companies because putting gacha in fifa makes more money.

Sony isn't any better so idk why people are trying to deflect to that. They're a company with a console that at any given time has one or two exclusive games worth playing selling a console at a loss in hopes that they make it back in software. it's a fundamentally unsustainable strategy. Nintendo is the only console company worth a shit because they're the only ones all in on gaming, the others are just divisions.

He's right, it wouldn't be enough for Xbox to do well, they would need Sony and Nintendo to lose. They need an Xbox One DRM moment and Wii lack of "real" games situation along with a super strong library and console of their own to start making a dent.

It's just not true [that] if we go off and build great games, all of a sudden you're going to see console share shift in some dramatic way. I see a lot of pundits out there who kind of want to go back to the time where we all had cartridges and discs and every new generation was a clean slate. And you could switch the whole console share. That is just not the world that we are in today. There is no world where Starfield is an 11/10 and people start selling their PS5s. To be honest I don’t think MSFT should focus on competion really. They have a growing platform in the Xbox marketplace and lots of studios. Their main issue is the poor quality of first party games. They can start thinking about competition only after they button that shit up first. You can’t focus on competition if your products aren’t competitive first and foremost.

      Anonymous

      >growing
They can't grow the "marketplace" if they don't have people in their ecosystem. If you are implying the Microsoft Store marketplace, aren't consumers right now waiting out PC ports to hit Steam? Ubisoft, EA, and even Microsoft ran back to Steam Storefront after leaving Gabe Newell.

If you're implying "marketplace" as a GamePass renting trap, if Microsoft was doing so well they'd be shouting hitting new milestones every month. Instead the head of Microsoft said he's no longer tying his executive bonus with GamePass growth. It's not a sustainable business model and it's market cap growth stopped with the number of Xbox consoles they've been able to sell. You can theorycraft the hypothetical profits of Xbox Marketplace/GamePass all day but they're not growing with the console hardware team down on the ground, way below the Xbox One sales pacing.

I want Xbox to be competitive but they're the ones leaving out physical discs, retailers aren't stocking their games which means not even basic advertising gets done, they don't localize games in major European countries, their business model is driving people to play THEIR CURATED rental games and nothing else matters. Time is the most important thing for most people and there are too many games out there for someone to play what Microsoft wants you to play. Their line of thinking is extremely flawed and misguided and they have had GamePass out there for more than 6 years without it being a runaway success.

Phil, and pretty much everyone at MS, knew exactly where the future of gaming was going. Had they tried that shit they did with the Xbone a few years later, no one would have batten an eye. Phil's issue is that he's too open with how things are gonna be. Sony is also going through it now. Remember how they lost 10B in value just because they couldn't sell enough PS5 this quarter? Technically, Sony is in a far worse position than MS because of their overspending with low profit margins, yet no one talks about it because the heads of Playstation shut the frick up about it. In the long run, Xbox will be fine because they have MS backing them. You should be more worried about Sony. They are the ones about to launch a Pro PS5 with 0 games. Sony spent a bunch of money on Bungie and now seems to be having major buyers remorse. They didn't NEED to drop a billion on them. They could have just offered to hire them as consultants for whatever live-service game they wanted to make. Ironically enough it seems like they cancelled a lot of those games already so one of the big reasons they bought Bungie in the first place is no longer needed.

Weird that Sony and Nintendo don't have these issues. Why would Sony and Nintendo listen to a third place competitor that's putting their games on Sony and Nintendo's platforms free of charge? What does Microsoft get in return for putting Hi Fi Rush on Playstation 5 from Sony's catalog of games? This is the conversation Phil wants to have.

Is Helldivers 2 coming out next week on Xbox in return? Fascinating marketing team conversation, this is the legit Xbox marketing team thought process.

Yes, though I'd call it self-preservation more than pettiness. Buying exclusivity amounts to buying all the sales lost from not selling on other platforms. The more market share you have, the less lost sales there are and the cheaper it is to buy exclusivity moving forward. This creates a snowball effect.

Xbox bought all those devs to ensure they always have a library and Sony can't just buy them off the market.

Virtually all of the companies MS bought out were in dire financial straits and needed some money to keep going lest they dissolved. Which aligned perfectly with the Xbox brand in dire need of developers accounting for making games for the system (not exclusively but Sony has been trying to corner out Xbox itself in that regard)

Activision is different in that sense. We don't know how they're going to handle a company like that. CoD and King are still enormous and as much as I hate Blizzard in 202X, I'm pretty sure most of their games are doing pretty well.

CoD, despite still being gargantuan, is not the behemoth it once was. Blizzard is just radioactive. Activision heads saw the writing on the wall and just wanted to cash out so they decided to open up for sale and chose Microsoft to buy them.

The tweeter in the OP pic is moronic, and so are you if you think that's how layoffs work. It's really:
    >buys a bunch of companies
    >lets them operate mostly as normal. Give the current employees slick new benefit packages and access to more stable funding
    >recover initial investment from buy-out
    >examine financials, compare to other business units
    >shut down any business units that are unprofitable, AND any units that are profitable but still less profitable than other units that could be scaled up by shutting down the less profitable unit

When your team is part of a giant corporation, it isn't enough to make money. You have to be making more money than other teams, or you will eventually be pruned. This usually looks like moving engineers and other actually-productive staff to the more profitable business unit, and then laying off the employees that become extraneous (usually salespeople, mid-level managers, and product designers).

Microsoft doesn't just do this with video games. They are very active in all aspects of computing, like cloud infrastructure, code management, and business software like Office. They love buying shit up and then shutting it down because in the worst case scenario, they at least shut down a competitor. If the government ever goes after them for this stuff (which they usually don't), MS gets a small fine as a slap on the wrist.

Bungie entered its absolute prime almost entirely because of Microsoft buying them. They got bought while Halo CE was still in development, and then went on to create Halo 2 and 3 to basically create and dominate the console online gaming sphere. The creation of 343 years later was where things soured.

WTF? Bungie had to seriously downgrade and dumb-down Halo for the Xbox, and Microsoft made them drop all of their other better IP.
It was a farce of a decision made only because Bungie had shown Halo at MacWorld and Microsoft wanted to take that away.

          Anonymous

Sure, you make a fair point. They were making more money and really put themselves on the map with Halo going to Xbox, whereas they were in the more niche Mac/PC sphere prior to that, which is more what I meant by "prime". I don't disagree with the idea that Microsoft eventually ran them into the ground and ruined what they once were, but they were definitely not a "shell" of themselves when they were first acquired. It was only afterwards, and it was fairly gradual compared to a studio like Rare that was essentially defunct and just purchased to get their IPs for cheap (probably just to keep Nintendo from getting it).

Microsoft's problem is that they get as much from the sale of a prebuilt high-end Windows Gaming PC as they do from the sale of a bargain basement laptop. On top of that, a not insignificant number of PC Gamers build their own systems and do not pay for Windows licenses. They simply have no way to access the high-end of the market, and that is a self-inflicted wound for Microsoft who made PC OSes a commodity nobody could sell to end users.

At the low-end that Chinese net cafe with Windows 10 machines where users log into Steam to play free games like DOTA2 likely generates Valve more revenue than Microsoft got out of the system.
GamePass is a reasonable way for Microsoft to try to tap into that market, and if they stay in that market an ARM Xbox / Netcafe system for GamePass is not unlikely.

The question for Microsoft upper management is why even bother? It doesn't act as advertising for them, it doesn't add value to the brand, NT can't keep up with the competition, and win32 support is a drain on their resources. They're not good in the home market. Nobody sees Microsoft products as 'premium', they're a dork trying to be cool by copying the cool kids at Apple. Meanwhile the dorks with money who know they are dorks are playing D&D games on GNU/Linux handhelds.

NTA but the "high-end market" isn't worth entering. The games made today run like total shit even on the "high-end" PCs. Not to mention, they're obviously not worth fricking playing because they're garbage titles made with no passion. It is quite literally actually genuinely actual factual not worth upgrading your PC to the latest techslop just to get 10 more FPS (50FPS total) on your copy of forspoken or kys squad

You're confusing "high-end" as meaning high-end graphics only doable with the 4090, where as high-end i'm on about is the companies spending huge amounts of money on windows/office licenses. Your average pc gamer buying a windows license even at full price is a drop in the ocean for Microsoft. Same with nvidia and their new AI architecture. Sure they offer it out to the gaymer paypigs but these companies developing their own AI software are buying up 4090s in the thousands.

Yeah, that too. I'd even consider crypto miners "high-end" if it weren't for the fact they're using the hardware exclusively for their hobby horse gambling addictions. M$ could easily shift gears into hardware if it weren't for their previous failures (zune, windows phone, etc.) setting the precedent for failure. I don't blame sony for trying to do that shit too with their awful online-only tablet, but that idea was a stillbirth unlike Zune which COULD have cornered some niche market Apple wasn't hoovering up if Zune didn't suck total ass.

You're not wrong. Nvidia makes the vast majority of their money in the PC market from OEM deals to sell bargain basement discrete chips. Where AMD and Intel's big plan to take over the Windows PC market is to make low-end discrete chips go away by selling gaming-capable integrated solutions.

But, Nvidia and AMD to a lesser extent do at least actually have a way to make money off of high-end PC builders, something Microsoft doesn't have.

                >But, Nvidia and AMD to a lesser extent do at least actually have a way to make money off of high-end PC builders, something Microsoft doesn't have.
I got my copy of W10 Pro from a friend who ripped it off an old work PC so I didn't even give M$ that drop in the ocean. I wonder what M$ could even do, make their own prebuilt shite like Apple? Maybe if they had started doing that 10 years ago instead of burning money and goodwill on "Kinect" we'd have a completely different non-stagnant M$ to deal with.

                >make their own prebuilt shite like Apple?
Not complete pre-builts beyond maybe some reference systems. Microsoft would sell ARM boards or a set of surface mount chips to OEMs who wanted to sell Windows systems. So if a Windows OEM wanted to sell a high-end system, they would be required by the OEM contract to source a specific set of chips with Microsoft in the loop and getting a cut.

With Windows for x86 compatible systems no longer being available to home users at all, or with OEMs required to sell only a small percentage of those systems guaranteeing they would all be at the most expensive end of the spectrum.

Thats the thing - Microsoft doesn't give a shit about that. They get enough data insights from windows users it doesnt matter and its an acceptable "loss". Windows activation scripts are freely available on github (which Microsoft owns) and havent been taken down in the years its been up.
Microsoft makes billions from set in stone annual subscriptions. Nvidia and AMD would kill for that. Not even mentioning the practically free money they get from Azure.

Way to ignore the context of the post.
                >Nvidia makes the vast majority of their money in the PC market from OEM deals to sell bargain basement discrete chips.

Clearly referring to low end hardware as the majority of the money they make in the PC segment, not that the PC is the largest segment of their overall revenue.
The AI market is, as your own post demonstrates, not considered part of the PC market.

As for the fear Nvidia will leave the PC graphics market, that is a valid concern because the market is trending towards greater integration, and Nvidia cannot produce x86 or AMD64 compatible hardware.
It has yet to be seen how successful a potential Microsoft push for gaming on ARM would be, but Microsoft did apparently request a sample SOC from Nvidia.

Was PC porting all it was cracked up to be or just a last ditch attempt to save woke bloat from going in the red like the withdrawals of an addict?
I mean Sony's having layoffs and studio closures in spite of PC support and Microsoft resorted to putting their games on PS5, so what's wrong?
Well I guess these are rhetorical questions, most planform holder revenue comes from royalties so as long as you can insure a fairly consistent
level of quality without spending too much exclusives basically act like playable marketing for the brand. I will always agree with Tendies on this.

I think pc porting is just a band-aid at this point, the type of game sony and microsoft are making are too expensive and they have to sell way too many copies to break even, not to mention that a month after a game launch they already start to discount it, pc gamers tend also to be willing to wait for a sale, mostly during steam sales, if they don't correct course and try to bring the dev cost of games down they are fricked.
Mind you, this is their own fault, they created a fan base based on shiny graphics and now their consumers are only interested in that, they don't care if there is an actual game behind it, they just want it to look pretty. Everytime microsoft and mainly sony try to show something diferent but with low graphics you can see the comments being the sleeping guy and stuff like that, they want the pretty things and for that they will have to spend more, which mean they will have to sell more, and there isn't enough people buying it at the end.
Not to mention that there is also an increase of dev time, soon enough they will have to start to dev for the next gen if they want to have a game ready to go when it launches, while we are in the middle of this gen. With the way things are going when the ps6 launches they will have to be developing for the ps7 already.
Selling a few extra million copies on pc won't save them i think. But hey helldivers seem to be successful so thats a start which could go to the trash if their next 300 million game flops.

There was literally nothing wrong with that game. It played like Crackdown 1 with more boss fights and variety. The press gets angry with any game that tries to be an actual video game instead of "Cinematic" slop that it's almost comical they projected all their "How dare this be a video game" rage on it.

One of Microsofts biggest pros is also their biggest con. They're very hands off while giving these teams loads of money. So the studios are in concept stages for years. Halo Infinite was going to be a hero shooter btw.

        >Halo Infinite was going to be a hero shooter
didn't that company have all kinds of ideas for Halo including one that was extremely similar to Helldivers 2? if they're so hands off, why did all those ideas die?

          >if they're so hands off, why did all those ideas die?
Maybe they should've focused on making a good mainline Halo game first. Concepts are good but they cant even nail the mainline games, the spin-offs would've probably been shit.

This goofy looking gopher motherfricker destroyed Microsoft gaming forever and it sucks because they were a good counter balance to Sony. The original Xbox and the Xbox 360 were a tremendous success and added a lot of great video games into the annals of video game history and then when MS reveals the Xbox One this motherfricker openly brags about how they are going to use the Xbox to spy on you, they aren't going to allow you to resell the physical copies of games which you bought because frick you, and you're going to pay an extra $100 for the Xbox connect whether you want it or not, and you're going to like it (the part where you give us your money). It was the single worst presentation of a new product ever made and it destroyed MS's reputation forever. They never recovered from this moment. They were always playing catch-up with Sony and slowly dying and I honestly don't even know if we are going to hear about Microsoft in the gaming world at all within the next 5-10 years.

The Xbox One (and really the Kinect before that) were massive failures from which Xbox never recovered, but the total collapse of their first-party game development around the same time also contributed to the death of the brand. What are the best Xbox exclusives since Halo Reach? What's the closest thing Xbox has had to a must-play title? It might be Starfield, which is telling

        Anonymous

Yes they also gave up on producing exclusive titles and focused on bullshit features no one asked for like the kinect. Imagine the millions of dollars dumped into creating the kinect or researching crap like "look! our console has voice recognition! Ain't that neat!" like b***h, where the fricking games at? Don't tell me you've spend millions on all this worthless crap. I want fricking games. All they had were bells and whistles.

The same thing that happened to Sega Dreamcast is happening to Xbox Series consoles in real time as the Xbox console brand is fully gone. Brand is destroyed.

        Anonymous

This was expected. I kept telling morons here that stuff like cod and big titles aren't gonna go exclusive because that literally cuts cod value and revenue in half but they thought Microsoft just doesn't Care about Profits. It was clear since the beginning that the Activision's acquisition is going to Force them into a 3rd party position because Xbox gamers already don't buy games and just wait for gamepass release and pc users alone aren't enough to cover the costs so PlayStation is necessary. Just look at how happy the devs were that their Games were going to PlayStation. Sea of thieves Twitter account was attacked by Xbox fans because they shilled PlayStation in their bio and put location as PS5

        Anonymous

It's the inverse of the Dreamcast. Sega was broke because of the Saturn and needed DC to sell way beyond reasonable numbers to unfrick their finances. Sega's brand was still intact after the Dreamcast was buried but they would destroy their brand after going third party. Microsoft have infinite money but they've destroyed their brand by a combination of abandoning beloved IPs and studios and/or giving beloved IPs to studios that run them into ground. Also Microjeet meddling in an effort to turn the console into a device that records all your media consumption habits and heavily incentivizes certain services has made it a chore for xbros to put up with their shit.
