That's Obsidian. Microsoft also owns InXile, so that's almost all of the high-profile people who ever worked on original Fallouts in one place.
And you'd have to keep Bethesda as far away as possible from this project, because their understanding of Fallout is competely incompatible with the vision of the original creators.

wasteland 3 is a different beast. similar and you can see the resemblance on the family tree but its more about the combat. thats not to say the story isnt good, but the skill tree isnt as varied and less focused on your decisions. underrail is fun. id say you will like it if you like the exploration of the classic fallouts. this includes the weaknesses of the classic fallouts too like making a shit starting build and be stuck on the first hard fight which comes super early.

I dont know about everyone else here, but my main complaints with NWN 2 are the crummy 3D world that had me constantly panning the camera around just so I could see anything, the boring characters, and the awkward way in which most of them are added to the party. The limited camera movement and crummy party control, which made moving team members around difficult and unpleasant (the Infinity Engine games were MUCH better in this regard). The railroaded, lackluster main story did not impress me at all, and there wasn't nearly as much optional content as the BG series had, and to be honest the 3rd Edition ruleset just wasn't as much fun. Now thats not specifically Obsidians fault, but it made for an overall less engaging game. Oh, and the ending was terrible. The narration sounded like they pulled a hobo off the street and shoved him in a recording booth.
I do not understand why people are calling each other c**ts and homosexuals for liking or disliking Neverwinter Nights 2. In my opinion the game is not great enough or terrible enough to demand that kind of emotion.

No I have to agree with some other people here. Obsidian/Bioware made a handful of good games and a lot of mediocre titles and some genuinely bad stuff.
I loved New Vegas cuz its truly enjoyable, and has nice lore and all that. Both Knights of the Old Republic are good even if buggy and broken. The first Mass Effect was awesome but of course anything thats massively successful has to get a shitload of useless sequels. And The Outer Worlds was just OK, and not worth a second playthru.

Bethesda already has their plate full with half the team trying to fix Starfield and the other half doing TESVI currently. No way MS will wait that long, the TV show will be long done by then. Expect remakes and spinoffs to happen in the meantime.

On a mechanical level, it’s the most polished a BethSoft game has ever been. Its biggest problem was that it gutted the RPG elements to the point it just straight up wasn’t an RPG anymore. People were able to overlook FO3’s jank because it had actual RPG mechanics to compensate.

Yeah to me The Outer Worlds is a very good example of people not really forming their own opinions. This game came out during a time where Bethesda was being shat on for 76, and the whole marketing campaign behind it had them poking fun at Bethesda. My dream game is a Fallout x Elder Scrolls crossover game that isn't designed by Bethesda. The story can loosely go as follows, Draedric gods catch wind of Fallout-universe scientists fiddling with the fabric of space and time (like the Syndicate being able to teleport people) and their magic and science gets crossed into making a Oblvion-gate style portal where worlds collide.
Why the frick won't they make this game? All you gotta do is take Fallout stuff and mix it with Elder Scrolls stuff, it's all very doable with existing resources. It seems so obvious and everybody would buy it, even if Bethesda made it.
I think we were all hoping for some nods to fallout and elder scrolls in starfield, it was the perfect opportunity

On the one hand, yes, I'm never playing a Todd game again after Starfield. Could write off Fallout 4 as a misstep and 76 as a lazy cashgrab but three duds in a row is a pattern. On the other I don't know who the frick you'd give it to. No one else makes these sorts of games any more. All the actually competent RPG studios are doing isometric stuff these days and there's no way Microsoft are signing off on the Atom: RPG or Colony Ship lads making one of these.

I mean, yeah, BG3 shifted 10 million copies, which isn't far off Fallout 4's 12 million, but the suits at Microsoft desperately trying to push this out the door before the normie interest sparked by the show dries up are never going to look at it in those terms. Whoever makes it it's going to be Fallout 3 again. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if we get a remaster of 3 or NV before a Fallout 5. No, that number was from before the show, actually. I doubt the show had a significant impact on any of the fallout game's total sales numbers. Maybe a few hundred thousand extra sales.
To be fair, it is a new IP but yes Fallout got huge thanks to 3 and even though I didn't care for it I won't delude myself that it failed.
I dont think Fallout 4 was a dud but it certainly did not impress, and yeah a downward trend in fun three times in a row indicates serious problems. Even if Elder Scrolls 6 looks good I'll be waiting a month or two for thousands of reviews to pour in. Main problem with Starfield is they let fanboys play it early but only on the condition they release positive reviews and it shows. After launch the honest people chimed in and it was considered not so wonderful.
Who did it not impress? It's one of their top selling games of all time. Pretty sure Skyrim is the only thing that's outsold it.

Yes? Many licensed games started exactly because of that. Picrel most likely started development after Civil War and Black Panther came out for example. That's 5 years ago. Suicide Squad games started development after the movie. Indiana Jones game MachineGames is making most likely started development because of shitty 5th movie that flopped and forgotten already and game isn't even out yet. Even Ubisoft's Avatar game was supposed to come out with Avatar 2 but got delayed.
