What is /tg/'s opinion on the new edition of Midnight for 5e?
For those who don't know, it's basically Lord of the Rings where Sauron Won.
Is this new edition worth it or should I continue with the version for 3.5?

My opinion is that it's hilarious that they had the budget to do all that art and make a physical book but no money to make sure their OGL was actually compliant
KWAB
I didn't know that, but yes, it's actually funny.
Wait. What has happened?
Part of the terms of use of the OGL is that you have to designate Open Game Content (what other people can use without permission) and Product Identity (what other people can't use without permission). Omission of either is commonplace in earlier 3.X material and modern one-man operations, but for such a big budget publication it's embarrassing. They are aslo technically in violation of the OGL, although WOTC won't do anything about it.
So it's a non-issue
>it's a non-issue
Not for people like me whose only interest was in legally reproducible mechanics
I've no need for an edgy LotR AU written for the worst WOTC D&D edition
fake and gay

~~*Who*~~ asked for this?
The proposal is cool, players have to adopt guerrilla strategies and be more cautious, magic is rare and attracts the attention of enemies, there are many different types of undead, orcs and other monsters for players to face and the mechanics of Heros Paths is another interesting way to customize the characters even more.
So, I strongly recommend the older editions, especially for those who like Lotr but want a more open setting. I don't know about 5e but you can't go wrong with the 3.0 and 3.5 versions.
Another detail.
It's up to the DM to decide if it's possible to defeat the BBEG.
Why aren't you posting a .pdf, OP? How am I supposed to comment on the game without reading it?
Check the Share thread
I'll be honest: I've never been able to figure that stuff out.
be patient and read the FAQ

Cheers, anon. Thanks kindly.
I'm not finding Legacy of Darkness.
>Faq is now on mega
Booo
But that’s also the premise of LotR. The reason Fellowship is formed is to end Sauron’s winning.

Thank you. I managed to get the links working, including to the 1st and 2nd editions, but I couldn't find the game itself.
Reading this thread and about Midnight makes me want to get back to hashing out my "Star Wars as a Fantasy Campaign" idea.
There's a lot of material in this game that's worth reusing in other campaigns, especially the Hero Paths
Name 3 other things worth reusing
The Legates order, the Fell and the Black mirrors
What the Dick are any of those
Check the book and see by your self.
But Star Wars is already a fantasy setting!
They stripped a lot of the things that were unique about the Midnight setting (such as the various races being related and interfertile, for example) in favour of making it even more of a vanilla Tolkien ripoff but where evil has won. Dull. Anyone can literally run this by saying, "Vanilla elves, dwarves, and halflings only, no clerics, and you're in a world where the Big Bad is in control, orcs are police, and you're plucky rebels."
it is a pity for a long time i waited for midnight to come back, i think it's better to keep using the old stuff anyway.
I've never heard of this setting before, so, talk about what it was and what its history is.
Nope. I'm not watching some internet celebrity gay talk about a game.
It is/was a popular enough setting to get its own movie (with porn tier production values):
what the heck
Eh, this looks like a very bland setting. It's about what I'd expect from a typical D&D setting where the evil overlord won. The book has pretty art. That's about all it's got going for it. Quite boring.
