In fairness Sony started out making video games. Sony Imagesoft was the publishing label and they'd contract devs, notably Psygnosis, to do the actual work. They were games, not movie games.
It was Squaresoft arguably that demonstrated just how much people loved watching cutscenes and there were calls to make a CGI movie from Squaresoft practically from the moment FF7 was announced.
Sony the movie-game studio didn't happen until Naughty Dog decided that they didn't want to make shit like Jak anymore and would rather make action movies with interaction and again, people bought it so much that now Sony got in on that act. And you should rejoice because so far they've been not doing fantastic with it. Onions of war sold a ton, but it also cost everything to make so they ain't terribly happy with it and the Snoy California execs have been in job justification mode for a while.

I think is the last generation of where consoles stayed relevant, yes. The matter of the fact is you can't point to another console after this that had an exclusives list this long. So yeah after 6th gen i was basically done with consoles at that point, there's only some fraction of the PS3 that stayed relevant but it was shocking compared to this.

The GBA/DS/PSP was the peak because companies were trying too hard to homogenize the feel of a high profile console game since then, even if it was still very original thanks to not being able to do muh realism like they can do now, the seeds were planted and the xbox 360/PS3 was the result of it.
All 3 were shit. Had gbasp, it had cotm and sword of mana, rest shit. 3DS, DS had Flower Sun & Rain, snapped it in half, no regrets over dragon quest stary skiesbein so shit. Had 2 vitas, peace walker was an ok grindan, nothing special, in nobody's top 10.
Graphics are good, imagination is limited by graphics. If not for high res and low spec games would be the fmvs and bullshots of old.
Ps2 was interlaced into progressive so the signal was twice as blurry as Xbox or GameCube. It also had terrible environment render sizes plus the worst grafix. All the lasers died so you literally need an unopened one or a laser replaced one for too much money.

no, ps1 was the peak. Original xbox was good too but everything started going down hill with the 360 and ps3 era.
360 was only great due to online multiplayer with the bois and calling strangers Black person. Solo play I always enjoyed comfy PS2 games. Looking back I realize online multiplayer is temporary, as the community comes and goes. But a good game is always there, waiting for you patiently.

2000 - 2006 was peak gaming kino years. Within the first year of the PS2's life we got at least 8 if not more stone cold classics. The XBSX and PS5 have been out for nearly 3 years now and there's been... uhh...
My personal favorite era is not-too-early 3D, anywhere from pic related to late PSX. But if someone would say that PS2 era is the best, I wouldn't bother trying to argue against it, PS2 got tons of great games and it's hard to deny that it had best jank to fun ratio. Through PS2 times, controls were already more or less figured out, but devs were still somewhat influenced by arcade, and games were still a primarily offline thing that aimed to offer peak fun with just what you've got on a disc, with no external resources.
Early 3D games and arcades were still popular enough back during that era while the PS2 was going. So it's hard to say it was a bad era when everything good was still there.
It's in between PS2 or SNES/Genesis. I lean toward PS2, the gen right after sucked fricking ass in the most infuriating ways and we have yet to fully recover.

Some of these may also have an arcade version but Sonic 2 and Sonic 3&K, Streets of Rage 2 and 3, Altered Beast, Golden Axe 3, Shinobi 3, Shining Force. I mainly had a SNES as a kid so I'm not super familiar but Genesis definitely had a good library
