Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 on the GBA proved early on that the system was more than a portable SNES. I don't think this game could have been done with the SuperFX2 chip.

Nintendo really held onto the GameBoy for a long period of time though. The original unit released in 1989, and the GBC was released in 1998 beside the Neo-Geo Pocket. The GBC was like a spec upgrade with colour. The GBA in 2001 was an improvement. The system's 2D capabilities fall somewhere between the SNES and the PS1. The system can do a lot of sprite scaling and rotational effects. The system outputs at a lower resolution than the SNES. I liked the system because it delivered a lot of 16-32bit ish styled 2D games.

    moron.
Back then it was like if the PS5 just came out and we were able to play PS4 games. The GBA was as powerful as an SNES even though that console was only a few years out of date at this point.

I still remember getting a bunch of my favourite SNES games on GBA (Super Mario World, ALttP, DKC 1-3) and feeling like a king with all those classics in my pocket.

I've been playing the fan translation of SRW J recently and I gotta say I'm impressed by what the GBA could do. Some of the music and sprite work are fantastic

    Final Fight One (GBA)

On one hand, the GBA port can put more sprites on the screen with less slowdown. It looks like a juiced up SNES. SNES is a little higher 256x224 vs 240x160. But on the other hand, the SNES game sounds nicer. The GBA has less audio cache? The GBA is sampled based too, but seems to be CPU driven.

OP I'm sorry you're too young to have never had a massive leap in tech from a generation change. Hope you've enjoyed playing the same GTA5 and Mario Kart 8 games for the last decade though.

The lack of light was atrocious, it somehow felt even worse than OG Game Boy/Game Boy Color, but the design and feel in your hands was so slick after a decade+ of the same bricks. You had to be there.
