Danganronpa never really lived up to the unique presentation and concept of the first game. I like how maximalist and ballsy V3 gets, but it also shows Kodaka’s inability to one-up himself, as well as stand alongside the artists he works with that made DR what it was aesthetically. It’s the same formula and plot structure from 1 and 2, and it feels like the meta aspect about pointless sequels is partially a mask to obscure his lack of ideas for a more genuine attempt at making a successor. Rain Code being super close to DR, with him even admitting he had a hard time writing anything new, makes V3 and 2’s attempts at subversion feel even sadder in retrospect. UDG is the only one that came out feeling unique in a similar way as the first.
I’m a big fan of all four, but DR1 is the special one despite its flaws. It was a weird, out-of-left-field game with a style that can’t be replicated. And looking back on the games I’m left with some disappointment because I feel like the unique potential the series had was wasted.
THH has the worst character ever made in history (Toko) so that alone makes it the worst of the trilogy.

Rain Code continues the curse of having Ch. 3 be the worst written chapter. I wonder if Kodaka is cursed or something. Although Rain Code is worse since its ending completely forgets about what chapter 3 brought up.

How bad is it? Danganronpa 1/2 were already the stupidest games I ever played in my life but I heard they're the most grounded, tame episodes in the serie.
Also why was the murder of the foolmouthed e-girl in 2 never explained? Hiyoko just died because? And how did she die? What was the weapon of the crime? I think they quickly throw nekomaru at you turned into a robot next to distract you from how badly that episode was written.
Hiyoko wasn't meant to die during development. They changed their mind at some point, though, and sloppily tacked on her death.

Most of Danganronpa V3 is a pretty decent murder mystery, until you reach the final trial, where the final boss tells you that the first two games were just pointless video games that you shouldn't care about that much, that you are personally a bad person for enjoying games about teenagers killing each other, and that everything in the series is pointless because it's just a dumb game series. At the end, she summons the spirits of the audience to complain about how meta endings suck until you defeat her by not paying attention anymore and moving on from Danganronpa as a series.

this is the worst part. it has some of the better kills and characters of the series, not to mention mystery because everything points to it being something completely different from the regular games.
Danganronpa is overrated shit, in the third chapter you always know it’s a double murder, the fourth chapter is the death of le strong man. The fifth chapter is the death of Mary sue friend and twist occurs.
What I dislike is how quickly everyone is forgetting we're in a deadly situation with bodies pilling up. Someone's murdered and the next day we're hanging out having fun and making pancakes. I know it's for kids and the protagonists are teenagers but come the frick on. There's no tension.
Also all the moronic speech about muh friendship, muh hope. I hate anime tropes so much.

I think 2 is the worst example of that since there really isn't tension in the group. The game tries way too hard to make everyone friends and want to get along.

Monokuma tells them that they were friends and they try to be friends and stay together as a group even after each case. That's why the killings have more impact than in the first game. No one kills for a completely selfish reason, they are all driven to kill because their virtues are exploited. Calling that a "flaw" is simply admitting that you missed the point.

He could have stopped at any time, but if he didn't kill Maizono, Sakura would have probably targeted him next anyway.
When I was playing 1 I was coming with theories to try to guess where the story was going to go. I was thinking that it might be a government plan to create spies or killers, if one of the student did manage to come up with a plan to kill everyone and stay on top even after the trial he gets a job as an assassin or something. And it would explain the near endless fund necessary to run this whole thing + the brainwashing at the start ( not unrealistic given how secret operations and unclassified stuff sometimes has brainwashed/hypnotized people ).
Then at the end nothing made fricking sense. Some psycho b***h shows up and has zero motive for running the whole operation, you don't know how she ended up in charge, you don't know why or how your memories got taken from you and your classmates, there's some "tragedy" that happened outside or whatever, entire game faceplants like a dried turd. Can writers even try?
