- short circuit
Even then most of the time demos are moronic enough to hold down m2 meaning I can heal the sg faster than they do damage

Then buff the other classes side grades to bring it up to snuff. Pyro's combos were basically his version of the direct hit and not only were the combos nerfed (the weapons) but literally his core mechanics to do combos (airblast and afterburn) were nerfed. That would be like if soldier rocket jumping velocity got slashed in half and the self damage was increased by 50. That's how using every pyro primary/secondary feels now.

The power of other classes' alternate weapons has no bearing on if the Direct Hit is well-balanced in relation to the Rocket Launcher, which it is.

I always used stock/flare/axting or stock/shotgun/axting or homewrecker until they nerfed the axting and airblast, now I barely play because the game doesn't feel as good anymore.

I was never obsessed with detonator, and I never even got to play around with det jumping before it got nerfed. I genuinely missed out and that's probably another of the 50 reasons why I never picked up pyro. gays LOVE scorch shot even though it's just an annoyance. It feels a lot better and enables other plays. The jetpack is also a semi-decent enabler but its holster speeds fricking suck. Being a responsive weapon is a good enough reason for people to swear by it.

The hardest players to backstab are unchallenged players. If a group just wiped your team and is now capping the point, it will probably be hard to get in because none of their mental stack is toward facing front and fighting anymore. This is also when your de-cloak is most likely to be heard. You can get picks on even the most aware players, but you need your team to be occupying them for it to happen. There can be an unconscious bias on your end to set up and de-cloak in quiet areas because you want to be stealthy, but you're hardest to notice when an area is in chaos.

Is it more normal to have a "main" or to play all the classes? I have more hours in some classes than others (I think my top 4 are scout, Soldier, sniper, spy) but if I load into a server and there's one class with no players in the select screen, I play that class. In a given decent length play session I'll probably play at least 6 of the classes. And I don't feel like this limits my skill development or whatever, I feel really strong with all the classes, they just have different tools and niches for the map and objective.
Normal is a setting on a washing machine bro. But yeah, I say that I have a main but I really play half of the cast pretty regularly just to keep my enemies on their toes and to help my team. I mostly play pyro, medic, soldier, heavy and scout.

TF2 is very low skill game. It's structured in a way that lives are disposable, in situations where skill matters like aiming it generally has very little impact

Soldier's VA died some time ago due to iirc throat cancer. Which is also why he stopped having screams as he recorded voice lines because it hurt him.

i can somewhat explain it. it's essentially the update people have been dying to get for no less than 5 years, the update people hoped would stop the bot crisis and get valve off their ass to care about the video game they cultivated and developed for nine years(pushing 16 this year, frick me, what's that make it now like 25?)
valve did not deliver what they initially promised, but they delivered enough for the vast majority of people to be satisfied, it also helps that they keep taking community bug fixes en masse as well as, at least from what i've seen, have implemented some kind of community made blacklist that records and monitors bots and cheaters
also last i saw one of the major bot creators was put in "frick me in the ass" prison for real
also i should add that the player count is largely inflated because of actual returners, as in people who dropped the game for good until valve got off their asses to fix the reasons they stopped playing, namely the overabundance of cheaters and bots

Probably a mix of things. Tf2 was in gaming news a lot because of updates. The meet the shorts kept going until like 2011 or 2012. So community was smaller, but active, and also not third worlds and children. Teens and adults produce content, not kids. And you might be conflating a lot of that impact with later stuff after 2010. Tf2 has been out since 2007, it had more impact on the 2010s than 2000s.
It had plenty of relevance on Ganker and there was definitely relevance outside of that (an entire altchan was dedicated solely to it) but TF2 never took off on consoles despite the Orange Box. TF2 has basically been 100% stagnant since 2015, so it's no surprise zoomers have forsaken it for fortnite and other gay FOTM shit that has a marketing budget of $400 Trillion. I wish VALVe would dedicate more than one internet with flexible hours to keeping the game's life support plugged in.

TF2 was never a normalgay game, the most they knew was "those characters from gmods and memes". Though, I think that's also one of it's strengths. It's a game spread by word of mouth and stands on its own.
Give the people tools to create and they'll market the game for you. It's surprising that seemingly no one but Valve learned this.
Of course, making a game good enough at its core that it prevails over bad times that would kill any lesser game helps too.

Whatever employee(s) handles the current updates just picks highly-rated workshop maps and items at random. That's how we ended up with maps like Bread Space, which still has a memory leak that can crash your game 2 years after being added.
The main dev working on Cactus Canyon, Cayle George, left Valve, so until he comes back and decides to finish it nobody is gonna do the work for him. Same thing happened with Powerhouse >Powerhouse was meant to be a 2007 launch map but wasn't finished in time >Dev that made the map left Valve >He came back sometime in 2014-2015 and finished the map >Map is added with Gun mettle 8 years after its intended release
Some things to know: >When you disguise, a puff of smoke surrounds you for a while afterwards unless you disguised while fully invisible >Turning visible has an audio cue that experienced players can notice in a quiet area. Same for swinging the knife
The absolute worst thing you can do as a Spy is be running towards enemies facing you. You WILL be spy-checked and killed. Running backwards is better but still dangerous.
Ideally, your disguise's role is to fool sentries and to buy yourself just a precious moment long enough to get your pick before someone checks you. You want to already be behind the team when you de-cloak. Learn where ammo pickups are on the map and be watchful for the medium ammo kits dead people drop as these refill your cloak. You can also equip the L'etranger to increase your cloak duration.
Basically if you're running disguised around enemies for more than 3 seconds before a backstab, you're playing games with your life.
To keep max movement speed, your disguise choices are Scout, Medic and Spy. Scout sounds like a bad idea since you're obviously slower than a real one, but if you follow the rule of the disguise only buying you a precious moment, then Scout is a good one. That's because his model is small making you a tad less noticeable, and your head hitbox is not visible.
People tend to check all spies in my experience. People actually fall for Medic though.
When a player respawns, they can see the location of all allied players + your disguise if not invisible. This means people may see their own name on you and call you out immediately. Just another reason not to linger visible. Whenever you backstab someone you'll be able to pick up the ammo kit they drop from proximity so when you've cleared the way in front of you, turn invisible and GTFO.

It'd let spies at least pretend to be heavies, snipers, and even medics without immediately raising suspicion. I can detect spies like the best of them simply from what direction they're moving in, but at the same time what else are spies supposed to do when disguised? Their options are "do nothing", "run at you", "turn invisible", or "drop disguise". All of which are suspicious.
This, for Gaben's favorite class it sure got flanderized quickly due to lack of options. That's basically why Spy is F-tier in comphomosexualry. I miss the old YER set with silent cloaking.
This also happens with weapons too, every time i pull out the direct hit, huntsman, zatoichi or dragons fury there will be more people using it later at match.

I once jokingly said soldier was the weakest in the class and needed serious buffs and everyone agreed.
spy has been buffed like crazy. sniper has straight up weapon upgrades. medic has been buffed to be better at combat and build ubercharge faster and the vaccinator is OP. engineer has been buffed like crazy. heavy has been buffed to move faster and self-heal. demo maybe hasnt been as buffed as much as the others but he has received many new options and since he basically has 2 primary weapons u can easiliy switch out one to get all kinds of buffs. pyros backburner is pretty much a straight up upgrade in 90% of contexts, and the flare gun means pyros range has been buffed to the extreme. scout hasnt been buffed much but he has at least received some secondaries that are pretty much upgrades. only soldier upgrade is the escape plan, all other soldier weapons are sidegrades that are highly contextual and make the soldier worse at its primary purpose which is map control

Yeah except fire is the easiest effect to put out in the game and every class has a way to minimize or douse it. Also the bison is better at stuffing long hallway pushes since you have multiple shots unlike flares and it can penetrate, the SS can compete but that weapon makes people seethe because pyro isn't allowed to have long range splash weapons like the 2 explosive classes and wrangler engie and himself with the detonator.

Demo's received received that notable sticky nerf and really hasn't received any weapon that's better than his stock loadout (keep in mind he's literally the only class this is true for).
Soldier's kind of in the same boat as scout, they've never had direct buffs because they're already acknowledged to be really good classes, and as far as unlocks go their stock primaries and secondaries remain arguably their best (though some are also arguably upgrades) while their melees end up with some blatant upgrades due to the classic "non-melee usage melees for classes you don't melee with where the only downside is less melee damage = blatant upgrade".

I find the air-strike's burst is way better at catching engineers off-guard than the direct hit

Pyro's combos were basically his version of the direct hit and not only were the combos nerfed (the weapons) but literally his core mechanics to do combos (airblast and afterburn) were nerfed. That would be like if soldier rocket jumping velocity got slashed in half and the self damage was increased by 50. That's how using every pyro primary/secondary feels now.

The size is bigger but it can be surfed to avoid combos now and it's less consistent in how it pushes. It's a nerf that makes no sides happy since soldier babies cry about a bigger overall hitboxes and people that actually play pyro don't like how inconsistent it is now

I was never obsessed with detonator, and I never even got to play around with det jumping before it got nerfed. It feels a lot better and enables other plays. The jetpack is also a semi-decent enabler but its holster speeds fricking suck. Being a responsive weapon is a good enough reason for people to swear by it.

Is it more normal to have a "main" or to play all the classes? I have more hours in some classes than others (I think my top 4 are scout, Soldier, sniper, spy) but if I load into a server and there's one class with no players in the select screen, I play that class. In a given decent length play session I'll probably play at least 6 of the classes. And I don't feel like this limits my skill development or whatever, I feel really strong with all the classes, they just have different tools and niches for the map and objective.
I think newer players (post 2014) will always have a main class while older players will just try to pick what the team needs

Soldier's VA died some time ago due to iirc throat cancer. Which is also why he stopped having screams as he recorded voice lines because it hurt him.

i can somewhat explain it. it's essentially the update people have been dying to get for no less than 5 years, the update people hoped would stop the bot crisis and get valve off their ass to care about the video game they cultivated and developed for nine years(pushing 16 this year, frick me, what's that make it now like 25?)
valve did not deliver what they initially promised, but they delivered enough for the vast majority of people to be satisfied, it also helps that they keep taking community bug fixes en masse as well as, at least from what i've seen, have implemented some kind of community made blacklist that records and monitors bots and cheaters
also last i saw one of the major bot creators was put in "frick me in the ass" prison for real
also i should add that the player count is largely inflated because of actual returners, as in people who dropped the game for good until valve got off their asses to fix the reasons they stopped playing, namely the overabundance of cheaters and bots

So community was smaller, but active, and also not third worlds and children. Teens and adults produce content, not kids. And you might be conflating a lot of that impact with later stuff after 2010. Tf2 has been out since 2007, it had more impact on the 2010s than 2000s.
It had plenty of relevance on Ganker and there was definitely relevance outside of that (an entire altchan was dedicated solely to it) but TF2 never took off on consoles despite the Orange Box. TF2 has basically been 100% stagnant since 2015, so it's no surprise zoomers have forsaken it for fortnite and other gay FOTM shit that has a marketing budget of $400 Trillion. How do I Spy more effectively? These c**ts know it's me the instant I am disguised.
Change to Sniper
spy is directly dependent on enemy team IQ, if their team is smarter than your team you have no chance
Some things to know:
>When you disguise, a puff of smoke surrounds you for a while afterwards unless you disguised while fully invisible
>Turning visible has an audio cue that experienced players can notice in a quiet area. Same for swinging the knife
The absolute worst thing you can do as a Spy is be running towards enemies facing you. You WILL be spy-checked and killed. Running backwards is better but still dangerous.
Ideally, your disguise's role is to fool sentries and to buy yourself just a precious moment long enough to get your pick before someone checks you. You want to already be behind the team when you de-cloak. Learn where ammo pickups are on the map and be watchful for the medium ammo kits dead people drop as these refill your cloak. You can also equip the L'etranger to increase your cloak duration.
Basically if you're running disguised around enemies for more than 3 seconds before a backstab, you're playing games with your life.
To keep max movement speed, your disguise choices are Scout, Medic and Spy. Scout sounds like a bad idea since you're obviously slower than a real one, but if you follow the rule of the disguise only buying you a precious moment, then Scout is a good one. That's because his model is small making you a tad less noticeable, and your head hitbox is not visible.
People tend to check all spies in my experience. People actually fall for Medic though.
When a player respawns, they can see the location of all allied players + your disguise if not invisible. This means people may see their own name on you and call you out immediately. Just another reason not to linger visible. Whenever you backstab someone you'll be able to pick up the ammo kit they drop from proximity so when you've cleared the way in front of you, turn invisible and GTFO.
The hardest players to backstab are unchallenged players. If a group just wiped your team and is now capping the point, it will probably be hard to get in because none of their mental stack is toward facing front and fighting anymore. This is also when your de-cloak is most likely to be heard. You can get picks on even the most aware players, but you need your team to be occupying them for it to happen. There can be an unconscious bias on your end to set up and de-cloak in quiet areas because you want to be stealthy, but you're hardest to notice when an area is in chaos.

spy has been buffed like crazy. sniper has straight up weapon upgrades. medic has been buffed to be better at combat and build ubercharge faster and the vaccinator is OP. engineer has been buffed like crazy. heavy has been buffed to move faster and self-heal. demo maybe hasnt been as buffed as much as the others but he has received many new options and since he basically has 2 primary weapons u can easiliy switch out one to get all kinds of buffs. pyros backburner is pretty much a straight up upgrade in 90% of contexts, and the flare gun means pyros range has been buffed to the extreme. scout hasnt been buffed much but he has at least received some secondaries that are pretty much upgrades. only soldier upgrade is the escape plan, all other soldier weapons are sidegrades that are highly contextual and make the soldier worse at its primary purpose which is map control

Yeah except fire is the easiest effect to put out in the game and every class has a way to minimize or douse it. Also the bison is better at stuffing long hallway pushes since you have multiple shots unlike flares and it can penetrate, the SS can compete but that weapon makes people seethe because pyro isn't allowed to have long range splash weapons like the 2 explosive classes and wrangler engie and himself with the detonator.

Demo's received received that notable sticky nerf and really hasn't received any weapon that's better than his stock loadout (keep in mind he's literally the only class this is true for).
Soldier's kind of in the same boat as scout, they've never had direct buffs because they're already acknowledged to be really good classes, and as far as unlocks go their stock primaries and secondaries remain arguably their best (though some are also arguably upgrades) while their melees end up with some blatant upgrades due to the classic "non-melee usage melees for classes you don't melee with where the only downside is less melee damage = blatant upgrade".
you could make the argument that the iron bomber is better than stock even after the hitbox nerf, though it's only marginally different from stock lel
