I choose the furry pound, those guys offer the mostly better option - my only real complaint is that I don’t think I can punch in the same weight class as the top scoring players there, but that’s a personal problem tbh

Unironically by avoiding comp and just focusing on content anyone can enjoy. CompBlack folk just care about twitch shooting, le epic rollouts, and a utilitarian meta. That's why when you balance for comp, you get something like Overwatch; anyone who just wants to play the game has to wait in roll queue and now more than half the roster has been nerfed into worthlessness for being "not fun to play against" (read: interesting and fun and goofy).
Valve is smart enough to understand that 1. compgays are never satisfied and 2. specialist classes like Engie and Heavy and Spy are what give TF2 its flavor compared to being just another F2P objective shooter, and fricking with them would remove all the jank and soul that allowed TF2 to survive this long.
It's not just having the knowledge to make a fun game full of fun shit, but having the wisdom to not frick with it because some twitterbabbys who started playing in 2014 took issue with it.

The games population isn't high enough anymore to support lots of options in the server browser.
TF2s actual population is MAX 20k on a good day.
