Every developer I used to love is now either a Chinese mobile-tier garbage pit intent on even ruining their old games, or a slave to a corporate machine that doesn't care about making anything new and instead opts for remakes and remasters.

EA is basically a MTX shop with a game development studio attached to it. Most of their money comes from shit like FIFA and Madden UT. I would argue that games like NFS, Dead Space, etc. Are more like PR investments for the studio. Even if Dead Space is a massive hit it’s not going to make the money that one month of FIFA UT brings in. Same with DA and ME.

Dead Space remake has been in development far less than Dragon Age has been. Dragon Age also won't release before Q2 2024 more likely. Estimates put dev budget + marketing budget at $300-350m. This game will have to sell upward of 7 million copies, at launch, at a 100% digital rate, just to break even. By comparison, Anthem sold ~3.5m copies at 51% digital rate, meanwhile it needed 4m copies minimum, as cited by EA themselves, to consider the game a success. Dread Wolf is a guaranteed flop.
Yea, I mean, this new Dead Space is a complete disaster. So is Mass Effect. I don’t know why they are continuing because we all know these are just random trannies and women occupying a building making horrid shit. It’s Bioware in name only. I guess EA feels there is value in putting out these prestige RPGs but it’s not going to make money and it’s going to be horrible so they’ll learn.

Yeah, but it sold in retail only, and the games were heavily discounted after a couple of weeks. After the first month, copies were in the bargain bin for $5. At that price point, you're selling those copies at a huge loss. In fact, you're just trying to cut your loses, as production, licensing and distribution cost you far more than those $5. There is no return on investment there. If you sold 1.5 million copies at an average sale price of $5, you made $7.5m back, with a budget of allegedly $100m. Although I think Anthem's budget was closer to $150m, because even the Frostbite team and DICE worked on that for over 6 months. In addition to Bioware Edmonton, Bioware Austin and whatever contractor studios Edmonton employed. And even then, pic related. Meaning, out of that $7.5m, it'd be a wonder if Bioware/EA got any as revenue back.

This just proves the gaming industry is unsustainable. Needing to sell 3 million just to break even at the floor is ridiculous. No wonder we're seeing safe, homogeneous games. Kind of makes me appreciate Hi-Fi Rush and Pentiment a little more.
I do wonder, though, if prices could come down if they weren't trying to emulate film. I recently played Severed Steel, and that was probably some of the most fun I've had with a video game in a long time. It's short, yeah, but it's also a one-man job. Imagine what a small team could churn out.
Dunno why they have to have these teams of 200+ working to just string together a bunch of mocapped, walk-and-talk exposition dumps.

It was a trash live service game. No one cared about anything "woke" or bullshit like that. Everyone saw it for what is was, a hollow, soulless, desperate attempt to create a never ending pipeline of money.
You take a studio with an amazing reputation for single player games and storylines, and force them to do a live service multiplayer looter shooter? It's plain as day, and people aren't interested.
Companies will keep throwing hundreds of millions into live services that are DOA, all because the live service is a corporate wet dream, where people will pay you again and again and again, for the same mediocre content.
They see GTA Online, WOW, etc - they wet their lips and stroke their wieners, pouring hundreds of millions of dollars into live services no one wants and no one plays.
It's astounding, the sheer amount of money and effort poured into live service games, just to watch them all fail, all because of a corporate wet dream. Hell, Square Enix spent hundreds of millions on the Avengers license and hundreds of millions more into developing that game, which flopped badly - so much so they had to sell off all their actually profitable western IP and western studios just to stay afloat - and yet, I bet they will try again.
Live Service games are a death knell for any once decent devloper or publisher, because it indicates when they have lost all reason.

I was actually thinking of buying Anthem so I tried out the live test that came out a few weeks before launch and was just blown away by how bad it was on every level. I played it on a Xbox One X, the most powerful console at the time, and it looked like shit, it ran like shit, it played like shit, it was boring, the entire game was just horrible. Obviously I didn’t get the game and and I wasn’t alone because it was DOA. The real problem is that EA sunk probably hundreds of millions of dollars into this total disaster they couldn’t shape up to even a baseline level of competency.

There are several issues. One is content, which is why the Ubisoft collectathon thing has stayed relevant for so long, and graphics, because normies love pretty graphics.
So games need to last you at least 40 hours, and those 40 hours need to look as good as 30fps, with often dips to 20fps, at 2k can get you on a PS5.
>Yeah but Halo is a sort of mascot for Microsoft. Letting Halo die is like Nintendo letting Mario die.
All the more reason it made more sense to gut 343 years ago and give Halo to somebody less incompetent.
After EA lost the rights to fifa they are desperatly holding to anything they can, too bad they already shut down all the companies that were worth keeping
You think they were worth keeping because a studio with the same name made games you liked long ago. That was a different studio compromised of different people. They should fricking force them to change the name when most of the original crew is gone. Fricking false advertising.
>How is BioWare still alive?
Unironically SWTOR. It makes them stupid money and it keeps them afloat with very little more than a skeleton crew.
On top of that, EA and a bunch of oldgays in the game still believe that BioWare's name still holds 'some' semblance of clout. Especially in the realm of 'good storytelling'
Problem is that a lot of old BioWare gays that made those games and stories are gone. And it seems like more and more keep on leaving
BioWare has always been 'pozzed' and left wing, but they didn't let that get in the way of them telling stories and still told stories that could resonate with gays across the board.
Now, the stories are just getting weaker and weaker and more obtuse for gays to even remotely care about.
If that latest Netflix series is 'remotely' indicative of what quality of writing we are going to get in Dragon Age Dreadwolf, then It's not surprising that gays aren't really going to give a shit about it.
I'm sure it will sell a few copies b/c of BioWare's name is attached to it and oldgays want to believe that 'maybe this will be the one to bring them back!' but whatever 'BioWare Magic' they had is gone and (normal)gays need to move on.
Bioware hadn't made a good game since 2006. There's some soul to Dragon Age Origins and the combat's passable but they're buried under bad writing and repetitive quest design.
So? I thought the problem with Andromeda was the glitches, shit story and amatuer animations. I've never heard anyone complain about the gamepaly of the missions. I guess that would require anons to have actually played it though.
He didn't shit the bed, just so you guys understand. There are several hundred people working at major studios who have worked on Andromeda and Inquisition. You've already experienced the results of their labor. >t. Cyberpunk 2077
How the frick is Bioware even still alive? The new troony Age game is going to be a massive fricking flop and there's zero chance the new Mass Effect will be anything but garbage either.
There was no chance this could ever be good so I can't even feel disappointed at their foolishness. What strikes me is that Andromeda came at a time when journos weren't quite so woke yet and so the game was rightfully panned across the board, but ME4 is guaranteed to be more successful regardless of quality due to the lowered standards and common use of 'inclusion' as a shield.
Playing it now and actually kinda looking forward to 3 the most due to mods. And while 1 definitely has the most overall cohesive story I can't say the gameplay or the level design is all that great either, and half of your party members are pretty lame.
Believe me, With ea the only thing that matters is money, they already have ea play available with GP ultimate, I'm pretty sure Microsoft could buy mass effect as a franchise.
Here's what will happen. They will dismantle what's left of Bioware Edmonton, and make EA Edmonton. With more executive control, more soulless cashgrabs and more promises of "going back to the roots" of what made Mass Effect great. Basically, what 343 Studios is doing to Halo, just with more LGBTQIA2P+ representation.
Bioware died when the talent left or were forced out. Their last game was DAO. Now it is only a brand label. Bioware cereal, Bioware cookies, Bioware toilet paper. How are people here still shocked by this?
I don't know why people expect some kind of return to form for Mass Effect, the devs have been kicking and screaming at fans for a decade now. The games were always 7/10 at best, anyway.
>Andromeda is actually a pretty decent game
It did none of the things that a Mass Effect should do correctly. If all you care is the pew pew, the sure. And even then, there are other games that do it better.
>it did none of the things that a Mass Effect should do correctly.
Not him, but the direction the game went in was definitely where Mass Effect should have went, only executed poorly. It went back to Mass Effect 1's style, in that it made it less of an action game and returned it into an rpg with actual exploration and discovery. The problem was the story was boring because the characters were trash, and they took away your choices having impact. Plus, what you discovered was boring. I like the idea of being able to explore planets in Mass Effect.
Andromeda was a bad attempt at rebooting the series with discount versions of things from the Milky Way galaxy. It wasn't made out of passion, it was made out of desperation to distance themselves as far from ME3's ending as possible. Its entire premise was inherently doomed to fail.
>It went back to Mass Effect 1's style, in that it made it less of an action game
All you did was fricking shoot at shit. Are we going to pretend that exploring big empty worlds full of padding, with a worse vehicle than the Mako, and "scanning" which was glorified Witcher sense, was a good idea? This is not the right franchise for those things. We've been through that already.
This abortion and dreadwolf are going to be spectacular flops that set a new bar for flopping. These games are being developed by failed retreads scamming one last paycheck and diversity hires in way over their heads. I don’t think EA will even bother to hire shills to defend them with any enthusiasm here, similar to andromeda. The memes will be spicy at least.
Just look at Carmack. That guy has been gone for ages. >Will Wright makes ant farms and general software >Molyneux went conman after he left Bullfrog Productions and is now making shitty NFT mobile games >Michel Ancel got bullied out of Ubisoft because he refused to turn BGE2 into liveservice shit
While Obsidian clearly isn't at its peak, it hasn't quite been turned into completely slop like bioware. The fact that Josh Sawyer was even allowed to do a little side passion project like Pentiment means that someone still gives a shit about actually creating something and not just scamming as much money from people as humanly possible.
>work at Bioware >get sacked after your game got horrible reviews and sold like shit >years later the same company hires you again to do the same thing
Andromeda was shit because of extremely forgettable npcs and companions, ubisoft-style open world and animations on drugs.
The gameplay itself was good
It sold around as much as ME2 did in 2010. For an entire trilogy, at that price point, + DLC, that is abysmally low. If it weren't for the fact that this was a $5m job, it would have been a disaster, by 2021 standards.
It shows that the next Mass Effect can appeal to 2.5m people. Should that even be taken as a vote of confidence, that 2.5m people will buy your game regardless, it's going to be Andromeda budgeted, at best, just to break even. And Andromeda budget gets you Andromeda results. Realistically, the next ME would have to have 50% of the total budget, to prove successful, and not result in the franchise becoming defunct 3 days after the release.
>For an entire trilogy, at that price point, + DLC, that is abysmally low.
Minimal work was required to re-release the games. It's basically free money, no development and marketing cost to cover.
They sold something like 3-4 million copies as it was reported to be just short of Resident Evil Village, which sold over 4.5 million copies.
That's a lot for a re-release, easily over $150 million.
>Minimal work was required to re-release the games. It's basically free money, no development and marketing cost to cover.
Yes, I already addressed that. I literally say that, in the next sentence.
>They sold something like 3-4 million copies as it was reported to be just short of Resident Evil Village
Citation.
Tried to see if the starchild voice could be used with the new ai voices so people could use him for the intended dark energy plot and mod that in. Problem is, is that they have shepard and femshep audio in there, so the entire voice recognition is fricked. Still an interesting result however.

No, I mean ME2. We do this song and dance every time. There's no "dark energy plot" in ME2 beyond Tali talking about a sun being unstable. Drew Karpshyn scrapped it in early talks for ME2 story.
>OK, moron.
Is that meant to be the part where you actually explain how ME1 and ME2 further the dark energy plot? That part is always absent from your arguments.

ME2 literally has a star dying from Dark Energy. The Sun in Haestrom? Remember that? That was supposed to be foreshadowing. Meanwhile, ME1, what even is there about Dark Energy? It just wasn't a thing.

>Yes, I do remember that. And that's literally just one star with scientists scanning its dark energy signatures. That's all. That is not a good foundation for a plot or central theme of a good trilogy. Anyone with even the barest understanding of storytelling gets this.
So synthetics harvesting organics for the sole purpose of preserving organics from being killed by synthetics makes more sense, with zero foreshadowing. Gotcha.

What did he actually do though? Andromeda's missions were pretty average quality for this series if you're just looking at their gameplay, the problem was fricking terrible writing.
Plenty.
Jon Epler, Corinne Busche, Patrick Weekes, Karin Weekes and many more.
They greenlit Dragon Age: Absolution, in the form you saw it on Netflix.
Regardless of feelings toward lgbtq+, that scene is just not how people react. You don't spontaneously burst into kissing, when trying to think of a plan. This has never happened, nobody has ever even considered doing it, nobody ever thought it appropriate, nobody in their right mind would ever do it. This is written by someone who doesn't understand how people, gay or not, work. This is like someone gave a prompt to an AI and had it come up with a spontaneous kiss, on the least suspecting scene possible. It feels so out of place, and so jarring, it wouldn't work under any circumstance, or any pairing.
Anyone that's been around since KOTOR knows that the writing's on the wall and either bailed, or is part of the company the same way Wozniak is part of Apple. You can say a lot of shit about Gaider, but I can only imagine the gamer words he was screaming in the comfort of his own home after insane fujos demanded he make a statement about the straight Sera/Dorian mod, which turned out to be the incorrect statement. Keep in mind that the gay Alistair mod was already in full force for years at this point, and everyone seemed to be in full agreement that changing a character sexuality wasn't bad
I'm replaying Andromeda now and having fun. Years after, I'm just laughing at the moronic shit and the character builds allow you to do what you want and it all still works. Also I feel weirdly immersed in it all. The vaults are impressive and I'm looking forward to the Arks. Working on romancing Cora, PeeBee and the reporter. If my taste is shit then I'm okay with that because I get to enjoy more things.
people on Ganker still getting excited for new games is baffling to me.
Regardless of the name it always has the same woke, diversity hires in leadership positions fricking up the entire game.
Mass Effect is one of those weird series where the first game was great but the creators had absolutely NO fricking clue why, so they keep dragging the IP through the mud and releasing total garbage, the series gets increasingly worse with every new entry.
Like Prince of Persia Sands of Time, Valkyria Chronicles, Valkyrie Profile or Dead Space.
>Prince of Persia
Warrior Within and Two Thrones were still good they definitely improved the gameplay >Dead Space
2 is the best game in the series it's a perfect sequel
Eat my shit autistic purist

Same, I mean, I liked Mass Effect games and all, but it doesn't get me excited. And same is true for almost all games now.
Yep, the western game industry is braindead.
Better bury it before it starts to smell
Who the hell is looking forward to ME4 and Dragon Age Deadname? There is literally no chance either of them are good.
Bioware is just EA's diversity hire showroom.

>EA associates Bioware's name with good storytelling
Mass Effect 3 came out 11 years ago
As an oldgay since BG1, I promise to pirate the shit out of their new game.
As an oldgay from BG1, I promise not to even bother with their new game, other than watch the next big blooper/glitch/bug compilation on youtube.
The Andromeda studio didn't survive though
They were mostly absorbed into EA Motive
bruh who keeps buying these corny ass games
Bioware hadn't made a good game since 2006. There's some soul to Dragon Age Origins and the combat's passable but they're buried under bad writing and repetitive quest design.
So? I thought the problem with Andromeda was the glitches, shit story and amatuer animations. I've never heard anyone complain about the gamepaly of the missions. I guess that would require anons to have actually played it though.
yeah the gameplay was fun
the shitty open world and story sucked ass but at least shooting the gun and throwing incinerates was good
>office ambience that makes me feel at work home in my home home
In english, doc?
Holy ravioli. That's a spicy meatball. I can't wait for the next Bioware slop flop.
Shut it DOWN
there goes all my hopes for the game. bioware just needs to go defunct already.
He didn't shit the bed, just so you guys understand. There are several hundred people working at major studios who have worked on Andromeda and Inquisition. You've already experienced the results of their labor.
>t. Cyberpunk 2077
>Mission Objective: Survive
How the frick is Bioware even still alive? The new troony Age game is going to be a massive fricking flop and there's zero chance the new Mass Effect will be anything but garbage either.
just kill Bioware already, burn the body instead of parading it around like it has any value, it's been worthless for a decade.
https://vocaroo.com/1kMJnQpjnDmG
>caring about any Mass Effect past the first
Do you guys really…
There are some things that I like about ME2.
But with ME3 … it's dead.
KYS posthaste
Explain why.
Ywnbaw
There was no chance this could ever be good so I can't even feel disappointed at their foolishness. What strikes me is that Andromeda came at a time when journos weren't quite so woke yet and so the game was rightfully panned across the board, but ME4 is guaranteed to be more successful regardless of quality due to the lowered standards and common use of 'inclusion' as a shield.
Playing it now and actually kinda looking forward to 3 the most due to mods. And while 1 definitely has the most overall cohesive story I can't say the gameplay or the level design is all that great either, and half of your party members are pretty lame.
Honestly I hope it flops like Andromeda and we get some good memes
literally who
Kill bioware. Give mass effect to obsidian.
>EA passing something to Microsoft
Impossible.
I said buy *mass effect*
You immediately jumped to the idea that ea would dismantle bioware and refile it under them.
Frick off.
They're not selling Mass Effect or any other IP.
Again, you put money Infront of them and they'll talk.
Name 5 IPs EA has sold off.
You are not paying attention to what I am saying. Ea will do anything if it gets them more money. That Will probably include selling off franchises.
Show me one (1) incident of that having happened before. EA will prefer killing it, then pawning it off to a competitor.
You didn't play The Outer Worlds, did you?
>The Outer Worlds
Wasn't great, wasn't terrible. I think people just got way overhyped expecting a cult classic like Alpha protocl and NV.
I was expecting something at least semi-decent like Tyranny.
But I dropped all expectations when they showed the dev team.
it's an absolute mystery to me why people still care about bioware. it's a shell of a company that hasn't made a good game for literal years.
The games were always 7/10 at best, anyway.
bingo
They have been fricking up for a long time now. It is wild that they still haven't got the axe.
>make 1 shit game
>you must always make shit games
that's not the case bro
Andromeda is actually a pretty decent game. It failed as an rpg though.
Dude, don't even try with bait that weak.
Mass Effect 1 is boring as frick. Also Fem Shepard is a giraffe hahaha
The memes will be spicy at least.
vocaroo.com/18UmF7HYxdzM
>Obsidian is shit
>Bioware is shit
>Bethesda is shit
>pretty much everything else is dead
Where did all the talent go?
Retirement or out of videogames entirely.
Just look at Carmack. That guy has been gone for ages.
>Will Wright makes ant farms and general software
>Molyneux went conman after he left Bullfrog Productions and is now making shitty NFT mobile games
>Michel Ancel got bullied out of Ubisoft because he refused to turn BGE2 into liveservice shit
Bethesda is fine Black person
Starfield is going to be soulless and pozzed due to Microsoft
Starfield was in development well before Bethesda was acquired by Microsoft
While Obsidian clearly isn't at its peak, it hasn't quite been turned into completely slop like bioware. The fact that Josh Sawyer was even allowed to do a little side passion project like Pentiment means that someone still gives a shit about actually creating something and not just scamming as much money from people as humanly possible.
>work at Bioware
>get sacked after your game got horrible reviews and sold like shit
>years later the same company hires you again to do the same thing
???
Andromeda was shit because of extremely forgettable npcs and companions, ubisoft-style open world and animations on drugs.
The gameplay itself was good
Ah yes, the enemies spawning out of nowhere and blending in with the backgrounds, very good.
>The gameplay itself was good
Go back to the shitting street Manveer.
Mass Effect Legendary Edition showed EA there's still a ton of money to be made with ME.
Citation.
>give me a source!
No.
So you admit to lying. That's great.
I don't need to convince you.
Why do females developing video games look like vegans straight outta Auschwitz or blue haired lardasses?
80s gamer girls looked like this.
Tried to see if the starchild voice could be used with the new ai voices so people could use him for the intended dark energy plot and mod that in. Problem is, is that they have shepard and femshep audio in there, so the entire voice recognition is fricked. Still an interesting result however.
https://vocaroo.com/15G7bbJAMxAb
>for the intended dark energy plot
You mean nonsense that stopped being canon the second ME2 released?
>ME2
You mean ME3.
No, I mean ME2. We do this song and dance every time. There's no "dark energy plot" in ME2 beyond Tali talking about a sun being unstable. Drew Karpshyn scrapped it in early talks for ME2 story.
>No, I mean ME2
OK, moron.
OK, liar.
The entire conversation with harbinger in me1 is about him calling shepherd moronic because the reapers are above them worry about dark energy beyond the galaxy.
Then in two it was DDUUUURRR TERMINATOR BIG MODE
Harbinger never said anything about dark energy
He just said vague pretentious bullshit because Drew had zero idea what the Reaper's motivations were supposed to be yet
>dark energy beyond the galaxy.
Citation.
Gotcha.
>ME2 literally has a star dying from Dark Energy. The Sun in Haestrom? Remember that?
Yes, I do remember that. And that's literally just one star with scientists scanning its dark energy signatures. That's all. That is not a good foundation for a plot or central theme of a good trilogy. Anyone with even the barest understanding of storytelling gets this.
What did he actually do though? Andromeda's missions were pretty average quality for this series if you're just looking at their gameplay, the problem was fricking terrible writing.
He? Is that a man, too?
Oh I didn't even notice it was a girl lol
could be anything at this point, could be a troon
Her face tells me all I need to know.
missions werent the problem. writing was.
>mass effect is still being made
>bioware is still a thing
Well, "not really" to both. Those are just husks wearing the names.
Bioware still exists? When was the last time they didn't produce a complete and utter disaster?
Didn't DAI sell pretty well and win a few GOTYs?
wasn't that like a decade ago?
Is there even a single Bioware employee from 2012 left?
> 2012
They were already corrupted by EA at that point.
As opposed to now where they're all just a dime-a-dozen contractors and diversity hires that won't stick around.
Now they aren't even a real studio anymore and everything they make will be completely irrelevant, so who cares.
Plenty.
Jon Epler, Corinne Busche, Patrick Weekes, Karin Weekes and many more.
They greenlit Dragon Age: Absolution, in the form you saw it on Netflix.
Aren't you excited?
I hate homosexuals so much it's unreal. Why did they latch on to video games like this?
Regardless of feelings toward lgbtq+, that scene is just not how people react. You don't spontaneously burst into kissing, when trying to think of a plan. This has never happened, nobody has ever even considered doing it, nobody ever thought it appropriate, nobody in their right mind would ever do it. This is written by someone who doesn't understand how people, gay or not, work. This is like someone gave a prompt to an AI and had it come up with a spontaneous kiss, on the least suspecting scene possible. It feels so out of place, and so jarring, it wouldn't work under any circumstance, or any pairing.
The lesbian couple didn't work out.
Good. They were awful people.
In fact, the entire cast were awful people.
Keep in mind that the gay Alistair mod was already in full force for years at this point, and everyone seemed to be in full agreement that changing a character sexuality wasn't bad
https://twitter.com/davidgaider/status/570995722419621888
what was the name of that shitty game they made 4 years ago or somthing? With flying powerranger suits and nothing to do in a big empty open world
Anthem. The most forgettable live service looter shooter ever.
>Mission: Go kill an Architect
those not-the-first planes were soo lazily done in MEA
Mass Effect is one of those weird series where the first game was great but the creators had absolutely NO fricking clue why, so they keep dragging the IP through the mud and releasing total garbage, the series gets increasingly worse with every new entry.
Like Prince of Persia Sands of Time, Valkyria Chronicles, Valkyrie Profile or Dead Space.
>Valkyrie Profile
Frick you, VP2 is fantastic.
>Prince of Persia
Warrior Within and Two Thrones were still good they definitely improved the gameplay
>Dead Space
2 is the best game in the series it's a perfect sequel
Eat my shit autistic purist
Honest question: Have women EVER made a single good game?
wait wait wait. you are telling me, that someone who woked on the most recent game in the series is working on the next game in the series!?!?!? NO FUKING WAY WHO THE FUK WOULD DO THIS REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
YWNBAW
What does mission director mean? What has she worked on in between? Why did you feel like it was going to be good in the first place when only the first one was good?
It s over
It's been over for over a decade now
FRICK YOU ANDERS
