Forsaken World
RaiderZ
Rusty Hearts
frickin loved the mount jingle that plays in RaiderZ
shame its dead
>Forsaken World
Peak Bard experience. Literally no game came even close to having bards be as good and fun to play.
It made me fall in love with the class, only to be grossly disappointed with it in every other game.
I kinda miss it
Wildstar died a month after I picked it up. Now literally every MMO has stolen its telegraphed-floor-AoE gimmick
>Wildstar invented AOE visual cues in MMOs
No no, he's got a point.
I honestly don't remember seeing them in WoW until after Wildstar was released. After that there was one in EVERY fight.
They probably popularised it.
They don't even do it like wildstar did.
Thing I liked that Wildstar did and no other game picked up was enivronmental effects.
Mounts running faster on roads or drifting down rivers if you stopped swimming was cool as shit.
Because it didn't use traditional hit boxes. The hit boxes in the game were literally a duplicate of the exact geometry you see on screen. It's also why the game ran like shit. I literally worked on the game btw.
go to bed moenzuel
What was it like working on the game? Was it as bad as some people say?
I loved Wildstar like you wouldn't believe, it definitely wasn't perfect but it had a really cool charm to everything.
I mean effectively there's no reason to play it over GW2 anymore unless you really like vertical progression, but i hope a private server comes up some day
Wildstar made movement, aiming and timing matter in ways which they almost never do in MMOs which was great and the telegraphs offered so much more information in such a good format for group fights that it's a shame it didn't go anywhere.
I recently installed the reverse-engineered pserver testserver just to see if it feels as good as I remember, and the movement is still the best out of any MMO, incredible.
>the movement is still the best out of any MMO
Were you around for closed beta Airdash? It has the best feeling movement because there's a simple physics system behind it with intertia instead of just pointer movement which every single other MMO uses. You can gain speed when falling and rolling into troughs or jump higher by running with some momentum up ramps. The removal of airdash from the beta was a tragedy.
Oh no, that's too early for me. Reminds me of the dives that Mario and Hat Kid can do lmao. Bet it felt amazing.
Wildstar would have been a pretty solid MMO right now. With Decline of WoW and FFXIV being story mode. They easily could have cleaned up the "feel" people
It wouldn't. Wildstar died for the same reason that WoW went in decline, hyper focus on hardcore raiding content.
Wildstar wanted to be a hardcore version of WoW and bring back the old style of hardcore raiding from the old MMOs, but it failed to realise that no one wants it.
They tried to appeal to a group of people that want a MMO with harcore proguession that is focused on raiding, but those people are a minority in a already small market.
Most people don't like that kind of thing and that is why every MMO that tries to deliver it inevitably dies.
there has already been tons of diferent MMOs that tryid to bring back the old school style back to a modern gaming audinece and time and time again we see that no one wants it.
Just look at those replys, everytime people talk about the things they miss about Wildstar they talk about: movement, physic, housing, cosmetics, aesthetics, etc...
No one talk about the leveling grind, the long attunement process, the unforgiven raids, the fact that boss fights looked like a the floor of a dance club. That is because no one really cares about those kind of things and the people that do can't sustain a single server by thenselves.
The game is dead because of this and even if it came back to life it would just die again. Is better to just move on and forget.
>No one talk about the leveling grind
I would argue that leveling is one of the worst. you advertise the game as raid mmo but you make them play through one of the most shittest western mmo leveling out there. I had more fun leveling in P1999 than that crap. The announcer is shit. The game ping you to billions of quest around you and you cannot turn it off. I wouldn't be surprise this grind had 20% of the newcomer bail on the game
The game was trying to follow WoW model of raiding with a leveling process based around Ultima online and Everquest. Of course it didn't worked, the entire game had those weird design decision that pushed people away.
Yeah I know, and one of the thing they SHOULDN'T try to copy. It annoys me that they did.
I really liked the way some levelling content was genuinely difficult instead of just unending brain-off busywork. Wildstar had the hardest mid-level normal dungeons of any MMO I can think of and that's a good thing. I imagine people were turned off by things like the attunement process though as that plus the progression part of the levelling grind are both framed as pre-requisites that people want to rush through instead of enjoy, and they were long. Devs taking the opinions of full time MMO forum posters who don't play videogames too seriously.
this looks awful.
Because you haven't played the game enough to parse what's happening, the amount of information the game puts right into the game world is unmatched by any other MMO. Without needing any kind of fricked up target of target of target UI bollocks that is unreadable during gameplay, Wildstar shows you who every enemy on the screen is attacking, which ability they're attacking with, who their healer is healing, who your healer is healing, and shows you instantly when they change targets. Individual class abilities all have unique telegraphs, so you can identify the class and the ability being used from every person on the screen just by looking at the floor.
Where large team PvP in most MMOs is an unplayable trash pile, Wildstar's group PvP allows you to respond to what's going on in ways that you can't do in any other game.
it's awful for reasons you're not understanding and you're looking at it with rose tinted goggles. that's visual puke with awful camera shake. to be fair I can't tell if that shake is the player or the game though.
>It's awful because I don't like the colours
Thanks for your painting and decorating advice, homosexual
idiot. nothing to do with the color scheme. like the other guy said earlier, dance floor, that might get it through your thick skull.
So you have absolutely nothing to say about the gameplay or how being able to see everything that is going on has a real impact on team PvP? Frick off then.
you don't get it, you're too stupid. that's why your game is dead and you think it was good.
could have just made the effects match up with what is actually happening - but yeah, I guess playing a realtime spreadsheet with predictive graphs could be fun...
>Wildstar died for the same reason that WoW went in decline, hyper focus on hardcore raiding content.
This isn't true. While it certainly didn't help the game, hardcore raiding wasn't the reason why the game died. It died because it had server and optimization issues that were so bad that most people couldn't play the game. Most people couldn't even log in and play while those that could were met with a laggy, buggy mess that affected every part of the game. Carbine spent most of their money post-launch on fixing these issues and by the time they were "fixed" (Wildstar had performance issues until it shut down), the majority of the playerbase had given up and Carbine had no money left. This is why the game barely got any updates after launch.
>Wildstar P server
Huh, what state is in and what's the pop like? Got a link?
One of the best memories I had of this game was PvP rivalries while leveling at launch. Meeting THAT guy in a questing zone full of stage hazards like insta kill acid or tornadoes that threw you up in the sky made for some wild shit. Unfortunately most players didn't get the experience what I did since they were too afraid of getting ganked to pick fights with the opposing faction.
>Now literally every MMO has stolen its telegraphed-floor-AoE gimmick
Any good single player boss rush games with this? Only TrinityS fills this void. And no, I already deleted my FFXIV account.
lost ark, monster hunter, dauntless.
might have what you're looking for.
>lost ark
I hear it's a shitty p2w game that also expects you to grind hard
but I couldn't even be bothered to finish the leveling process
>monster hunter, dauntless
very different
Still kinda bummed, miss my lil chua medic
Wildstar really needed more time to polish the progression system. It wanted to be burning crusade, but didn't have the vanilla to get people hooked. Still had great cosmetics and player housing though
I'll never forget how many "pro gamers" this game embarrassed with it's challenge and telegraph system
wildstar died because of balance issues.
early pvp was a mess because it took you 5 minutes to kill someone. in higher levels it was fine but the first impressions turned a lot of people off. endgame pvp suffered from the floor is lava, telegraphs everywhere.
>The overly ambitous premium subscription MMO which launched in the middle of the F2P era with a brand new IP and focused heavily on a strict game mode that only appealed to 0.1% of the MMO playerbase failed because damage in low level PvP wasn't high enough
Are you competing for worst possible take?
are they ever going to bring it back
I know theres a server emulator but progress is so fricking slow. Dont expect it the coming 10 years.
tibia, tera, club marian
im playing guild wars 2 but im findin it hard to socialise since its hard to join guilds, i thought it open like all games but you have to get recruited instead which is hard as a newbie.
also frick grindan to max level i wish mmos would be fun from the beginning like all games
>also frick grindan to max level i wish mmos would be fun from the beginning like all games
yep. leveling is archaic design. all other games you bring friends into you can play with them immediately. in mmos you tell them they need to spend hundreds of hours solo questing to catch up to you.
Leveling is not archaic design. The problem with MMOs is that they are entirely geared towards end-game content.
/tosg/ used to be the fastest moving thread on /vg/, perhaps on the entire website. We also made tons of OC and edits.
At this point though, the general is meaningless. They just post the same shit again and again just so it won't die, it's purely attachment without any real discussion. I think there's only a handful of people left still playing.
FWEEEEE to you too, old friend.
>wugufwee
Ahhhh I wanna go back
>The problem with MMOs is that they are entirely geared towards end-game content.
players want this or these games would not be successful. it's not a problem.
>Leveling is not archaic design. The problem with MMOs is that they are entirely geared towards end-game content
this. One of the biggest mistakes in mmo design is the WoW expansion model where endgame players are funnelled into a new landmass and new level cap every two years. It fractures the player base, devalues old content, and makes the game unapproachable for new players. It's not bad to level when it still feels relevant and you can see higher level players in the world with you that present an attainable goal. It's not so fun when everybody's sitting afk in Outland and you have 80 levels to catch up. Expansions should have followed a horizontal approach to content.
BUT MUH TIME INVESTMENT THAT MEANS I NEED TO BE BETTER THAN OTHER PLAYERS WHO DIDN'T OTHERWISE I WASTED ALL THAT TIME PLAYING THE GAME
MMO morons actually believe that by the way, it was a major argument against level scaling in New World pvp. They're fricking stupid.
yep. all that stuff is to begin your feeling of sunk cost.
open world pvp should be unbalanced though.
PvP scaling in NW was great. I didn't have to be scared of 60s and they couldn't just roll over me.
How does pvp scaling work in New World anyways?
There is none now, but at launch it made it so high level players did less damage and took more damage so that lower level players weren't completely outclassed.
So it's a meme?
I'm not sure what you mean
They made getting 60 (max level) incredibly easy in the latest patch. You can go from fresh start to max level in about 10 hours now. Kinda makes all the sub 60 zones a bit pointless (other than for material). Once at 60 it's all a gear score grind, which is much easier than it was before.
new world needed a map overhaul and a level cap of like 25.
they put all the starter zones in the center with just one that branches to higher zones and then wondered why players made that the "trade hub"
i stopped giving a shit when they made the auction houses connected, ruined my israelitefarm
also duped gold thanks to DCing while trading bug lmao never banned
NW could work well with levels being removed completely except for weapon levels, and have all stats on gear
Tibia is still alive but I"m not sure this is a good thing
whats the rundown on the game?
i played it at a surface level like 20 years ago, never got too far in though
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tibia_(video_game)#History_and_development
You are fricked if you want to start anew
Most of the new content is limited to expanding the game for the highest levels, so unless you have a level 100+ character, and are going to pay the monthly $7 premium tax, forget about it
Hell, if your char is in a PvP server, forget about it too since the biggest guilds hold control over all the lategame content
If you get the Tibia itch, the unofficial servers are quite alright, however, but they are pretty lacking as MMOs (not like Tibia itself is much better)
>Scaling fricking sucks
>Class balance is meh
>Can't hunt properly without imbuements, which are very expensive to have, they last for 20 hours
>Grind so you can grind with bigger numbers on other spots, like always
>Really small community at this point
>It now has sound, pretty mediocre and very lackluster
>Promised a new shitty mechanic for next winter update, a skill wheel that will apparently add new shit to the game, nobody is expecting anything cool or balanced whatsoever
I have a Lv 151 RP, came back to the game with a friend who plays EK just to check out the game, the game got ruined by people who refuse to let CipSoft actually try to make different because "muh retro experience".
tbf, what you do while leveling in gw2 is maxing out stuff for a legendary, it's not a waste of time.
If you want to play gw2 anon, post your name or discord, I can show you the ways, I fricking love GW2
FFXI, FFXIV, Zion, Rift, Wild Star
>XIV
>dead
what the frick are you smoking
He probably meant 1.0 but you seem a bit too moronic to use critical thinking skills
Rift. I forgot I ever even played that game until now. Went off MMO's after playing this after realizing they're mostly all the same
Rift was weird because the game was pretty much perfect going into the first expansion and then the expansion fed it into a woodchipper.
City of Heroes but it came back
Guild Wars 1
Thunderspy, Rebirth, Cake, Homecoming, or none? Because they're all perfectly respectable choices
>Thunderspy, Rebirth, Cake
All run by femboys, troons and mentally sick people
>Homecoming
Run by israelites that want to capitalize on making the IP their own and keeping their paypiggies on a leash by saying "we're in talks with NCSoft"
It's not fricking fair, bros.
u can run and host your own server
The code is so fricking spaghetti that it's a miracle to fix anything.
Arent there a step by step for this?
Homecoming has the most people, simple as
and if you're a degenerate and get really lucky you can hop on the RP realm and frick some MILF superheroines
it is morally wrong to play on Homecoming
I don't care
No, barely any, that's why I say you have to get lucky
The state of the RP server is bad in general right now, very few people want to engage with the silver and bronze age stylings that is overwhelmingly the theme in City of heroes. instead everybody just plays preposterous snowflakes with convoluted backstories and overly complex powers that the in-game abilities don't really represent very well.
>everybody just plays preposterous snowflakes with convoluted backstories and overly complex powers that the in-game abilities don't really represent very well.
in other words, it's an RP server.
there was a time it was different but you're probably correct in that this is an inevitable life cycle for RP MMO servers
Are there a lot of MILFs to frick in that game?
>Thundertrannies shilling their /misc/ server again. Weren't you booted off of /vm/ for your shit?
Tspy is best girl
Guild Wars 1 is still fun as hell. At least as a solo player. It's one of the few games that I've been really getting into lately.
>Guild Wars 1
Still playing
>Guild Wars 1
It's a shame that GW1 has been overrun by bots. Ectoplasm inflation is at an all time high. I think an armbrace of truth goes for 100 ectos now, shit's crazy.
Elins
Does puzzle pirates count kek. Thats the only dead-dead one i can remember
Holy i used to play that shit when i was younger 24/7 lel
I don't think I ever played an MMO up until its death, I always dropped off well before they shut the lights off.
good on you anon, better that than these chumps with regret & sunk cost fallacy.
Tree of Savior should be dead, but whales continue pumping small fortunes into the cash shop.
I don't even understand the /vg/ general for it anymore, it's as incomprehensible as the Starcraft 2 general used to be.
archeage
Going around roleplaying a Black person stealing crops was fun
one day the homosexual making the CLASSIC pserver will work on it instead of just circlejerking his discord.
no idea how HARD id get for a classic server again.
soon anon
Fricking based, I came here to post this too
AAU wasn't too bad for the first few months until the shitty Hiram grind starting to get tiring every single day and the battle pass shit was stupid too, along with the gold exploit on it on day one (to be fair they banned people on the leaderboards that clearly used it anyway)
RIP /aag/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Jxi2wPP5mg
I remember this shit was getting shilled hard as the next big thing then there was some controversy right after it launched and I think that was the last I heard about it what happened?
generic eastern shovelware
A few reasons why it failed.
First was of course the P2W. The game was pretty obscene with the P2W, and in a game where PvP is a large factor, that's obviously fricking shit.
Next was the labour system. This was basically an energy/stamina system that prevented you from doing a ton of the activities in the game once you ran out of labour. However, you could get more labour by swiping your credit card in the cash shop.
Then there was the fact that people instantly found exploits and hacks for the game. In Korea they have to sign up for games with their Korean Social Security Number, this means cheating is much less common because if you get banned then the only one to get another account is to use someone else's account which has their KSSN tied to it which is illegal to do. This means hacks/cheats aren't as common in Korea so they put 0 effort into their anti-cheat program. We in the West on the other hand could create 100000 accounts if we wanted. This means cheats and hacks and exploits were everywhere here when the game released.
Finally the developers and publishers were just straight up incompetent. XLGames pushed out bad update after bad update after patch 2.8 ish and Trion Worlds was just a straight up abysmal publisher.
None of those reasons are why it failed. You can have all that and if your players aren't obnoxious shitheads the game can still be good.
Lemme guess, you cry about any game with open-world PvP?
There's no point in an MMO without mandatory open-world PvP. Takes any sense of risk or tension out of the open-world otherwise. Zero fun in just fighting AI mobs.
Prime example of who I'm talking about.
That's what you class as "obnoxious shitheads"? Are you a FF14 player? Because you seem soft as hell.
So why aren't you still playing Archeage if it's so great? Too poor to keep up with the big boys?
Oh no, I currently whale on a gacha game so it's not a case of money. It just fell off after a certain patch and the developers have continued to go downhill with it. I'm waiting on Ashes of Creation right now since it's basically a Linage2/ArcheAge successor.
So your poor gotcha. Or you wouldn't be inventing nebulous reasons. What color was your dragon lmfao?
This shit was never good, it was a glorified farmville mobile game but it was the first so it fooled you gays.
Worst playerbase out of any MMO I've played in the past 20 years.
SWG
The Secret World
Wildstar
I will goddamn die on the hill that if Secret World had been released as a single-player RPG it would've made money hand over fist. It came right in time for that big 'counter-culture' hit, it riffed off the pop culture wave without being LE QUIPPY, the background/lore was insanely well-written and complex with tons of stuff hidden for people who wanted to deep dive. Novel quests that encouraged lateral thinking (everyone talks about the simple Morse ones, but there were a ton of fantastic in-game investigations). Hitting all the genre high points while being actually respectful of the culture and mythology they were taking from. I was honestly shocked at how well they did the Native American stuff - they managed to balance 'noble earth warrior' with the modern reality without actually pointing any fingers. The game is critical of tons of people and positions without ever getting mean-spirited.
Frick I wish Secret World had been a success.
I don't disagree.
It had the potential to be incredible if only it had been anything but an MMO. I want something in the same universe that plays like VTMB or Deus Ex.
it fricking hurts. Hell, even just a 'MORPG' where the hub cities are server side and the actual content areas are instanced/player side like GW classic would have been godly.
Though, I did find it funny how even though the game stresses you're just one of many (repeatedly) expendable assets for your faction and there's plenty of other bees out there, even at its peak I still remember just how lonely and eerie Solomon Island felt.
Is the game still alive and active or is it basically just on life support at this point?
https://store.steampowered.com/app/215280/Secret_World_Legends/
It exists as this now.
It exists as Secret World Legends now. They overhauled the game systems - gear, progression, etc - and stitched the DLC into the main game (sometimes successfully, sometimes not). There's stuff missing and it doesn't have the same exact feel, but the bones of the game are still there (the story, lore, etc) and it's much easier to play as a purely single-player experience since it lost the traditional RPG elements like strict levels and areas.
Doing that really robbed the SOVL of areas, though. There used to be two types of 'Nightmare' zones in the playfields, one with particularly strong enemies that required either a group or a strong solo build to take on, and open 'dungeons' which needed a party. I still don't quite understand why they changed that. It made certain sections of the map either very dangerous (with good rewards) or flat-out impossible without a group (also good rewards), and those sections had their own 'lore', monsters, collections, etc. These areas also had their own quests and those quests tended to have big payoffs in terms of story and gear.
It's not all bad. You can 'clear' zones now as you go, and it's fun to put stuff together if you're paying attention, and all the 'Issues' were added to Legends as base content which - being formerly paid DLC - are pretty solid.
I'd recommend SWL if you don't mind a bit of jank and want some good urban fantasy storytelling and don't mind putting some breadcrumbs together.
Toontown and Pirates of the Caribbean as a kid.
Definitely not the best games, but absolutely fricked over so hard.
WoW isn't dead, but its soul is.
I recommend you check out ToonTown Corporate Clash, its a private server that pretty much remakes ToonTown from the ground up combatwise and has way too many addtions and improvments to list here, but keeps the same world expanded and the core turn based team combat
CITY
OF
HEROES
new world is popping off.
fresh servers tomorrow.
New World hasn't popped shit since the beta when they removed hitstun and completely ruined the game forever
stagger on every hit was fricking moronic and just made fast weapons like hatchet infinitely better
>muh Hatchet
Hatchet was one of the worst weapons in that preview and you just didn't understand how to play the game. Multi-million dollar project ruined because a bunch of loud morons couldn't allow one week to learn a new system before crying about it.
footsies are great - but the range you have there seems obscenely far for the weapon
Which is bonkers, because you could have easily won that match up with about 1/4-1/2 the range given your opponent wasn't doing anything to address the effective disadvantage it was operating from.
>but the range you have there seems obscenely far
In Souls, player hurtboxes extend on attack animations like they would in a fighting game. The hurtbox doesn't cover the weapon of course, but when characters lean forwards for a stab their outstretched hands are hittable from a distance where you would never hit them in a neutral pose.
NW beta combat started as a Souls clone with most of the mechanics intact. Thanks to people crying about a combat system they didn't understand it now looks more like some cross between a 3rd person shooter with excess healing and a tab target WoW clone.
This looks fricking awful. One hit and he's stunlocked for like 99% of his hp.
Sword combo damage was too high in beta, but it's a good thing that getting hit actually meant something and players aren't just running into each other trying to trade damage and see who has the better gear. You couldn't mindlessly trade damage in this game, because whoever hits first will interrupt the other player. That means you have to think about how you're going to hit people without being hit and so the initial game of timing and spacing happens. When you take away the hitstun from regular attacks all you get is people diving into each other and pressing all of their stuff.
I don't know why you wrote all that. Did I imply any stunlocking at all is a bad thing? I pointed out how absolutely ridiculous it is that he was stunlocked for 99% of his life. Does your brain only process 1s and 0s?
If you have to pay streamers to play it.. its not popping off lil bro...
their ccu had been growing steadily, and streamers haven't been paid to play it yet.
New World fresh start is a massive cope. It took a new server almost 3 weeks to get 1 town fully upgraded, with a jump started economy. fresh start servers will have a even harder time with the way pay outs are distributed for owning land now. Also every invasion will fail most likely since most players won’t be geared to take it down. You have people acting like a FSS is immune to the problems that affected Day 1 servers. Bots still exists, cheaters, exploiters, etc. You better pray there’s no new dupe mishap to shut down the econ again during the first month or so while it tries to regain its footing. There will still be bugs, pvp will still be unbalanced to hell, resources are about the same, gathering the same, crafting is still eh and levels 1-25 are revamped leaving 26 - 60 to be roughly the same. Basically now it rushes the good and comfy parts of the early game so that you can hit the garbage that is midgame and the non-existent endgame faster.
nice summary, will be staying away from it.
Yeah, I've been playing the past year and the hysteria for fresh start is mainly just newbies who quit early and don't want to catch up. Fundamentally the game is literally the same as it was at launch, but without bugs. AKA it's fricking shit if you have any self-respect, I'm only playing this shit until Dragonflight.
>any self-respect
>I'm only playing this shit until Dragonflight
I really don't get why they revamped early game, that was literally the only good part. First couple weeks of new world were actually fun, for me it all fell apart once I got to weavers fen. The exploring the Windsward, Everyfall, Brightwood areas for the first time was amazing.
It's because Amazon is fricking stupid. I guess they want people to be more engaged for the first 2 weeks/2 hours so that the Steam refund period expires.
Yes I'm well aware, that's why I was playing New World the past year.
>I guess they want people to be more engaged for the first 2 weeks/2 hours so that the Steam refund period expires.
The queues will do that for them. 2k population cap for a server lmao
>new world is popping off.
>fresh servers tomorrow.
Whales in my Archeage Discord are already talking about spending tens of thousands of $ to pwn people in PvP lmfao.
this isn't a forced pvp game, but ok, have fun with your groomers.
freshstart really died quick huh
God I miss stagger so much.
So what the frick is the point of PvP now?
I was considering playing again but this seems fricking moronic.
90% of MMO players hate skill ceilings. They just want gear progression and that's literally it. If someone with shitty gear can outskill a whale with stuff like stagger that isn't RNG or stat reliant then you've just lost a whale, PvE included which is why people hated OG TERA because gear barely mattered for your survival and damage output for both PvE and PvP
By your logic 90% of the players are whales.
Of the players left when the game dies? Yes, 90% are whales.
Yes.
>If someone with shitty gear can outskill a whale with stuff like stagger that isn't RNG or stat reliant then you've just lost a whale
I believe that a fundamental part of having a good MMO is establishing a business model that lets the game survive without whales. Because the current model for modern MMOs is entirely geared towards whales, and so the games suffer because design follows the business model.
They also had the sexiest outfits.
Swordsman classes in ToS had two base problems.
The first one was that weapon limitations put restrictions on your options for picking jobs. If you went something like Fencer, very few offensive skills from previous circles worked with the fencer specific weapon type. It was even worse with spears, which basically always forced you towards picking Hoplite.
The second issue were the AoE sizes. Every other job had AoE spells that filled half of the screen or that would auto-seek targets, while Swordsmen had AoEs the size of a character which they deployed right in front of themselves. In PvE it was fine but it was almost impossible to hit moving targets in PvP because of desyncs.
I think Dievdirbys are simply part of Lithuanian Myth, which was the entire aesthetic behind Tree of Savior. At the very least the statues they carve are entirely rooted on that.
If I remember right, the icon for Dievdibys are a religious symbol from that religion.
Maybe. Grabbing players with Telekinesis and slamming them on the floor before throwing them up in the air was more effective though.
>So what the frick is the point of PvP now?
There is no point, the PvP is now shit. Game was ruined before launch in 10 different ways because whoever took over from the original vision had absolutely no clue what they were doing or why anything worked the way it did and they fricked it all. That's why it's in the graveyard thread, because it's dead.
Black person, the original vision of this shitty game was a single player valheim clone, this shit barely classifies as a "game"
>the original vision of this shitty game was a single player valheim clone
Speaking of which, what ever happened to Everquest Next?
arenas, battleground, guild wars for territory.
Being dead is not the worst fate for an MMO.
Watching the lifeless corpse of a game you loved still walking around as if it had any sort of meaning, now that's pain.
>t. a man that liked Tree of Savior
FWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
will never forvgive them for what they did to the game and bokor in general
I miss my zombie train :l
I miss glitching the map until I had 30+ zombies
tree of savior is a husk :l
I played this game for over 2500 hours and I never made a Cleric, so I never got to try out Bokor.
Every patch was a downgrade for the game, every time. But I do remember when they messed with the Pet AI and made it so that Hunter's pets would no longer auto cast skills.
People kept saying Hunters were worthless because the pets were uncontrollable but they just didn't spend any time on it. I got a Circle 3 Hunter all the way to max level on iCBT2 without pressing any skills or drinking SP potions. I just "designated targets" with my auto attack and let the pet do everything. It was perfectly controllable if you understood how it worked.
I guess it's similar to how people didn't like The Last Guardian because Trico doesn't obey, but in reality people didn't understand how its AI worked.
Me too, it's hard to believe it's been like 7 years already. I know private servers are being worked on but it will be years before it's playable, IF they ever finish.
They don't know any better, it's all they know because WoW ruined everything forever.
>it's hard to believe it's been like 7 years already.
Shit dude I felt like it's only been out for a few. Hard to believe they managed to frick it all up.
I'm happy I played while it was already dead, I feel like I would lost my life grinding on that shit if
I started playing on beta.
No, you played it when it was most alive.
The best moment for playing Tree of Savior was between iCBT2 and Steam Early Access. Bonus point if you were on the Korean Open Beta too, but you had to buy a korean nexon account to get into that.
I mean, they were already accumulating tons of bad decisions before release but once it was out of EA is when they started hitting us with the really shitty Korean stuff, like:
>removing the cash shop and putting all the stuff that was on it on gacha boxes, and selling those instead
>Earth Tower and the ever inflating list of dailies you had to do, on every character
>transcending equipment, which is basically a mechanic that only existed so whales had something to put their money into
What hurts the most is when they realize the problem in the design and they start selling boosts and giving you tons of exp bonuses, so that a new character can immediately skip to the endgame threadmill. Basically they get to max level without seeing 90% of the game by doing this.
There was nothing wrong with trans since it couldn’t fail or anything. Biggest problem with ToS was enemy design was really lacking for how diverse the player classes were and class elitism+general community laziness as far as end game content. The daily shit and my guild dying is ultimately what made me quit though, they removed my way to make money and I had zero interest in dailies.
Daily chores are an enemy of good game design, specially in ToS' case where it could take up to 6+ hours to do everything on multiple characters.
All of this shit existed because they needed content padding, because they buckled to player pressure to make leveling easier.
But now that everyone was at the cap and had nothing to do, they were forced to put all this boring shit that isn't fun to do.
I do agree that more time spent = make you stronger, including and specially in PvP environment.
The problem with this is that they let the weight of stats and equipment spiral out of control, because new patchers are all about getting better equipment that completely replaces old equipment.
So you end up with Max Level, Max Gear characters that are so strong that even 10+ low levels cannot kill. Literally Sword Art Online tier shit where Kirito regenerated faster than others could hurt him.
The proper way of doing things is making it so that higher level/equipment characters can definitely beat lower level/equipped characters but will still lose when massively outnumbered.
There's also the problem where it's difficult to make MMOs into skill-based games for a number of reasons, so "being good" at the game has a very low ceiling.
ToS is the last “fricked up game mechanics in a MMORPG” game I played, I want another game like it that runs better because I had a ton of fun.
>Changing mobs into other mobs randomly with the chance to get a shitload of money
There was a shitload of weird shit that ToS did that no other game could possibly conceive.
>using Reversi on enemy spells to take control of them
>making your party's limbs larger so they do more damage
>setting up elaborate traps with Sapper that used the map's walls to create infinite damage chains
>the entire Chronomancer class, specially being literally able to roll back the game
>using Fweeelconers for supporting the party, supercharging AoE skills
>going full mental on enemies by setting them on fire with Plague Doctors
>Cataphracts impalling enemies and players and running off with them
>Corsairs buffing party members with pirate flags and binding enemies with grappling hooks
They don't make 'em that good anymore.
>killing monsters, gathering their corpses and then using it as ammunition for Necromancer's corpse cannon, you could literally see the body parts of stuff you killed being shot out
>the entire concept behind Oracle class, which let you see enemy attacks before they even started moving
>making zombie trains and just walking around the map and letting them do stuff
>healing being based on ground tiles
>ranged attacks auto-targetting based on line of sight, felt really good to use
>skill attribute system, where you could dump loads of money for skill damage
>an entire branch of classes based on using shields
>musketeer and cannoneer classes
>wacky commerce jobs like Squire
That this game flopped and has been on life support for most of its lifestime is a tragedy.
>an entire branch of classes based on using shields
More games need todo this
the mere fact there was a class about carving/whittling shit on the spot is also fricking fantastic, I was a Dievdirbys first and foremost because of this
I wonder if they got the idea at least a little from the manhwa Legend of the Moonlight Sculptor, as that guy's whole schtick is literally learning how to make uber carvings that grant impossible buffs and give hm moronic sword techniques because of course
still
>Cataphracts impalling enemies and players and running off with them
Being able to pick up enemy players and run them into a loading screen was the funniest fricking element of guild wars
Visually the game looks amazing.
Might not live much longer. The mobile version of Tree of Savior is already having open betas and it will have a PC client. The entire game might be thrown out in favor of Mobile ToS.
>The mobile version of Tree of Savior is already having open betas and it will have a PC client.
Well, I'm not against it if it's a direct upgrade.
Though I'm sure they'll run it into the ground a second time. ToS during the ICBT was incredibly fun and I wouldn't mind giving a reboot of it a try.
>if it's a direct upgrade
It's not. It's just mobage with ToS skin.
I believe it.
ToS was never good
its rotting corpse gets raped every new patch by adding always more powerful p2w shit, it's really sad.
The devs flipflopped so fricking hard on this game it never stood a chance. The constant and extreme changes fricked it over in the end, it couldn't last a year in any single state.
This is part of the flaw, it wanted to be an old style MMO where grinding your levels was part of the charm, then fricked itself over by not even being able to know if your build would work until you hit max level.
They really need to balance leveling and classes better, class level needed to level up 3/4 times as fast as character level but it ended up feeling slower and that's what hurt it's original design most. The hyper leveling pace it has now that skips 90% of the game isn't fun at all.
Then there was that period where you powerlevel through almost effortless to kill enemies till 300 then the game's difficulty takes a sharp spike and if you don't have a good build NOW you find out and struggle to kill anything in a reasonable timeframe.
6 months into the game was one of my favorite periods, leveling wasn't as hell as launch but the main EXP was from doing dungeons, yet before dungeons all got relocated to sit in the main town. It was comfy going to the dungeons, waiting at the entrance and chatting/waiting for people to join. Moving it all into the main town killed that small bit of socializing. I didn't like the quests = main exp source it felt shitty and it's why I don't like most modern MMOs.
>TaltOC
Good times. Also you're right about everything, specially dungeon queues. Automatization is poison that kills MMOs without the players realizing it.
>Then there was that period where you powerlevel through almost effortless to kill enemies till 300 then the game's difficulty takes a sharp spike and if you don't have a good build NOW you find out and struggle to kill anything in a reasonable timeframe.
Or even survive really.
>Watching the lifeless corpse of a game you loved still walking around as if it had any sort of meaning, now that's pain.
That nothing compare to what happen to Guild Wars.
tbh i don't really care much about it there, since you can basically ignore the story and play the game fully without touching much of it
Doesn't matter. Being dead is better than what GW 2 is now.
GW2 is awesome at the moment, lots of content, most of it in the over world, team comps are great, builds are fun, no FOMO or monthly fee
I really don't see the problem
The game is in a fricking drought right now and all the content doesn't give jack shit to be worth playing. Unless you're a fractal homosexual, everything is shit. Getting a bag within a bag within bag that give you shit isn't good rewarding.
It's been getting a ton of balance changes and LS1 is being added back in, it might not be the most exciting shit for legacy players but most players are from the last few years and never got to play it.
LS6 is next year anyways and they confirmed a new expansion. I will say EoD has some awesome meta events and great maps but really not as much to do in them as there should be, but the legendaries are great and CM strikes are a welcome addition
Those balance change shit on base profession spec, so you can't even meme about playing Fractal with base spec anymore. LS1 is literal shit when it comes to everyone favorite mary sue.
The meta is meh and so are the maps. Even with account bound "buff", legendary is still shit when you can just use ascended/exotic.
GW2 in the long term is a legendary farm to look pretty, and learning your class' ins and outs to do better in pve and pvp.
Base spec hasn't been relevant since HoT dude, that was 8 years ago, you gotta move on.
Most of legendaries looks like shit. The armor is one of the most moronic movable armor I seen. I wouldn't be caught dead wearing that aesthetic
Doesn't matter. They kill it and it piss of a lot of people, including me. It doesn't help that the devs were shitting on the spec and everyone caught that little chat.
The same guy got booted off the team and a new leader of the balance team was put in
You guys are crazy with trying to hate the game as much as possible
As with many shitty dev they hired and fire the past decade. All helping to make GW 2 look less desirable per day. There way too many shit wrong with GW 2 and its a crime to even suggest it as an advice.
I don't think anything you say has held any weight other than you're mad it's not like launch, but launch was shit anon and you gotta accept it
>they confirmed a new expansion
Really doubt it.
Proving you don't know what you're talking about, they did already, earlier this year.
>it's another "things nobody would see or care about without bringing it to their attention" image
none of this shit impacted the fun i had in gw2 and neither did any of the gays from gw crying about how they ruined the game.
None of this shit really ruined GW2, it's the lack of proper content, the cosmetic cash shop rape, the 2 decade old engine and the fact that femcharr do not get government mandated humans boytoys that the game is the way it is today.
ToS classic when?
There's a Thai private server using leaked data. It's not in English.
Other than that, wait for private server tools to be improved.
I've been looking for a YouTube vid that got me into TOS, anyone knows this one? It's a video about a party setting up camp on a flowery field. They have a squire that set up a tent with food on the table. And they were just farming comfily.
Is Rappelz still alive?
I liked the pet system in it.

There was a time when a new mmo launched every few months
Vanilla and Storm Legion RIFT were superb; easily the best tab-target MMO that existed.
Rift really naild the mmo atmosphere even if it was all scripted events
FlyFFchads ww@
quit when i class changed started playing dragonnext/vindictus/PWI instead
tricked like 25 people into all playing pwi for like 2 months was so fun and chill
Surprisingly this mmo isn’t dead.
I dunno if it’s worth playing.
For some unknown reason I sank tons of hours into this game. It just felt like a real MMO and I didn't look moronic like in WoW nor did I look like an anime character. Story and leveling is somehow really good, and all the classes and races are fun
i kinda wanna play this as a single player experience with online elements. either this or the first Guild Wars.

I never see anyone talking about it but when i was in middle school in 2007 it was fun as frick to play with my friends
whenever i hear this song it takes me back to better times.
I played that too, it was really fricking cool and impressive for its time. I hated how you had to use skills hundreds of times to upgrade them though.
I remember reading about how it took 10+ years for the first player to ever reach Hard Cap Max Level.
Phantasy star universe.
I played Maplestory 2 for a while.
I still play SWTOR for frick's sake, love the story mode. Also I'm a RPgay.
The game I really miss, though, is FFXI. So much better than FFXIV in every way that I could never get into the newer one.
Swtor's doing fine though.
There is one with great character customization, but that's about it nowadays. The new "stories" are horrid in terms of writing, the "devs" have frickall idea what they're doing and the community is quite a collection of brain damage variety.
Glad I got banned lol
But which story mode? Depending on the writer, some of the class's story modes were really well written, and others dog shit.
The Consular's story makes me consider alcoholism just to rush through it. But the first companion has that Khem Val effect where he's the best of the lot and weirdly adorable for a murder machine.
Now I'm sad
You just had to mention that one didn't you?
Did that game ever release? I remember playing the beta a million years ago and never heard about it again.
Are you playing in a private server, at least?
I wish there was a private server of the game from before they fricked it all up.
WoW
I usually leave a game well before it dies. Can't think of any besides the matrix online that I played during it's shutdown phase.
Wildstar, maybe? I stopped after the announcement though, so that was months.
Tabula Rasa
I played this.
The one thing I remember was the absolutely TERRIBLE pushup emote.
I regret not playing more Spiral Knights, but everyone I knew had quit before the energy system was fixed
>tfw you will never login and go chill at Mos Eisley Cantina, dueling people while shooting the shit with entertainers and various players passing by until you form a group of people to go do instances, world PvP or space combat in some richgay's gunboat
It may have been one of the jankiest MMOs I've played, but the sandbox gameplay and player-driven economy really made it special
>It may have been one of the jankiest MMOs I've played, but the sandbox gameplay and player-driven economy really made it special
Let's face it, it was the playerbase too. It had minimal levels of PvP ganker kiddies and also minimal levels of PvP ganker crypto millionaires. And no Twitch streamers with their armies either. Can't have that shit anymore.
I don't regret playing. It's sad to see its current state though.
I played the frick out of this during Storm Legion.
The fact you could respec anywhere, mix classes. It was legit good.
It went hard in the pay2win mode shortly after. A frantic asset reuse to milk money from...god knows who. Very sad.
I think the servers are still up but I seriously doubt there are very many left still playing
it's literally maintained by a single guy now. Service equals nil and the dude doesn't give a frick about anything. Good memories though, too bad my last experience fricked up these memories. Don't recommend touching it again unless you are aware you could lose everything without support helping at all randomly
>failcom

Trickster online [s] Thai server [/s]
Sure it’s still p2w but less so than playtrickster israelites
lurk moar, newbie
Korean MMOs are the only ones with actual good gameplay and mechanics but they kill themselves everytime with P2W and utter class imbalance to coax whales into FotMing
p2w doesn't kill games.
ye it does, there's no P2W MMO alive right now, only fair sub-based MMOs survive, and have survived
wow is p2w.
lost ark is alive and well.
genshin is alive and well.
new world is the least p2w mmo on the market and was on the brink of death.
ffxiv died and was reborn with no p2w.
the list goes on.
You're semantically wrong on half of what you're saying. Why would you bring up Genshin in an MMO thread you fat fricking yellow goblin
>p2w kills games
but not these games?
>n-no those aren't games
I specifically mentioned MMOs, shut the frick up already because you're wrong on everything else you said as well.
>genshin
>p2w
Huh? What are you winning? Killing mobs 10 seconds faster than some other players?
>ffxiv died and was reborn with no p2w.
what?
ffxiv had no p2w and died.
and it's not p2w right now and is the most popular MMO
you're fricking dumb dude shut up
you have no proof of that and that's not what I'm arguing.
you're arguing nothing, you're wrong on everything you said
>mmo
thats generous. its more of a single player rpg with online co-op
oh
wait, wut.
i bet you think second life is an mmo too lel
Are you 12 years old? XIV is an MMO. What the frick?
No social interaction
>doesn't interact with anyone
>bitches when someone talks to him or immediately logs off because his social anxiety makes him have panic attacks
>goes on to make angry posts on Ganker about it, making fun of those "fricking erprs standing next to each other erping"
I know your kind too well.
Don't waste your time, this is the kind of person that thinks that if the MMO doesn't punish you for not playing with other then it isn't a social MMO.
Man I love being forced to interact with people to play and progress the video game. Especially when the game is designed in such a way that everyone acts like crybaby c**t whenever something doesn't go their way.
>mogshop bullshit
>on a game where weebs spend 100s of hours for a piece of level one gear just for its looks
You disingenuous Black person.
what?
Do you not know what p2w means?
so would you say p2w systems are either irrelevant or have minimal negative effects on the course of a game?
as in the existence of p2w changes nothing about the structure of development, considerations of costs, corporate greed up the ladder, pricing considerations, none of that?
or are you going to just say "well I meant "kill" as in being the one specific reason" because there's never just one specific reason either, it's always a amalgamation of terrible decisions
of which p2w is one of them and has a much bigger part in it than I believe you would like to admit
are you trying to use the angle of poor game design to inconvenience you into whaling?
it's just bad game design.
did you quote the wrong person because you sound like even more of a moron if you didn't
>get asked question
>immediately ask a question and make an implication back
perhaps you should explain your thoughts instead of half baked sentences that we can't follow.
>still dodging the question
considering the responses to your original post, everyone else already thinks you're moronic too
let me copypaste it for you:
>so would you say p2w systems are either irrelevant or have minimal negative effects on the course of a game?
answer, Black person
I already stated my position. p2w doesn't kill games. I've also provided evidence to this claim in my other post. sorry you don't live in reality and you think all these eastern shovelware mmos were incredible except for p2w.
>still dodging the question
not only are you a Black person, you're a b***h Black person
hahahahahahahahah
oh, so you're illiterate.
oh well.
sprinting like usain bolt, b***h Black person
the question has nothing to do specifically with "does p2w kill games yes/no"
just what your idea on what negative effects p2w has on the game if any at all, which you refuse to answer because you're all basing it on your singular statement and refusing to elaborate past what you consider an absolute
it's a cute game of words that could only come from a copist
now quick, get your last word in even though you've convinced absolutely no one that p2w has no effect on the 'life' of a game!
p2w is a negative for some and a positive for others.
>still didn't answer the question
lol
lmao
like I said.
dumb Black person, what
You are right that P2W doesn't kill games. What kill games is terrible game desing and bad content that P2W can create.
>wow is p2w.
Is on decline because of bad content cadance and annoying game desing.
>lost ark is alive and well.
Lost more than half of it's playerbase and is stuck bellow 200k players, because of bots and the terrible game desing of either farming dailies on multiple alts to get material so you can gamble for proguession or P2W your way up.
>new world
This game had so many issues on it that P2W any form of P2W would have buried it.
>ffxiv died and was reborn with no p2w.
1.0 was the new wolrd of its time, but with way less players and no spotlight on it's failure.
>Korean MMOs are the only ones with actual good gameplay
lamo
>the beautiful lush scenery in the early maps leading up to the first encounter with Gesti
Post more bangers.
The giant fruit forests and the owl statue woods were my jam.
I think that the entire section between Klaipeda and Fedimian is the best early game for an MMO I ever experienced. The other starting city wasn't nearly as good.
And it's not like the game after that was bad or anything. It just wasn't a chain of 10/10 maps one after the other anymore.
The Orsha path was great too.
I loved the ruined castle at the end in particular.

I was super hyped for the relaunch of Archeage. I put in like 7000 hours in a less than a year. It was a westernized rerelease where you could only buy cosmetics and the publisher swore not to add pay2win. Guess what the publisher did...
Wildstar, although as it was what I wanted it also kinda reminded me of nightmares I had as a child
loved the moon though, you could do sick hoverboard ramps
pity it had mortal wounds before it ever even hit closed beta, it was a dead MMO walking
I think one of the most vicious hits was the PvP netcode shitting the bed after the closed beta - all the matches I had in beta were sexy smooth even on my shitty internet and were -impossible- once the service went live, instantly kicking all the players who were told they could level through PvP in the balls(I actually thought that aspect was pretty fricking novel, but also meant you leveled too fast sometimes if you switched between it and PvE)

Hey that was pretty good in beta, shame absolutely nobody cared
People did care, it was just that halfway through beta Mojang had finance issues and staff problems and had to turn to Microsoft, who gave them the good ole Windows Upgrade forced shackles they were doing at the time to force companies and users to upgrade
I actually had to fricking stop playing
then someone on Ganker one day said "hey there's a little group of us on telegram that do games and shit" and I played with them until my personal life and being a shitty person sent me away
they were good people
Ubasti you're Thebesti
Wasn't this a pseudo-moba FPS thing? Not an MMO?
Yea I don't know why he posted that but it's the first time I've seen anybody mention it outside of the early beta which I couldn't convince anybody to play. It got no attention at all but it was pretty good.
I remember seeing a trailer for it and thinking the aesthetic was nice, and then I never heard of it again.

Talking about dead games. Is Lost Ark dead? Last time i played it was when there was a huge bot problem and end game raids were literally pay to win
if its not dead then anyone still playing is completely mazed
it's alive and well.
but it will be killed by d4.
content patches don't bring players back and once you fall behind there's no way to recover without spending lots of money or grinding daily for months.
the game lost more than half of it's playerbase and is now stuck bellow 200k players, with at least 50k being bots.
the game lost a lot of players because of AGS
incompetence, too many bots running around and terrible game design choices like a gameplay loop based around having multiples alts to do dailies so you can farm materials for your main in order to gamble for proguession. Either that or P2W, just like
said.
these are smilegate incompetencies, not ags.
Shit, there's people in Kaineng City. Haha
Idk about inevitably dead, but im enjoying new world currently
I really miss Planetside 1 and Star Wars Galaxies. The emulator for SWG is nice, but doesn't capture the magic of SWG during 03-05

Most asiatic MMO's. Majority of them start out really good, has a fantastic world and feels like they are light years ahead of Western MMO's in development. Then every single patch makes the game worse and worse, eventually comes the p2w addition and every new update just adds and changes stuff nobody asked for while ignore all the big faults and issues.

RO is lucky, it's still in development, there are several options for private servers and hundreds of thousands continue to play the game even today.
Gonna take advantage of this MMO thread to ask something.
I have a weird fricking memory of years ago when I saw my cousin play some MMO, right, but the one thing that heavily and I mean HEAVILY stuck out to me was how his character had two sets of three green orbs around her head, that and I think his character was also leading a donkey or horse or something?

imagine fricking up your game so hard you need to make fresh-start servers a year after launch
The game was a dupe fest for the first couple months, people duped basically all the end game content like major trophies, cool down materials, BIS gear (at the time), gold up to the gold cap. I don't think the game ever recovered from that. Plus the economy is fricking dead, it's impossible to flip shit on the trading post because everyone has everything and everything is basically worthless.
Guild wars 2
Speaking of MMOs. This just came out on steam.

Man New World has great world design (atmosphere & soundscape), even the actual controls are good, but the content is garbage. The economy is the worst, there practically isn't any. Everything is worthless, loot 1000 elite chests and you'll salvage 99.9% of everything because all none perfect gear is worthless. The entire end game is trying to roll perfect legendary gear. Crafting is a complete money sink, it's not viable at all. Basically everything you will roll is worthless and spent a fortune rolling it. At the off chance you roll a BIS item you can sell it for max cash to the the territory holders of Everfall or Windsward who make millions every week just for holding the territory (plebs have to grind for a couple hundred coins).

We're all MMO junkies here, we are already used to not being rewarded for better effort.
SMT Imagine, Rusty Hearts, RO 2, Tera, Aika Online
Aika relied so heavily on big faction based pvp that it was doomed from the start.
My current theory is that any MMO focused too much on either PvP, PvE or faction stuff isn't going to work. All of those elements need to come together to form a system that makes sense as a whole.
I miss Tera.
That was the dragon flying one right?
Earth & Beyond. Tabula Rasa.
Frick EA. Frick NCSoft.
Met the President of Petroglyph at GenCon once while wearing my Earth and Beyond beta tester t-shirt. Shit was cash.
Anyone remember Wonderland online? I want another turn based mmo rpg…
i think i might, is this the one where u can choose a nurse as a starting character?
I miss Rift every day. I wish someone would leak all their code or something so we could have private servers instead of the husk the game is today.
Age of Wushu was really fun. Honestly think it had some of the coolest hotkey combat in the genre. Me and my brother would hang outside one of the cities and just attack people all night or kidnap offline people and sell them to prostitute houses.
It was so fun until I couldn't play because of lack of time but maybe pserver will appear in the next decade or DD2.
Alchemist is the most fun tank class in any mmo.
the fact that this game was never localized and released in the West pains me. i really hope DD2 is like this MMO on super AAA steroids.
just in the last 8 years or so i've already gotten kinda weary of getting invested in live service games that'll eventually be shut down. i hate the feeling of wanting to play a game that just doesn't exist anymore. fortunately, because of roms and emulation, that's not a huge issue with most video games. it still stings when it happens though, keeps me hesitant to engage with MMOs or ARPGs that don't have an offline mode.
I STILL MISS YOU WILDSTAR! There isnt a class i love as spellslinger in any mmo
world of warcraft
Same. Shits cash no cap.
have played many MMOs through the years chasing the high I experienced as a kid in early WoW.
A dead server on a dead region of Maplestory: EMS Demethos. Shit was depressing
Black desert online.
God damn if I miss playing ToS and being part of that OC community shit, the music was so good too I had thousands of hours if only the game didn’t run like ass at launch.
Does anyone know what game this is? Looks like an mmo maybe but not sure.
I think that's Tera
Looks nothing like Tera. Could be Rift, I think I've seen this questioned asked and answered before, but could be just another deja vu.
>Could be Rift
That was it, yeah. I've never played either, I just remembered it was one of those MMOs from the early 2010s with a short name
Guess I'm installing Rift now. Might be playable alone for the most part
Looks like someone's shitty UE asset store demo instead of a videogame
Having played RIft pretty extensively a million years ago, I never would've been able to peg this as Rift it it were for the rift that shows up for a fraction of a sec at :53. I vaguely remember they did a water expansion, but the only expac I played was the Storm one because you got it free for playing on Raptr.
Is there any archived MMOs? Like ones where you can boot a server yourself or just run it single player. When I was younger I liked just walking around dying MMOs and seeing the world that they'd made. Want to try recreate that.
Any MMO with private server tools lets you do this easily.
This game was dogshit
but I want it back.
Tbh if not moronic monetization (skins pricing+ticket system) and balance changes (especially after server merge, such as stam changes) it could've survived for another half a year at least. But alas. They'll try to make a lif2 of sorts (mentioned numerous times back then), but it'll take a while, if not scrapped already.
t. 2100 hours, half of them on autoclicker to level stuff
>Godenland comes out
>everyone breaks the combat dummies with their autoclickers despite the new exp system only needing a couple minutes of hitting
>guild builders constantly seething
>Arena releases
>Consumption of small repair kits increases tenfold
ONE LOG TEN NAILS. At least made T4 plategays seethe there with nordic sword thrust, loved it.
Still exp system was one of the best things they implemented with gayland. Mostly to combat "pay for REEmium or suffer -2 to your 90 cav after death BOI".
If only these gays released dedicated mmo server or idk updated YO. I do know that there's a chinese version, but nah, won't be the same.
meh, i mostly played the ones that were popular at the time with big player base. the only one i truly miss is Archage, homosexuals did it dirty.
MMO's are dead in general for me. i have found GW2 to be one of the funnest nu-western mmos for me since i tried it last week, and im still coping with pso2 jp (its not exactly an mmo). i cant even bring myself to play osrs just because its so different and easier, but going onto that Ganker runescape private server feels like im just playing it solo. i played all the shitty korean mmos that killed off themselves like BDO/BNS and so on. i still somewhat find playing lineage 2 pvp fun (because my dad plays it sometimes on a russian private server)
Different kind but related two questions:
1) Which of currently available MMOs would be best for me if I intend to play healer/support and help people in dungeons? This is my primary way of playing this genre, I remember how I was playing like this in ESO for months thanks to global level scaling and helping randoms in dungeon runs.
2) And which MMOs now feature non-target combat similar to Tera or Vindictus? GW2 sadly utilize semi-target.
Thanks for help!
FFXIV/WOW, i never really tried wow but mythic dungeons are just dungeons with higher scaled difficulty. you mean action combat? BDO but it has no dungeons and whatever, you kill world bosses and shit and do braindead mob farming in solo instanced zones to prevent getting pk'd for an hour or how much it gives you. BDO can be fun if you only dont take the game seriously and enjoy life skilling, but you still going to afk it alot in the background. also the gear grind is fricking aids. and dont ever expect to participate in pvp either unless you want arena pvp (the same thing as gw2/LA pvp where everyone have the same levels etc and is skill based)
Rappelz: classic old style korean MMO with no direction, fricked up economy and monetization, very laggy and unoptimized, barebones customization but a very indepth roster of classes and subclasses that were very well designed and distinct to one another, also it had one thing going for it : if you had a big guild you could invade a dungeon owned by another guild, dungeons would net you money that you could exchange for cash shop items depending by how active and big the dungeon is and because of this, we had feuds, ventrilo war rooms, alliances, mercenary guilds, for a shitty janky ass MMO it was incredible being part of that ecosystem.
Oh yeah, I totally forgot about the dungeon siege part. I didn't participate in one myself but they were nice to witness.
Personally, I really loved the pet system in the game. It was great and I liked how essential yet varied it was. It's why I always made sure to have a beast master class (That was its name iirc) character in every account I had, simply for the extra time when you double summon.
Seriously, no pet system even comes close.
FFXI when it was real. Modern XI is a museum.
>drift city
>space cowboys
>boundless planet
I just liked mmos that weren't fantasy rpgs
Aura Kingdom
It was fun while it lasted. The official servers were shit and there was a /vg/ guild that was actually competent on the private server.
Some one post the Russian wow clone that has breasts.
Space Cowboys/Ace Online/Air Rivals. Grindy Korean MMO bullshit with space bees that was always an interesting game to me and always blown me away having the ability to fly some space fighter and being able to fly around in real time.
Had good memory's but when I revisited it a couple of years ago on NA version of Ace Online man it aged worse then what I remembered. Good ideas just a little too early for them and a really terrible game engine that probably ran on space magic.
Shout out to all the Joto Space cowboys out there from my Air Rivals and NA Ace Online days. Hope you all are doing well after all these years.
I mostly remember it from plugsuit girl model for players in base. But flying around was fun too.
Blade and soul. it's dead
is it?
Wildstar was good.
Is it too late to play ToS now?
there's enough content to keep you entertained for a while and a small but still loyal playerbase, just go for it worst it could happen is you start erping with someone from the /vg/ general
I loathe what they did to the new player experience but it can't hurt to try
Okay, thanks.
>worst it could happen is you start erping with someone from the /vg/ general
Can't be that bad, right?
Yes it's a disaster, this is the worst time to start it ever.
Sorry about the >discord post but it's the only thing permitting semi-direct communication with IMC.
This is a complain from the leader of the EU newbie guild, basically guild made my IMC to help new players.
that era when you always had a new shitty korean or japanese mmo to try
There was a new one literally every week.
We were eating good and had no idea.
Lego universe
Maplestory2... I miss my guild...
I also miss maplestory2 shame Korean players telling lies and horrible na nexon devs killed it.
>Korean players telling lies
?
The whole telling lies about how you needed x stats to clear chaos raids and not telling folks about pets which were 25% damage boosts just so they could sell runs.
MO2
still play with my guild but holy shit this games dead
didn't it come out less than a year ago?
yeah, but not having territory control in the game basically defeats the point of playing for a large portion of the playerbase
and as it stands we wont see TC till next year at some point
salem is shit
SHIIIIIIIIIIT
Haha have a TON of memories of that game. We even tried Salem but never really got anywhere, did they ever even finish the "Witch" mechanic?
>What MMOs were you playing that inevitably died?
OSRS
Its dead to me, devs never made improvements and allowed reddit along with streamers dictate what was added to the game
I understand and appreciate player feedback to proposed changes but I draw the line at giving "the people" absolute final say when it comes to releasing new content, listen to the playerbase when it comes to tweaking content but don't let them destroy updating the game
I don't think I have even seen someone else talk about Mini Fighter in Ganker before
I played a RO private server recently and it remains the best MMO. The condition of the modern game is a shame. Make more isometric online games that aren't Diablo/PoE.
Battlestar Galactica online from when it was around 2011-2013 ish was really damn great.
Game only lasted a few years but was fun while it lasted.
Someone got ahold of the source code and remade it, but it's only like 10 people in one system with infinite money hacks, not the same
.
>BSG themed MMO
How the FRICK does that even work
It was a factional pvp game with a pretty basic gameplay loop
You choose either Cylon or humans , you have a number of systems that you own , used to farm resources and get bigger ships and ect
When enough players would get together they could take over an enemy system and its resources, leading to battles.
That was about it and it worked pretty well for the short time it lasted.
reminder, if your """MMO"""" was instanced outside of specific dungeon areas, then it wasn't an MMO and you were scammed. that means conan and guild wars shitters and the like need not apply
>scared to mention ffxiv
don't play weebshit son
it's "massively" and it is a word which has a specific meaning. you are not massively multiplayer if all you can see is at most 32 players. that's called regular multiplayer with a fancy server browser. dumb thirdworlder Black person
>wtf a game can be massive, multiplayer, and online without it being like the shitty MMO I played?
I miss warhammer
EVE
Played it for 12 years or so and I had never seen a game die as rapidly as eve did in early 2022.
>game is getting a little more popular around 2019-2020 due
>gets a further boost due to covid
>player count is doing pretty good
>a war that's gone on for nearly a year in delve reigon is starting to frick up the economy and well as the covid influx of players causing in-game inflation
>ccp spends a year promising an update to fix the economy and revamp it
>it finally relases
>it does the oppisite and makes the economy and industry completely worthless, all forms of money making are nerfed into the dirt, mining is rendered completely pointles among other things
>nothing to do anymore because making money solo or in small groups is no longer possible
>then ccp decides randomly out of nowhere that it doesn't like players talking about politics (both irl and in game) or being social or anything and sends chat mods to completely purge social hubs and groups that have existed for a decade or more, everyone who isn't a noob is banned from global chat for so much as swearing
>then they have the balls to increase the sub cost another 15$
Game dropped from an average of 25-30k players to 10-12k, in less then 4 months,
I hate what ccp did to my baby
Didnt that eve mobile also hurt regular eve?
I still dont understand why they couldnt put everyone in the same universe
Was this the scarcity update? Where players had been whining ten years plus that there's no point in fighting over resources since everything farmable (pirates, missions, asteroids, sites) are infinite? No point in fighting over farming spots when there's more spots than players. So the devs finally went ok, let's make things not infinite and players went NO NOT LIKE THAT.
The other stuff, chatpocalypse and price hikes, were pretty bad. Scarcity and economy revamp were exactly what the players wanted.
I wonder if there's a Massive Multiplayer Offline game
>wow is dead and rotting
>several little fantasy MMOs
>EvE
genre is fricking dead
I wish WoW died sooner it been poisoning mmos for too long and we finally got away from “if we don’t do like wow we will fail” mind set.
Is there anything coming out worth paying attention to? Mad world seemed kind of cool and its coming out soon.
Everything "coming out" is either a mobile gacha-shit p2w port or vaporware
aoc will be home for kmmo addicts.
theme park enjoyers will find residence in the riot mmo.
Anyone play Project: Gorgon?
Knight Online
The Matrix Online
Wildstar
>ctrl+f champions online: 0 results
i-i guess that's why it died, but for me it was the only "hero" mmo i liked and leveled to max, loved that cel-shading and the gameplay was good enough
does league of legends count?
wish someone would just leak something so people could play old league.
playing the old version is not going to make other players worse again.
i know, i just want to play the old league again. i dont want to go back to the old mentality i just want to play a more fun game.
Y'know what sounds fun? A city builder, but it's actually an MMO and servers are planets, each with starting shenanigans.
Did new world ever get servers where you're always opt into world pvp?
I saw rift in my steam feed the otherday, how dead is it, i do remeber having a good time 10 years ago playing it and i might install it for the lulzs but how is it this current year of the lord
Completely dead but it was a really good game. Just the dimension system itself was amazing and no one has done it since.
anyone plays DC Universe Online?
The Secret World, the combat was nothing special but I really enjoyed questing. The lore and stories that were going on even in the most basic bear ass fetching quest made it really engaging, and that's not even mentioning the investigation quests. There was crazy shit going on in every zone, like a motel that turned into a gateway to hell (complete with sexy demon enemies) not too far off from a haunted amusement park, on an island suffering from a combo zombie and viking deep one apocalypse
Had some of the most enjoyable quests in the entire mmo genre.
I read your post and immediately remembered TSW before following the backquote. I stopped at the Egypt world, but holy frick some of those quests were gold. I distinctly remember an ARG-esque one about a Stephen King rip off. I fricked up one of the steps of the puzzle and the devs accounted for people making the same mistake. I loved all those ARG sites going to real websites about fake shit, which is why I bought Black Watchmen.
It's really a shame that it went to shit, the first zone is so memorable to me.
There were so many things the game did right that fit its themes so well.
The puzzle quests felt engaging and kept you on your feet. You needed to look shit up on the in game web browser. Frick that shit was inventive.
The only two real theme park MMOs I got into were WoW and RIFT, but I've played a bunch of them. Honorable mention was Marvel Heroes, which was technically a MMO.
What I miss most is the Ganker communities in MMOs. It feels like the people in those communities have disappeared from this site entirely and replaced by election tourists and zoomers. I just can't relate with people here anymore.
Do the Rift devs not realize they could print money for their dead game by making 'actual' Rift classic and not the abomination they tried a few years ago?
That was actually fricking hilarious though.
>Hey Steve this WoW classic thing looks big we should try it too
>They literally take the modern game with all the modern classes, gear, balance, mechanics, systems and just make servers that cap the max level lower
>Okay heres your Classic Rift!
Battlestar galactica online
