Thoughts on reshade and other visual mods being used in MMOs?
We now know that they plan on cracking down on ALL modding in 7.0 because of dipshit "prog raiders" using literal cheats, but shouldn't visual mods still be allowed?
It should be possible to distinguish between reshade and literal cheats, right?

reshade is not a cheat. its a graphical enhancement injection. its like saying nvidia ansel is a cheat except its "corporation approved"
Agreed, but SQUENIX has decided that ALL mods are now verboten because of cheaters...
I think they heavily mean gameplay modifying mods. You know actual cheats. They don't give two fricks if you're changing the ambient occlusion, color space, or using sex mods.
They explicitly stated "all mods" at the EU fanfest though...
"all mods" is vague statement. they have to say it for CORP PR speak. in reality they barely enforce their own GM rules. you can speedhack for years and not get banned as long as nobody reports you. same deal with mods. if you snitch on yourself posting on twitter with sex mods dont get made you get banned when people report you.

No, as reshade is injecting into game code
It's literally like AMD got every CS2 player VAC banned
To add note, it needs developers to whitelist reshade or else it will not work/will get you banned
You might quick google some games with harsh custom anticheats and add reshade to query, you will notice that some will ask why it's not working
Reason is, anticheat blocks code injection
I haven't heard of a games anti cheating blocking reshade since 2011 with PSO2 and gameguard and that was fixed in just a week.
Tower of Fantasy
Tower of Fantasy uses Xigncode3. It has issues with more than just reshade it flags MSI Afterburner is a cheat and crashes your system.
Half of the remaining community would be flatout gone if they cracked down on modding.
Another thing is: They quite literally can't crack down on modding because that would imply them working on the client, which is something they haven't done in a decade.
7.0 includes a completely rebuilt client and an entirely new graphics pipeline. They can, and apparently are going to do it based on interviews.

Lol no the two death blows to the game were the increased moderation as of Shadowbringers that killed the social aspect of the game, turning it into a troony-coomer safespace and then the influx of WoWBlack folk bringing over their add-on culture.

Honestly the modding scene blew up after all the wowgays started playing during late Shadowbringers.
I like the mods I use but I played Syormblood and Shadowbringers completely without them.
If SE can integrate the functionality of some of the tweak mods and ban the rest I would not mind because hopefully it will make the raidgays and coomers frick off.
If SE was smart, they would very incrementally crack down on mods, which I hope they do
a nuke approach does not work because of the fallout that would follow
mods are literally going nowhere. they would have to implement a super invasive client side anti cheat which is illegal in japan. they aren't going to bolster their server side defense either because that would cause too much server downtime. the solution is just have more GMs crack down on reports.
