A lot of them look like shit honestly, too brightly colored. Here, Ganker's just getting older and/or just burnt ourselves out on video games.
On the surface it seems like they're fine, much better even than what we had during the PS2 era and more recently PS3. The technology behind is on a completely different level and there has been an increase in complexity through added RPG mechanics and character progression systems. Even niche genre like stealth are now producing games with fully developed combat systems allowing for extra variety. However despite that modern games completely fall appart when it comes to gameplay, everything plays the same, and they are sabotaged by predatory monetization practices. Furthermore when it comes the type of experiences and stories games provide nowadays there's been a drastic drop in quality because games have to be politically correct and they are written by people who hate video games and despise their audience because they're failed writers that wanted to write movies and netflix shows.
Play a highly rated game from PS2 era, play a highly rated game from PS3 era and play a recent highly rated game that's not Elden Ring and the decline is evident.

Rpg mechanics add nothing and are superficial depth. When all potential emergent properties have been removed due to having too many very specific checks before anything activates it makes a very linear, predictable experience. Stat fluff doesn't change how you can play in any significant manner.
That's ludicrous. SimCity has huge problems with traffic and economy. The Sims has players making tens of thousands per day selling fruit. The Legend of Zelda has 1 open world game, and it's not even very fantasy-meets-reality sandbox. Call of Duty got worse by having approximately zero effective knowledge of how to make size-worthy maps. Character action games are mostly 2-button (light-heavy). Is somebody really supposed to play BR all day? MOBAs? Other lobby games? So what and how about amounts of characters and a persistent world?

It's all surface level graphics, that honestly don't look that much better than the 7th gen, and nothing underneath. Just flat boring simplistic games, with no attention to detail. Most modern games just copy elements from past games. I'm not even a boomer but the games from the 90s/00s often tried something new, not always sucessfull, sometimes really janky but at least you could feel that the developers where invested in the game while you play.

The problem is that modern games are not what they should have become. The previous era of games were filled with many failed games and many revolutionary games; mainly because the medium was relatively new and there was a potential for very high reward if the devs risked going outside the preconceived formula.
Nowadays because of corporate and beuracracy risk is minmized and instead of AAA developers making a new game with a new engine and new gameplay they reuse the same formula over and over and assume that if they add a couple of ((unique)) features like a grappling hook and then up the graphics a bit then it can make just enough to please the corporate overlords.
So all in all, the reason all modern games are shit is the same reason many other industries are shit. The big boys prioritize money over art and there's nothing anyone can do about it.

Ive seen many conversations about asscreed origins being better than valhalla, as well as fond memories of Dead Space 3 such as its coop and hallucinations. Theres plenty of last CoD game was better than this CoD game for every CoD game that released. If we talk about modern big releases, they can be compared to licensed schlock made some 20 years ago that had no merit to itself beside the name. There is nothing outright wrong with them generally, but there's also nothing interesting or unique about them. And if we take budgets, manpower and dev times into account, we have fairly basic and mediocre games developed for years by hundreds of people that will be forgotten in a month or two.

Too dumbed down where moves track for miles, are made on into one size fits all attacks, and/or are simplified into too little options. I don't like games that play themselves, it isn't fun. I also enjoy high risk games, shit like MvC.
