>$54,000 per person per year salary >dev team in the 1000s >Half of the employees are probably doing fricking nothing just getting paid to sit around at the office
Gee I wonder why games suck. A dev team of 12 guys who are passionate about the project can make gold but 1000 diversity hires are only ever going to make shit.
Ganker will do anything to justify their belief that gigantic detailed AAA games with hours and hours of cutscenes and scripted sequences and top tier grafix can totally be made on a small budget and the thousands of people who work on these games don't actually do anything
"cutscenes" includes every single possible scripted sequence or conversation
i agree sister all those cutscenes are so hard to code in!!!
oh look more troony obsession, nu-Ganker deranged as usual.
How many people worked on Deus Ex?
if a game came out today with the same production values as deus ex everyone on this board would be making fun of it and calling it le blunder of the century. imagine if every single cutscene and conversation in the next sony movie game was 2 characters standing completely still, doing nothing but the same reused breathing animation. dozens and dozens of threads because a character in the latest spiderman game looks weird and you really think that people would be cool with half of the characters in the game having the same running animation? i know people here like to say "ermm i dont care about grafix lmao" but even something like from games occasionally reusing enemies/animations gets people complaining, Ganker would consider deus ex unacceptable garbage if it released today.
>production values
Gameplay and writing come first, and anyone who isn't a shitposting tourist will appreciate if those are done well. I don't know why you're placing so much emphasis on ban-evading buzzword screechers.
I'm not the anon you're talking to and I don't give enough of a shit about your conversation to read the past replies but I just wanna interject that video game players' standards are not actually high at all.
look at genchink impact. it reuses the same like 4 fricking models at maybe like 5 generic speaking animations for every fricking dialog. god I hate that fricking piece of shit game but ultimately players don't actually care about asset reuse.
>5 generic speaking animations
that's 5 times more than the 0 generic speaking animations deus ex has. i dont play chink gacha garbage but i really doubt the game has many reused and animation that deus ex does. even now you're trying to cite 5 generic speaking animations as deus ex levels of production value when deus ex doesn't even have any speaking animations, the characters just use their normal idle animations while their mouths move.

I don't give a shit about what your conversation was about. I'm telling you video game players have low standards. I don't care about whatever autistic argument you were having with the other moron. I stated thus at the beginning of my reply.
>ame came out today with the same production values as deus ex everyone on this board would be making fun of it and calling it le blunder of the century. imagine if every single cutscene and conversation in the next sony movie game was 2 characters standing completely still, doing nothing but the same reused breathing animation. dozens and dozens of threads because a character in the latest spiderman game looks weird and you really think that people would be cool with half of the characters in the game having the same running animation? i know people here like to say "ermm i dont care about grafix lmao" but even something like from games occasionally reusing enemies/animations gets people complaining, Ganker would consider deus ex unacceptable garbage if it released today. >different people think different things >this is somehow an argument
Schizo, it's med time.
They bought it more than 17 years ago in 2006, when the site was 1.5 years old. There is likely not a single line of code left by the original creators. They have ship of theseus'd it five times over since they bought it.
Ubisoft makes games, Google makes the platform that games are on. Google will always be more profitable for that reason. Funnily enough, Google did try to get into game dev but they failed. They shut down the studio in Montreal, while the Ubisoft studio is going strong.
Most Google programmers live in Silicon Valley. Pretty sure Ubisoft uses offshore resources in their development (meaning INdia and other low COL areas)
The only way to make a shitload of cash with videogames is to be indie and make your game viral.
Or to be one of those highly specialized programmers that work with the internals of hardware and/or game engine, but at that point you are more of a graphics programmer than a game developer
Videogames is more about marketing than programming nowadays.
ubishit has very good tech department and their in-house engine is alright, despite being bound to just few thereads (FC engine is basically single-core lol)
also game coder slalary is ~100k
54k is for some low-skill grunt who does testing or props placing, not coding
I'd believe that. The guy I knew went in planning to use it as a springboard for getting higher salary elsewhere. I dunno how it went after he got the job, lost contact with him.
From what I heard, it's full of ideologues who cannot actually program as senior staff, so if you actually make something there, you'd get overruled by those people all the time until you quit. There is a reason all their recent projects flopped and the quality of their existing products is nosediving.
The average tenure in all big tech is 1-2yrs, it's pretty soulless but people try to hang on as long as possible because of the good money. Everyone has limits though
Why bother paying anyone to work at Ubisoft when you can just oursource the work to Ukraine, China, India, South Korea or Vietnam instead and then just throw it together yourself like you're using the Unreal asset store.
>google search >gets dumber and dumber every year >jewtube >runs like shit >I won't watch the ads >chrome >the reason steam is killing windows 7 >gmail >stole my fricking account and won't give it back
why do these people get paid so much when all they do is make their products worse?
I was trying to find some information about a game and none of the search engines I tried could find it. eventually I found it by searching for a /jp/ post using the archive's search. I tried searching for the exact phrase that answered my question using israelitegle and it couldn't find it, but did return a completely different post from the same archive site.
All of those are caused by ((management)) decisions, not engineering talent. gayman companies and especially Google have a lot of problems like their insane promotion process, but that doesn't result in core products getting worse, it just causes them to shit out worthless products that get cancelled within a few years.
Good programmers and engineers don't seek out careers in video games. You're getting cause and effect mixed up. Just like translators, graphic artists, and any other career. Video games is where dumbasses go. Everyone else goes into the real corporate world or STEM-related businesses.
yea if you count 30-60 years old games modern games
It's been known for a while, people in the game dev industry are people who couldn't make it in the tech sector
>Ubisoft, France
>Google, California
Gee I wonder why
entertaining goyim < $exploiting goyim$
>French company they were never good at anything
>one of the big 4
truly a mystery
if you've ever used anything programmed by google, you'd be happy that those devs are no where near your games.

Fricking bigot. Do you have any idea how deep uncle Larry's pockets are? Let me guess, you're white?
Ganker will do anything to justify their belief that gigantic detailed AAA games with hours and hours of cutscenes and scripted sequences and top tier grafix can totally be made on a small budget and the thousands of people who work on these games don't actually do anything

if i wanted cutscenes i go watch a movie homosexual

he's right though. Ganker tortanics every time a new AAA game isn't the best looking game to ever release
i agree sister all those cutscenes are so hard to code in!!!
How many people worked on Deus Ex?
and you’ll pretend we need those shitty cutscenes and manjaw graphics
do devs really get paid that little? i thought it was all 80k+
Games are for children and manchidlren.
are people who make games manchildren? Gaben is a fricking billionaire
pretty sweet deal for doing absolutely nothing, right?
Every single Google product besides Google and Youtube was a failure.
theyre fricking youtube as well
>Google product
>youtube
they didn't make it anon, they bought it
They bought it more than 17 years ago in 2006, when the site was 1.5 years old. There is likely not a single line of code left by the original creators. They have ship of theseus'd it five times over since they bought it.
>google drive
>gmail
>android
aren't all those "capable" programmers making shitty JavaScript applications though?
Why should we pay trannies $179k?
Why are you so obsessed with trannies?
cause venture capital free money
Oh great here comes the schizos

that must be the average salary or something, I'm sure there are ubisoft programmers that earn that much.
To be fair most Ubisoft studios are in Canada and France. When I started at Ubi Quebec my annual salary was 70k Canadian dollars.
>70k in Canada’s highest tax province
Holy shit that’s literally poverty
The highest tax provinces are the islands.
Most Google programmers live in Silicon Valley. Pretty sure Ubisoft uses offshore resources in their development (meaning INdia and other low COL areas)

This. Nowadays game devs can use open source game engines or create simple ones and still earn millions. Gameplay >>>> graphics.
ubishit has very good tech department and their in-house engine is alright, despite being bound to just few thereads (FC engine is basically single-core lol)
also game coder slalary is ~100k

Don't most Google employees on average leave after a year, or something?
I saw a YouTube video about it, so it must be true.
I'd believe that. The guy I knew went in planning to use it as a springboard for getting higher salary elsewhere. I dunno how it went after he got the job, lost contact with him.

>google doesn't suck
Anon, it's literally got a bigger 'cultural diversity' team than most fricking corporations
Reason games suck is the reason msot big software companies suck: execs want more money and disregard user-friendlyness and optimization
>google
>good programmers
HOWLING at this
The interviews to get in are so outrageously hard, the software engineers there deserve a little credit just having made it in
all theory no real world
where do you get this number?
>moot makes 180k a year now
He quit last year after seeing out his 4 year stock grant
Why bother paying anyone to work at Ubisoft when you can just oursource the work to Ukraine, China, India, South Korea or Vietnam instead and then just throw it together yourself like you're using the Unreal asset store.
its kinda fun
And yet chrome runs poorly anyways.
179K in California shitties is like 22K in real money though?
>programming modern art
>programming the antichrist
Why programmers? Do you believe those money will save you?
99% of programmers out there are not involved in that. They're fixing monotonous bugs in random CRUD web apps or mobile apps
>google search

skill issue

The quotations are the most important part. Any search engine will bullshit you otherwise.

apples an oranges comparison moron kun.
would you like to compare burger king and boeing next?
If google is so capable why does updating their browser after 2016 ruin it?
