Mods are pointless

Why are many people obsessed with modding games? Why is it hard for you to experience a game exactly as the developers originally intended?

Even if that is true, why do you care so much about how people enjoy something that doesn't affect you at all? I can understand being against someone downloading a bunch of hacks in a multiplayer game since that directly affects others' enjoyment. But why do you care that someone enjoys their steak that they bought with their money in the way they enjoy?

How would you like it if some dictator came along and outlawed all your console exclusives because that's how he thinks videogames should be played regardless of what you think or enjoy?

    >Why is it hard for you to experience a game exactly as the developers originally intended?

Because people like a personalized experience and enjoy making their version of a mass-produced item "theirs". That's why you see kitbashing in people who enjoy models, car customization in car enthusiasts, people who renovate their houses among other things.

Being an ignoramus and using this as a means to bash the PC gaming audience smells of being a bootlicker who is against people customizing their possessions and speaks of how unaware you are of human nature.

      >a bootlicker who is against people customizing their possessions and speaks of how unaware you are of human nature
This seems to be a reoccurring thing with video games. I don't get why there are so many shit-eating consumers when it comes to video games. They'll willingly pay a premium for a piece of shit that they don't technically own, can't mod, and can possibly be a glitchy piece of shit for years and then thank the developer for fixing what should have been a functional product in the first place. And don't get me started on shit like gatchas and Micro-transaction nonsense. Is there any other consumer-base that would willingly eat this much shit and thank the provider with the opportunity?

It's because of the parasocial nature of the videogame industry where they try and sell you a "lifestyle" and that you're "part of a family". As far as I know, it's something about digital media that encourages this almost religious devotion to what company says. As far as I know atleast in cars, people will talk shit about your car manufacturer, what parts you get etc. but they'll never shit talk the fact that you can customize your car.

The parallel with the car industry is interesting because car manufacturers are trying to implement as many subscription services as they can (for example, BMW tried to implement a subscription for fricking seat heaters), as well as preventing the customer from modifying the car's insides by using very coercive TOS that voids your warranty if broken. They're basically trying to follow the "you'll own nothing" scheme. Electronics are now being used as invisible shackles.

Yup. Had to downgrade to a 2012 because the soft in my Toyota was compromised. I'm annoyed that I have to buy older vehicles from here on out but at the same time, maybe this is just the point in my life where I'm realizing less is actually more.

The worst offenders are Tesla. You can't even mod the keys without voiding the warranty. But japanese manufacturers are pretty bad too, I know Mazda is geolocating and monitoring your car 24/7 in Japan thanks to 5G.

Its hugbox gaming. Some people can't stand having a single thing that offends them or makes them uncomfortable, and this includes basic obstacles and challenging gameplay, so they just make a big hugbox. This doesn't apply to bug fixes or custom maps or anything, but all of your big modding scene games like tes and fallout attract these types.

I sometimes mod remasters or such to restore content the way developers initially intended. Yakuza games for example, they had this tendency on remasters to replace shit due to whatever, censorship, copyrighted stuff, voice actors being accused of being drug addicts, so modding them is just fair.
And I played Dragon's Dogma without mods for a long period of time, but at some point I just got fricking tired and used a stamina mod.
Also some visual novels like 07th expansion ones, so many of those with different content/styles between re-releases modding is the best thing you could do

  47. 4 months ago
    Anonymous

    > as the developers originally intended
This is bs. Their original intent, their vision, is never realized, they always change it in the dev process and the result is often rushed, bugged, censored, content cut for later dlc, not thoroughly tested, dull grind, full of woke etc. Many games are not sufferable without mods that fix this and add missing quality of life features. And modding, being creative, productive, can be great fun as such. Sometimes even more than playing.

  52. 4 months ago
    Anonymous

    >Why is it hard for you to experience a game exactly as the developers originally intended?
Sometimes developers don't give you 'enough' of experience, which is why user-created content helps to fill that niche
Sometimes developers are autistic and refuse to fix balance issues in the game, and again only users can help with that
Sometimes developers just don't care, since they are wagies like any other person doing chores without putting much thoughts into it. Again, mods can fix these games and you will see players recommending playing the game only with mods
I have no respect to coomer modders in non-coom games though.
