You don't get it anon, I must act like a hardcore edgy homosexual by liking Gajin Journey and Nocturd over the nusona titles!
It makes me look cool when in reality I'm being nothing more than a douchebag!
Man shut the frick up, Persona games muscled out and destroyed any hope of an interesting Shin Megami Tensei release. I loved P3, but 4 and 5 have been a blight on not just the franchise, but the entire company.
And DDS shits on both persona and nocturne to begin with. Fricking b***h ass little homosexual.
>destroyed any hope of an interesting Shin Megami Tensei release. I loved P3, but 4 and 5 have been a blight on not just the franchise, but the entire company.
newbie, that was purely Cozy and several Atlus staff members poor decisions that ultimately lead to company being changed for the worse. >Alienate your fanbase by releasing EP, a game that takes a shit on IS story while having being poorly written to the point it constantly contradicts itself with plotholes while having a forgettable cast >Alienate them again with Nocturne, a game that doesn't have the traditional elements that people loved >Didn't do anything with the Devil Children IP despite it doing very well at the time >Release a fricking MMO on the Xbox than the GameCube, then realizing that nobody in Japan likes the Xbox so they had to scrap the online version >Tried to do a actual MMO on PC but had terrible collaborations and awful writing, which died in a few years >Alienate your Debisama fans by releasing Raidou, which barely has anything people liked about Debisama + Soul Hackers >Every game since EP been a flop left and right until Persona 4 happened, which which only happened because the company was desperate for anything to be a success, so they let Hashino pull a reboot of Persona with visual novel mechanics via Persona 3, as Persona 4 takes the visual novel aspect an another level >Persona 4 sells very well and thus the company becomes more focused on modern Persona than SMT or oldsona
All of this could have been prevented if the old Atlus wasn't so moronic.
>Release a fricking MMO on the Xbox t
What was going on in Japan back then? The Xbox was notorious for being the most unpopular console by a large margin, and yet there were games that were Xbox exclusive being released like Tales of Vesperia and Steins;Gate.
Literally the team at Microsoft that was in charge of getting JP exclusives to try and move units in Japan just had too specific taste. Look at the Xbox exclusive Japanese games from the first Xbox. There's not many but they're all good/interesting. But nothing that would get mainstream attention/move lots of consoles.
>Nocturne is a masterpiece that completely revolutionized the series.
It killed the series from to the point that IV to V are nothing more nostalgia berries by copying previous games than doing something unique or original.
Watch when SMT VI gets released and it's nothing more than "REMEMBER NINE" with some kind of connection to it.

What did you expect? Sega got rid of all the founders of Atlus that made SMT what it was so it's obvious that the remaining people will just chase the old glory days.
a fricking MMO on the Xbox than the GameCube, then realizing that nobody in Japan likes the Xbox so they had to scrap the online version
Allegedly, Microsoft commissioned Atlus to make a game for them and NINE was just what came of it, hence it being Xbox exclusive
>Allegedly, Microsoft commissioned Atlus to make a game for them and NINE was just what came of it, hence it being Xbox exclusive
LMAO what are you even talking about? The game is stuck on xbox because it was made in collaboration with Nex Entertainment which holds the license for it. Microsoft had nothing to do with this game lol.
fpbp, Megaten is the best RPG series of all, mainline perfect core elements, Persona awesome and unique hybrid game, Raidou cool detective action games, Devil Survivor fun tactical RPG. The tribalism is stupid, stupider than for most franchise.
I think it's less of a forced split, but more that the fanbase split itself primarily out of ignorance rather than choice. Personagays, especially newer ones, only really like P5, and maybe know of 3 and 4, and completely ignore 1 and 2, and have no idea SMT exists. SMTgays get angry and frustrated that their being thrown into the shadow by the horde of newbies who scream the loudest but know the least about the franchise, and so they get a negative view of Persona.
oldgay fan here.
Persona is fricking garbage. Absolute homosexualshit.
I'm too old to pretend i'm a fricking highschooler.
I fricking everything about persona, except for poem for everyone soul.
Demifiend is a highschooler too moron. The only difference between both is Persona actually fleshes out characters and has down to earth interactions rather than everyone just being cardboard edgelords. Besides, neither SMT or Persona have good gameplay anyway. The only rpgs with decent gameplay are tactics game like FFTactics. SMT fedora elitists are the most miserable tryhards on the planet.
Redux makes the game way easier, shits on the story and the original endings, the new plot-important character is super cancerous, and so is the extra dungeon.
Because they got rid of menu'ing where you have to keep switching on and off certain programs because they really enjoy having to turn them on and off every so often because of how certain levels are laid out. The captain buffs are a bit more understandable but other than its out of convenience that they changed more of the jankier shit in Redux. Only issue is Womb of Grief is more cancer.
>Sector 5 was already horrible torture. WoG and the final final dungeon managed to almost break me, even when fueled by the power of almost being done. Amazing game, never playing it again.
Strange Journey was a game with a lot of nuance and the remake shit all over that. It's an objectively better "game". But the original has a much more definitive "experience", with more artistic integrity and vision. It's a bit autistic, sure, but it's a shame that the franchise has been done dirty like this. Because Megaten used to be really good at this stuff. Atlus remakes always tend to ruin the original vision/soul and add on gross stuff that override or straight up ruin the original source material/intent. So it's a shame. And it's a shame that most people don't actually care about this stuff. I'm hard pressed to recommend the original over the remake with all of that said as the remake adds so many necessary QoL improvements. Just know that the game didn't intend to have endings where you have your cake and eat it too. Or for Monokuma Zeus. Or dicky Demeter. Or any of that other cringe shit. Thankfully most all of it is optional and tucked away in it's own Sector.
>adult protagonist with actual combat experience
Why can't this be more common in SMT and JRPGs in general? I'm getting sick of all thr damn kid and twink protagonists.
i dont know but i wish atlus did this more in general with both smt and persona, luckily we're getting metaphor which looks like not-persona 6 with a different setting which is nice.
I haven't played many megatens yet, but combat experience doesn't seem all that necessary when guns and demon summoning do most of the work for you. It's not like protags usually need to go rip and tear with their bare hands. But I do agree with you.
Because the protagonist of the original novel is a high-school twink who summons demons on his school bullies, probably. It's at the heart of mainline. Love me Space Marine tho.
>I'm getting sick of all thr damn kid
I am sick of high school settings. They should do something like Yakuza 7 and have an actual adult casts. The spoke like actual adults and it was kino
The problem is that a social sim revolving around an adult japanese guy wouldn't be very interesting. Even in Catherine which was basically the closest we got to "adult" Persona you get to control Vince during the evening because he's a fricking electronic engineer wagie that literally does nothing but sit in an office all day.
I think japan in general loves teen protagonists because it's easy for teens to self insert as, and adults want to go back to when they were teens anyway
>Played Etrain Oddssey on PC >Got burnt out in 9 hours >Picked up Strange Journey Redux >Could not stop playing >Played for 9 hours straight
What the hell, this is how dungeon crawling should be
I would also add that demon fusion is the most fun party building mechanics, while EO is kind of terrible for party building where the party you make at the beginning is it for the rest of the game.
I wish
with demon fusing most of demons end up being the same spellcaster with concentrate, media/mediarama and some buff/debuff, just with different sprites
EO has actual party building where your composition actually matters because each character specializes to cover a different need of the team
>with demon fusing most of demons end up being the same spellcaster with concentrate, media/mediarama and some buff/debuff, just with different sprites
This.
I don't get the appeal.
It's neat seeing the different designs at first but it feels like you're just making the same shit over and over again with higher stats and once you realise this it makes fusion feel like a middle man.
I never have that happen to me, the variety in demon weaknesses and resistances is always different per game so trying to create your caster, healer etc while upgrading them to other demons that might have critical weaknesses to the next boss so you have to cover for it etc, there are so many elements you are ignoring that makes the demon fusing very fun
>might have critical weaknesses to the next boss so you have to cover for it
So you switch it to the 4th spellcaster demon you have in your stock, but this time they null the boss element, so they lose turns and it's a free win.
Only tbh had fusing that actually encouraged party building, thanks to affinities or incredibly limited slots + racial skills
Affinities were a step in the right direction because you can't simply carry over the same skills for every demon, but that's 2 games in the entire series.

But the spell caster needs to be the proper spell caster to hit the weakness and its fun to sometimes have a spellcaster than can heal or buff, there are many choices to be made
I just started playing this after hacking my 3DS.
I've always wanted to play it and I have no idea why I didn't buy it back when it was new (I did actually play the DS original on my flashcart years back but only for about an hour).
I'm a few hours in and want to go out on a limb here and say the girl in red is some kind of new content for Redux because she sticks out like a sore thumb compared to everything else i've encountered this far.
Possibly the most moronic and forced fanbase split of all time
There is no reason not to love both

It's like asking to choose between breasts and ass. The only acceptable answer is yes.

Black person hands typed that post.

I think fan of smt are just miffled that they only get scraps from fatlus in comparison to persona
This. Holy shit imagine fighting over two things THIS similar.

yes, but he isn't doing schoolshit.
I don't have any problems with young protagonists, but pretending going to the school is fricking pathetic.
MUH SOCIAL LINKS, MUH WAIFU, MUH PEDOPHILIC TEACHERS!!!!
there's plenty of reason to hate persona games because they're fricking shit
"There is no reason not to love both"
When you desperate for attention
Frick the remake, frick the difficult spike at the final boss.
>redux
character art/waifu donut steel aside it's a better game
Seems you got wrong version
>no strange journey boomershooter
why do people say Redux is bad?
Tryhard contrarianism
Redux is objectively better
They hyperfixate on some elements and blow them out of proportion, you can call any game bad this way
Redux makes the game way easier, shits on the story and the original endings, the new plot-important character is super cancerous, and so is the extra dungeon.
>and so is the extra dungeon.
Shekinah is a better boss fight than Mem Aleph doing nothing but cycling through the highest tier damaging spells
That's only Mem Aleph 1, Mem Aleph 2 has all sorts of fun gimmicks.
Because they got rid of menu'ing where you have to keep switching on and off certain programs because they really enjoy having to turn them on and off every so often because of how certain levels are laid out. >Sector 5 was already horrible torture. WoG and the final final dungeon managed to almost break me, even when fueled by the power of almost being done. Amazing game, never playing it again.
It's not bad but its a side grade. It does some things better than the original game but others worse.
Just because your standards for a remake are absolute rock bottom doesn't mean we should accept redux for only being minorly shitty
Strange Journey was a game with a lot of nuance and the remake shit all over that. It's an objectively better "game". But the original has a much more definitive "experience", with more artistic integrity and vision. It's a bit autistic, sure, but it's a shame that the franchise has been done dirty like this. redux neutered the best boss in the series
The DS version maybe, ya dumb frick
Mastema on the cover!
Someday when V gets its maniax, we'll have a true full fledged 3D Mastema. I'm sure of it.
do you ever get to walk around or is it just a menu simulator

you guys are actually moronic
don't @ me because I am right

SMT4 mogs both

Way to out yourself for not playing the game
Space Yukiko was a mistake.

Why can't this be more common in SMT and JRPGs in general? I'm getting sick of all thr damn kid and twink protagonists.

A teenager wouldn't even know how to use a gun properly, especially a Japanese teenager.
Because the protagonist of the original novel is a high-school twink who summons demons on his school bullies, probably. It's at the heart of mainline. Love me Space Marine tho.
It only now occurs to me that FFVII averts the wildly popular JRPG child protagonist.
Even with how shitty soul hackers 2 was it at least had an adult protagonist with some agency unlike every other cuck on a leash jarpig MC.
because old women are ugly
we need the MC to romance young women
but making the age gap too big will be seen as creepy
so MC has to be young
>I'm getting sick of all thr damn kid

lol, LMAO
People that post this trash version seem not to realize that this game marks the total death of the last remnant of the old SMT team.
My PC was down for a week and i played this for about 15 hours in a week. Level 50 and I am burnt out.
>mogs every game made by the shitty Strange Journey team
Dagda is one of the all time greatest demon bros.
Nah, V and SJ are much better.
Release on PC when? Could my RTX4090 handle it?
seriously release on console/pc when?
How do you end up spending more than 2k on a gaming PC and not know how to emulate? Are you a women?
Release what? Strange Journey? My dude I was playing that shit on release day on a emulator years ago.
Just emulate it anon. Or just buy a n3DS, mod it, and download every game for free through h-shop
>Played Etrain Oddssey on PC
>Got burnt out in 9 hours
>Picked up Strange Journey Redux
>Could not stop playing
>Played for 9 hours straight
What the hell, this is how dungeon crawling should be
EO has better combat but its irrelevant when the setting is so mundane
I would also add that demon fusion is the most fun party building mechanics, while EO is kind of terrible for party building where the party you make at the beginning is it for the rest of the game.

You are correct.
the combat and the story are good but unfortunately 90% of the game is dungeon crawling
i completed the penultimate dungeon and i was so burn out i never touched the game ever again
>redux
>2 Black folk
that shit cant mog anything by definition
SMT IV is the best. Once they remake/port to steam everyone will be saying the same.
I mean yeah but that's still shittier than the original version
