hybrid heaven is only good ironically. it's funny that it switches between tomb raider and vagrant story gameplay, and that you can DDT lizardmen. once the novelty wears off, you immediately want to stop playing.
parasite eve is one of the best rpgs ever made

you're probably just shitposting and only watched some e-celeb talking about it on youtube, since you use the word "ironically", but Hybrid Heaven is actually a slow burner and is the opposite of what you say. It starts slow and gets really good once you actually unlock all the suplex moves. The last portion of the game is what I enjoyed the most.
Also, multiplayer is extremely fun, especially if you play against another player who has his own customized character.

i don't think the pseudo real-time with pause combat works well. you "get" the positioning pretty quickly and after that it's a matter of either crippling a limb, or going for the generally easier approach of just beating the shit out of them
i cannot comprehend why they thought to have this gameplay style paired with wrestling combat. it's funny to watch, but not fun to play.
i haven't played the multiplayer though so i'll take your word that it works well

How so? positioning is one of the funnest mind games here, as you have to constantly control your stamina so you can get a good range and still have enough to perform long combos/suplex.

It's an ATB gauge battle engine but instead of just shooting enemies, you kill them with pro wrestling moves.

Once N64 emulation is as good as PSX emulation, I can form some opinions about N64 games. Until then, they're all bad by default because I can't play them, where as the entire library of PSX is good to go. Saturn is in the same boat, it's all garbage until I can actually play it.

The elephant in the room is, why do the battles turn into wrestling when the rest of the game involves shooting things like sentries?

the shooting and the platforming elements are rather half-assed, I'd honestly have preferred if the dungeon navigation of the game was just regular dungeon crawling, but I guess the shooting adds some dynamic to it, but yeah I wasn't a big fan of it.
The meat of the game is the battles anyway.
I did like the pseudo survival horror elements though, like running away from that giant monster thing.
