I know, obviously the point of the Joker is there was a guy who lived a life and then got destroyed by "something" and returned as the Joker, something that narratively does not work well for a young man.
However, the question was "how would you?", not that it was good idea.
I just wouldn't, period.
Because it's a fricking terrible idea.
Joker's origin is that he's an old-Gotham elite circle mobster with manic tendencies, who ends up dipped in acid; had reconstructive surgery done that got him stuck in clown-face mode; and then just took it all the way.
Late teens doesn't work for that. At-fricking-all.
And you are talking about Killing Joke backstory, which was a retcon that has been retconned, and Moore did not intend it to tie into the main canon anyway. Joker had and has no actual origin to be honest, he is better that way. Dark Knight film understood this one thing about the character. The only consistency to joker is that he was once the Red Hood before falling into chemicals.
Most people really like the chemical bath concept enough that its in most stories.
Ledger Joker's facial scars were meant to be the "chemical bath" in the Nolanized "realistic" portrayal". The event that created the joker but with the key details changing and being unknown.
>Joker's origin is that he's an old-Gotham elite circle mobster with manic tendencies, who ends up dipped in acid; had reconstructive surgery done that got him stuck in clown-face mode; and then just took it all the way.
That's not exactly accurate. You got that from the Burton movie. While The Joker's origin is intentionally vague and muddled in mystery, the most commonly agreed upon "origin" from Killing Joke is that he was a failed comedian roped into being a fall guy for the mob in a botched ACE Chemical heist
>Face facts: the Burton origin story is the most commonly accepted one.
.....That's only been applicable to that movie. And commonly accepted is still Killing Joke, which even casuals are aware of. It's been featured in the Arkham games, and even got its own animated movie
This in essence. The issue with Joker isn't having a canonical backstory as other anons pointed out, but the uniting thread that he's an adult that experience failure. Any younger than 25, even 30, would just echo the hard knocks and remnants of teenage angst every adult experiences in their early 20s
>in their
That would sound like a nice focus if this wasn't 2024 and that coming of age narrative has been done to death and simultaneously oriented around an anti "Toxic masculinity" narrative that trips up at every oppurtunity.
You'd have to make him less happy/funny. The joker's whole deal is that his experiences have led him to such extremes of cynicism that it's hopped over to life not just being a joke, but a funny one. As a grown man this works and feels credible. But trying the same thing with a young man just comes across as bog standard youthful angst and edginess. It doesn't have the same bite. So you have to go another route.
The only one I can think of that still preserves some amount of joker-ness would be someone that was brutally abused as a kid that is mostly sad and angry and for whom the "haha, life is a funny joke" stuff is clearly just a coping mechanism and not something he actually believes. I think you'd have to go for this more tragic, sympathetic, and depressing sort of character if you don't want people rolling their eyes at joker levels of cynicism in someone so young.
wait
if this is supposed to be the same arkham verse with batman
why the frick is joker back?
They explain in the video preview that this Joker is an alternative-universe version of Joker who became part of the Suicide Squad, so he's already more adjusted to being crammed into a team, and they also drew from the old roots of the early-comics Joker.
FRICK THE FRICKING JOKER AND EVERY moron WHO ONLY WANTS HIM
GIVE ME BACK THE COOL BATMAN VILLAINS
GIVE ME DANNY DEVITO AS THE MOTHERFRICKING PENGUIN
GIVE ME THE PUPPETMASTER
GIVE ME MR FREEZE
GIVE ME FRICKING BATMAN BEYOND ANYTHING HOLY FUKC THEY STILL DIDNT MAKE ANYTHING WITH IT NOT EVEN A REMAKE CAUSE THEY ARE TO BUY REBOOTING BATMAN VS JOKER VERY THREE YEARS FRICK THIS DOGSHIT MEDIA BUBBLE
Everyone knows the most shafted Batman rogue is probably Scarecrow. There are entire videoes about how they just keep turning the dude into a Joker pawn.
I mean I get that of all the Villian's Crane is the type of weirdo to sort of "get" and respect the Joker but that doesn't excuse what they've done with him over the decades.
Yes he too. Batman has so many glorious villains to pull from that are not only cool for fights but also psychological play in how they play off the personality of Batman.
Instead all we keep getting is the whacky tacky scrimblo man, his wacky tacky scrimblo wife and maybe leathercatprostitute.
Catwoman doesn't count. She hasn't been a hard villain in decades. The most evil thing she does is steal shiny baubles from rich people, which is offset by her going out of her way to save people all the damn time.
When was the last solid decade where she's been a full on villain? The 60's? 70's? Because the 1980's is when they started the whole anti-heroine kick and leaning in heavy into her being redeemable and the model for Batman's belief that criminals can change.
This is where Magpie should step in a Catwoman without a soul.
That's because Scarecrow's entire gimmick revolves around fear.
Batman's entire gimmick is fear.
And there's only so many times you can have Batman conquer the thing he's embraced before it gets old.
Also The Joker, Harley, Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze, Killer Croc, and Man-Bat are immune to his Toxin and Clayface probably is too. And every fricking hero in Gotham carries around some anti-Toxin at this point.
You know who isn't immune to it?
Scarecrow.
Imagine not being immune to your own bullshit when half your villainous colleagues are and all the city's heroes are a utility belt pouch away from shrugging it off.
No it's because bad writing and an inability to explore Scarecrow's potential.
They really only have him release his fear gas which just auto-scares you with very little finesse.
They can pull a nearly endless amount of stories out of their ass for the Joker because while people understand what he's about, they're creative with it every time.
Scarecrow can be more than just "gasses you and runs away" but they never do it.
Jonathan Crane doesn't want to just make you scared, he's got a hard on for fear. He wants to know what makes fear tick. He sees the beauty of fear and the power of it.
Just saying, they made characters like Spellbinder in Beyond instantly more interesting by doing a few small things like having the guy get kids addicted to his Illusion tech because he's disgruntled psychologist.
He was 28 but the character was intended to be older which is why his make up was done in a way to make him look as justed as possible.
The only time in the entire film you realize "This guy is a young man" is during the attempted assassination scene.
The Animated Series has one of the few renditions of Joker to show him as he was before becoming the clown prince of crime.
He was a young mobster named Jack Napier (same as the 1989 feature film), henching for a bigger mob boss prior to his fateful incident in the vat of acid that disfigured him and affected his psyche.
Joker has that basis in the crime syndicate that plagues Gotham, and the whole vintage mobster affair that is common in film noir is important to establishing the Joker. That's not limited to the Joker, a large number of Batman's rogues gallery will have lots of hired thugs that Batman has to work through before he can get to the ringleader.
Further, the Joker is commonly depicted as being inadvertently created by Batman, as Batman becomes active before Joker ever does.
The point is that a properly executed Joker is a seasoned character. OP's picture depicts a Joker fanboy that would probably get himself killed by accident or by enemies on their first night of criming.
If you were to have say, a young-criminal prodigy though, I'm imagine it would be something more along the lines of the Heath Ledger Joker, who embodied anarchism and making statements.
Joker is usually explored as having a relationship with Batman of seeing "who will kill who first", Joker is playing games and does a lot of his mad shit for his personal enjoyment and hedonism as opposed to any sort of entrepreneurship, sense of justice or committing to an idealogy.
I can see that hedonism in OP's picture, but not any of that cunning or plotting. All I see in OP's picture is trend-chasing and forgetting what the substance of characters like Joker and Harley can be beyond simple aesthetics.
>Why doesn't it have a marvel budget/run time
That is exactly what keeps it from being garbage. Well with dc animated later movies anyways. I liked the red hood movie but I will give you the killing joke movie didn't really feel like it did the comic justice at all. I can't remember what I didn't like about it but I sure remember it leaving a bad taste in my mouth for some reason. That isn't the one where Bruce fricks Barbra and it gives off some serious grooming vibes is it?
DC's problem is how to sell a property founded in 1939 to a current generation far removed from that culture. It becomes increasingly more challenging to sell Batman to newer generations, and you can't appeal to the same aging demographics indefinitely.
Reminds me of that dreadful Saints Row 2022 game though.
Some nobody that is trying to build a comedy/prank "influencer" career and takes it to far. Kind of like the Killing Joke origin but there's no sad wife and failed comedian sad backstory. Just a borderline sociopath that just kept doing worse and worse shit until somehow he takes it too far and falls into a pool of toxins at Ace Chemicals. Maybe Batman is involved. From there he gets disfigured and then arrested and blames Batman and literally everyone but himself for what's happened. And you know, you write it so he's still the Joker but the focus more on Joker as a narcissist entertainer than a clown.
But visually very much a white skinned, green haired, smiling youmg Logan Paul.
he looks exactly like I imagine a modern joker >loser leftist comedian that instead of trooning out just choose society. >still retains the same cringe behavior and dialect.
the game still shit tho
Thin, white face paint and bright green hair dye as opposed to chemical bleached skin, wearing a purple suit (purple hat optional), and tap shoes. Uses custom Tommy gun made to look cartoonish.
Older joker would be that but taller, more larger build, patchwork and ratty suit, fully chemical bleached skin, faded green hair dye. Maybe he’s carrying more gear (knives, laughing gas, custom gun) laughter is more deranged than younger joker, more like screaming than actual laughter.
Anon, not every fricking thing by the woke is a strategic own of us. I fricking hate Sweet Baby and their troony woke obsession too, but you're going to have a harder time playing word police like a fricking dyke mod on a reddit board.
alternate universe joker because some mentally ill hambeast of a writer is self inserting as harley and wants a good guy version of joker to validate their mental illness.
>the same arkham verse with batman
You do realize that the whole game is some multiverse bullshit and not arkham knight, right? They kill "fake" versions of the justice league and all additional playable characters will be pulled through the multiverse.
What, you don't actually care about capeshit and still consumed all the dumbass bait posts on Ganker? Sounds like a you problem
There are 3 Killer Frosts and none are like Livewire. Livewire is an attention prostitute mischief maker who, admittedly, has moments of reason. Killer Frost in general can be a complete psycho.
Assault on Arkham, the ORIGINAL and superior used to be canon Suicide Squad to this universe, even had a Killer Frost
There are 3 more seasons silhouetted in a picture when you beat the campaign. One of them is alt-Mr Freeze or Mrs Freeze. The other two I haven't figured out yet but it should be easy to guess.
I think the leaks say it's Mrs Freeze, Deadshot's daughter, and Deadshot in the last season (yes, the one fricking character everyone actually likes and makes perfect sense for this game won't come until much much later)
>So you think we're in for another Avengers situation?
There's no doubt about it >How long until they decide to cease production?
I give it 6 months tops. They MIGHT release one round of DLC, but after that, they'll throw in the towel
Killer Frost doesn't hate men, she just naturally is annoyed by Captain Boomerang (who isn't?). In fact the original, Crystal Frost, was obsessed in banging Firestorm
>wanting KF in this game just shooting
Oh I know the core gameplay is stupid. Merely talking characters here
The backstory of the first Killer Frost is all about hating men because the man she loved was a gay. The second one carried the torch just to avenge the original.
That's nowhere near the same thing or an apt comparison. Killer Croc naturally is better leaning on the human side because he's supposed to be a man with a skin condition who slowly loses his humanity. Rudy aka Parasite is a mutant thanks to unstable chemicals. The mouth is just for design, as we all know physical touch is how Rudy feeds
I still love Terry's reaction to Joker returning. The man fought Inque (black goo that can form any weapon instantly and almost drowned as she forced her way in this throat) and Blight (walking nuclear reactor) and was just starting his crime fighting career.
Laughs in old Bruce's face about him. Ohhhh, a guy who terrorizes people with whoopy cushions and squirting flowers. I'm terrified.
It's because Terry sort of picks up on Bruce's stoicism working with him and realized the Joker depends on having a "tough crowd" because Batman has no sense of humor and your gothamite normie is never going to understand the comedy of injustice.
The moment Joker kept calling Terry Batfake was the moment he exposed his weakness. Terry is corruptible, he was once corrupt himself as a youth, he is of no interest to the Joker.
So being laughed at and beaten by someone who's supposed to be at the other end of the punchline is the biggest insult possible to Joker. Terry is basically no fun for the Joker.
Blight on the other hand is a better foil for Terry. A completely apathetic business man trying to strong arm the soul of the city. They should have kept him around a lot longer and held off the exposure arc.
>Don't play the game >Watch a full let's play on Youtube >Read the fan wiki >Become a thorough expert in the game >Participate in discussions about the game on Ganker as if I've played it, with everyone none the wiser
EVER SINCE I WAS A YOUNG BOY I PLAYED THE SILVER BALL
does that even matter? Joker isn't a specific person, so someone else can become Joker for the sake of plot. That's one of the reasons Batman doesn't kill him or let anyone else kill him.
>Joker isn't a specific person
Except he is an specific, unidentified person in the main DC timeline (and Arkhamverse). Even that shitty Three Jokers comic had one of them be the actual Joker while the others were just people he duped.
i honestly can't understand how people can get so invested in DC or Marvel comics.
multiple writers with multiverse shit means literally nothing matters. and if you find some kind of canon, it gets rebooted every 4-5 years.
>most books stick to self-contained stories that ignore all of that nonsense
yeah, but what's the point of these then? there are no stakes at all in these stories. >omg Batman actually lost Robin and now has to deal with that trauma? i wonder how that will shape the character
it won't, because it never comes up again, because it's just stand alone/elseworld shit
>yeah, but what's the point of these then? there are no stakes at all in these stories.
What are you talking about? YES, they do. You're choosing to disregard them because you are more concerned about what's happening outside of the book.
Comics are a collection of dogshit stories with multiple writers stepping on each others toes but then a few good stories are hand selected to be in cartoons or movies and everyone considers this "good".
The western comic book industry is literally chimpanzees with a type writer.
Theres a league of braniacs from different universes and one of them mind controls arkham batman. The Joker is from another universe where there is a different Braniac. The plot of the shitty live service DLC is going to be going to different universes to stop the other Brainiacs.
>"Hey let's make Toyman a shop vendor!" >"Cool! Should we use the maniac/creepy supervillain everyone likes?" >"Nah, let's use the obscure seldom used Japanese kid genius version no one cares about"
As a comicgay that normally likes literal whos, this was the worst possible choice
he looks like he’s smiling for his mom to take a pic before he goes out to halloween
i know heath’s joker was regarded as ultra kino by all normalgaykind, but do we really have to re-invent the joker for every fricking adaptation of batman ever since?
Seeing Superman's model in the game further reminds me how we've been robbed of a great Superman game experience. Imagine a "Bizarro Mode" where you can trash Metropolis after you spend the main game playing the big blue boyscout playing it safe
>dat zoomer frame
is that why you're all incels?

Young Joker is just not a great idea in general
I know, obviously the point of the Joker is there was a guy who lived a life and then got destroyed by "something" and returned as the Joker, something that narratively does not work well for a young man.

You can tell when someone only watches the movies...
there should not be a “young joker”
Make Joker a young girl
Unironically Indian Joker with less vibrant clothes.
I'd make it Joker's nephew that's trying to impress his uncle
I'd also have Joker there at the same time and have him try to help his nephew in some kind of buddy cop style story except they're villains
I would use the MK11 design
You'd have to make him less happy/funny. The joker's whole deal is that his experiences have led him to such extremes of cynicism that it's hopped over to life not just being a joke, but a funny one. this goes so hard, especially for the deedee twins and that slice'n'dicer on the left
Voice actors can carry a character well. It's unfortunate they never really struck gold with people outside of Joker, Harley and arguably Mr. Freeze

The Killing Joke has a lot of great stuff going for it.
The 2016 animated adaptation was seriously poor though.

alternate universe joker because some mentally ill hambeast of a writer is self inserting as harley and wants a good guy version of joker to validate their mental illness.
>the same arkham verse with batman
You do realize that the whole game is some multiverse bullshit and not arkham knight, right? They kill "fake" versions of the justice league and all additional playable characters will be pulled through the multiverse.
What, you don't actually care about capeshit and still consumed all the dumbass bait posts on Ganker? Sounds like a you problem
Bad bait
DAMAGED

>has a fake leg
>cuts off his pantsleg to show the fake leg
>fake leg has no combat relevance
>it's there and shown off purely for ESG
Thanks, sweet baby.
What the frick is that voice?

>Elseworlds
This shit really annoys me for no good reason
>I'm going to have to move back in with her after the studio shut down because the game flopped!
Post the webm, you know the one.
The new Joker is masking his insecurities
good morning xirs
This is unironically a more nuanced version of Joker.
Highly underrated. Still trumps Ledgers to this day, but few are brave enough to admit it.
This was one of the best versions of the Joker of all time. Right?
>Hamills last roll
all downhill
It's Da Junkler Baby!
This DLC lineup sucks ass
>Play as MRS Freeze
>Not Killer Frost
It's ice Livewire.
Did they show them all already?
There are 3 more seasons silhouetted in a picture when you beat the campaign. One of them is alt-Mr Freeze or Mrs Freeze. The other two I haven't figured out yet but it should be easy to guess.
I think the leaks say it's Mrs Freeze, Deadshot's daughter, and Deadshot in the last season (yes, the one fricking character everyone actually likes and makes perfect sense for this game won't come until much much later)
isn't deadshot already in the game?
Anon meant to say Deathstroke
>jokes in the game push that deadshot and deathstroke are interchangeable
>Anon mix them up unironically while talking the dlc
it's a lady in a mr freeze suit, dunno if its nora or a "victoria freeze".
>Mrs Freeze
Wait, you mean that really stupid concept of Nora becoming some sort of Lazarus Pit fire demon thing?
i doubt they'll even sale enough to justify releasing the dlc characters.
So you think we're in for another Avengers situation? How long until they decide to cease production?
>So you think we're in for another Avengers situation?
There's no doubt about it
>How long until they decide to cease production?
I give it 6 months tops. They MIGHT release one round of DLC, but after that, they'll throw in the towel
before we fight the last brainiac for sure
>Killer Frost
she killed millions
>Le man hating serial killer
Killer Frost is kind of cringe.
She had a cute romance with the human version of King Shark in that movie though.
Killer Frost doesn't hate men, she just naturally is annoyed by Captain Boomerang (who isn't?). In fact the original, Crystal Frost, was obsessed in banging Firestorm
Oh I know the core gameplay is stupid. Merely talking characters here
The backstory of the first Killer Frost is all about hating men because the man she loved was a gay. The second one carried the torch just to avenge the original.
gayget you are meant to want to stick your man meat between her legs and not care about anything else, what the frick are you on about?
What's the point if she'll kill me for being a man?
>wanting KF in this game just shooting
shit character for coomers
>the dress on the Brave and the Bold version
Now thats the good shit.
Holy crap they literally got indian jokah?
This entire premise is flawed. I can name half a dozen bad guys Waller could have strong armed or bought off to take this mission.
Parasite designs that give him a leech face miss the point.
No they don't? That's arguably more thematic. You're just used to the no face.
Being an energy parasite does not mean you start turning into a dinosaur or a leech. It's almost as bad as actual crocodile man Killer Croc.
That's nowhere near the same thing or an apt comparison. Killer Croc naturally is better leaning on the human side because he's supposed to be a man with a skin condition who slowly loses his humanity. Rudy aka Parasite is a mutant thanks to unstable chemicals. The mouth is just for design, as we all know physical touch is how Rudy feeds
it's gotta be the microplastics
I still love Terry's reaction to Joker returning. The man fought Inque (black goo that can form any weapon instantly and almost drowned as she forced her way in this throat) and Blight (walking nuclear reactor) and was just starting his crime fighting career.
Laughs in old Bruce's face about him. Ohhhh, a guy who terrorizes people with whoopy cushions and squirting flowers. I'm terrified.
On one hand i would hand i would fricking love Arkham Beyond, but in this day and age? I know they would just frick it up
They missed the opportunity.
Imagine a whole game of Will Friedle and Kevin Conroy going back and fourth over radio coms. Would have been kino.
>Saving, please don't turn off your console

Female logic
And women will soon learn that rejecting decent guys leads to them checking out and civilization collapsing.

NEVER MAKE IT AS A WISEMAN
Why is there a new joker? Isn't old joker already long dead in arkhamverse?
Black person look through the thread before posting.
>how can there be another version of a character in a DC story?
Why are you so fricking moronic? Ever heard of a multi-verse?
does that even matter? Joker isn't a specific person, so someone else can become Joker for the sake of plot. That's one of the reasons Batman doesn't kill him or let anyone else kill him.
>Joker isn't a specific person
Except he is an specific, unidentified person in the main DC timeline (and Arkhamverse). Even that shitty Three Jokers comic had one of them be the actual Joker while the others were just people he duped.
That's what I'm saying. Batman is Bruce Wayne. Joker is ???. He isn't a specific identified person with a defined history.
>He isn't a specific identified person with a defined history.
He is ever since DC decided Killing Joke was 95% canon.
We Live In A Society Gamers Rise Up
i honestly can't understand how people can get so invested in DC or Marvel comics.
multiple writers with multiverse shit means literally nothing matters. and if you find some kind of canon, it gets rebooted every 4-5 years.
Because outside of events most books stick to self-contained stories that ignore all of that nonsense
>most books stick to self-contained stories that ignore all of that nonsense
yeah, but what's the point of these then? there are no stakes at all in these stories.
>omg Batman actually lost Robin and now has to deal with that trauma? i wonder how that will shape the character
it won't, because it never comes up again, because it's just stand alone/elseworld shit
>yeah, but what's the point of these then? there are no stakes at all in these stories.
The western comic book industry is literally chimpanzees with a type writer.
>when you consume too much of the cum chalice and realise society
> Everybody's talking about DC nerd shit
>watched Batman TAS
>watched Superman TAS
is there any good DC or justice league cartoon series actually worth watching?
DCAU Justice League and Justice League Unlimited.
Justice League and Unlimited
Batman the Brave and the Bold
Green Lantern TAS
Some of Young Justice
justice League action
Justice leauge unlimited is fricking kino
But you have to watch justice leauge first. Season 2 of JL is actualy really great, but season 1 is a drag
can someone explain why this joker is different from the Arkham games, but the batman here is the batman from the Arkham games?
Alternate universe comic book nonsense
time is convoluted
Theres a league of braniacs from different universes and one of them mind controls arkham batman. The Joker is from another universe where there is a different Braniac. The plot of the shitty live service DLC is going to be going to different universes to stop the other Brainiacs.
that’s literally just a plotline from invincible. nu-writers are so gay
If this Joker is anything to go off I can't wait to see how pozzed the alternate universe superheroes are.
I haven't played the games since Arkham City, but
the original Joker dies at the end of Arkham City. This joker looks like a copycat incel to me.
i’m da jokah, baby
>we want the TikTok audience
I'm just lurking the thread to talk DC characters, and further show how terrible this game is given the material they're pissing away.
Example; under a different context for a Suicide Squad game, a character like Sportsmaster would be both creative and fun
>"Hey let's make Toyman a shop vendor!"
>"Cool! Should we use the maniac/creepy supervillain everyone likes?"
>"Nah, let's use the obscure seldom used Japanese kid genius version no one cares about"
As a comicgay that normally likes literal whos, this was the worst possible choice
I recently rewatched Public Enemies and wished he would come back. Monkey's paw I guess.
he looks like he’s smiling for his mom to take a pic before he goes out to halloween
i know heath’s joker was regarded as ultra kino by all normalgaykind, but do we really have to re-invent the joker for every fricking adaptation of batman ever since?
Seeing Superman's model in the game further reminds me how we've been robbed of a great Superman game experience. Imagine a "Bizarro Mode" where you can trash Metropolis after you spend the main game playing the big blue boyscout playing it safe
>You got any games on your phone?
Where's my Flash game, WB?
How much money did Rocksteady lose?
JUST CANCEL IT ALREADY FFS!!!
Has anyone gotten physically sick after getting into capeshit and Batman?
The death, fear, and mentally ill characters galore might be affecting me mentally.
Psychology is a running theme in Batman. If you're that sensitive to that subject matter, maybe best to refrain.
These themes have never bothered me until I got into capeshit.
I'm so fricking sick of the Joker. Can we just move on from him already?
it's da jokah bay bee
CUZ I'M ALL MESSED UP
CUZ I'M ALL MESSED UP
