Greatsword has gotten less and less fun as each generation of games has become less about waiting for that one perfect safespot to land your big attack.
It just feels boring and spammy now; may as well play LS.
Games are not balanced around 0,1% of its playerbase. Most players wouldnt want to play an weapon that require almost perfect timing to land a good hit.
oh wow you got me sister! second most
that definitely supports your argument of "most players"

It wasnt me, idiot. And as i said : GS is popular because it evolved its playstyle to fit the faster combat/monsters MH has now. If we had the old giga slow GS with Mhtri/4U/Rise monsters, most people wouldnt want to play it.
i don't know if it's shitposting or if people genuinely don't understand this, but the player wasn't the only thing that got faster and zoomier in Rise, it was also the monsters, who now regularly fly across the map thrice in a matter of seconds and spam AoEs like crazy
You can do everything that other weapons can do (except counter) and you can make a bunch of different builds with it. You can also continuously trap a monster without sheathing to keep the damage going.
unironically the comfiest weapon in rise
you have both blunt and slash damage
you stun just as much as hammer
good mobility and lots of iframes
not a fan of the IB version though. too reliant on perfect rush and the bash combo feels like shit
I used it for awhile because I like sword and board, plus when I first started MH I hated slow weapons and wanted to actually be able to move. I moved on to CB though.
>wife in academia >Japanese colleague of hers over in our country for sabbatical with his wife >Invite them for Christmas dinner >Subject of games comes up >Wife talks about how we play mohun together >Colleague goes "my son works on monster hunter games at capcom
Certainly the biggest "hold up what" moments of my life. It shouldn't be a big deal I guess since I have friends that work at blizzard, Bethesda and a few other companies, but I guess it kind of is, since I don't know anyone in any Japanese companies
I still have PTSD
NOBODY wanted to help me clear his final quest online so I had to do it myself and nearly timed out after weeks of attempts
What a god awful monster fricking piece of shit
Slow, heavy, massive damage. I dont like Rise's GS. I started with rise and only touched the BD and LS. After trying P3RD and FU's GS, I went to try it in rise and its fricking annoying.
it just feels like Im taking significantly longer to kill shit. I think its just the low mobility + reloading that makes me feel like Im going too slow
No idea really how they fricked with it in Rise, I know you can do some weird flying shit, but in World it's all about performing the same combo cycles and getting it into a steady rhythm. If you can learn how to continuously chain full-burst blasts on the monster you'll destroy them pretty quickly. As far as mobility goes, you just want to slap on max evade-extender gems and accept that you move through side-step dashes in a small area and block whatever you can't dodge. I barely put my weapon away unless the monster moves very far, even medium distances I'll try to just clear with the charge move, you don't want to see it as a weapon you walk with. Forward+Y is the lance charge move I believe, that's the only thing you need for movement, if you're trying to escape then pull up your shield and block their shit then put it away and run afterwards.
That’s because Gunlance is dogshit and is a meme Ganker pushed to trick you into using it. They hope you get so mad you quit the game. It’s a form of gatekeeping
I've tried every weapon, but the game just doesn't feel right unless I'm on Gunlance hope we at least keep Blast Dash and Eruption Cannon in Wilds, the rest don't mind losing
You can switch between Quick Reload (all shells, no wyrmstake) or Guard Reload (only refreshes some shells, but also refreshes stake and has a guard attached while active) Rise lets you swap between one or the other
Rise/Sunbreak has "Switch Skills" that lets you change some commands
Gunlance can change out Charged Shells for Blast Dash, or Wyrmstake for Eruption Cannon, or Quick Reload for Guard Reload, etc
In Sunbreak, you can even have both sets in one hunt and swap between them in combat using a button combination I forget
it look complex at first and is braindead stupid once you get the charge phial into SAED combo
it's also satisfying to use
good weapon ruined by circlejerking morons thinking they're smart and poor balance
Guard points mean you can more easily stay on the monster’s ass at all times and even punish their bigger openings with powerful explosions.
The two separate modes let you adjust your playstyle on the fly to keep the fight comfortable. The whole thing ends up feeling like a dance when you really learn the fight and weapon.
It's clearly a weapon for good people who are both skilled and intelligent.
You can tell because the people that hate it are always a total fricking moron and act as unlikable as possible.
maybe saying nothing in rise is a bit too far, yeah
firing pins and axe hopper are enjoyable
but coming from iceborne CB I did not enjoy rise CB very much in comparison, ended up putting it down since I just wasn't having fun with it
same
sns on the other hand though
*chefs kiss*
easily my favorite weapon in any mh, and right after it comes sunbreaks' GS
I hate how the gutted the hitstop during TCS but surge slash and rage slash are fricking amazing. strongarm can go frick itself.
strongarm can be funny but I could not play it as the main playstyle, its so bland once you've done it for a couple hunts
If you like surge slash elemental, have you tried Aerial elemental? its really funny to just pogo jump off the monster's head over and over
5 months ago
Anonymous
aerial? I only played sns/gs/sa/cb in rise. i dont remember aerial, is it IG?
Anonymous
nah, Aerial GS I mean - centered around Hunting Edge spam, the move that shoots you upwards and if you connect with a monster you bounce off it and can do a charged aerial downthrust
5 months ago
Anonymous
oh, I didnt spam it but I did enjoy using it
honestly gs, sa and sns are so much fun in rise. my only caveat really is the counter and iframe spam.
Anonymous
ah, there's a pretty funny aerial variant build where you get all your elemental skills and wirebug recovery skills and spam it - pretty fun for a couple hunts, and amusing to take into hunts with friends
counter spam I enjoyed on LS and I loved having dodgebolt on bow which kinda counts but it was a little too much there on every other weapon - stuff like CPP on CB or SAS kinda take away from the weapons enjoyment to me
5 months ago
Anonymous
yeah I think it made sense on LS and even shoryugeki on sns
but for the others it either clashes with the playstyle, dominates the playstyle, or diminishes the skill ceiling the weapon already had (like guardpoints on CB)
Anonymous
yup, pretty much. I can accept some of them since they have long cooldowns like SA's but for sure I would've overall prefered to keep the counters to stuff like LS/Lance (but keep dodgebolt playing bow without dodgebolt feels like walking through molasses now and the satisfaction of dodging through something like zinogre's slams is peak)
the most important thing about Hammer is your mobility, you can dodge cancel most of your longer moves, and your level 2 charge has lots of range, but it is a weapon that requires decent knowledge of a monster's moveset, or really, how to stay on a monster's ass without getting hit. You NEED to be scoring head hits for KO, or leg hits for the stagger and abusing the period when the monster is recovering
my advice for getting used to hammer >make a set with evade window + evade extender + slugger + attack and stamina management skills it choice >try not to use level 3 charge until you've got an idea of when to use the level 1 & 2 charges (basically to take advantage of small windows) >learn to cancel everything with either a roll or going into charge >if you have a big window, do you big bang combo
unless we're talking about Rise in which case all of this advice goes out the window, and you'll just do blue lvl3 charges and the crater impact wirebug might
>unless we're talking about Rise in which case all of this advice goes out the window, and you'll just do blue lvl3 charges and the crater impact wirebug might
don't listen to this moron. Impact spam hasn't been a thing since SB came out. Use your bugs on Sway, and keep Impact Burst on 24/7 for both strength and courage.
The only time you won't use Sway is using the yo-yo aerial move on floating homosexuals like Amatsu. It's a bad move, but it's good on him in particular since every tic will hit the face.
>rise became just a hack n slash
I can understand liking World more because I do too but it's really obvious when some gay trying to fit in never even played Rise
>but it's really obvious when some gay trying to fit in never even played Rise
?
the game is so much faster, has so much more mobility, and most of the time you can ignore the monsters moveset entirely that is hard to not agree that it is a hack 'n slash title. every weapon has a counter/iframe, every weapon can jump, wirefall, wirebug dashes, palamutes. its a great game but rise and world are completely different games, if not genres.
yeah because 4 or 5 more monsters surely will change the way the game is played

Yes anon they really do, the skills you get from the risen monsters can really change the game and the way you play, especially cham and kush

it doesnt change the fact that 90%+ of the roster can be obliterated by a barrage of attacks non stop with little to no strategy
if I'm on sns I'm either tripping/stunlocking the monster or just phasing through anything remotely dangerous with the whirlwind/shoryugeki silkbinds
and I'm fricking garbage compared to TA trannies.
then again I never said the game was bad, nor that it was easy. I'm not sure why you guys got upset in the first place. all I said is that it is completely different from world

HBG is slow, LBG lets you run around at full speed.

>I'm not sure why you guys got upset in the first place. all I said is that it is completely different from world
Because MonHun threads have been bombarded with RisevsWorld shitposters for years, it's hard for some to parse which is genuine criticism or not
Not your fault, just what the environment has cultivated is all
>and most of the time you can ignore the monsters moveset entirely
lmao you never played the game. You cannot fricking 'ignore' the Risen Elder's movesets and the ONLY monster in World harder than PMal is maybe Fatalis.
I bet you blame the game when you wirebug recover into a punish followup and cart, huh?
Rise "feels" more like traditional MH at first glance because of the quest system and artstyle, along with some other minor things like having two pets and the blood splatter effect. But World actually plays more similarly to MH4U. The wirebug and Palamute are really fricking significant changes, and the weapon movesets in general are more "anime action" along the lines of what was added in GU.
>I want to have fun? Switchaxe >I want to bully the monster? Lance >I have to play ranged? Bow >I wanna be fast? SnS
I have no desire to play anything else
Real question that's been bothering me for awhile, what's the appeal of LBG as opposed to HBG?
My impression of LBG has always been that it's more about statuses and special ammos, while HBG is the king of standard shit like normal and pierce shot.
>I'm not fighting Black personmonkey if I can't run for my life away from him.
if you're playing a gunner class you'll always be far enough away to dodge all of his shit effortlessly
LBG lives and dies by Rapid Fire. Depending on whether you want to be a normal, pierce or spread LBG, you have to use one that has the rapid fire modifier on it. Might be wrong about the current meta, but it used to be that Pierce LBG was damn near broken
GS is the quintessential oldschool monster hunter weapon and you can't prove me wrong >slow >meticulous >you need to think before you act >you need to know your distance better than anyone (other than Hammers) >you need to know your timing better than anyone >you need to actually approach the monster properly before unsheathing
Before MH turned into a game about doing anime backflips while explosions go off in the background, it was a game about chilling in the wilderness, picking herbs and hunting dinosaurs.
whenever i see "slow and methodical" in reference to oldschool monster hunter my immediate assumption is that the poster in question is surgically attached to gs and has not used sns since being forced to start with one
water strike+courage charge was a game changer for me >can finally deal with shit like diablos charges >instantly get to uppercut or golf swing into lvl3
I'm only MR30 and Arank 60 so I don't have a lot of gear options. I think I'll be Str for a while still until I can build a few elemental ones for Courage, but it was fun when I messed around with it
huh, that's something to look into. i guess when i started Rise i was kind of overwhelmed by all the shit they throw at you in terms of systems so i just stuck with strength L3 charge as my preferred way of dealing with monsters. i'm halfway through M5 now, so i guess i should start looking into that, would definitely have made Shagaru Magala easier
they're not wildly different.
Str = hold R2, preferably to C3
Courage=Mash R2, preferably to C3
the difference being you can roll on C1 of courage and water strike into C2 instantly, and Keeping Sway does a lot more for Str than it does Courage but i-frames are never ever bad.
I picked up Lance in Rise and I'm absolutely loving the counter playstyle, but playing it multiplayer feels fricking awful since it's constantly turning around.
it just feels like Im taking significantly longer to kill shit. I think its just the low mobility + reloading that makes me feel like Im going too slow
Get the Blast Dash skill or whatever it's called and learn how to quick reload, as well as what combos you can do that will lead into it. The charge attack

a move that takes over GL so completely it's all you'll do. You'll drop evade ex and guard completely and just spam it all day long.
Need to evade? Reverse Blast
Need to go somewhere? Reverse Blast
Need to attack? Reverse Blast
Honestly, I fricking hate it and swapped to a different weapon but a lot of people like it.
Switch Skill you eventually get
Turns you into Valstrax, in Sunbreak you'll get it as a Silkbind which looks underwhelming at first but is absurdly fun to use (Reverse Blastdash).
Sunbreak GL is insane, and the amount of conversions and adjustments you do to combo into different stuff both otg and in the air is insane
Looks cool, but >Replaces charged shots

lance in base World is the best its ever been and probably will be. Power guarding shit has never been more fun Lance in IB sucks ass thanks to its over-reliance on the clutch claw to do any meaningful damage
You're not good enough to match speedrun strats so max theoretical DPS doesn't really mean shit for you, genuinely go with whatever weapon you pick up and do decent with. Longsword is the most popular weapon choice by far because it's sort of easy to get good at it and you look like an anime swordsman.
>Primordial malzeno >Risen crimson glow valxtrax >Risen shagaru magala
why is MHR such a shit fricking game? Who gave these monsters the okay? I've never seen such concentrated bullshit in a monhun game before.
and their solution to that is to give every single monster endless AoE combos and trickshots and 1 frame strikes that do 70% of your HP even on the lightest tap.
how can Rise be hard and easy at the same time? Who in this thread is lying to me?
Rise got its reputation for being easy from the original release. All monhun games are easy in low+high rank. G/Master rank is where the game gets tough, and in most cases, fricking moronic.
Are you seriously not upgrading your armor?
Not using one of the dozen absurd defensive skills they give you (Berserk, Intrepid Heart, Defiance, Kush Blessing, the Soulseer skill idr its name)
>I've never seen such concentrated bullshit in a monhun game
I'm not even going to post a webm from Frontier which is pure concetrated horseshit (fun)

>When Savage Jho would cause pinning with that lunge
Man what the frick were they thinking with this one? I give P3rd a bunch of shit for botching Tri monsters but 4U pulled equal shit with this one. It also even arbitrarily got rid of Savage Jho's iconic behaviors where it could still aim at the player when flashed and chaining attacks with Dragon Breath
Thats because they're designed around every single weapon in the game having ridiculous Iframe moves and Counters ( Wirebugs ) They're fun fights if you use every tool at your disposal.
What the frick are you talking about? Wirebugs are all attacks and counters where you still take damage, and endgame monsters rape you to death if you try countering half their moves. Stop trying to act tough on an anonymous imageboard.
why do nintendo toddlers get so upity when someone mentions rise? people werent even shitting on it and the entire defense force discord invaded the thread
Why do Worldsperm post pictures of themselves and cry about Rise so much? World is having a big resurgence. I would be thrilled about it and playing it instead of crying about the lesser played on Ganker
Why do Worldsperm post pictures of themselves and cry about Rise so much? World is having a big resurgence. I would be thrilled about it and playing it instead of crying about the lesser played on Ganker
Why is Hammer allowed to move around while charging but not Greatsword? Even something as simple as a slow creep forward would be revolutionary for the weapon.
Anyone here playing 3U. I just got to HR7 and beat Jhen Mohran. Farming up a GS set because Hammer makes the game too easy...
Should I go for GL or Lance? I honestly can't pick
You can already turn around like 90°, now you want to walk? This isn't Arc of Deliverance. GS is consistently top 2 BM weapons in nearly every game, it doesn't need to be Hammer too
Both are excellent weapons in 3U, especially underwater. I like the gunlance in particular because it can easily break Ivory's horns with fixed damage and often carries mind's eye.
as long as no one carts 3 times and a decent killtime is achieved, theres no need for the pushed hbgunner to get the mandatory damage medallion just for existing
>Buy MHW >Neverplayed a monster hunter game >play for like 2 hours >everything feels extremely fricking slow and archaic
jesus christ what the frick
did I get fricking filtered
You did. Monsters get faster later such that your own movements matter more. It's always worth asking people who say it's slow what weapon they were using. What weapon were you using?
If you're not into the rhythmic timing of the swings of the Switch Axe then yeah, it's probably not for you. Make sure you're evade-canceling out of every attack with a long delay to regain control as soon as possible. Still, you might be interested in something like the Sword and Shield, as it's got the fastest input-to-attack delay of any weapon, outside of a specific shield attack that automatically attacks twice.
world >slow, methodical gameplay that makes use of monster behaviour and positioning knowledge
rise >bing bing wahoo around the arena and when slightly threatened press the special button with iframes and counter out of the ass >if that doesnt work just wirefall and instantly heal with a high potion
What to do when I mount a monster? I just try to keep hitting it, brace or move when displayed until the final thrust, but I see some people ramming then onto walls, what should I do?
So there's mounting/riding the monster where you basically just manage to land on top of it and get to button-mash damage and then do a big finisher to stun it while playing a balance minigame to stay on top. Then there's clutch-claw grabbing which is how they slam monsters in walls. They'll be immune to this when enraged, as seen by their little yellow symbol on the minimap turning red, but when it's yellow you can smack them in the side of the head to turn them, and then blast their skull with all your slinger ammo to force them into the wall. You have buttons for all of this and should be able to see what to press if you still have that part of the hud enabled.
Is it okay to perform the normal mounting process of filling the gauge to knock the monster down, or should the mounter always transition into a wallbang if possible?
They're two separate systems, at least in world, haven't touched rise. In World, it's the mounting system if all the other party members give the automated response, and the only thing you can do is try to stay on and knock them down. Clutch-claw is more hanging off on the side of them, if they're not enraged then any punches to the side of their face forces them to turn and you should absolutely smash them into a wall ASAP.
Praying for Extreme Lance
Just let me replace the Wide smack with the vertical thrust. Oh, give me weapon length too holy shit weapon length is soo fun on lance
>backstep
noob, we've been using counterthrust since we first got it
I gladly welcome the risk reward replacement for counter that is instant block. It's the greatest thing that everyone you're playing with hears the sound effect too.
The Kittenator, which is a small portable Dragonator. It's not a support move you can give it directly, as it's a special application of the Lottery Box support move.
I liked the new HH then they gutted its MVs because those 'buffs' are worth 40% of your personal DPS according to Capcom and I laughed my way back to hammer.
I play a lot of solo as well as in groups.
of course, the fact that it takes setup still allows recital to have its uses as a damage source but it's still a shame especially with the addition of the fricking awesome but utterly useless echo wave song
The echo waves are pretty useful tbh, a pretty strong wake up, can follow up with the echo wave if you get a flinch while slapping the monster with neutral performance and it makes the backwards encore combo even stronger.
New to world, starting to have some trouble, so, when I die, my max health becomes very low because I lose the meal buff, what can I use to have decent health and stamina? Is it easily farmable?
Max potions will put your health back to meal-level, cooked meat/rations will do the same for stamina. Ancient potions will put both to max. You can farm all crafting ingredients from the big tree thing back at base, do their quests as you progress and you'll be able to farm more things from them. It's very easy and "time" based, they grow as fast as you complete any hunt. You can also usually get the handler to cook you a meal at camp, you'll see some stump chairs to sit at and open up the meal prompt.
It's weird how Capcom put a literally impossible monster in the game. I wonder why they did that. Was it to ensure the addicts had a Sisyphean task that would occupy their attention until the next game came out, was it an artistic statement on the futility of challenging God or was it just an elaborate prank on the playerbase?
Alatreon in World killed my friends. We did the whole game together, but they got filtered by Alatreon and stopped playing. I took on Fatalis without them. It was lonely.
I mean, the first kill should ALWAYS be solo, Multiplayer makes the fights too easy and chaotic. Whoever fought and beat fatalis for the first time in multiplayer missed the kino of spending hours practicing and reaching the last phase for the first time when proof of a hero starts playing. Pure unadulterated kino.
>did solo fatalis pre-fatalis gear and refused to "farm drops" to craft some fatalis parts to beat it
infinitely more satisfying then what everyone ""recommended""
I still havent faced fatalis and alatreon because I think they're not fights you're supposed to win without failing first, and so far I got a perfect fight record in IB and sunbreak, never failed a single quest for the first time
Friendly reminder that if you didnt beat fatalis solo + without fatalis gear + No SA ZSD spam you didnt beat the game. The true kino of beating fatalis for the first time can only be achieved if you meet these requirements.
Absolute dogshit opinions. The game is supposed to be multiplayer, it's built around multiplayer and teamwork. The lore is all about full teams of four. The devs have repeatedly hid information and instructions specifically to force players to talk to each other, it's 100% supposed to be played with friends. The kino true experience is working your way up the entire way through the game and iceborne with the same three friends.
There is no teamplay involved in MH multiplayer at all, multiplayer trivialize 99% of the fights because it turns the monster into a loot pinnata. You're just a shitter.
The game literally has a unity bar on your guild card. Before that there was the friendship bar. You're supposed to play with people, that's the whole thing. The game is perfectly plaable singleplayer, but that's not the intention.

First kill should always be solo. Multiplayer should be used when you want to turn your brain off to farm mats. If you dont do your first kill solo you're a shitter.
The kino MH experiences come when you push yourself to the limit and win by the skin of your teeth. That doesn't happen in multiplayer when you're locking down monsters in a group of 4.
I especially love when they made the game (designed for multiplayer all the way through) have moronic unskippable cutscenes in story missions that force your friends to have to join you after playing the cutscene where you find the monster instead of just being able to all play it together from the beginning and watch the cutscene
please cuckcom, just do a quick remaster of the old games already. i hate world, i hate rising, i hate wilds. just like me play FU at higher res with better optimization
what's the most braindead, basic b***h weapon to use? Don't want to think about much other than the monster during hunts, and I don't want to be fighting my weapon while trying to do damage
A lot of people pick up DBs and spam Demon Dance which locks them into the animation and then they eat absolute shit from the monster. That or they don't manage their stamina well and never have enough to roll out of the way.
if by basic b***h you mean jack of all trades bland weapon, sword and shield
if by basic b***h you mean what every tard on the planet uses, dual blade/greatsword/longsword/heavy bowgun
charge blade is not as braindead because it takes a small amount of practice to get down but once you do its a broken unga bunga tardspam weapon
As much as liked Rise's areas it was shitty that they had two tropical forests. If they would have remade a region they should have remade Ancestral Steppe
but imagine underwater combat if we could actually move well underwater
like what if the mount in wilds can also go underwater and it gives us underwater mobility
I liked it.
Fighting Gobul for the first time and watching that bastard charge at me with its mouth wide open was the best. It only got better after that.

MILES better, I remember every single sound from 3rd gen, meanwhile I don't remember a single sound from World or Rice
I hate that I joined late and felt like I needed to rush through all the monsters to catch up. I hope that I can take the next game slow and farm monsters for armour sets and make anti builds for each monster I go up against.
When I picked LBG I was cool I'm going to be switching between lots of different ammos and being high IQ. Then I play it and I'm like why would I fire 12 paralyze bullets for a 2second stun when I could just use 12 normal bullets and deal more damage.
Somnacanth is probably the shittiest monster they've released recently. I don't know of any monster that is as boring as Somnacanth.
I hope it never comes back.
Surprised they never added an event quest with a higher drop rate for attack/expert honestly
especially once the fatalis update was out, feels like it should've been a no brainer
I had a similar thing with Sunbreak, I thought that in tu6 they would add a quiro armor augment method that would let us actively choose the augments at a higher resource cost
I thought this because of stuff like vigor melding and skills+ being a thing

You guys told me the Clutch Claw was shit because it led to giga inflated health bars, but no one warned me it sucked ass because monsters continually knock you off of unrelated monster parts because of them doing their frame one "walk forward slightly faster than normal" attack, which coincidentally causes you to take double the normal damage and triple the normal stun buildup.
i hate it because of how fricking clunky it feels trying to very clearly claw the head or arms and it either missing outright or hitting an entirely different body part i obviously didnt hit
>try to tenderize a monster's leg or head >magnetizes to the wing even if the wing never came close to either the leg OR head
I have enough fellwings I don't need to hit that shit anymore frick off
if it didn't take infinite amounts of stamina to move around the monster when you claw the wrong part at least you could've just made your way there eventually
Friendly reminder that if you didnt beat fatalis solo + without fatalis gear + No SA ZSD spam you didnt beat the game. The true kino of beating fatalis for the first time can only be achieved if you meet these requirements.
so are non-elemental CBs straight up bad compared to elemental ones? I was gonna use like a blast one for general use until I farm up the elemental CBs
depends on the playstyle and game - in world SAED is better with impact/blast and savage is better with elemental, but in rise I think elemental is straight up better
you can still make a blast build though
>Next gen exclusive with no PC release
I couldn't be angrier. I'm not paying $500 for one game. I hope it's open-world slop and tanks the franchise.
shit bait, we already know its releasing for PC, and likely simultaneously
>thinking my palico did anything other than instantly die as soon as fatalis looked in its general direction
fricker refused to even load canonballs for me at the start, just ran around doing nothing
i cant bring myself to hate the safi'jiiva fight despite gacha and raid mechanics simply because i still lose my shit everytime he goes supercritical and the theme clashes between proof of a hero and his own theme
it just fricking rules
Safi fights.
IDK what Im doing I'll just keep hitting it..
Part break, Part break, Part break, Part break. Safi leaves...
Fight again
Part break, Par- Dead. Huh.
All in all, he's a pretty lame fight, but his gear looks sick.
I'm the type of homie that plays monster hunter freedom on PPSSPP and I'm actually having a lot of fun even if grinding for materials to progress is AIDS and the farm requires way too many clicks
But it was satisfying as frick to just make the pink Yan Kut Ku look like a fool by blinding him with bombs and setting up timed bombs right under his ass when he actually filtered me and killed me repeately when I first played the game
>Older games: Non-specialized ammo that ricochets, resulting in high damage. >World: Ammo made with high-quality gunpowder. Each shot packs considerable punch.
Rise: High-quality gunpowder ammo. Single-shot, but fast and impactful.
Huh. What do you know?

Man, does anyone else think Iceborne is a 4/10 game? All these shitty reskins, ugly monsters (brach), clutch claw, garbage grind, massive binary "slot this to win" matchups.
I feel no joy meeting new monsters because they all play out the same way thanks to the CC. If I get a good latch and my character isn't sucked into the hindleg or tail, then I just start infinite stagger chaining any fight. Seeing an elder dragon stumble back drooling like a little b***h is also annoying. Sunbreak honestly was infinitely more fun to try out new weapons/playstyles/builds and at least kept me playing up till Primordial Malzeno. I don't even want to think about using the clutch claw again.
Sunbreak has better build variety due to they amount of unique skills, most of them viable, World suffered from Fatty gear being way too good to pass on and elemental being way too shit to care. Both are still 8/10 games anyway, just mod the CC out of world
And also the variety of Sunbreak monsters. IB suffers from clutch claw making every fight play out nearly the same, no matter if you swap weapons or such, clutch claw will be there.
Almudron, Aknosom, Astalos, Basarios, Bishaten, Chameleos, Crabs, Espinas, Garangolm, Goss Harag, Mizutsune, Malzeno, Narwa, Valstrax, Magnamalo, etc. There were so many more unique monster skeletons and models to fight again, despite IB and SB having close to the same amount of overall monsters. This on top of switch skills, build variety, etc.
I got like 500 hours in Rise on Switch and wanna get it for PC but I don't want to collect charms and crap all over. How easy is it to mod in charms in the Steam version?
Piss easy; you can also just get this so you get talismans when you hunt hard shit:
https://www.nexusmods.com/monsterhunterrise/mods/1190?tab=description
>130 damage over 25 seconds if the monster is weak to it in a game when monsters can have 20,000 hp
Why is poison just shit and pointless in pretty much every game?
After studying the monsters every move for hours, you'll notice the monster stands still for 3 seconds after a specific attack which is just enough time to get a charged slash in.
After 100 hours of studying, 5 god-tier-roll builds, and 45 attempts later, you sacrifice everything for damage and lock the monster in a flinch state until it's dead. Then record and post it online as if you're big brained.
Also remember to shit on the faster swinging style for no reason at all.
>me and friend hunting a sygian zinogre >joined mid-hunt by a GS user >dies twice >leaves
at least he had the courtesy to frick off after wasting our time and fricking up instead of staying and failing the hunt
It's always been like this. >bow user joins in FU >hunt goes from 10 minutes to 2 minutes >play Tri >bowgun users join >Alatreon goes down sub 2 minutes
Gotcha b***h

big number
big monster big weapons
comfy environements and maps
top tier OST
cute cats, nice looking food
hunting
autist he meant the weapon not the franchise
Big sword
Big damage
Big satisfaction
the monsters are sexy
the desire to kill
Greatsword has gotten less and less fun as each generation of games has become less about waiting for that one perfect safespot to land your big attack.
It just feels boring and spammy now; may as well play LS.
GS had to get faster because the monsters got faster after mhtri, you cant simply have a giga slow weapon when most monsters behave like ADHD zoomers.
but anon a guy did 500 takes for a youtube short where he charge attacks the barioth reskin and gets a KO
Games are not balanced around 0,1% of its playerbase. Most players wouldnt want to play an weapon that require almost perfect timing to land a good hit.
meanwhile GS is the most played melee weapon
Because GS is much more versatile now.
longsword is but go off sis
oh wow you got me sister! second most
that definitely supports your argument of "most players"
It wasnt me, idiot. And as i said : GS is popular because it evolved its playstyle to fit the faster combat/monsters MH has now. If we had the old giga slow GS with Mhtri/4U/Rise monsters, most people wouldnt want to play it.
i don't know if it's shitposting or if people genuinely don't understand this, but the player wasn't the only thing that got faster and zoomier in Rise, it was also the monsters, who now regularly fly across the map thrice in a matter of seconds and spam AoEs like crazy
>get to G-rank toaster in Rise
>he has a 5 hit combo now
man frick 5th gen
Kushala Daora M5 carted me twice in the first 5 mins of the fight. i still beat it, but what the frick, man.
kushala in rise is such a better monster its unreal
in world its the most unfun shit ever designed
the people who post that shit bailed out in TU2 and have never fought Primordial Malz
Explain the appeal
I can smash faces and cut tails
I can helicopter and not contribute anything to the party
I can make more dps with it than you any day.
Insect glaive has the highest DPS vs Kulve Taroth and is the most reliable head breaker against Fatalis
I was mostly shitting on people who only use IG for the coptor attack and never mount
It has the most utility and the most playstyles of all weapons
You can do everything that other weapons can do (except counter) and you can make a bunch of different builds with it. You can also continuously trap a monster without sheathing to keep the damage going.
unironically the comfiest weapon in rise
you have both blunt and slash damage
you stun just as much as hammer
good mobility and lots of iframes
not a fan of the IB version though. too reliant on perfect rush and the bash combo feels like shit
A classic and dignified choice for a noble hero/hunter
Not gonna be so noble and dignified once I get to that canteen, let me tell you bro!
Grabbing the Master Bang and Legendary Bang versions just for the innuendos.
25 iframes on backhop (basically a free evasion+5 move)
40*
is that sunbreak?
yes
I would be all over sword and shield if I could hold the sword in the right hand.
Eh, I just look at it like a "I can beat you so easily I don't even need to use my dominant hand" flex.
I used it for awhile because I like sword and board, plus when I first started MH I hated slow weapons and wanted to actually be able to move. I moved on to CB though.
I just like it
That’s probably because you’re gayer than a PlayStation parade. We all know real men use Huntin Horn

Certainly the biggest "hold up what" moments of my life. It shouldn't be a big deal I guess since I have friends that work at blizzard, Bethesda and a few other companies, but I guess it kind of is, since I don't know anyone in any Japanese companies
Should've ask for a tour anon baka
That would be overstepping I think. He doesn't work there, his son does. His son doesn't know me. Also, I don't live in Japan.

I still have PTSD
NOBODY wanted to help me clear his final quest online so I had to do it myself and nearly timed out after weeks of attempts
What a god awful monster fricking piece of shit
I love rage slash so much. I use it more than TCS now.
Slow, heavy, massive damage. I dont like Rise's GS. I started with rise and only touched the BD and LS. After trying P3RD and FU's GS, I went to try it in rise and its fricking annoying.
GUNLANCE GUNLANCE
GUNLANCE
GUNLANCE GUNLANCE GUNLANCE
>new monhun comes out
>decide Ill try to get into gunlance
>get pissed off about halfway through
>swap to longsword
What part of using it is giving you grief?
it just feels like Im taking significantly longer to kill shit.
I once tried gunlance in Generations. I got turned off so much I dropped the game.
That’s because Gunlance is dogshit and is a meme Ganker pushed to trick you into using it. They hope you get so mad you quit the game. It’s a form of gatekeeping
why would anyone willingly choose to use any weapon that isn't gunlance
I've tried every weapon, but the game just doesn't feel right unless I'm on Gunlance
hope we at least keep Blast Dash and Eruption Cannon in Wilds, the rest don't mind losing
I'd take Guard Reload over Blast Dash
Guard Reload is basically a 100% gain on Wide in all situations, so yeah, why not, I'd take that too
>on Wide
NOOOO STOP YOU CAN"T JUST USE THE GUN PART OF THE GUNLANCE YOU HAVE TO DO MELEE YOU'RE PLAYING WRONG
>Implying both playstyles wouldn't use a GP
Dumbasss
slaplance is a thing
And?
You can Reload after a slap to save your ass
frick that, its a boom stick, I'm gonna explode shit
>Oh god, I'm gonna BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM
How did reloading change in Rise? Can you still do the quick terminator 2/stagecoach swing reload or do you have to do the slow reload only now?
It has both
You can switch between Quick Reload (all shells, no wyrmstake) or Guard Reload (only refreshes some shells, but also refreshes stake and has a guard attached while active) Rise lets you swap between one or the other
When you say swap, do you mean you can do both in-combat, or is it something you select and adjust pre-hunt?
Rise/Sunbreak has "Switch Skills" that lets you change some commands
Gunlance can change out Charged Shells for Blast Dash, or Wyrmstake for Eruption Cannon, or Quick Reload for Guard Reload, etc
In Sunbreak, you can even have both sets in one hunt and swap between them in combat using a button combination I forget
you can toggle out 2 sets of switch skills mid combat in sunbreak
GS has 1 attack but requires the most knowledge about the monster.
it makes my pp a big pp.
What's the appeal
overpowered slop for pseuds who think stopping to do busywork constantly is skillful play
charge blade has never been overpowered, you're a shitter
just because you're bad with it doesn't mean its underpowered, tardie
The weapon has never been overpowered
thought out mechanics and best animations
bloodborne
it look complex at first and is braindead stupid once you get the charge phial into SAED combo
it's also satisfying to use
good weapon ruined by circlejerking morons thinking they're smart and poor balance
You can tell because the people that hate it are always a total fricking moron and act as unlikable as possible.
guard points + SAED + Savage Axe in World
Nothing in Rise, CPP existing and CSS being a shitty savage axe ruined it for me
>Nothing in Rise
Firing pins is fun though
maybe saying nothing in rise is a bit too far, yeah
firing pins and axe hopper are enjoyable
but coming from iceborne CB I did not enjoy rise CB very much in comparison, ended up putting it down since I just wasn't having fun with it
same
sns on the other hand though
*chefs kiss*
easily my favorite weapon in any mh, and right after it comes sunbreaks' GS
I hate how the gutted the hitstop during TCS but surge slash and rage slash are fricking amazing. strongarm can go frick itself.
strongarm can be funny but I could not play it as the main playstyle, its so bland once you've done it for a couple hunts
If you like surge slash elemental, have you tried Aerial elemental? its really funny to just pogo jump off the monster's head over and over
aerial? I only played sns/gs/sa/cb in rise. i dont remember aerial, is it IG?
nah, Aerial GS I mean - centered around Hunting Edge spam, the move that shoots you upwards and if you connect with a monster you bounce off it and can do a charged aerial downthrust
oh, I didnt spam it but I did enjoy using it
honestly gs, sa and sns are so much fun in rise. my only caveat really is the counter and iframe spam.
ah, there's a pretty funny aerial variant build where you get all your elemental skills and wirebug recovery skills and spam it - pretty fun for a couple hunts, and amusing to take into hunts with friends
counter spam I enjoyed on LS and I loved having dodgebolt on bow which kinda counts but it was a little too much there on every other weapon - stuff like CPP on CB or SAS kinda take away from the weapons enjoyment to me
yeah I think it made sense on LS and even shoryugeki on sns
but for the others it either clashes with the playstyle, dominates the playstyle, or diminishes the skill ceiling the weapon already had (like guardpoints on CB)
yup, pretty much. I can accept some of them since they have long cooldowns like SA's but for sure I would've overall prefered to keep the counters to stuff like LS/Lance (but keep dodgebolt playing bow without dodgebolt feels like walking through molasses now and the satisfaction of dodging through something like zinogre's slams is peak)
pic related: best weapon
correct
Cannot for the life of me get the feel for hammers
the most important thing about Hammer is your mobility, you can dodge cancel most of your longer moves, and your level 2 charge has lots of range, but it is a weapon that requires decent knowledge of a monster's moveset, or really, how to stay on a monster's ass without getting hit. You NEED to be scoring head hits for KO, or leg hits for the stagger and abusing the period when the monster is recovering
my advice for getting used to hammer
>make a set with evade window + evade extender + slugger + attack and stamina management skills it choice
>try not to use level 3 charge until you've got an idea of when to use the level 1 & 2 charges (basically to take advantage of small windows)
>learn to cancel everything with either a roll or going into charge
>if you have a big window, do you big bang combo
unless we're talking about Rise in which case all of this advice goes out the window, and you'll just do blue lvl3 charges and the crater impact wirebug might
>unless we're talking about Rise in which case all of this advice goes out the window, and you'll just do blue lvl3 charges and the crater impact wirebug might
don't listen to this moron.
Play hammer in Monster Hunter
Play Boost Hammer in God Eater
simple as
>that feel when you knock out the monster for the third time that hunt
>interrupting the LSlet's anime soul combo and causing him to miss a slash
stay out of my lane, sharpies.
HAHAHAHAHAHAH
BONK BONK BONK
HAHAHAHAHAHAH
BONK BONK BONK
Which game plays more like traditional Monster Hunter, World Iceborne or Rise Sunbreak?
Rise
worlds, rise became just a hack n slash
>rise became just a hack n slash
I can understand liking World more because I do too but it's really obvious when some gay trying to fit in never even played Rise
>but it's really obvious when some gay trying to fit in never even played Rise
?
the game is so much faster, has so much more mobility, and most of the time you can ignore the monsters moveset entirely that is hard to not agree that it is a hack 'n slash title. every weapon has a counter/iframe, every weapon can jump, wirefall, wirebug dashes, palamutes. its a great game but rise and world are completely different games, if not genres.
>40 MR
You didnt even reach the real end game yet, anon.
yeah because 4 or 5 more monsters surely will change the way the game is played
Yes anon they really do, the skills you get from the risen monsters can really change the game and the way you play, especially cham and kush
it doesnt change the fact that 90%+ of the roster can be obliterated by a barrage of attacks non stop with little to no strategy
if I'm on sns I'm either tripping/stunlocking the monster or just phasing through anything remotely dangerous with the whirlwind/shoryugeki silkbinds
and I'm fricking garbage compared to TA trannies.
then again I never said the game was bad, nor that it was easy. I'm not sure why you guys got upset in the first place. all I said is that it is completely different from world
Are you fighting afflicted monsters or the normal version, because yeah the normal version is easier but give investigations a go
If you intend on being a sour grape play something else then
>If you intend on being a sour grape play something else then
already am, I just downloaded world after 3 years. I'm sure wilds will be closer to it so its the one I'll practice on
That's fine then
>Bro you can ignore the monsters entite moveset lel!!1
>That's stupid, of course you can't. The skills you mention only give you a short amount of invincibility or armor. In fact, hyperarmor is an absolute killer once you reach further in as monsters start doing way more damage than what you can survive or heal back.
>NUH UH I DIDN'T SAY NO NOTHIN'
huh?
name 10 monsters that will hit me through 100 frames of invincibility on windmill.
well first off you're a shitter for not using Metsu and your damage is dogshit before we've done anything else but ANY monster with a followup, so all the Elders, Rajang, Tigrex, you know, it would be easier to name ones that DON'T have multi hit followups
Anything that combos a second attack after the first??
Remember when HBG used to be able to walk around at full speed? Crazy times
Remember when HBG could SPRINT? Dark times
in that case I'll just backhop then. theres no reason to disengage anything or ever sheathe my weapon
its just unga bunga until hes dead
>backhops wing stab
>gets instant killed by second wingstab during the recovery
nothing personnel, sword and shitter
>I'm not sure why you guys got upset in the first place. all I said is that it is completely different from world
Because MonHun threads have been bombarded with RisevsWorld shitposters for years, it's hard for some to parse which is genuine criticism or not
Not your fault, just what the environment has cultivated is all
>and most of the time you can ignore the monsters moveset entirely
lmao you never played the game. You cannot fricking 'ignore' the Risen Elder's movesets and the ONLY monster in World harder than PMal is maybe Fatalis.
I bet you blame the game when you wirebug recover into a punish followup and cart, huh?
gee anon you're embarrassing yourself. cant you read that I said most of the time? not shit you cant ignore some of them! I said as much you moron!
>hack n slash
always been it's the core of the series whether like or not , even World outside the scripted shit in the story just like the others.
World
Rise for the quest system and material automation
World for combat mechanics
Rise "feels" more like traditional MH at first glance because of the quest system and artstyle, along with some other minor things like having two pets and the blood splatter effect. But World actually plays more similarly to MH4U. The wirebug and Palamute are really fricking significant changes, and the weapon movesets in general are more "anime action" along the lines of what was added in GU.
P3rd did the East/Japanese theme better.
Agreed.
is it normal to be rock hard after watching this?
yes
The feminine urge to wield impossibly heavy weapons
>I want to have fun? Switchaxe
>I want to bully the monster? Lance
>I have to play ranged? Bow
>I wanna be fast? SnS
I have no desire to play anything else
Real question that's been bothering me for awhile, what's the appeal of LBG as opposed to HBG?
My impression of LBG has always been that it's more about statuses and special ammos, while HBG is the king of standard shit like normal and pierce shot.
HBG is slow, LBG lets you run around at full speed.
I'm not fighting Black personmonkey if I can't run for my life away from him.
Used to be like that, but now the only difference is that one has a shield and shit rolls, and the other has rapid fires and moves fast.
Just got to anomaly rank 241.
I'm so sick of this stupid grindy shit. I'm so ready for this to be over.
Join special investigation lobbies, they level you up crazy fast
By 241 you can join any investigation no matter the level iirc
I hope wilds returns to world's hunting horn moveset. Easily my favorite out of the games I played (4U -> present day)
Komitsu and Yomogi sex
Frick-off. MH Is not a pedophile game, its a monster fricker game.
Making 30 kids with Yomogi
Gay sex with lagiacrus.
imho chichae is more breedable with her cute chubby cheeks and innocent baby face
tell that to B team (who makes the best games)
GS is the quintessential oldschool monster hunter weapon and you can't prove me wrong
>slow
>meticulous
>you need to think before you act
>you need to know your distance better than anyone (other than Hammers)
>you need to know your timing better than anyone
>you need to actually approach the monster properly before unsheathing
Before MH turned into a game about doing anime backflips while explosions go off in the background, it was a game about chilling in the wilderness, picking herbs and hunting dinosaurs.
Greatsword is the symbol of that time.
whenever i see "slow and methodical" in reference to oldschool monster hunter my immediate assumption is that the poster in question is surgically attached to gs and has not used sns since being forced to start with one
Me hit big dinosaur with big sword
dinosaur die
me get new cool looking sword
go hunt stronger monster
What's the best weapon to run against Alatreon? I main GL and CB but I struggle to do big continous elemental damage. Am I just bad?
if you're solo just go full unga with fortify and ignore the ele check.
I'm a hammer gay so he has nothing I couldn't water strike
i'm a hammergay as well, though i literally only use the basic strength switch skills
water strike+courage charge was a game changer for me
>can finally deal with shit like diablos charges
>instantly get to uppercut or golf swing into lvl3
I'm only MR30 and Arank 60 so I don't have a lot of gear options. I think I'll be Str for a while still until I can build a few elemental ones for Courage, but it was fun when I messed around with it
huh, that's something to look into. i guess when i started Rise i was kind of overwhelmed by all the shit they throw at you in terms of systems so i just stuck with strength L3 charge as my preferred way of dealing with monsters. i'm halfway through M5 now, so i guess i should start looking into that, would definitely have made Shagaru Magala easier
they're not wildly different.
Str = hold R2, preferably to C3
Courage=Mash R2, preferably to C3
the difference being you can roll on C1 of courage and water strike into C2 instantly, and Keeping Sway does a lot more for Str than it does Courage but i-frames are never ever bad.
I play with one buddy who mains Hammer
SnS and CB punk him way too hard
Like, SnS just blows his ass sideways
I started to struggle a bit with SA when I got to Nergigante, then I gave Lance a try and everything has been so easy since
I picked up Lance in Rise and I'm absolutely loving the counter playstyle, but playing it multiplayer feels fricking awful since it's constantly turning around.
Get the Blast Dash skill or whatever it's called and learn how to quick reload, as well as what combos you can do that will lead into it. The charge attack
mentions is far less effective in Rise.
I'm
, what the frick is a blast dash
a move that takes over GL so completely it's all you'll do.
Looks cool, but
>Replaces charged shots
So long shelling got iced? What the frick
The opposite actually, once you get to sunbreak you'll see why
Need to evade? Aerial glaive jump
Need to go somewhere? Aerial glaive jump
Need to attack? Aerial glaive jump
I miss GU's aerial glaive
?t=146
Switch Skill you eventually get
Turns you into Valstrax, in Sunbreak you'll get it as a Silkbind which looks underwhelming at first but is absurdly fun to use (Reverse Blastdash).
Sunbreak GL is insane, and the amount of conversions and adjustments you do to combo into different stuff both otg and in the air is insane
why did you shorten on the ground bot not in the air
becausa "ita" looked dumb, like it's a typo of "its"
Just don't play multiplayer, then.
lance in base World is the best its ever been and probably will be. Power guarding shit has never been more fun
Lance in IB sucks ass thanks to its over-reliance on the clutch claw to do any meaningful damage
what do my main weapons say about me as a person, Ganker?
Explosions
ME LIKE BIG NUMBERS
Are you excited?
Yes, and i love all the porn that the new mount spawned.
very
as long as they don't fall for the open world meme, yes
>Next gen exclusive with no PC release
I couldn't be angrier. I'm not paying $500 for one game. I hope it's open-world slop and tanks the franchise.
?
there better be a sphinx flagship/elder
I’m sick of getting called a noob or a vanilla lover only because I like the Longsword!
I have only played MH World
I have 600 hunts with lance and around 40 with Gun Lance
Frick all other weapons
And you have 6,000 hours of play time in high rank alone since it takes 30 hours to kill anything with Lance.
what is the "best" weapon in world? got the game recently and I like the light bow gun but I hate how long it takes for me to kill something.
HBG/bow
really? I tried the bow but it doesn't cut tails off but I haven't tried the HBG outside the arena since its so heavy
The one you like the best
You're not good enough to match speedrun strats so max theoretical DPS doesn't really mean shit for you, genuinely go with whatever weapon you pick up and do decent with. Longsword is the most popular weapon choice by far because it's sort of easy to get good at it and you look like an anime swordsman.
Why did you leave out the part when LS caused MtF transitioning as well?
>Primordial malzeno
>Risen crimson glow valxtrax
>Risen shagaru magala
why is MHR such a shit fricking game? Who gave these monsters the okay? I've never seen such concentrated bullshit in a monhun game before.
but Anon Rise is so easy and you just button mash and you'll beat them
and their solution to that is to give every single monster endless AoE combos and trickshots and 1 frame strikes that do 70% of your HP even on the lightest tap.
Rise got its reputation for being easy from the original release. All monhun games are easy in low+high rank. G/Master rank is where the game gets tough, and in most cases, fricking moronic.
Are you seriously not upgrading your armor?
Not using one of the dozen absurd defensive skills they give you (Berserk, Intrepid Heart, Defiance, Kush Blessing, the Soulseer skill idr its name)
modern action rpgs all have to be hardslop in the post fromsoft gaming world
how can Rise be hard and easy at the same time? Who in this thread is lying to me?
>I've never seen such concentrated bullshit in a monhun game
I'm not even going to post a webm from Frontier which is pure concetrated horseshit (fun)
Here's GU
should've used the fence switch :^)
>When Savage Jho would cause pinning with that lunge
Man what the frick were they thinking with this one? I give P3rd a bunch of shit for botching Tri monsters but 4U pulled equal shit with this one. It also even arbitrarily got rid of Savage Jho's iconic behaviors where it could still aim at the player when flashed and chaining attacks with Dragon Breath
Primordial malzeno and crimson glow are two of the best fights of the franchise and i'm a MHWorld defender.
MHW Fatalis > Primordial malzeno > Crimson glow.
Going back to World made me upset because Malzeno wasn't in it.
That fight has absolutely no business being as fun as it is.
couldn't agree more, malzeno and primordial are insanely fun fights
Skill issue, unironically.
I can beat them, but that doesn't make dodging 200 AoE combos consecutively fun.
Stop trying to act tough on an anonymous imageboard.
>endgame monsters rape you to death if you try countering half their moves
This is Monster Hunter yes
I killed both using SA and spamming the counter + ZSD like a moron. Some weapons have very powerful counters and wirebug moves.
why do nintendo toddlers get so upity when someone mentions rise? people werent even shitting on it and the entire defense force discord invaded the thread
Why do Worldsperm post pictures of themselves and cry about Rise so much? World is having a big resurgence. I would be thrilled about it and playing it instead of crying about the lesser played on Ganker
now say that again without shitting your pants
Why do Worldsperm post pictures of themselves and cry about Rise so much? World is having a big resurgence. I would be thrilled about it and playing it instead of crying about the lesser played on Ganker
you got ruined, mate
Why is Hammer allowed to move around while charging but not Greatsword? Even something as simple as a slow creep forward would be revolutionary for the weapon.
Because hanmer doesn't hit quite as hard, has a limited reach, and can't cut tails.
I miss when hammer was the king of melee DPS
I want them to bring back the damage done commendation. Frick you, I want to know I carried the party and I want them to know it too.
Leaning this series more into metahomosexualry, difficulty wanking, and competitive autism is exactly the opposite direction it should be taking
I am the alpha hunter and I will be recognized as such.
>implying anyone but sweaties cares
>implying they stop caring just because they didn't get a cheevo
as long as no one carts 3 times and a decent killtime is achieved, theres no need for the pushed hbgunner to get the mandatory damage medallion just for existing
>Buy MHW
>Neverplayed a monster hunter game
>play for like 2 hours
>everything feels extremely fricking slow and archaic
jesus christ what the frick
did I get fricking filtered
>did I get fricking filtered
Basically, yeah
You did. Monsters get faster later such that your own movements matter more. It's always worth asking people who say it's slow what weapon they were using. What weapon were you using?
Switch axe, I guess? It's the axe that turns into a sword
I guess not every game's for everyone
that weapon is on the slower side
you should start with something like sns/insect glaive
just read the weapon tutorials beforehand
If you're not into the rhythmic timing of the swings of the Switch Axe then yeah, it's probably not for you. Make sure you're evade-canceling out of every attack with a long delay to regain control as soon as possible. Still, you might be interested in something like the Sword and Shield, as it's got the fastest input-to-attack delay of any weapon, outside of a specific shield attack that automatically attacks twice.
world
>slow, methodical gameplay that makes use of monster behaviour and positioning knowledge
rise
>bing bing wahoo around the arena and when slightly threatened press the special button with iframes and counter out of the ass
>if that doesnt work just wirefall and instantly heal with a high potion
Frontier clears these two
>been away from world for a long time
>played on PS4 previously
>Install on PC
>constant unskippable cutscenes
>incredibly slow first hours
I'm convinced people genuinely forget how fricking gay the game is up until at least High Rank.
you also had to start story quests solo, when playing with your friends.
even the older games managed to just show every hunter in each cutscene
I charge the sword
I swing the sword
B I N G O
>fall from 300 feet
>take no dmg
>monster puts its foot down 5 feet away from you
>lose half your hp
slop
>he takes fall damage
look at this fricking baby loooool
That's pretty cool I didn't know that, will try to play around with this, thanks
LanceGODS where we at???
Remember when this used to be a pipedream
Praying for Extreme Lance
Just let me replace the Wide smack with the vertical thrust. Oh, give me weapon length too holy shit weapon length is soo fun on lance
I just want it on Lance, tbh. It only ever mattered on it and GS
Lance better fricking have cool moves in Wilds or I'm gunna take every chance I get to piss on the "anti-anime" crowd. Lancing has never been so good.
>Lance isn't doing poke poke poke backstep poke poke poke anymore
Soulless
>backstep
noob, we've been using counterthrust since we first got it
I gladly welcome the risk reward replacement for counter that is instant block. It's the greatest thing that everyone you're playing with hears the sound effect too.
I really want some kind of basic overhead "slam" move for breaking parts and potential stuns. Like something you can do at the end of a combo.
>Baby Gundam
That homosexual kept kicking me when I was joining random hunts
Frick that c**t
...I couldn't take it anymore bros...I switched to LBG
What's that felyne move where they set up a lance thing that auto knockdowns monsters in MHR?
The Kittenator, which is a small portable Dragonator. It's not a support move you can give it directly, as it's a special application of the Lottery Box support move.
Thanks, it looks very useful.
Explain the sex appeal
I liked the new HH then they gutted its MVs because those 'buffs' are worth 40% of your personal DPS according to Capcom and I laughed my way back to hammer.
I play a lot of solo as well as in groups.
Ass kicking power of music
Rise ruined it.
Good thing I'm not touching Rice.
Risebreak fixed it tho
she buff on my horn til i hunt
YEEEEOUCH!!
lost
world > IB horn
echo note was a good addition but making it the best source of damage was moronic
Yes the spin is strong but not really a move that you spam unless the monster is down or the opening is long enough.
of course, the fact that it takes setup still allows recital to have its uses as a damage source but it's still a shame especially with the addition of the fricking awesome but utterly useless echo wave song
Ancient potions will max out your health and stamina bars, very useful to have. Hard to make early on but endgame you'll be swimming in them.
Malzeno Blanco
Crazy how all the Gunner Silkbinds suck ass.
Woow Capcom, another timed buff. Noo I love it you shouldn't have...
Gunners don't deserve anything good.
being able to actually plant your wyvernblasts on the monster is pretty nice
It's weird how Capcom put a literally impossible monster in the game. I wonder why they did that. Was it to ensure the addicts had a Sisyphean task that would occupy their attention until the next game came out, was it an artistic statement on the futility of challenging God or was it just an elaborate prank on the playerbase?
>edits in the parts
guess i win, shitter lizard
I still havent faced fatalis and alatreon because I think they're not fights you're supposed to win without failing first, and so far I got a perfect fight record in IB and sunbreak, never failed a single quest for the first time
If you really don't want to lose then join a lobby, randoms are always trap clear parties
nah I do everything solo
I just dont want my ego to be crushed when I got so far without doing so
If you don't fail you don't learn, simple as
Fatty especially is difficult not because of him but the timer
Absolute dogshit opinions. The game is supposed to be multiplayer, it's built around multiplayer and teamwork. The lore is all about full teams of four. The devs have repeatedly hid information and instructions specifically to force players to talk to each other, it's 100% supposed to be played with friends. The kino true experience is working your way up the entire way through the game and iceborne with the same three friends.
>The devs have repeatedly hid information and instructions specifically to force players to talk to each other
When did they do this?
MH1
There is no teamplay involved in MH multiplayer at all, multiplayer trivialize 99% of the fights because it turns the monster into a loot pinnata. You're just a shitter.
The game literally has a unity bar on your guild card. Before that there was the friendship bar. You're supposed to play with people, that's the whole thing. The game is perfectly plaable singleplayer, but that's not the intention.
First kill should always be solo. Multiplayer should be used when you want to turn your brain off to farm mats. If you dont do your first kill solo you're a shitter.
>The game is supposed to be multiplayer, it's built around multiplayer and teamwork.
so fricking true
Lol... Lmao even. And yes, the same shit happens in the classic games but its less obnoxious because less visual effects + slower gameplay.
Don't bother trying to reason with these autists
The kino MH experiences come when you push yourself to the limit and win by the skin of your teeth. That doesn't happen in multiplayer when you're locking down monsters in a group of 4.
I especially love when they made the game (designed for multiplayer all the way through) have moronic unskippable cutscenes in story missions that force your friends to have to join you after playing the cutscene where you find the monster instead of just being able to all play it together from the beginning and watch the cutscene
How is he impossible?
I couldn't imagine doing this b***h solo.
Those people are stronger than I.
please cuckcom, just do a quick remaster of the old games already. i hate world, i hate rising, i hate wilds. just like me play FU at higher res with better optimization
>FU aspie hates everything but his stale first MH
everytime
Get with the times
Nothing will ever top Valor GS in GenU. Surge Slash in Sunbreak is also a decent honorable mention.
what's the most braindead, basic b***h weapon to use? Don't want to think about much other than the monster during hunts, and I don't want to be fighting my weapon while trying to do damage
Longsword but you, the monster, and the hunt deserves better.
GS is peak braindead, prefect for you
You need good timing and positioning for GS
>run up to monster
>press X
>roll and sheathe
>rinse repeat
DBs
Longsword but nobody will respect you. Dual Blades if you want to also constantly cart as well.
I never understood how anyone carts with DB when the weapon is just damage and iframes
A lot of people pick up DBs and spam Demon Dance which locks them into the animation and then they eat absolute shit from the monster. That or they don't manage their stamina well and never have enough to roll out of the way.
SnS. Everything you could ever want in a weapon with 0 gimmicks.
>B-b-b-but Perfect Rush spam
I said ZERO GIMMICKS.
if by basic b***h you mean jack of all trades bland weapon, sword and shield
if by basic b***h you mean what every tard on the planet uses, dual blade/greatsword/longsword/heavy bowgun
charge blade is not as braindead because it takes a small amount of practice to get down but once you do its a broken unga bunga tardspam weapon
>heavy bowgun
Everyone uses LBG now
Ancestral Steppe was peak comfy. The leaves blowing in the wind, the endless plains, it was great.
Pretty but mogged by the über SOVL tropical island aesthetics of Tri/3U, just like all the other MHs
As much as liked Rise's areas it was shitty that they had two tropical forests. If they would have remade a region they should have remade Ancestral Steppe
rise could never
so much sovl
STOP! (collaborate and listen...)
Post weapon designs across the games you really like!
I miss him
Lagi weapons my beloved...
I am literally going to kill someone if Lagiacrus is not in Wilds.
I miss him
>Lagi is back
>Leviathans are back
>underwater combat is back
I'd pre-order day one, if that was the case.
Leviathans are probably back since they got them to work pretty well in Rise and Wilds is using the same engine apparently as Rise.
Underwater combat was fricking shite mate
but imagine underwater combat if we could actually move well underwater
like what if the mount in wilds can also go underwater and it gives us underwater mobility
I liked it.
Fighting Gobul for the first time and watching that bastard charge at me with its mouth wide open was the best. It only got better after that.
Filtered by apex SOVL, many such cases. Sad!
>tri was the first game i saw as a kid on some advert in a book
>thought the image of hunters going after lagi underwater was cool as frick but forgot about it after
>never played monhun until world (got filtered by 4u demo)
goddamn i have to return and play this shit
>Rise re-adds leviathans
>doesn't bring back Lagi and *clack* *clack* instead making shitty nu-mons that are just offshoots
'ate it
Real shame that Rise/SB didnt have fully upgraded Seregios weapons
i just really like that shade of purple
Claw DBs are the best
agreed, im glad ruiner nergi does the same thing
Big Boner guest appearance in the top left
And Gigginox, bring back the nuns
Damn, I was just looking at Gigginox and remembered how much I loved that set.
I love the agnaktor accordion horn
loved how deviant misutzune's CB had that sick eye glow
>deviant gear sets
still upset we didn't get them in rise
>greatsword
>its an axe
Gotta be my all time favorite MH weapon
I've always loved all the bug armour. Shame the stats were always shit.
What set is this?
P.Malzeno
Ah okay, that makes sense. I haven't gotten there yet in Rise.
Also the Magia Crescent
oldgen sound design is just better. There, I said it.
Deviants in GU sounded like Kaiju and it was kickass. The Apexes in Rise (and by extension their base forms) sound like pussy shit
>oldgen sound design is just better
MILES better, I remember every single sound from 3rd gen, meanwhile I don't remember a single sound from World or Rice
I still hear the item gather sound in my head whenever I pick something up in Rise/World
Old world Rajang roar shakes my soul
I can't go back to any other ammo type after using sticky. It's just the fricking best option in all cases.
Sticky ammo taught me how to craft fast in the middle of fights
I had no idea you could do that at first I was using farcaster to go back to camp. Being able to slide reload and craft at the same time is great.
>World bowguns
Shove some sticky in your mouth
Sunbreak really broke it's legs it's really sad
I hate that I joined late and felt like I needed to rush through all the monsters to catch up. I hope that I can take the next game slow and farm monsters for armour sets and make anti builds for each monster I go up against.
Don't rush it, every game is meant to be taken at its own pace
Wilds will be different enough from World anyway so that it'll be somewhat new
You've probably got around 1.5 years before wilds comes out, don't rush it
I refuse to equip any other armor than alloy
>equipping armor
>getting hit
Lance is the thinking man's weapon
I have 100 ways to poke which ones will I choose for this situation
i tried to get into gunlance since i wanted a guard weapon and realized that counters are just flat out superior to autistic fireworks
When I picked LBG I was cool I'm going to be switching between lots of different ammos and being high IQ. Then I play it and I'm like why would I fire 12 paralyze bullets for a 2second stun when I could just use 12 normal bullets and deal more damage.
Take the HBGpill
>paralyze monster
>unload with crouching fire
>crouching pierce shots through a setting sun
very satisfying
>pierce
You're not invited to the gunner party
>not enjoying shredding the mile long bosses with pierce
don't think I want to be invited then
Somnacanth is probably the shittiest monster they've released recently. I don't know of any monster that is as boring as Somnacanth.
I hope it never comes back.
Shittier than Jyuratodus?
You leave my beloved Jyuratodus alone
In the older games. Draw slash.
In the new games. I dunno, it's trash counter spam like every other weapon now.
Ok I can sort of accept hunting a monster multiple times for parts but frick grinding for decos which are stronger than armour pieces.
I just join tempered teostra quests when they pop up, got my 3 attack decos within 20 hunts
>attack decos
Crazy how I didn't get a single one in almost 500 hours of gameplay and then got all 3 I'd need within the next 50 hours
I'm 600 in and I still haven't gotten my expert decos, so RNG had his way with me in the end
I thought this because of stuff like vigor melding and skills+ being a thing
at least they made it slightly easier but it's still shit for sure
I would've been okay with just the charm rng, but the armor rng is so ass to deal with, feels grindy just to be grindy
actually makes me wish for world's deco rng cause at least there I wasn't chasing an unattainable peak
Stop sniffing the DPS glue
can't, I'm an autisitic metagay
it's an issue but in world I could achieve that peak, in rise I just annoyed that it could always be better
i had 300h on ps4 and had 0 attack or crit decos
within 70 hours I got 4 attack and 3 crit decos on pc
i think I got a few login campaigns
I always dump my tickets into the tempered elder quests, still no luck 🙁
Maybe today will be the day
300h on ps4 = 50h of gameplay. You spend more time on the loading screens than playing the game.
yeah. crazy how long we had to wait back then, even more so with base world and that godawful hub
https://www.nexusmods.com/monsterhunterworld/mods/507
mod them all in then, its what I did
You guys told me the Clutch Claw was shit because it led to giga inflated health bars, but no one warned me it sucked ass because monsters continually knock you off of unrelated monster parts because of them doing their frame one "walk forward slightly faster than normal" attack, which coincidentally causes you to take double the normal damage and triple the normal stun buildup.
That's what the staggers are for anon
i hate it because of how fricking clunky it feels trying to very clearly claw the head or arms and it either missing outright or hitting an entirely different body part i obviously didnt hit
>try to tenderize a monster's leg or head
>magnetizes to the wing even if the wing never came close to either the leg OR head
I have enough fellwings I don't need to hit that shit anymore frick off
if it didn't take infinite amounts of stamina to move around the monster when you claw the wrong part at least you could've just made your way there eventually
>you didn't tell me that latching onto the attacking monster would put me in danger
I don't need to explain anything. I have 400h in mhw and only played with gs.
Explain the appeal.
there is none
Used to be the only counter weapon. Now it has no appeal since everything has counters.
Counter roars and stab
Gogmazios weaponry speaks to me

I don't really understand what these actually are or where they come from but I make sure to impale every monster I see with one.
it does a second boom when your gunlance goes boom on it
Right I understand the function of the wyrmstake perfectly but I don't really get what it's supposed to be or where I get them from
>where you get them from
same place bow gets its infinite arrows from I guess
it's a stake with an explosive charge to impale and then epxlose the monster
The guild armour on the wiki looks really fricking cool but it's impossible for me to acquire at my skill level.
Is Steam Deck able to play 3U/4U online at all?
I'm pretty sure you can use the citra specific lobbies yeah
Friendly reminder that if you didnt beat fatalis solo + without fatalis gear + No SA ZSD spam you didnt beat the game. The true kino of beating fatalis for the first time can only be achieved if you meet these requirements.
Friendly reminder that if you didn't play the game with friends, you didn't even PLAY it, much less beat it.
big sword
beeeeeg damage
so are non-elemental CBs straight up bad compared to elemental ones? I was gonna use like a blast one for general use until I farm up the elemental CBs
depends on the playstyle and game - in world SAED is better with impact/blast and savage is better with elemental, but in rise I think elemental is straight up better
you can still make a blast build though
shit bait, we already know its releasing for PC, and likely simultaneously
>hold one button
>beat the hardest content in the game
Do risebabs really?
How come your stamina doesn't go down? Is that how blocking works in this game?
heaven sent
as long as he doesn't get hit it's infinite
See the stamina bar flashing? He's got some effect that's causing stamina not to go down.
>in 45 minutes
lance kino
just like the good old days in fu
>45 minutes
You give Lance chads a bad name.
45 mins is about par for the average Lance player
In MH a fight should never take more than 20 minutes, even 30.
true, but we're talking about Lance players here, they are lucky if they even complete the hunt within the 50 min time limit
I miss those stunlocking days.
Only a true lance chad can last against a monster that long
He lives up to the lancechads ideal, an unmovable wall that pokes back until the monsters skull turns to mush ramming against the shield.
I loved the first few missions because they nailed a feeling of hunting a monster down. I love the levels with all it's wildlife and ecology.
>Claims to beat Fatalis solo
>Brought their palico
You didn't beat it.
>not using your cat
How soulless are you?
>thinking my palico did anything other than instantly die as soon as fatalis looked in its general direction
fricker refused to even load canonballs for me at the start, just ran around doing nothing
i cant bring myself to hate the safi'jiiva fight despite gacha and raid mechanics simply because i still lose my shit everytime he goes supercritical and the theme clashes between proof of a hero and his own theme
it just fricking rules
Cringe
I feel that my biggest gripe with MonHun is that there's a stat check for damage.
>fight Xeno'jiiva
I'm sorry, baby! I know you were just born!!
>fight Safi'jiiva
I want this fricking thing dead
Safi fights.
IDK what Im doing I'll just keep hitting it..
Part break, Part break, Part break, Part break. Safi leaves...
Fight again
Part break, Par- Dead. Huh.
All in all, he's a pretty lame fight, but his gear looks sick.
If you used any weapon other than slinging stone at fatalis you didn't beat the game
>all of these friendless losers SEETHING over them not beating the game
and this is why you don't have friends
This will be hit effects in 2025
homie just turn them down in the settings
Why are games with slow combat just the absolute fricking best?
You're a fossil
HOOOLY FRICK I forgot how much of World is just watching cutscenes. Like this is why every speedrun is 5 hours.
I've never beaten Aletreon. I get one shot in narg armour. It's like fighting Kirin on crack.
You have to solo both Alatreon and Fatalis because the online community are fricking shite.
Kirin just whooped my ass. Going for a HBG sticky build. Thoughts?
Use Normal 3, moron
Nope
Then try the uninstall wizard build
I want to watch that motherfricker fall over and over again and laugh everytime he falls
Isn't Normal 2 better on small monsters?
This isn't old gen.
Normal 3 doesn't ricochet in World
Oh damn. I even played HBG in World a fair bit on launch and I didn't even know that.
I wish I could switch between male and female on the fly in the older games to see what all the armor sets looked like.
>charge blade has never been overpowered
damage numbers: yes or no?
only for testing MV's/new skills, otherwise no.
at this day and age it makes no sense not to put it in
if they didnt ppl would just mod it in, with all the motion values and stuff
big number releases dopamine
Yes
yes but i wouldnt mind not having it at long as the hitstop is meaty, thats the real important part

craftable pickaxes/bug nets: yes or no?
they would just lock being able to mine ore in hr/g rank behind an extra pickaxe grind
Why? All they used to do was break and inventory space isn't an issue anymore. Unless you want
, which serves no purpose besides, again, taking up an inventory slot.
I don't even want to think about using the clutch claw again.
yes tendie, world bad
world good, iceborne bad.
most elders in world are dog shit or I would agree with you
I do, base World was awesome compared to IB
Sunbreak has better build variety due to they amount of unique skills, most of them viable, World suffered from Fatty gear being way too good to pass on and elemental being way too shit to care. Both are still 8/10 games anyway, just mod the CC out of world
>brachydios is an ugly monster
you shut your prostitute mouth you goddamn neckbeard zoomer.
I hate Brachy because its part of the "slime" element they tried. Bullshit element.
bracky IS the slime element. And if you dont find a giant dragon that punches shit with its exploding fists to be awesome then you have no testicles.
The monster and design is fine, just don't make it an element.
Piss easy; you can also just get this so you get talismans when you hunt hard shit:

thanks
>130 damage over 25 seconds if the monster is weak to it in a game when monsters can have 20,000 hp
Why is poison just shit and pointless in pretty much every game?
element and status are garbage all around and in dire need of reworks
I hope Wilds has handlers that are hotter and sexier than my buffbawds, but I'm not sure that's possible
For me it's Guildmarm. Always has been.
lmao
What's wrong, boo?
Nerfing a weak weapon is bad
I keep raping everything in the game with it THOUGHeverbeit? Git gud
Go back your hellhole site
I'm already on Ganker
After studying the monsters every move for hours, you'll notice the monster stands still for 3 seconds after a specific attack which is just enough time to get a charged slash in.
After 100 hours of studying, 5 god-tier-roll builds, and 45 attempts later, you sacrifice everything for damage and lock the monster in a flinch state until it's dead. Then record and post it online as if you're big brained.
Also remember to shit on the faster swinging style for no reason at all.
No... not again..
Its funny how people say GS does great damage, but in my experience, they always just fricking miss and waste everyones time
Quiet! I must concentrate on dying.
>Don't sweat it.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
That last hit should have totally killed you lol
Some form of defender probably proc'd
>not using TCS exclusively
>being alive
>hitting things
what is this BULLSHIT
I miss purple cat. Fast and spastic but so easy to punish and feels good when you do.
My friend and I call Greatsword Greatwhiff because thats all people do when they join.
>me and friend hunting a sygian zinogre
>joined mid-hunt by a GS user
>dies twice
>leaves
at least he had the courtesy to frick off after wasting our time and fricking up instead of staying and failing the hunt
Couldn't have been me. I can die in ways you can't even imagine.
>mfw pierce LBG
honestly feels like cheating, get to annihilate the boss from long range and see any attack coming from a mile away
Want to take the World pill but it's huge compared to RiseBreak
I'll need to finish some games and make room.
I've never played a ranged weapon in a MH game, but I think I will for P3rd. What's the difference between LBG and HBG in the older games?
>3 hbg users join my sos
>monster dies in 2 minutes
why do they think this weapon is acceptable as is
>why is a multiplayer hunt fast?
The game isn't designed around 4 man death squads
Designated crutch weapon. If you want to beat content eventually, play Lance. If you want to beat it without thinking, play HBG in multiplayer.
It's always been like this.
>bow user joins in FU
>hunt goes from 10 minutes to 2 minutes
>play Tri
>bowgun users join
>Alatreon goes down sub 2 minutes
In MH1 it was pretty much a given, but as more weapons opened up I've honestly never went back to it, even if it is quick it's just cheap.
>playing a female
couldnt be me
Remember, sitting in the hot water procs the buff instantly.
What kind of dumbass doesn't bring hot drinks?
>female hunter
Oh, lmao
