If a new player fires an S.O.S, they've already given up learning, otherwise they'd just take the cart and try again. Firing an S.O.S is the MonHan equivalent of saying "Please do this for me, I cannot do it at this moment and am not willing to try until I have improved enough to do it by myself".

I've done S.O.S exactly thrice and all three times I joined a two player lobby. It's just a built in crutch mechanic to help shitters get carried through the game. Almost identical to Souls summons.

Because I have a friend in my group who used that when we were playing World (all worldbabs) and after a week of being stuck at Xeno he dropped the game, all because he didn't learn jack shit due to using defender gear and Xeno apparently was the first monster that took long enough at 3p for him to triple cart before we can clear it. I don't remember if we never cleared it or if I came back with iceborne gear but it doesn't matter, he was done with the game by that point

Honestly, if Capcom wanted to throw a bone to newcomers or make the road to Iceborne easier for veterans switching platforms, they should have just fixed the following.
1) Make all cutscenes skippable
2) Don't force the cutscene restriction on Assigned Quests so that it makes it easier for players to bring a long friends (experienced or also new like them) with them on their road to Iceborne.
Both of these slow the game down significantly. Removing them would have been a true "QoL" update. But no, they wanted everyone to watch the boring ass cutscenes their useless story department worked so hard on to write, voice, animate and edit.

MHW spec. does have a story. It does have MP. It does have crafting/collecting/researching. MHW combat is easy, although I've never played any other games, I'd assume they're even much easier combatwise, because they're all on limited devices, like handhelds n shit.

The loading times are literally 1sec. I have never understood this. In mh world the zones being fully open doesnt add anything meaningful to the game, they tried to improve it in rise by giving you reason to explore map by scattering buffs and usable items (endemic life) across the zones. I feel like if wilds can improve on the rise formula and tune the movement speed we could get the first open zone monhun where it actually makes sense and improves the game. This is because World is several orders of magnitude more popular than any other game in the franchise, ESPECIALLY outside of Japan, meaning that the overwhelmingly vast majority of its audience hasn't touched any of the rest of them. Literally everything short of Fatty, Ala, and AT Velk are 100%, unquestionably easier than any given low rank fight from an old game (barring 3U specifically because they gave everyone an innate 50 defense points for some reason).

The game isn't 99% faceroll easy though. Even high rank already has plenty of monsters with attacks that can one shot players. High Rank is already plenty of challenging for any normal person who hasn't spent 5000 hours in Monster Hunter games. Master Rank is extremely difficult for regular players who aren't ultra sweaty nerds.
If you're going into a fight with enough gear to survive being one shot, you can sprint perpendicular to a monster and use a potion without ever needing to worry about being hit again. There is not a single monster before the post game superbosses that is fast enough to keep up with this. There is never a need to learn a monster's moveset or windows for healing. If someone was unable to figure this out and legitimately struggled to avoid carting, video games probably aren't the hobby for them.

In the process of playing it, I found out that the PS2 games have private servers. If you look up "Monster Hunter Old School" you'll find their discord and all the info you need to play online. I believe the psp games have private servers through a group call "HunsterVerse". And Tri has a private server as well, but I don't know where for that one

Alatreon's DPS check kills you if you fail while anomaly monsters just do a big AOE and you lose the down + exhaustion state. I suspect the "killing you" part is what people were not enchanted with.
The problem with people complaining about Alatreon's elemental dps check is that it is absurdly trivial to reach in solo if you didn't bring the wrong fricking element entirely. ~95% of complaints are multiplayer shitters expecting an easy carry or bringing raging brachy weapons.

it only works because it's the final boss of a game where every single monster is a bundle of twists, so this one being plain comes off as surprising when you first see it

By being found elsewhere in media or being commonly used fantasy creatures such as fire breathing wyverns which Rathalos is one of. I personally really like Rathalos but I like him because he’s a generic fiery wyvern with just enough unique characteristics (poisonous claws, tail clubs and sexual dimorphism) to stand out in the ways that matter most to the franchise, the representation of the biology and ecology of such fantasy creatures. Rathalos might be a kind of creature I’ve seen elsewhere, but never portrayed with such care and detail. It’s the mastery of the craft, not the originality of the concept that shines.

I don’t get it, it’s absolutely not the same mechanic?, Alatreon was awesome, but afflicted monsters exploding in a small radius around them isn’t eschaton judgement. Like, move away homie, it really ain’t so hard.
The only issue is that escaton judgement is an instakill on failure, and even then you can fortify through it in solo/duo to ignore the element gimmick entirely.
i fricking love alatreon. perhaps my favorite iceborne fight but the fight can either be great or garbage depending on your weapon. savage axe upward swing spam was fun. an excuse to finally use elemental chargeblades in axe mode.

I've been doing a fresh SnS playthrough and there's been a lot of awkward co-op with people randomly joining my quests. One time at the very end of a gathering quest before I got my last cactus some guy joins. Another time some level 100 guy showed up and said "Did you bring a trap? This will be fast," when hunting a Great Girros, then told me not to kill the monster so it could be trapped, even though it was a hunting quest. I killed it anyway as he ran to get a trap and he said "good job!" and then logged out afterwards.
5th Gen players are allergic to killing. They're more interested in speed running.

My favorite turnaround so far is people saying World is actually the slowest MH game out of all the MH games.
It's not so much World is easy, it's that World is boring for most of the adventure because the game never truly lets you go until the end. First minute into the game is a cutscene followed by a scripted sequence followed by ANOTHER scripted sequence and all of this happens without giving you a goddamn weapon. From there it's the most on rails Monster Hunter experience ever, fighting monsters that are discounts of previously established monsters (Great Jagras and Dodo are discount Royal Ludroth down to the sprint and roll, Gypceros got chopped into Pukei-Pukei and Tzi-Tzi, Tobi is dumbed down Zinogre which also happened to get dumbed down in Iceborne etc.)
For most of World you don't even feel like a hunter, just a glorified errand boy. One that's apparently so good that nobody else is fit for the job despite the plot saying some of the best hunters were brought in for this entire ordeal. The only time things actually get interesting is when you're able to hunt unabated and mess around with the environment and do end game fights. That's quite a ways away for Monster Hunter to feel like Monster Hunter again, optional content people may or may not want to do when the game is over and done with. Until then it's track, walking segment, kill, track walking segment, scripted cutscene, rinse and repeat.

Not related to MH but related to the post. I had a friend who I got into Nioh 2. Nioh 2 known for being a massive soulsgay filter because it asks you to play in a certain way. Well when you get a guy who doesn't know shit about souls game and how they're supposed to be played, he sat down and learning all the mechanics about ki-pulsing and combos and item usage and had an absolute blast.
So yes I think there is a point where when you get used type of playstyle and expect it to be similar, people get angry and drop games when their ego get crushed. That's what the gap between 5th and older gen is in MH.
That is an absolute god awful comparison. The difference between World and the older games is absolutely not that extreme. It's more like the difference between Demon's Souls and Elden Ring which absolutely do have correlative experiences that will be helpful in playing either. There is nothing inherently different in gameplay between old games and World, nothing. You still do the same shit. It just feels a bit different. A World player is still going to have a massive advantage playing any older games than someone who has never played MH. Souls players struggle with Nioh 2 because Nioh 2 plays absolutely fricking nothing like a Souls game. The 2 are absolutely not comparable, stop lying. If you want to use that logic then old game players would have also struggled with World which they obviously didn't. You can't have it both ways.

I used to play on a 1050 ti with medium settings but i got a 4060 TI 16gb a few months ago and downloaded the HD texture pack that makes the game 100gb and i literally cant tell the difference other than that the game doesn't stay at a stable 144fps anymore

Truth be told we've had these discussions about the differences between mainline and portable games since forever. 4 vs Generations, Tri/3U vs Portable 3rd, I'm sure if you go far enough back there's people championing Dos against Freedom 2/Unite. I just want a new monster hunter game that doesn't have some new only going to show up in that specific game over centralizing bullshit, both Worlds and Rise left a sour taste in my mouth after I realized playing the game like a normal monster hunter game was a fool's errand, its turned into a damn pokemon each game has a new bullshit gimmick style of design I just hate. Base Tri on the Wii actually, I remember being stupidly bad at the game and getting my ass carried to High Ranks by people who actually knew what they were doing took me getting Uragaan gear before I could actually beat the Ratian I needed to progress the village story, It took me getting 4 on the 3ds to actually get good with the Najarala and the Gore Mangalla being my 2 actually get good fights, I remember I basically work Tetsucabra pants the entire playthrough since they gave Torso Up so it made gearing up easier.
If you played any game before World you'd know that having a gaemplay gimmick that only shows up in that specific entry isn't unique to World or Rise and in fact accounts for most entries in the series.
Tri had water fighting but it wasn't this over centralizing bullshit that creeped into every fight typically you were in fact rewarded for forcing a monster out of the Gimmick Terrain with an easier fight on solid ground. 4's Gimmick was the ability to mount monsters it was heavily terrain based for most weapon types with a weapon type having a means to mount on demand being a major plus to said weapon type, mounting also persisted into games after 4 instead of being dropped. Fights in world however revolve around the clutch claw with the core gameplay loop being majorly disrupted by needing the tenderize or abuse the various ways of causing a monster to flinch or otherwise be stunned by it. It would be like if in Tri every area of the map had a deep pool of water in them that if you baited the monster correctly, they would fall into it and drown letting you complete the hunt instantly.
