Blast is a meme, there's frick all reason to use it because switching weapons at camp is a thing. The only time blast or poison are ever good is if they're tacked onto the already best weapons in the game, like with Raging Brachy/Safi in IB before Fatalis.
raging brachy weapons are barely blast weapons. they had like 5 blast tacked on as to prevent it from using elementaless skill, one of the biggest dps increase in that game.

I like how his stance is a mashup between the ordinary flying wyvern stance and the quadrupedal flying wyvern stance, makes him feel unique and he moves unlike any other monster.

Pretty neat and I love that Frontier stuff is finally coming to mainline. Compared to flying wyverns that came after him (both in mainline and Frontier) he’s pretty unremarkable but a solidly designed fight. B.O.B. is cool, Aurorocanth is okay but I think they should've given it more attacks with the exploding frost clouds instead of generic ice breath. Haven't fought the other two but Pyrakna looks interesting, if redundant, and Magmadron looks like a total waste of development time that really should've just been put into Agnaktor.
Overall I think the moronic decision to make 3/4 of them fire element and skip out on Aknosom, Tetranadon and especially Goss Harag drags them all down. Pretty weak line up overall.

Both Gore and Shagala feel very toned down from 4U in earnest. Gore doesn't fricking do his batman spin nearly enough to smack you for not being directly under him, and Shagala's AoE's both are smaller, slower, and less frequent both from direct attacks and when enraged passive. Heck Shagala now has to do -two- separate attacks for the 'T' explosion pattern instead of that being just how the attack worked. It feels like they toned both down for how early they get introduced. Using Shagala before the other elders feels kinda...cheap as a result.
All i'm gonna say is gore is alright but shagauu can suck a bit fat shlong.

One that surprised me most was HH. Think I have seen more today than I have in a decade of playing the games.
I laso use HBG but by no means solo, thse monsters are way too on crack to even try to solo them, Malzeno still shits all over me.

I think im finally going to pick up Rise as my first MH game. I remember a lot of people complaining about the Rampage quest or something like that when it first released. Have those been changed at all or what, should I just not do those?

There's 3 mandatory ones you have to do over the game, then you're done (unless you want solo apex missions that aren't event quests). They've been scrapped entirely for Sunbreak, which is probably for the best. Hopefully they'll use the mechanics to make a decent siege battle on day.
Rampage are a fun gimmick for like a few times, they old old pretty fast imo but theres only like 3 that are actually mandatory and they are all easily soloable so its not really a big deal either way
they're not necessarily awful though, you might like them so dont let people on here sway your opinion, its just that for long time fans of the series they are abit "out there" of what theyd want / expect if you get what i mean, but for a new player you might actually enjoy them more
They're boring and the only way to make them tolerable (by having 4 people) is probably not going to happen nowadays because they're just limited to the Rise base game. However you just really need to do a handful of mandatory story rampages and the rest is only really required if you want to use a specific weapon.
they're a sort of psuedo tower defence horde mode rather than the usual open field boss fights like normal, i think they're fun but outside the 3 they make you do there's no reason to ever do them outside of that now the weapons they give are no longer relevant so i wouldnt worry about them

Honestly I feel like he’s one of the more likely Frontier mons to get into mainline. He’s relatively grounded compared to later stuff, he’s the only Elder Dragon debuting in Frontier that was added before Frontier G (when they got a new designer and the design quality tanked a little), he uses the Kush skeleton, and he has a very easy to implement gimmick that no monsters in mainline have as of yet. The only thing that might be up in the air with him is if they bother to add the magnetised status effect to the game or just rework his megnetism attacks to not rely on the status so much.
Satan and Narwa already had a bunch of suck attacks, just doing that again with magnets would be fine without a status effect

That guy was doomposting, there’s 5 at least in just the first update based on the language they used in the roadmap, the 6 monsters he was referring to are just what was data mined and anyone with a brain knew it was incomplete. It was the same with Iceborne (and seeing as Sunbreak is a G Rank game we can assume that it’s programmed similarly to Iceborne), it didn’t have the data for every update monster in it from the beginning. Base World and Rise did, but you’ve got to remember that the G Rank games have a different director and different key staff to the base games so the way they go about these things is different too.

The series is losing its RPG roots and becomes more arcade-like with each new release, it's too late to stop it, the only way to fix it is to put on a Longsword and go Wex+Crit Boost every game until the meta collapses on itself.

ready it up early, you can hold as long as you have sword gauge which drains slowly
BEFORE the attack connects, press R2 and have the attack intersect with the resulting explosion from that. you have hyperarmor throughout the whole animation so don't be afraid of that, and the timing is very lenient as long as you're getting the attack to intersect.
keep in mind if the attack goes too far over it then it won't count, it has to connect with the explosion you're thrusting forwards.

I'd wager charms were originally devised to increase skill variety. It's probably better on Switch, where you're a lot less likely to have "optimal" charms cheated in.
Though Followers and HP scaling frankly make multiplayer unnecessary anyway, so I don't much care what everyone else is using.
I switched to hammer to try it out for the MR 4 boss and a few hunts into MR 5. It's super fricking fun and while I take longer than my GL, it's mostly because I'm bad with it still. I think I'm going to stick with it, which needs me to go back and craft a bunch of old hammers for the new ones which means I need to farm old mons in low and hi.

Sticky + Slicing can feel can feel pretty lethargic now. Playable when you build for it properly, but it's definitely way behind in terms of damage output. And honestly, it should be since it's "safer" with the amount of KOs you score and the fact you largely ignore hitzones.
sticky and slicing got both a numbers cut and a recoil increase so most sets now need to slot in tuneup silencer to compensate.

I guess the other concession is you can eat for level 4 Dango Bombardier now and slot Teostra Soul or an Exploit deco into any weapon with a level 2 slot, but the bottom line is that you're using something like the Magna LBG/HBG, you're going to what to consider using the other ammo types they can use too.

I've been having a huge amount of fun with Courage Hammer actually, you can maintain a pretty healthy level of aggression with it.
Both HBG and Lance I'd say got buffed pretty well. In turn I'd also say Lance is still behind the curve the hardest.

Anchor rage and Powerguard counters got buffed from 50 to 70, and Anchor Rage buff lasts longer.
I don't think it really needed to be reduced you already barely use wirebugs

Black person nobody does that. Nobody. You distance yourself enough that the first hit misses and the second one hits and without the full combo it's much easier to judge and get right.
The funny thing is when the Sunbreak weapon trailers were released Lancegays were on suicide watch and doomposting like crazy. Complete 180 since then.
Overall improvements to the core attacks go over a lot better than getting railroaded into spamming your special moves because nothing else has any impact
Not really. The weapon still feels like shit, the only people saying it's fixed or that it feels great are the same people who kept insisting in base rise that it was perfectly fine to begin with (ie the people who didn't play the weapon).
Base lance was terrible, sunbreak actually made it playable again because it fixed a bunch of broken skills and buffed everything. Anyone who says it was fine in base rise was a madman.

You get full earplugs/tremor res/wind res from getting all 3 bug buffs so you don't really need any aerial protection shit

Plus if you're going for powder vortex then Teostra Soul rampage deco buffs the damage apparently
For Grounded glaive, blademaster options / Brutal Strike stuff is just fine for Raw. As far as Powder Kinsects go, you can consider Status skills and for Aerial there are plenty of comfy utility options. A lot of it depends on Kinsect choice though. General rule of thumb is:

>Powder for Vortex
>Speed for Aerial
There's some leeway, mostly because the Blunt / Paralysis kinsect actually is a decent secondary option for the Blast Kinsect too, if you're into KO and other stuff.
Speed doesn’t really synergize for aerial, you have to be on the ground to order it to attack. Speed is just assist except it attacks by you doing animation cancel with the attack command instead of automatically

Handicraft is unfortunately massively overvalued by how 5th gen games handle skills. You're better off getting something that already has good sharpness and using Razor Sharp/Master's Touch/Protective Polish instead, they're easier to get and leaves you with more room for other shit.
A lot, but either way you just use final boss lance and call it a day. The sharpness and raw on it is unreal and you don't need deco slots because of it.

He's fun enough but the design of his supernova thing was really flawed, it's an instant wipe in multi if you fail but you can just facetank it solo with Fortify and win easily.

Malzeno's lance and set can definitely carry you to the finally boss, it's what I used.

I don't like that switch skill due to the fact it removes your advancing thrust, but that's still hilarious to see.
You should always be running at least one point of guard up.
I've got two styles, Red is all of my get in basic lance stuff like Spiral Thrust and Counter Guard so I can close the gap, and then shift towards blue for stuff like Advancing Guard and Skyward Thrust so once in I'm able to just stay in and abuse openings for as much high damage as I can. But Lance in general now is just in a far better spot then it was before sunbreak, feels overall good to play.
My setup is different:
>Red: normal block, anchor rage, twin vine
>Blue: insta block, spiral thrust, sheathing retreat
Both use shield charge and guard dash. Red is for defense and getting "set up" with twin vine and anchor rage. Then when the time is right I'll switch to blue for a bit more damage and offensive plays, using sheathing retreat to retreat (duh) if necessary and swap back to red so I can turtle up again.
Most of the time however I stay with red scroll, usually swapping to blue whenever I pick up a third wirebug so I can abuse spiral thrust more.
The AI in the follower quests are probably some of the most competent AI I've played with in a video game. They are genuinely better to hunt with than most pub randoms.
Do they do any fricking damage? I feel like they don't. Honestly I feel like my hunts are LONGER than soloing with them around.

The followers do real damage but they made most of the monsters in those quests super buff for some reason

Teostra was the first roadblock in the game for me. I just couldn't fricking figure him out and it took me 27 min to kill on Hammer. No other monster took anywhere near as long, with most being around 10-15 min.

is guard just as important for lance as guard up is?
1 point of guard up is a must, however you can easily get by with only 3 points of guard. I think it's still the same situation as world where 1, 2, and 4 points of guard are useless so use either 3 or 5.
Pretty much this, Guard's only good at 3, or 5, and this is more because of how Guard effects flinching from blocking attacks then the stam use itself. 1, 2, and 4 doesn't change how 'strong' your guard is, only 3 and 5 do, so you can use 3 and just live with the fact that some attacks will make you slide back a bit/have recoil on guard, or push for 5 so all attacks are fully blocked. Guard-Up only needs a single point as the only difference past that is how much HP do you lose guarding normally unblockable attacks. with a single point it reduces the base damage by 30%, 2 by 50%, and 3 by 70%, but the strength of the guard itself isn't effected. If worried about HP loss, use a cat with the vampire bats, those will keep lance topped off without thinking about it.
Instant block removes need of any guard, only need guard up.
They should really just make guard a 3 point skill at this point, but I guess that would buff other weapons besides lance by too much.

I only fought final boss 4 times to get a gem but we always failed the first round of guns. 2nd round of ballista always felt free and his back blew up real fast. Is it scripted to fail the first round? Could never bust the last thing on his back. Maybe we just suck at using the guns.

If you want to solo endgame hunts and want them to still have a semblance of challenge you gotta play 4u.
EX G crimson fatty is closest to the difficulty of the original in FU.
Same with akantor, ukanlos, goggy boy, etc.
The only real challenge in GU is the deviants because they're designed around the wacky stuff, but even then I didn't really have much difficulty with bloodbath.
The moment you learn to counter his steam explosion the fight is won.
Just play GU with guild style
GU only has the high rank version of Crimson Fatalis
It's also way harder to get stuff like earplugs compared to 4U, since the game is balanced around you having other tools to ignore things like that

Should be possible but you still gotta bring up the second screen if you want to go to the different towns and start expeditions into the everwood.

Yea the new counter is it's best move but it costs two wirebugs to use. And the counter automatically puts you into level 3 TCS so Focus isn't as important as keeping your wirebugs up

Same as any other weapon. You use your filler moveset until you can spam wire bugs again.
I don't really know nor care about the GS meta currently, but full Malzeno is honestly one of my favorite sets to use so far.

It's every 60 seconds. With level 4 Dango Bird Caller I pretty much have 250 health in every single quest thanks to it + a small detour if there are any green birds nearby on the way to the monster
I would use both if not for me wanting to have Master's Touch to avoid sharpening as often.

It really barely makes a difference, give it a go.
It does make a different. You begin to struggle landing TCS after doing the aerial wirebug move. Even just having focus 2 is essential is rise since the monsters are faster.
I was running no focus the first half of MR, now I put it back on and GS feels much smoother.
I also finally listened to anons and slotted evade extender. You really cannot live without this. There’s no need to use the wirebug dash anymore.
Do you know if evade extender affects the new GS backslide?

keeping them under control for long enough causes them to explode in your favor and they slow down / exhaust absurdly for around a minute

Each tier of infected has 2 types of drops that unlock more weapons and decos. I think you need the 4th tier of drops to see all the R10 weapons so up to MR50.
That is you beating up the glowy spots for big damage to justify the monsters having like 4x times the HP they usually do.
When the monster goes red zone mode a bunch of bugs will appear in clusters around different parts of the monster's body. Hit these glowing clusters enough times and you'll trigger a bonus red explosion that also temporarily removes the bugs. Do it enough and you'll remove the infection altogether temporarily.

Those tickets are super easy to get, just motley mix all your blue mushrooms into herbal medicine. If you need more then buy a bunch of raw meat from the argosy and motley mix them into well done steak.
to be fair, you can get so many tickets by using the motley mix that you can just use them for every hunt with no issues

Are you doing poke shelling rather than spamming shell shell EC shell? Handicraft and razorsharp doesn't really need the EC route. You can also just run a redirection build instead of guarding.
I'm playing Wide and doing exactly that. I would like to have a normal shelling build too, but shell shell EC shell has been great.
I just unlocked frenzied monsters, but I'm just using the full Bazel set with a charm that has evade extender 2 and quick sheath 2 (with a level 2 and level 1 slot)
