They like to make the flagships seem big and important in their debut game so they’re referred to singularly despite the fact that they are an entire species and not unique in any way. Once they’re no longer the mascot, they get referred to the same as every other monster. Malzeno is the poster boy now, so Magnamalo no longer gets special treatment.
I'm using Velociprey at the moment, really easy to make material wise, and it has a lot of slots to put in your comfy skills.
I'm still using it in MR3, but I probably have to upgrade soon since I'm starting to get one shot by big attacks.
I fed it until I got an achievement and then I stopped giving a shit because I never got anything else in return

The new monsters are so backloaded it’s painful. The only new monsters throughout the entirety of MR1 and MR2 are Daimyo Hermitaur and Blood Orange Bishaten, so until you hit MR3 and can start fighting decent amounts of new monsters you’re just fighting stuff you’ve already fought in the base game. Even if you just speed through doing only the minimum amount of key quests and urgents that’s still 12 hunts with only 2 of them being things you didn’t hunt in LR/HR. On one hand I’m glad that most of the new monsters are closer to endgame level but on the other hand it makes the early hours of Sunbreak very underwhelming compared to Iceborne, where they made sure there were enough new monsters at every MR bracket to allow story progression with only new monsters all the way to the end. Sunbreak is a bit more like older G Ranks in that regard, but after the precedent Iceborne set it’s a little disappointing and underwhelming to go back to this.
I’m enjoying the game a lot still but this is by far the biggest issue it has, which ties into the problem of their being only 17 monsters added at launch. Two or three of them being locked behind the final boss also doesn’t help the variety throughout the lower MR brackets either.
They have weak points inflicted with a debuff that eventually procs doing about 1-2k damage after you lay into them enough
Once you pop them all the monster enters a downed state
Sometimes they will explode and basically cart you if you aren't topped up or you've grabbed some bing birds

The Citadel is absolute garbage, frick this layout. Interesting theme for an ice-map but otherwise garbage. The new Jungle however is fantastic, not only did the remix get done right the layout is great, I don't even mind only having a single camp
I honestly feel like Rise should have made a full return to only having one camp and having everyone be randomly dropped somewhere in the map. Palamutes, Wirebugs, and parkour mean that getting dropped somewhere randomly tests your traversal skills to get to the monster as fast as possible and might even drop you off right by a second monster that you could ride over, Rise had the perfect setup for that.

They increased a lot of monsters in size in Iceborne actually, not sure why. They made Rajang smaller so that his turf war with Kirin would look less silly, but I have no clue why a lot of other monsters were made bigger.

Yeah I got confused too, it only seems to count as "double buffed" immediately after he punches his arms into the ground and roars, only for a split second.
I had an issue with that in base Rise, they buffed the drop rate so much and increased the number of shinies you'll be picking up for the sake of convenience, but it ends up cutting down on the grind hard and removing much incentive to hunt a given monster too many times.

They're somewhat better than base Rise. I've only hit MR2, but I've seen a few sets so far like Rathian and Barroth that look better. The only set so far that's really wowed me to the point of instant crafting it to wear was Orange Bishaten
They nerfed spirit iai damage by half and helm breaker by a little bit, also increased recharge time. But you also get an absurdly strong attack that uses all of your spirit levels.
Oh you're still going to be using them, it's just that you have another move you're going to be using too whenever the monster is down or being a moron
Different. It got nerfed in a variety of ways, but the attack cycle has shifted. Whereas the bread and butter was iai counters and helmbreaker, I've now been using sakura slashes with the occasional iai to jump to red fast and use sacred sheathe. It's your new big dick damage attack.
Guard dashing out of the way will always be better than blocking any unblockables
I put 1 point in for emergencies for some fights but the best answer is to still just not be there.
Hyper Jho is just 15,000hp in his absolute most buffed up event quest state, while Savage Jho is like 23,000 just as a normal hunt. Meanwhile a Great Jagras has more HP than the final boss of GU and it's super event quest version.
Whether that's a huge jump relative to the massive strength increase hunters got in IB is debatable, but they did get a large HP boost.
That is literally what I said in the post you just read, but regardless it's not moronic because those numbers are only not utterly absurd amounts of Bloat because they chose those amounts based on Clutch Claw opening up weakspots which is a massive DPS increase and not just general gameplay. They are bloated as frick unless you constantly spam CC.

Insta block, that should be obvious. Even before the buffs, insta block was always great. Speaking of Lance, the new shield tackle is godly. It can quickly redirect your combo, deal stun, and lead into instablock, any poke/sweep, or counter thrust/power guard.

Goss Harag variant that hunts regular Goss Harag and wears their stony faces over its own deformed face. The ice blades it breathes onto its hands have serrations on them that make them resemble chainsaws, and they can inflict bleed in addition to iceblight. If you can knock off the skinned Goss Harag face, it exposes the true deformed face underneath which is a weak spot, but it also causes the Goss Harag variant to fly into a super rage.
Don't equip the gathering and attack palico secret support skill btw, it will randomize your palico moves. Not really sure how they dropped the ball and let such an obvious bug go through.
honestly I don't know. using CB against afflicted and other endgame monsters is suffering. Some of them, like malzeno are really good though. big opening at the end of attacks for an SAED.
I finally got around to playing Rise and man the game just feels so... barren? It's like something is missing compared to World. The maps are very lacking in detail and it just feels like an overall very barebones experience. I think it doesn't help that i'm used to Iceborn, so base Rise just feels really easy. It's not bad, just kinda bland

One of the best Frontier monsters and one of the few from Frontier G that doesn’t need to be toned down or drastically reworked to slot into mainline just perfectly.
Akura came to Frontier in the update after Espinas did IIRC, so he has very good odds of making it into the next game (I doubt he’d be update material since he’s not an endgame tier monster, there’s even a Garuga style relative to him in Akura Jebia who would be a better endgame pick).

You’re right that the early game monster variety is lacking but there was 1 new monster amongst the lineup. The story is actually finished. It's only "short" if you do nothing but key quests but there's actually about 400 quests in Sunbreak alone.

i just started and i quite like sword and shield, any tips to know?
The new monsters are so backloaded it’s painful. The only new monsters throughout the entirety of MR1 and MR2 are Daimyo Hermitaur and Blood Orange Bishaten, so until you hit MR3 and can start fighting decent amounts of new monsters you’re just fighting stuff you’ve already fought in the base game. Even if you just speed through doing only the minimum amount of key quests and urgents that’s still 12 hunts with only 2 of them being things you didn’t hunt in LR/HR. On one hand I’m glad that most of the new monsters are closer to endgame level but on the other hand it makes the early hours of Sunbreak very underwhelming compared to Iceborne, where they made sure there were enough new monsters at every MR bracket to allow story progression with only new monsters all the way to the end. Sunbreak is a bit more like older G Ranks in that regard, but after the precedent Iceborne set it’s a little disappointing and underwhelming to go back to this.
I’m enjoying the game a lot still but this is by far the biggest issue it has, which ties into the problem of their being only 17 monsters added at launch. Two or three of them being locked behind the final boss also doesn’t help the variety throughout the lower MR brackets either.
I didn't really care about the lack of new monsters early on because I was enjoying Jungle so much

The Citadel is absolute garbage, frick this layout. Interesting theme for an ice-map but otherwise garbage. The new Jungle however is fantastic, not only did the remix get done right the layout is great, I don't even mind only having a single camp
I honestly feel like Rise should have made a full return to only having one camp and having everyone be randomly dropped somewhere in the map. Palamutes, Wirebugs, and parkour mean that getting dropped somewhere randomly tests your traversal skills to get to the monster as fast as possible and might even drop you off right by a second monster that you could ride over, Rise had the perfect setup for that.

I had an issue with that in base Rise, they buffed the drop rate so much and increased the number of shinies you'll be picking up for the sake of convenience, but it ends up cutting down on the grind hard and removing much incentive to hunt a given monster too many times.

Different. It got nerfed in a variety of ways, but the attack cycle has shifted. Whereas the bread and butter was iai counters and helmbreaker, I've now been using sakura slashes with the occasional iai to jump to red fast and use sacred sheathe. It's your new big dick damage attack.

Hyper Jho is just 15,000hp in his absolute most buffed up event quest state, while Savage Jho is like 23,000 just as a normal hunt. Meanwhile a Great Jagras has more HP than the final boss of GU and it's super event quest version.
Whether that's a huge jump relative to the massive strength increase hunters got in IB is debatable, but they did get a large HP boost.

I really like Anchor Rage now. I still get fricked by multi hits sometimes but its nice being able to stick to a monster or watch them bounce off my shield

Lance is honestly an amazing progression weapon right now, and Golm uses a lot of heavy single attacks

I finally got around to playing Rise and man the game just feels so... barren? It's like something is missing compared to World. The maps are very lacking in detail and it just feels like an overall very barebones experience. I think it doesn't help that i'm used to Iceborn, so base Rise just feels really easy. It's not bad, just kinda bland

I'm just so tired of the monsters in this game. I want to go back to MHF2 when it was fun to hunt monsters. The game won't even give me half of the new switch skills that were shown off to shake up how weapons play until you basically finish the expansion. Every hunt feels like a tedious chore.

Holy shit that the Seregios fight was good. Really fast paced and no stupid gimmicks like constant AoE spam. All without feeling spammy bullshit like some of the fast monsters feel *cough*Magnamalo*cough*.

MR3 is where it starts to get harder. MR1 and MR2 are balanced for people starting right after the Rise's main story without having full endgame armor sets etc.

One of the best Frontier monsters and one of the few from Frontier G that doesn’t need to be toned down or drastically reworked to slot into mainline just perfectly.
Him and Akura are probably the frontier monsters I want the most now that Espinas is in.
Akura came to Frontier in the update after Espinas did IIRC, so he has very good odds of making it into the next game (I doubt he’d be update material since he’s not an endgame tier monster, there’s even a Garuga style relative to him in Akura Jebia who would be a better endgame pick).
