can someone tell me how the frick do I get gps joystick working on my phone? I have a Samsung Android Version 13. Nothing works, not the routes, not the joypad, nothing. Unlocked the GS and I'm actually enjoying the game but can't walk where I'm at, HELP
If you're on an unrooted android then it's detected, just shows an empty map. There's a small workaround by starting the game first and then starting the joystick, set to current location. You can spoof but limited to the area that's loaded.

Capcom knew this, which is why Iceborne is much more varied. They were originally going for a sort of "uniformed evolution" but underestimated how much people loved having a head on a stick and calling it a hammer
I almost did it with kulu LS at 4.4 which is 364 with 25% affinity. I fricked up and got hit and didn't want to waste heals though but time wise I was fine.
321 on a Pukei Hammer. I broke his horn and was only a small chunk of health away from ending it. Anything above that should be doable.
Although I did also have Burst active, got 2 perfect dodges, and a full level 3 charge. 364might be the safer number to aim for.

Hate killing a new monster and seeing my weapon of choice doesn't get a new weapon.
I wish I could practice my moves at any time. I'm constantly finding new moves in the webms posted here that I didn't know were possible because the game doesn't really every try to teach you and I don't expect them to translate something to a tap, hold, swipe moveset.
After being disappointed with hammer and much thought I've decided to be a SnS main, any recommendations on what early SnS I should focus on? Iron seems tempting because I think it might be the easiest to upgrade but it also seems to be the weakest, then there's barroth and girros but I can't decide if full DPS or paralyze is better. I don't want to touch the puki because from my understanding there's a better poison weapon later on so I don't want to commit to my h into it and same thing with elements I'll get to them later.

First off thanks, I read your messages and then went off for a morning hunt/walk for reset which gave me time to think and I've come to a conclusion on a couple things, most important being that Monster Hunter usually has low rank/high rank/master rank, this game is obviously different and instead it's a star system but I need to think more of in terms of where am I now. Then there's the issue you brought up of not being able to specifically hunt what you want and that could evidently stop your progress. Add in how good element weakness is and for those reasons and because I've already decided to commit to SnS I've crafted the jagras, puki, and girros SnS and will work on all of them.
can anyone tell me some way to improve performance? it gets borderline unplayable during hunts and it's driving me insane. pogo ran at clean 60+fps while this one just starts chugging like crazy during hunts, is it just me?
Is this actually true or is it simply the fps setting? I don't want to increase graphics and have to deal with unnecessary overheating if this is bullshit
I have heard it multiple times, and it worked for me, I have a low end device and play with mid settings without the 60 fps (because my phone can't handle it).
If your phone can already handle the 60 fps maybe it bypasses the cap but you can just try it for a couple hunts, mid and low setting is not that different anyway.
I did both and it's smooth as butter from inside my house. Out in the Florida heat may be a different story though. I'll test the settings out in the elements

Went to 15 Desert Biomes yesterday.
Saw 4 Black Diablos, and 2 of them I couldn't solo because they were 7 star.
Today I saw one, at the very end after 16 Desert Biomes, and it too was a 7 star one.
My biggest issue with this event... Did they expect this to pull PoGo numbers and random people in public would be meeting up to help?
Maybe in Japan where everyone plays this damn game but I did not run into a single hunter. Drove around to multiple parks and didn't see a Diablos until I was on the way home, nearly having given up. That first park I went to was huge too. At least I found enough Girros tails to upgrade my hammer to get Diablos to half health
Yeah, it's pretty fricked. MonHun requires much more hardware, attention, and skill to play than PoGo. I live in a pretty populous area and I think I saw one other hunter while I was out. Admittedly, I didn't have long to play before getting back to work, but still.
currently, you would be oneshotted. The hunts are honestly short enough that playing perfectly isn't a huge deal. its just not enjoyable having to wait for health to regen or pop a potion on mistake.
If you don't think you can kill the monster, abandon the hunt and move on. better to walk out with most if not all of your health and maybe comeback with special ready or hope your hunter doesn't run up and past the head causing your rolls to be awkward. I've only just unlocked diablos but I'm taking my time farming things while waiting for dual blades.
I only farmed up to diablos because none spawned around me and I wanted the zenny from the quest.
Part breaks just gives you another roll opportunity apparently. Dumb as hell to be honest. There is no incentive to go after specific targets. It's not like the matches go long enough that breaking certain parts would make a difference in the fight either.

I'm very convinced that the game is designed to frick you over more than regular MonHun. I get that it's a mobile game and they're predatory by nature, feels pretty blatant with 4 large monsters spawning juuuust out of range of my location incentivizing moving, or if I'm home, getting a wander droplet. Feels like the monsters I need don't spawn very frequently and the mats I need from them don't drop.
Monhun's about grinding, but clearly mobile games want to stretch that grind out 50x more than the mainline games. Usually you get stonewalled in grinding for specific armor or weapons by one or two rare mats. Vertical grind is pretty quick in mainline while horizontal grind, filling out situational sets, is what takes up the meat of your time.
monhun is about getting good. the grind is incidental. in this game with the stupid ass timer & very shallow combat depth it indeed becomes about the grind

Hey, the only Diabolos I've seen the whole event was a 5 star Black one and we absolutely bodied to it.
Luckily I only ever spent 1 paintball and all my 1st aid meds on the affair.
But unfortunately black Diabolos didn't count for the AR picture quest, so I was just fricked entirely.

This game is pretty fun, way better than Pokemon GO's raid battles. Paintball and range increase items are also a brilliant idea, but god damn did they jack the prices for them.
I'm currently also playing the shin megami mobile game, the AR aspect is pretty wild, you hava radar outside the game that summons daemons for you to interact with

Loving this game so far. Slaughtered Anj for my first fire wep and fire-up gear, now it's onto Legiana. I've been using Greatsword exclusively since og MH and recommend new players avoid it entirely in this. Save your mats. It's a significantly worse experiance than using SnS, LongSword, or either ranged especially with how important elemental damage is. Also it's unforgiving playstyle doesn't mix with 5 potions per day.

Ok, I tried doing some armor sets without Lock on. The stupid time limit ends up making this a necessary skill because positioning is so important for part breaking and maximizing damage.
Hopefully decorations or talismans make a return so I can dedicate that slot for this skill. Or, make it a feature and not a in game armor skill.

Level 37 in Pogo was halfway XP wise to the original max level of 40.
In Ingress, level 10 1 after reaching prestige levels at 9, and about double the total XP needed.
So.. either half way to the max HR or whatever twice the XP to unlock high rank is.

Just letting you know but every reward can be every possible drop. Even the regular reward with no part breaks can drop a tail and even if you break the head you can get a tail from it. It's basically just an extra chance.

People say SnS is shit, but I play with Gyro controls, and using certain camera angles and lunge attacks and rolls, I can get some pretty gnarly extra consistent damage during lots of monster attacks.
Wish I could record some of the kino stuff, but my phone is explode if I introduced recording in my hunts.
Im using non elemental. May be my bane. I usually run out of time because I have to cancel a swing so many times. I switched back to sns for a bit and was amazed how much easier the game became.
I wouldn't be surprised but it's a very difficult weapon to use when potions are so limited. You literally have to be super pro on positioning/timing to get away with using GS in this game so for a majority of the player base it's trash.

I have not used hammer enough to KO a monster so I can't say but more big damage openings are never bad as long as you are not running out of time.
partbreaker doesn't add anything to the DPS, slugger maybe but you should think more about weakness exploit, critical eye and stuff that actually amps your damage
Really wanted to play this, but no switchblade at launch, being in Europe with nobody knowing this exists and performance being ass to the point it's detrimental made me reconsider.

What's your best local gathering spot? There's a cemetery on the way to my gym that I do a lap through every day in my car to get my materials. Second best is a baseball field but it's a little out of the way.
My neighborhood has 5 gathering points really close to each other. Basically just out the front door and walk a 5 minute loop and come back. Got 5 bone+ just now so pretty happy (still need like 12 more though lol).
I live in a pretty decent location, right on the edge of two cells. I get 2+2 gathering spots just doing a circle around the condo building grounds, and one of those is accessible from home.

Follow up to this comment. Tried to focus on blocking more instead of dodging. The partial damage is way, way less than I expected it to be (like 2-3, not like half the damage or anything), and you get a strong flurry of counter attacks that vaults you in the air. i definitely should have been blocking more. Though it also seems like some things can't be blocked and it's hard to tell in the moment which will be which.
Upgraded to 3/1 pukei sword, still not enough to kill 4 star barroth in time limit.
Niantic thinks they're being clever but I know this is just a trick to force players to use potions, which cost real world money.

I've killed so many rathians, break the head and our tail. Still only gotten one spike. I'm not a fan of the desire sensor in this mh game.

Out of curiosity, (and not wanting to look it up), I jogged around my local park and cleared out every monster in the biome as well as the neighboring Swamp one. Sad to find that there is no biome clear bonus.
The real reward were the Rathalos parts we gained along the way.
I've been out at breakfast with my family and didn't want to take my phone out to play, but I saw that there were 2 Diablos and a 5 Star Pukei right on top of me the whole time. This fricking cat didn't use a single one of its fricking paintballs in the 2 hours we sat there
Drove home and saw that I have a one star Kulu paintballed. This game needs a paintball priority system, so that I can at least let the Palico know what to look for
I feel the catballs only work when you are detected to be actively moving, and probably only on the outer edge of the contact radius. If I'm sitting at home the only things to get marked are actually OUT of range, sometimes significantly, so they were marked during a rubberbanding incident. You should've went into the fight prep screen for one of those and would've had a good chance that it kept
Yeah I noticed the same thing. While I'm only at 3 stars it constantly only paints 1 stars, maybe a 2 if I'm lucky.
I've also been taking extra notes on breaks and drops here is what I've noticed so far that I'm sure most people might already know.

Yeah, the news came out with an update to the servers (or something along those lines) that forces a network error if you try to fight, and trying to gather an item just removes the gathering point.
There might be other ways to spoof, but that probably involves using a computer that's connected to your phone.

it's been a while since I used the rooted method but basically you root, magisk and some other apps to hide the root and apps and then move the spoofing APK into the system folder of your phone

The monetization model in this game is a riot. Not even a braindead whale should be dumb enough to pay money for a (not even full) health refill when most monsters will one hit kill you. Paintballs are a detriment due to the lack of a retry (my Palico has actually paintballed monsters that I just time-out on, meaning the monster I am actively hunting has been snatched away from me.
Paying for an increased radius is a joke. It's large enough to maybe help me reach one or two monsters. It saves me about 6 seconds of walking.
Anyone who pays to increase storage size should be executed. That's the most player-unfriendly practice I've ever seen. Completely arbitrary.

Fwiw I do think a lot of small tweaks could be made on a regional basis to make walking user-friendlier. For example, weekend event timeslots put me in the park right in 36 degree heat, under the scorching sun, which is suboptimal for a leisurely walk (not to mention phone overheating issues). I'm looking forward to trying out the friday afternoon slot, it should be much more conducive to actually playing the game for the entire 3 hours.

The point of the change is to go along with the other changes to the paintball system and make it a more attractive purchasing option. Paintball should act like posting a quest on the board in the gathering hub. The QR code sets a restriction where only people who can scan the code or scanned your party code can join the hunt.
I find lumu and legiana to be the most challenging fights, in general. They waste so much time with flying, and hitboxes become very ambiguous when you're clipped halfway through the body.
Today I figured out that by blocking a roar with SnS you can counter attack near the end of the roar with those rising slashes you would usually do via a long press and swiping backwards

My fire/thunder GS that are G5 1/5 and G4 5/5 can pretty much take out any 6 star with that weakness at this point, but a G5 5/5 diablos hammer vs 6 star diablos is pretty much just luck based on what moves he chooses
oh, well, dunno about the actual elemental damage formula and how much attack it adds by just having one piece, you could test by equipping a piece and attacking a monster and then equipping another piece and doing another hit and compare the damage
but most of the time elemental attack 3 can get you out of lots of trouble
Element is really simple in this game
It is just extra raw if it's the weakness
So a 400 raw 200 element weapon is effectively 600 if it's the monster's weakness
at what point should you rotate into elemental attack for sword and shield? eg is it worth it if you can only get fire attack 3
Basically if at any point the raw + element value takes over a full raw weapon, the element one is better
For affinity just do raw * (1 + (0.25 * affinity%))
Thus it's pretty easy for element to win pretty early on since element boosting skills give you a shit ton of extra element

Trying to solo 6* diablos with the Legiana gun but after seeing pierce on the rath gun this feels like shit. Spread shot is so inconsistent, and I always time out despite firing off my special first thing. I’m running attack +2, peak performance, weakness exploit, this is ridiculous. I also seem to lose peak range very easily with spread shot. Are its weak spots different between shot types? This is exhausting.
Yeah you can tell you aren't in peak range when the crosshair isn't yellow. Kind of why I try to avoid any of the spread shot long ranged weapons, sucks that legiana is the only ice element for now

Big mobs will just spawn on timer (you'll see map rapidly go blank and then change) without restart.
Small resource pickups respawn after 15 minutes, I believe, but require you to move in/out of the area or reload the app. Small mobs are weird, sometimes if you want them to spawn restarting the app does that, but they also pop up on their own.

The netcode IS atrocious, as it was in pogo, and the game being basically run serverside isn't helping at all. Pretty sure niantic is also using network error codes for actual spoof prevention countermeasures, too
I've played PoGo since launch, and now MHN across 6 different EU countries with their own local network providers, all on data and have never had any sort of internet connectivity issues.

Most mobile phones since 2010 will fall back to mobile data if the wifi network is disconnected. I have no idea what kind of mobile device you use that doesn't support this.

Pogo and mhn WILL fricking error out combat or any sort of interaction when network changes. Shit, yesterday I killed rathalos sitting in the building lobby, heard the victory chime, and happily walked out about to go on with my day, and the game errored out the fricking victory screen because of the switch from wifi to data, losing me all the drops. It's moronic. There are no fallbacks. There are no pauses for combat if any connection issue occurs. Game is server-authoritative but gamestate gets discarded if the client doesn't actively confirm it. There's no attempt to renegotiate state, no attempt to fail gracefully, no effort made to salvage even the most basic fail cases. It's just bonkers.
UI fricking queues calls like pot use multiple times and just sends them all, and server allows those sequential calls. This is some absolutely basic b***h shit that moronic frontend developers with ajax learned to handle gracefully decades ago.

No, you want to touch that shit. Once you complete the story, the Daily Quest start giving you some weapon refining parts. You'll want to start sticking up on those as soon as you can.
mobs learn new moveset on 4*, the only time this ever be hard is when your phone stutter, or you reached a wall due to bloated HP, you'd need some strat to kill 9 or 10* star, there is this chinese guy who get hit on purpose to get heroic/guts buffs from armor just so he can kill a 10* jagras
I'm reasonably sure that stutters during the hunts are at least partially networking-related. It's being run like a multiplayer game, if there's a connection blip of niantic server takes too long to respond you get that weird stutter in gameplay.
But really it's hard to say, between phones throttling due to heat buildup, unity's usual single-threaded jank, niantic's code, networking, and other running background apps, everything probably contributes to various degrees.
I've installed mhn on an exynos S8 yesterday (to farm up a referral account), and it actually runs not-unplayably there, until the phone heats up.
What the frick did they do to Tobi today? His attack timing is completely different than yesterday. The red flash suddenly happens a fraction of a second before his attack, making it harder to time dodges. I just died 5 times in a row to one, and I've killed about 70 in a row without getting hit.

It's amazing how many micro management side systems exists in the franchise history and Niantic did absolutely nothing. This is such a barebones mobile game with almost nothing to do. They're lucky the actual hunting part is fun enough to keep people engaged to gross $14m. Roll around to get to your target and tackle often. Use the super tcg to power through attacks. It's a pretty self-explanatory weapon, honestly. Element is actually good in this game, so if you decide you like the weapon, make 'em. Tobi weekend is a good chance to make a big lightning gs. If you have friend(s) to play with, the weapon feels much better.
I kinda got locked in a park after closure today, and seem to have stumbled onto some shady gathering. Felt like a proper G-rank area, but was well worth a detour.
Player population seems to have matured quite a bit, most people playing are HR 30+ and generally know what they are doing, unlike the diablos clown show.

GS is risky in mhnow since getting hit hurts a lot and potions are a paid item, not to mention the short timer means hitting every charged slash is doubly important.

For what it's worth, I just beat a 5 star rathian with a grade 3 rank 2 tobi bow, so the damage is definitely there
Yeah I've been experimenting with a Tobi bow too and the damage is good against big targets but it's hard to kill smaller monsters with it. I made it mainly just to kill Rathian and Rathalos while I use the Pukei bow for everything else so it does its job.
Also you can cut tails from the front with it which is pretty funny
you want to charge up twice then dodge. You'll automatically shoot a level three on dodge completion, which lets you tap again right away to shoot a second time for 1/2 of the level 3's damage. Perfect dodge lets you keep charging through the dodge. Just rinse and repeat with ideally spread arrows (especially for burst) or elemental advantage, stacking focus, affinity, element up, or burst depending on monster and bow.
Which bow are you using? Pierce doesn't feel that strong to me but spread on the Pukei bow does a shitton of damage.
I see. I guess making the Rathalos bow was a dogshit idea then because level 3 and 4 are Pierce 1 and Pierce 2, which I guess is basically a downgrade in damage. I should have just made the LS.
Depends a bit on how you aim as well to be fair, if your shots go through the head and then the entire length of the body of a huge thing like Diablos or Rathalos then you're going to end up doing a fair bit of damage with pierce but if you shoot through the side of a Kulu Ya Ku then you'll do like 50 damage total. Spread is the opposite, shoot straight at the head and you're gonna miss half your shots (unless you're super close) but shoot their sides and you'll do a ton of damage

I live in a major city with a ton of parks. According to the tracker posted earlier, only 2 parks in my city count, and they're in complete opposite corners. I've checked other cities and their offerings aren't any better.

I've been restarting client once in a while and over the last couple days I've seen a new big monster appear very near me upon restart, this happened 2 or maybe 3 times total so far. What gives? Is there some pity spawns system?

I'm coming to the conclusion this game is pretty garbage after a certain rank. I'm only HR 41, but I feel deep in the dogshit part of the game. >every monster takes like a full minute to fight because of inflated hp for 5 and 6* monsters >weapons don't scale nearly fast enough unless you whale because loot is fricking abysmal; it is not only possible, but likely you get only rarity 1 mats from 4, 5, and 6* fights >everything is horribly overpriced >cat doesn't even work for marking stuff >everything oneshots you due to aforementioned gear bottlenecks, and really easy to get oneshot for "mistakes" (desyncs and hardware can easily cause misread inputs or skipped animations)
The problem with difficulty is it compounds really fast. If you are trying to push hard content you feel pressed to take sketchy chances for an extra hit, and you have to fight longer which means you have more chances to frick up, and every frickup in an instant death.
I was stuck relatively early on weapon upgrades, and it suuuucked, but getting over that hump made a lot of things just fall into place, once going into a hunt wasn't a 50/50 roll on failure. I've recently got to 7* and am trying to make peace with the idea that for this whole cycle there aren't any weapon upgrades to be had.
I'm purposefully avoiding doing urgents because bumping up to 7* monsters in the pool would only exacerbate my issues. I've been using the same Last Dance LS since like 4* quests. And yeah, I've been pushing through content by ensuring I hit every possible counter and follow up with Burst buffs, but I'm eeking out last second wins against 6* monsters and the idea of having to do this forever with escalating hp pools is driving me crazy.

This is what has been making me quit. I need great scales from a few monsters which says they drop from level 4. Not only are the monsters I want to hunt not fricking spawning but even if I get the correct level it just gives me level 1 items.

don't get me started on how it doesn't become quicker to break off parts even though your leveled up your weapon, they should have it depend on star level of the monster to how much damage has to be done to break certain parts off.

I'm still grappling with ramifications of the idea that you have to farm 8-star mobs exclusively to get get material to make a grade 8 weapon.
As I'm climbing through the 7-star ladder, the 7* Rathians are already a tough challenge, with better than even chances I'd fail a hunt.
I guess this is why everyone said elemental pops off in the endgame, huh.
after 8 stars elemental damage starts over scaling raw damage, for example, an LS grade 7, level 4/5 with thunder attack 3 equipped can kill a 8 stars rathalos, meanwhile a grade 7, level 5/5 kulu LS can't
The drop rates are actually shit. I'd say people were just complaining, but this will kill the game. I kill 7* jagras daily and have never seen a yellow rare. I can't upgrade most of my shit because I get 3-4 green rares daily as opposed to 200 grays.
My problem is that for the majority of the hunts, you are making zero progress. I mean those words very literally. Vast majority of the fights, you won't get what's bottlenecking you, and the stuff you do get is of zero (or negative, when it's time to clear out inventory) value.
I'd be happier if the model skewed towards visible slow and steady progress over relying on 2-3 lucky drops, even if in the end the total amount of effort remained the same.

I can't even get 6* Anjanath to half health with a grade 5 4/5 Jagras bowgun. I keep dodging backwards to keep shooting his face in optimal range as much as possible but it only does like 120 damage per shot which is definitely not enough to beat the timer

if you manage your positioning right and have elemental attack 5 you can kill tons of things, i could kill 8 stars legiana with a grade 7 upgrade 1 rathalos LBG without reload and only recoil 3, but foir something like that you need to learn the monster patterns, when to and when not to attack so you can safely reload your weapon and not die

Shame elemental attack 5 needs materials from rank 6 monsters and I have issues killing rank 6 monsters because I don't have elemental attack 5. Pukei and Tobi bow have been serving me well so far even with elemental attack 3, guess I'll have to invest in the Jyura bow and some water attack gear to finally kill Anjanath.

Don't bother with bowgun against monsters you are hitting cieling with. Unless you perfect dodge reloading often, the weapon is better part breaker against easier stuff.
The same as usual - crit, attack, burst. Since the only dragon weapon is a bow right now, focus.
Just do the basic mental flowchart if you know how to dodge: Core weapon skills >/= relevant elemental damage skill > crit > attack > defensive options. Core vs. ele and crit vs. attack depends a bit on the skill levels your set already has vs. what piece A vs. piece B comparatively provide.

This is after a couple of hours in the park on friday night. Unfortunately, the larger part of the park gets closed off at 7, so I only got a small sliver of third hour spawns.
It's close enough to those G6 hips anon discussed, but gold drops being what they are hunting even one (to paypig 2x) might be rough. I'd also have to try my luck at a different park because most of todays' one won't be forest terrain anymore.
I just had my spawn event in my timezone and it was pretty good, shame I have ass luck and even after 10+ kills I only got 1 primescale. So yeah way better than the Tobis. I didn't go for more than like an hour though because it's pouring rain and freezing cold outside.
On another note, what the FRICK is up with 6* pink rathian? Did they give it 7* stats or something? My special can damn near oneshot 5* pink rathian but it does like 15% to the 6* version. I had to give up on hunting it because I couldn't get it below 50%, meanwhile I kill regular 6* rathian with 20s+ left

Assuming the numbers for 8+ are not good yet, the drop rate for R5s doesn't seem that horrendous
If you get 5 drops per hunt, that's about a 19% chance of getting at least one R5 from a 6 star fella
I still haven't gotten my 2nd primescale, I see like one 6* Pukei every 3 days at most and I have no luck with getting the drop. The only drop I did get was from the story fight

The meta is being at the park. 1hr refresh is a huge boost and generally makes for a good gameplay experience if your park is roughly cell-sized at least.
I'm not a fan of how it works with biome rotations and event being locked to only one, had to travel to three different parks for pinkian, It'd be better if event spawned the unit everywhere or forced a global biome change, since it's just 3hr time windows
Hips seem an easy choice if you have to pick one armor piece. I'm curious to see if there are any people that would be rocking the dragon damage set after this.
Why would anyone do that though? The only dragon weapon is the pink bow, and since she's an event-only for the foreseeable future, you can't get materials to upgrade it after this weekend so it will fall behind vs. every other elemental weapon. Doubly so since everything so far released that's weak to dragon is also weak to some other element, so not only can you keep improving other element weapons, but you can upgrade their armor to level six and max out element up skills vs. dragon element up without event material limitation.
There's literally no good reason in making a dragon damage set yet, for multiple reasons (fashion hunting doesn't apply in this kusoge at high stars yet).

Yeah, cat's been getting progressively worse with each update, the only time it worked well for me was the couple of days after launch. They have most recently disabled cat completely if you are actively playing, so you need to be travelling a considerable distance with game/phone off for the mechanic to even trigger.

If you're on an unrooted android then it's detected, just shows an empty map. There's a small workaround by starting the game first and then starting the joystick, set to current location. You can spoof but limited to the area that's loaded.

I almost did it with kulu LS at 4.4 which is 364 with 25% affinity. I fricked up and got hit and didn't want to waste heals though but time wise I was fine.
321 on a Pukei Hammer. I broke his horn and was only a small chunk of health away from ending it. Anything above that should be doable.
Although I did also have Burst active, got 2 perfect dodges, and a full level 3 charge. 364might be the safer number to aim for.

Practice against any of the small flying monsters. They don’t attack you, so you just need to roll away from them to start practicing.

After being disappointed with hammer and much thought I've decided to be a SnS main, any recommendations on what early SnS I should focus on? Iron seems tempting because I think it might be the easiest to upgrade but it also seems to be the weakest, then there's barroth and girros but I can't decide if full DPS or paralyze is better. I don't want to touch the puki because from my understanding there's a better poison weapon later on so I don't want to commit to my h into it and same thing with elements I'll get to them later.

I'll piggyback onto this that mudfish for water might be awkward for mats, since the chest and hands from it are what you need for the water set. Especially since it only spawns in one biome, it might be worth focusing on the jagras sns for material efficiency, since that would be two jagras pieces (sns+legs) and two jyura. Longterm jyura is better though if you get his infrequent and rare parts regularly.
Similar but to a lesser scale with anjanath and los for fire - anjanath has a generally useful chest and the head/hands for fire sets as well as your first fire weapons while rath has the helm or coil for fire, weakness exploit chest and legs, and the current best fire weps. If you can make it through legiana without an anja fire weapon, you can allocate parts to slots fairly easily.
First off thanks, I read your messages and then went off for a morning hunt/walk for reset which gave me time to think and I've come to a conclusion on a couple things, most important being that Monster Hunter usually has low rank/high rank/master rank, this game is obviously different and instead it's a star system but I need to think more of in terms of where am I now. Then there's the issue you brought up of not being able to specifically hunt what you want and that could evidently stop your progress. Add in how good element weakness is and for those reasons and because I've already decided to commit to SnS I've crafted the jagras, puki, and girros SnS and will work on all of them.

can anyone tell me some way to improve performance? it gets borderline unplayable during hunts and it's driving me insane. pogo ran at clean 60+fps while this one just starts chugging like crazy during hunts, is it just me?

Try switching the quality from low to mid. Low caps the FPS making it work a lot worse than mid, even on shitty hardware.

I have heard it multiple times, and it worked for me, I have a low end device and play with mid settings without the 60 fps (because my phone can't handle it).
If your phone can already handle the 60 fps maybe it bypasses the cap but you can just try it for a couple hunts, mid and low setting is not that different anyway.
I did both and it's smooth as butter from inside my house. Out in the Florida heat may be a different story though. I'll test the settings out in the elements

Maybe in Japan where everyone plays this damn game but I did not run into a single hunter. Drove around to multiple parks and didn't see a Diablos until I was on the way home, nearly having given up. That first park I went to was huge too. At least I found enough Girros tails to upgrade my hammer to get Diablos to half health

Yeah, it's pretty fricked. MonHun requires much more hardware, attention, and skill to play than PoGo. I live in a pretty populous area and I think I saw one other hunter while I was out. Admittedly, I didn't have long to play before getting back to work, but still.

currently, you would be oneshotted. The hunts are honestly short enough that playing perfectly isn't a huge deal. its just not enjoyable having to wait for health to regen or pop a potion on mistake.
If you don't think you can kill the monster, abandon the hunt and move on. better to walk out with most if not all of your health and maybe comeback with special ready or hope your hunter doesn't run up and past the head causing your rolls to be awkward.

I'm very convinced that the game is designed to frick you over more than regular MonHun. I get that it's a mobile game and they're predatory by nature, feels pretty blatant with 4 large monsters spawning juuuust out of range of my location incentivizing moving, or if I'm home, getting a wander droplet. Feels like the monsters I need don't spawn very frequently and the mats I need from them don't drop.
The game is clearly trying to make you play it a little over a long time but monhun is about grinding.
Monhun's about grinding, but clearly mobile games want to stretch that grind out 50x more than the mainline games. Usually you get stonewalled in grinding for specific armor or weapons by one or two rare mats. Vertical grind is pretty quick in mainline while horizontal grind, filling out situational sets, is what takes up the meat of your time.
monhun is about getting good. the grind is incidental. in this game with the stupid ass timer & very shallow combat depth it indeed becomes about the grind

Craft the poison sns and upgrade it to grade 3. It's fine for early game before you get to kill Anjanath for fire weapons.

Loving this game so far. Slaughtered Anj for my first fire wep and fire-up gear, now it's onto Legiana. I've been using Greatsword exclusively since og MH and recommend new players avoid it entirely in this. Save your mats. It's a significantly worse experiance than using SnS, LongSword, or either ranged especially with how important elemental damage is. Also it's unforgiving playstyle doesn't mix with 5 potions per day.

Ok, I tried doing some armor sets without Lock on. The stupid time limit ends up making this a necessary skill because positioning is so important for part breaking and maximizing damage.
Hopefully decorations or talismans make a return so I can dedicate that slot for this skill. Or, make it a feature and not a in game armor skill.

Just letting you know but every reward can be every possible drop. Even the regular reward with no part breaks can drop a tail and even if you break the head you can get a tail from it. It's basically just an extra chance.

People say SnS is shit, but I play with Gyro controls, and using certain camera angles and lunge attacks and rolls, I can get some pretty gnarly extra consistent damage during lots of monster attacks.

I wouldn't be surprised but it's a very difficult weapon to use when potions are so limited. You literally have to be super pro on positioning/timing to get away with using GS in this game so for a majority of the player base it's trash.

Smack her head. If you spawned really close, she's going to do a tail whip. Dodge back once. She swipes twice. Move in as soon as you see her finish her first swipe.
-If you spawned further back, she may charge at you. Prepare to dodge right.
Her follow up is either taking a bite at you or a fire ball. Both can be dodge with a kept dodge.
She'll then do her aerial vertical swipe. Dodge to the side. Get a few hits on her legs.

What's your best local gathering spot? There's a cemetery on the way to my gym that I do a lap through every day in my car to get my materials. Second best is a baseball field but it's a little out of the way.
My neighborhood has 5 gathering points really close to each other. Basically just out the front door and walk a 5 minute loop and come back. Got 5 bone+ just now so pretty happy (still need like 12 more though lol).
I live in a pretty decent location, right on the edge of two cells. I get 2+2 gathering spots just doing a circle around the condo building grounds, and one of those is accessible from home.

Follow up to this comment. Tried to focus on blocking more instead of dodging. The partial damage is way, way less than I expected it to be (like 2-3, not like half the damage or anything), and you get a strong flurry of counter attacks that vaults you in the air. i definitely should have been blocking more. Though it also seems like some things can't be blocked and it's hard to tell in the moment which will be which.
Upgraded to 3/1 pukei sword, still not enough to kill 4 star barroth in time limit.

Out of curiosity, (and not wanting to look it up), I jogged around my local park and cleared out every monster in the biome as well as the neighboring Swamp one. Sad to find that there is no biome clear bonus.

I've been out at breakfast with my family and didn't want to take my phone out to play, but I saw that there were 2 Diablos and a 5 Star Pukei right on top of me the whole time. This fricking cat didn't use a single one of its fricking paintballs in the 2 hours we sat there
Drove home and saw that I have a one star Kulu paintballed. This game needs a paintball priority system, so that I can at least let the Palico know what to look for
I feel the catballs only work when you are detected to be actively moving, and probably only on the outer edge of the contact radius. If I'm sitting at home the only things to get marked are actually OUT of range, sometimes significantly, so they were marked during a rubberbanding incident.
You should've went into the fight prep screen for one of those and would've had a good chance that it kept

I've also been taking extra notes on breaks and drops here is what I've noticed so far that I'm sure most people might already know.

Yeah, the news came out with an update to the servers (or something along those lines) that forces a network error if you try to fight, and trying to gather an item just removes the gathering point.
There might be other ways to spoof, but that probably involves using a computer that's connected to your phone.

it's been a while since I used the rooted method but basically you root, magisk and some other apps to hide the root and apps and then move the spoofing APK into the system folder of your phone
if you want a more indepth guide search on Google for a rooted spoofing tutorial for Pokemon go, in theory it should work in this game too but I haven't tried it yet

The monetization model in this game is a riot. Not even a braindead whale should be dumb enough to pay money for a (not even full) health refill when most monsters will one hit kill you. Paintballs are a detriment due to the lack of a retry (my Palico has actually paintballed monsters that I just time-out on, meaning the monster I am actively hunting has been snatched away from me.
Paying for an increased radius is a joke. It's large enough to maybe help me reach one or two monsters. It saves me about 6 seconds of walking.
Anyone who pays to increase storage size should be executed. That's the most player-unfriendly practice I've ever seen. Completely arbitrary.
only thing worth buying is the one time release pass because it increases the palico paint ball limit, also get increased paint ball limit as well and some gems but thats what ever. Honestly not worth spending money on this specially when speeding forward is time gated.
Only thing I would say rush is killing rathalos so you can unlock the daily quest crafting materials after that just take your time and farm up, also keep shit parts from clogging your item box, I had to clear out 700 rank 1 parts from kulu, jag and puki.

Fwiw I do think a lot of small tweaks could be made on a regional basis to make walking user-friendlier. For example, weekend event timeslots put me in the park right in 36 degree heat, under the scorching sun, which is suboptimal for a leisurely walk (not to mention phone overheating issues). I'm looking forward to trying out the friday afternoon slot, it should be much more conducive to actually playing the game for the entire 3 hours.

Same as regular rathian, except this b***h liked to tail spam you with poison, also I dont know yet if it would have a stronger poison in this game like regular entries, here's how it works for Raths subspicies:
Pink/Azure: Most time in air spamming tail swipes
Gold/Silver: Most time in ground slapping and spamming fire balls
All of them tend to have high roar too and more stamina
One of pink's signature attacks for some reason is charging three times in a row, so that might come back too

Rule of thumb, weapon grade number is the minimum for the sme number of stars.
As in, grade 3 is made for 3star, grade 7 is for 7 star (2purple stars)

The point of the change is to go along with the other changes to the paintball system and make it a more attractive purchasing option. Paintball should act like posting a quest on the board in the gathering hub. The QR code sets a restriction where only people who can scan the code or scanned your party code can join the hunt.

As is, pugs are a liability as often as not, and are only really worth joining if you've exhausted all of your own hunts (for a free mob), or if they are super low tier (for a free skill charge)

oh, well, dunno about the actual elemental damage formula and how much attack it adds by just having one piece, you could test by equipping a piece and attacking a monster and then equipping another piece and doing another hit and compare the damage
but most of the time elemental attack 3 can get you out of lots of trouble
Element is really simple in this game
It is just extra raw if it's the weakness
So a 400 raw 200 element weapon is effectively 600 if it's the monster's weakness
Basically if at any point the raw + element value takes over a full raw weapon, the element one is better
For affinity just do raw * (1 + (0.25 * affinity%))
Thus it's pretty easy for element to win pretty early on since element boosting skills give you a shit ton of extra element

Trying to solo 6* diablos with the Legiana gun but after seeing pierce on the rath gun this feels like shit. Spread shot is so inconsistent, and I always time out despite firing off my special first thing. I’m running attack +2, peak performance, weakness exploit, this is ridiculous. I also seem to lose peak range very easily with spread shot. Are its weak spots different between shot types? This is exhausting.
Yeah you can tell you aren't in peak range when the crosshair isn't yellow. Kind of why I try to avoid any of the spread shot long ranged weapons, sucks that legiana is the only ice element for now

Big mobs will just spawn on timer (you'll see map rapidly go blank and then change) without restart.
Small resource pickups respawn after 15 minutes, I believe, but require you to move in/out of the area or reload the app. Small mobs are weird, sometimes if you want them to spawn restarting the app does that, but they also pop up on their own.

Pogo and mhn WILL fricking error out combat or any sort of interaction when network changes. Shit, yesterday I killed rathalos sitting in the building lobby, heard the victory chime, and happily walked out about to go on with my day, and the game errored out the fricking victory screen because of the switch from wifi to data, losing me all the drops. It's moronic. There are no fallbacks. There are no pauses for combat if any connection issue occurs. Game is server-authoritative but gamestate gets discarded if the client doesn't actively confirm it. There's no attempt to renegotiate state, no attempt to fail gracefully, no effort made to salvage even the most basic fail cases. It's just bonkers.
UI fricking queues calls like pot use multiple times and just sends them all, and server allows those sequential calls. This is some absolutely basic b***h shit that moronic frontend developers with ajax learned to handle gracefully decades ago.

I'm reasonably sure that stutters during the hunts are at least partially networking-related. It's being run like a multiplayer game, if there's a connection blip of niantic server takes too long to respond you get that weird stutter in gameplay.
But really it's hard to say, between phones throttling due to heat buildup, unity's usual single-threaded jank, niantic's code, networking, and other running background apps, everything probably contributes to various degrees.
I've installed mhn on an exynos S8 yesterday (to farm up a referral account), and it actually runs not-unplayably there, until the phone heats up.
What the frick did they do to Tobi today? His attack timing is completely different than yesterday. The red flash suddenly happens a fraction of a second before his attack, making it harder to time dodges. I just died 5 times in a row to one, and I've killed about 70 in a row without getting hit.

Barroth is a good trial sword to see if you actually enjoy the weapon because his mats ain't used for anything useful.
Roll around to get to your target and tackle often. Use the super tcg to power through attacks. It's a pretty self-explanatory weapon, honestly. Element is actually good in this game, so if you decide you like the weapon, make 'em. Tobi weekend is a good chance to make a big lightning gs. If you have friend(s) to play with, the weapon feels much better.

GS is risky in mhnow since getting hit hurts a lot and potions are a paid item, not to mention the short timer means hitting every charged slash is doubly important.

Can someone explain how to do bow DPS? It feels so slow and I must be missing something. I'm dashing to jump levels quickly for big Pierce attacks and I still feel like it's less damage than just landing LS counters. Though with how dogshit the game is with stuttering and desync, maybe it's better to have bow just for consistency and safety.
Which bow are you using? Pierce doesn't feel that strong to me but spread on the Pukei bow does a shitton of damage.
For what it's worth, I just beat a 5 star rathian with a grade 3 rank 2 tobi bow, so the damage is definitely there
Yeah I've been experimenting with a Tobi bow too and the damage is good against big targets but it's hard to kill smaller monsters with it. I made it mainly just to kill Rathian and Rathalos while I use the Pukei bow for everything else so it does its job.
Also you can cut tails from the front with it which is pretty funny
Not a true rangegay, but as I understand it:
you want to charge up twice then dodge. You'll automatically shoot a level three on dodge completion, which lets you tap again right away to shoot a second time for 1/2 of the level 3's damage. Perfect dodge lets you keep charging through the dodge. Just rinse and repeat with ideally spread arrows (especially for burst) or elemental advantage, stacking focus, affinity, element up, or burst depending on monster and bow.
I see. I guess making the Rathalos bow was a dogshit idea then because level 3 and 4 are Pierce 1 and Pierce 2, which I guess is basically a downgrade in damage. I should have just made the LS.
Depends a bit on how you aim as well to be fair, if your shots go through the head and then the entire length of the body of a huge thing like Diablos or Rathalos then you're going to end up doing a fair bit of damage with pierce but if you shoot through the side of a Kulu Ya Ku then you'll do like 50 damage total. Spread is the opposite, shoot straight at the head and you're gonna miss half your shots (unless you're super close) but shoot their sides and you'll do a ton of damage

I live in a major city with a ton of parks. According to the tracker posted earlier, only 2 parks in my city count, and they're in complete opposite corners. I've checked other cities and their offerings aren't any better.

I've been restarting client once in a while and over the last couple days I've seen a new big monster appear very near me upon restart, this happened 2 or maybe 3 times total so far. What gives? Is there some pity spawns system?

I'm coming to the conclusion this game is pretty garbage after a certain rank. I'm only HR 41, but I feel deep in the dogshit part of the game.

The problem with difficulty is it compounds really fast. If you are trying to push hard content you feel pressed to take sketchy chances for an extra hit, and you have to fight longer which means you have more chances to frick up, and every frickup in an instant death.
I was stuck relatively early on weapon upgrades, and it suuuucked, but getting over that hump made a lot of things just fall into place, once going into a hunt wasn't a 50/50 roll on failure. I've recently got to 7* and am trying to make peace with the idea that for this whole cycle there aren't any weapon upgrades to be had.
I'm purposefully avoiding doing urgents because bumping up to 7* monsters in the pool would only exacerbate my issues. I've been using the same Last Dance LS since like 4* quests. And yeah, I've been pushing through content by ensuring I hit every possible counter and follow up with Burst buffs, but I'm eeking out last second wins against 6* monsters and the idea of having to do this forever with escalating hp pools is driving me crazy.

I'm still grappling with ramifications of the idea that you have to farm 8-star mobs exclusively to get get material to make a grade 8 weapon.
As I'm climbing through the 7-star ladder, the 7* Rathians are already a tough challenge, with better than even chances I'd fail a hunt.
I guess this is why everyone said elemental pops off in the endgame, huh.

The drop rates are actually shit. I'd say people were just complaining, but this will kill the game. I kill 7* jagras daily and have never seen a yellow rare. I can't upgrade most of my shit because I get 3-4 green rares daily as opposed to 200 grays.
My problem is that for the majority of the hunts, you are making zero progress. I mean those words very literally. Vast majority of the fights, you won't get what's bottlenecking you, and the stuff you do get is of zero (or negative, when it's time to clear out inventory) value.
I'd be happier if the model skewed towards visible slow and steady progress over relying on 2-3 lucky drops, even if in the end the total amount of effort remained the same.

I can't even get 6* Anjanath to half health with a grade 5 4/5 Jagras bowgun. I keep dodging backwards to keep shooting his face in optimal range as much as possible but it only does like 120 damage per shot which is definitely not enough to beat the timer
i should also mention that i was using fire attack +5 armor and recoil 3
I have reload 2 and recoil 2 on my armor but it doesn't seem to do anything honestly, still slow as frick
if you manage your positioning right and have elemental attack 5 you can kill tons of things, i could kill 8 stars legiana with a grade 7 upgrade 1 rathalos LBG without reload and only recoil 3, but foir something like that you need to learn the monster patterns, when to and when not to attack so you can safely reload your weapon and not die
Shame elemental attack 5 needs materials from rank 6 monsters and I have issues killing rank 6 monsters because I don't have elemental attack 5. Pukei and Tobi bow have been serving me well so far even with elemental attack 3, guess I'll have to invest in the Jyura bow and some water attack gear to finally kill Anjanath.
you can still use elemental attack 2 or 3, cant you? the elemental damage gets added to your raw in this game

The caveat is that for ranged weapons you have to play with gyro aiming controls.
Don't bother with bowgun against monsters you are hitting cieling with. Unless you perfect dodge reloading often, the weapon is better part breaker against easier stuff.

The same as usual - crit, attack, burst. Since the only dragon weapon is a bow right now, focus.
Just do the basic mental flowchart if you know how to dodge: Core weapon skills >/= relevant elemental damage skill > crit > attack > defensive options. Core vs. ele and crit vs. attack depends a bit on the skill levels your set already has vs. what piece A vs. piece B comparatively provide.

This is after a couple of hours in the park on friday night. Unfortunately, the larger part of the park gets closed off at 7, so I only got a small sliver of third hour spawns.
It's close enough to those G6 hips anon discussed, but gold drops being what they are hunting even one (to paypig 2x) might be rough. I'd also have to try my luck at a different park because most of todays' one won't be forest terrain anymore.
I just had my spawn event in my timezone and it was pretty good, shame I have ass luck and even after 10+ kills I only got 1 primescale. So yeah way better than the Tobis. I didn't go for more than like an hour though because it's pouring rain and freezing cold outside.
On another note, what the FRICK is up with 6* pink rathian? Did they give it 7* stats or something? My special can damn near oneshot 5* pink rathian but it does like 15% to the 6* version. I had to give up on hunting it because I couldn't get it below 50%, meanwhile I kill regular 6* rathian with 20s+ left

Assuming the numbers for 8+ are not good yet, the drop rate for R5s doesn't seem that horrendous
If you get 5 drops per hunt, that's about a 19% chance of getting at least one R5 from a 6 star fella

the problem with pinkian is that it covers most of the screen whenever it attacks, this one trick will help you, niantic hates it

The meta is being at the park. 1hr refresh is a huge boost and generally makes for a good gameplay experience if your park is roughly cell-sized at least.
I'm not a fan of how it works with biome rotations and event being locked to only one, had to travel to three different parks for pinkian, It'd be better if event spawned the unit everywhere or forced a global biome change, since it's just 3hr time windows

Hips seem an easy choice if you have to pick one armor piece. I'm curious to see if there are any people that would be rocking the dragon damage set after this.
Why would anyone do that though? The only dragon weapon is the pink bow, and since she's an event-only for the foreseeable future, you can't get materials to upgrade it after this weekend so it will fall behind vs. every other elemental weapon. Doubly so since everything so far released that's weak to dragon is also weak to some other element, so not only can you keep improving other element weapons, but you can upgrade their armor to level six and max out element up skills vs. dragon element up without event material limitation.
There's literally no good reason in making a dragon damage set yet, for multiple reasons (fashion hunting doesn't apply in this kusoge at high stars yet).

Yeah, cat's been getting progressively worse with each update, the only time it worked well for me was the couple of days after launch. They have most recently disabled cat completely if you are actively playing, so you need to be travelling a considerable distance with game/phone off for the mechanic to even trigger.

Bow damage is so silly and safe to play it's hard to even want to play other weapons
Pierce is just especially good on rathalos and rathian, it's a combination of gigantic monsters getting hit dozens of time with one arrow and them being weak to it

FWIW I don't anyone not mega-hardcore could've gotten an endgame weapon out of this event.
So how does it look or work when joining someone's hunt put in the open. I live around the tourist area of Florida and I constantly see the game telling there are like 2 people near me even when i'm sitting in my room. I rarely get someone to join but, today oddly enough crossing the street today at 7am I had someone join then. It's really fricking odd timing when I do see people.
You get a small notification at the bottom left of your screen that says join the hunt or similar which you can tap on
