Unironically a game with the hunts from monster hunter but the relationship systems, RPG elements, and time management of Persona would be kino. The worst part of MH is the grind gets extremely repetitive once you get deeper into master rank. A good way to disrupt that would be to make me care about the villagers and npc hunters. Imagine how much more invested you'd be in outfitting a NPC hunter with gear if they had a personality and were date-able.

Go back to the roots. You're a hunter hunting monsters around a village and gradually expanding the scope. Monsters are an actual threat even from early on, it doesn't need to get to the endgame to become difficult. More survival elements and more meaningful resource management. Environments designed more like actual environments and less like platformer levels. Less pointless shit during the combat that removes focus from the actual moveset of the monster and the weapon you're using. Add some actual viable tactics besides "whacking the monster until he dies", for example make stuff like baiting a monster into a natural trap actually useful like in those early World demos where the hunter brought the Anjanath all the way to the top of the forest so that it would fall and be eaten by lagiacrus.
>Also have additional monsters on the map be an actual threat (or aid) you have to look out for instead of just random nuisances that might or might not annoy you with a pointless turf war or by roaring every 2 seconds while you're fighting something else. Make monster behavior outside of combat more meaningful so that you actually have a reason to track the monster and know its habits and timing etc..., make it feel more like a proper hunting simulator instead of "follow the green light". Make maps bigger. More focused weapon moveset, the additional bloat should be divided into styles or "attachements" to weapons that unlock new moves, or maybe make the moveset semi-customizable. Less in your face cutscenes, but more NPCs interactions while out in the field like in The witcher 3 quest. More interesting stuff in the world that isn't just lynian hideouts. Characters shouldn't move and talk like a japanese game show.
>Less focus on Elder Dragons in general. Make them an endgame exclusive that isn't so immediately in your face from the very getgo. The flagship should be Apex tier.
World and Rise fundamentally changed the core of Monster Hunter.
The games used to be slow paced methodical action titles with some survival/simulation elements. In the World prototype they focused on the latter part, but then made it inconsequential and pointless in the final product since the core gameplay switched to a fast paced spammy combat focus. In older MH everything the monster or you did felt meaningful, with commitment, consequences and so on. In World, you just wail on monsters aimlessly. There's no consequence for sloppy play for most of the experience. When monsters start to get dangerous is during the endgame, where they gain AoE spam and other cancer designs. And even then the hunter is so mobile, so proficient and so competent with so many tool at his disposal that he can still steamroll each fight with enough patience. Everything from the skill system, to how healing works etc... was changed to ensure faster paced combat that plays more like an action game than old MH. Rise is the same philosphy but even more faster paced and more arcadey and streamlined overall as an experience.
This is not Monster Hunter. The series only took two steps forward from its inception, these were DoS that expanded the simulative mechanics (but it was a flawed and unrefined game) and Tri that properly refined the core gameplay with a well rounded and high quality cast of monsters and maps, but wasn't as simulative as Dos. Everything else has been either a downgrade (see 4U with its focus on horrible 1st gen fights and a pointless endgame loop with overpowered monsters for example) or a sidegrade (Rise is a great game on its own but a terrible MH).
You could argue World was a step forward in terms of presentation but that's only for Endemic Life and graphical fidelity. Tri still is unmatched in terms of atmosphere, and every title prior to Gen 5 had a much more impressive sense of scale despite the limited maps and graphics
My first MH was Tri and my second World, both close to release. Tri was one of the greatest experiences I'd ever had with vidya, World was okay. Didn't finish Iceborne because I got severely bored, even with online. I thought it might have been due to the fact that MHs are largely the same game over and over and it's likely you won't enjoy your second game in the series as your first, but yeah, maybe World was just not such a good game and Tri much better.
What you said about consequences feels true. My first cart in World was to Nergigante. Until that point, it didn't really seem to matter much if I got hit or made a misplay. That ultimately turns the game into more of a "just put the time in" rather than "improve your skill at the game". If hitting monsters and upgrading your shit weren't so inherently satisfying (though the latter also suffered in World with its shitty weapons), I would've stopped much earlier. Oh, and the cats. The cats are good.

The Magalas return was well worth it, they’re fantastic in this. Also Malzeno and Lunagaron, really captures the aspect of what they’re based on and excels at it too, fun as frick fights Garangolm is good too, just the other two left a bigger impact on me. And Gaismagorm is easily my favorite final FINAL boss, can’t get any better than Monster Hunter‘a Satan. Still gotta fight Angry Rajang and Punished Magna so looking forward to that.
As for armor, Malzeno is probably my favorite looking set, and Seregios is probably my favorite to use, I’ve actually been using a mix between Malzeno and Seregios to get Blood Rite and blade scale for maximum comfort.

worse decos, and offensive guard isn't that great on GL but you could probably do a mix of the two
Offensive guard is OK with wide shelling considering you'll have it up more often than not if you're guard reloading properly.
But you won't be poking ever with Wide though.
Bazel has full agitator and better slots. You lose out on quick sheathe and offensive guard, but you can get more out of it if you can live without quick sheathe

Rare species are monsters that already had subspecies and they wanted to make another; they're usually in remote areas and alone: metal raths, lucent narg, abyssal lagi, molten tigrex, white espinas
Variants are technically the normal monster that got old or angry or something got fricked up inside them: seething bazel, scorned magna, savage jho, scarred garuga, rust kushala, shrieking legiana etc. were all originally a normal version of said monster
Lucent Narga = rare species
Seething Bazel = special species
"Variants" - is the designation for monsters turned up to 11. They're not necessarily different species, but rather aberrant specimen of a regular species. Like a really fricking hungry Jho, or a Gore, that failed to molt properly, etc.
"Rare species" - is, by now, a legacy term. It applies to a bunch of different monsters, which could easily fit a "subspecies" or "deviant" category. Or you could say that "deviants" are nu-"rare species". Mostly older monsters were categorized as "rare".
"Special species" - is an odd one. Usually it's the designation for some wacky collab monsters. Such as BOW Vaal, or EVA Brachydios. But in case of Sunbreak, it might have been a mistranslation.

Dos has more involved village building, seasons that affect what you can and can't do, weird quest structure, and some other stuff
P3rd is 3rd gen without water, so the maps are pretty different, it has a post-hunt invasion system that doesn't show up in other games, and a foot bath instead of food, it also has a couple hunts that didn't make it to 3U for some reason like Tigrex

it's funky sometimes because each gen can have Portable titles which are different from the base game of that gen like Tri to P3rd and Dos with Freedom 2. The G version builds off the one of the titles, and sometimes both the base game and the Portable title get seperate G versions like 4th gen did with both 4U and GU and 5th gen with IB and SB

I feel like there’s way to many unique armor and weapon designs for them to outright remove them, and I wouldn’t think they’d get replaced because of that reason too. From a gameplay perspective they might be necessary too depending on how large the locales could be (especially if it’s open world somehow)

My PC is WAY stronger than a PS5 and factoring in paid online and game price became cheaper than a ps5 (ignoring the scalping even) after 3 months of use, and I can upgrade any component I want, do other things than play games, use any controller I want, play the games I had on my previous PC and keep playing them after upgrading, etc

What skills and switch skills do you use?
I kinda find skill swap hard to utilize since i usually stick to one loadout
Im using insta block, shield tackle, shield charge and anchor rage. I got the same setup but with spiral thrust on the other scroll to close gaps but i rarely bother swapping to be honest. With skills i just try to max guard and guard up and then roll with whatever gives me some damage. I don't think you need them maxed but i can't be fricked optimizing it.

Once you get to high rank in Generations you unlock the maps from 4. Despite all the new and redesigned old maps they introduced, the new mechanics, returning monsters, etc. Generations is actually Portable 4th in a roundabout way. They build on what was in the 4th generation main line games.
On the flipside, Rise makes little to no effort whatsoever to have any content from World. The closest thing is a couple of monsters from it being in there, but it's no more a Portable 5th than it is another Portable 3rd for bringing back the Sandy Plains and Flooded Forest. They have officially dropped the idea that the Portables games are spin-offs, as well as having dropped the numbers from the main series, such that it and future Portable games are one in the same. Rise is, for all intents and purposes, the 6th Monster Hunter game.
