The share button is fine because it's tiny and out of the way. The real problem is the gigantic touchpad that constantly gets in the way when playing fighting games.

Competitive fighting game player of 15+ years here, that is total nonsense. Pads are arguably better if anything, people have only recently started to wake up to that. There is absolutely no tangible advantage to stick unless that is what you learned on. Yes, bad pads do exist and some people are also moronic and use the analog stick but DS4 pads and such are totally fine and people have used them and their predecessors for a long time with no issues. I can play both stick and pad by the way and switch for different games.
I'd argue hitbox is has the best benefits out of all the controllers since you can do a lot of shortcuts easily with it and it's relatively easy to adapt to if you're a keyboard player. I don't think the benefits are so great they're worth switching over if you already are very comfortable with your controller of choice.
Unless you're playing at a professional level (and even pros will just stick with what they like), it doesn't matter in the long term and I don't think it'll be the deciding factor whether or not you win in a match or not in most cases.

The only reason sticks were ever popular was because the regulars back in the day primarily played their fighting games in arcades. And arcades used stick controls. And thus they too adopted stick controls.
And then for people using stick controls that weren't arcade regulars. Did so because the top players were using sticks and they just assumed that the sticks must be superior because the top players were using them.
But nothing about sticks are actually superior.
If you have a regular keyboard (with a matrix that doesn't ghost) you can be a champion with it. Same with regular gamepad controls.

I don't recall ever playing a VITA game that ever used the back touchpad they seem like one of the most moronic design choices made by a multi billion dollar company.
Sony games were really the only ones to ever use them. Tearaway is pretty much the only good implementation of it at all.
Besides soul sacrifice and Persona 4 golden I just used my Vita to play Visual novels in bed.
Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 HD used it for stuff like peaking or peak aiming. One of the uses in 2 was doing pull ups, you had to pinch(yeah pinching) the touch pad in order to do pull ups.

DS4 has many problems and the dedicated screenshot button is not one of them. To this day when I play on pc using my xbone controller pressing f12 on keyboard is the preferred way to take screenshot because frick remembering what button combination am I supposed to press

Watermarks are up to the devs to include on Switch, PS4, PS5, and Xbox. The vast majority of the time you don't get them but Sega in the early days and Bamco are terrible about it.

Mine takes screenshots as PNG and dumps them in Captures under the user's Pictures folder.
If you have HDR enabled with a 10-bit monitor it will take two screenshots, one in JPEG Extended Range JXR format with the HDR data embedded, and one tonemapped down to SDR in PNG.
Yeah, but sometimes the JXR isn't even close to accurate, and the PNG looks better.
Yeah I was initially surprised that they even thought to try capturing HDR screenshots that way, but also confused as to why they were even bothering with JXR when Windows has native HEIC/HEIF support now which has better support for HDR content.
I gave up on anything that requires GeForce Experience on my last build where having it installed caused stuttering every few minutes, now I just use OBS for local recording which has better HDR support.
Also, samegayging here. I've had Shadowplay capture HDR in a video a grand total of once. I uploaded it to israelitetube and it actually displayed it in HDR mode (Thisun: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwKnk0A7vs0).

Nvidia does it occasionally as well. It's glitchy when deciding which overlays it wants to capture.
You can disable screenshot notifications so that you can avoid that issue on basically anything that takes screenshots. PS4 can, PS5 can, Xbone doesn't have a notification because it's done through the guide button, Switch ignores any of the notifications on a system-wide level when taking screenshots so people signing in or you taking a video/screenshot don't show up in the next, GeForce Experience can, and I'm sure AMD can.

The DualShock 4 sucks fricking dick. The only things they got right were the D-pad and L2/R2 triggers.
DualSense has nice rumble and built-in mic but it inherits almost all of the Dualshock 4's flaws as well as being bulky and less-comfortable.
I actually love the idea of it because funny shit that happens that you'll want to clip never happens when you're actively recording. Being able to press a button to go back in time to clip it is way better than your precious select button that you didn't even grow up with because you're sub 20 years old. PC has software for this already but consolekiddies can use it.

The PS4 controller is a single most moronic base controller I've had. Touchpad is imprecise and useless, lightbar is more of an nuisance than a feature, open triggers are a fricking joke and analog sticks are slippery drifting pieces of shit. They had a golden design in the PS2 controller, why the frick they thought that needed "improving" (other than it being a way to drive up the price for the consumer) is something I will never understand.
Sounds to me like you just got a bunk controller because I have had none of those issues. The DS2 and DS3 are garbage after you have touched a DS4 and especially a Dualsense. I find it an absolute nightmare to have to go back and use one of these controllers when playing my PS2 or PS3 because they feel so awful and not ergonomic at all. Meanwhile the DS4 and DS have great thumbsticks, great L2/R2 that don't have the plastic rim constantly rubbing on your finger, far more responsive L1/R1, and the sole thing the older Dualshocks do better is the d-pad, that's it. That's their one good thing. Even then the DS3's destroys your thumbs if you use it for fighting games.

It's better than not having it all, and when the games that do use it use it it's always much more preferable than not having it. Using an Xbox controller on PC sucks absolute ass because you don't have the option for gyro when you feel like it, especially when Steam itself lets you configure any button to take advantage of the gyro if you so choose. I play Genshin Impact with gyro turning itself on when I hold my aim button for example and it's extremely useful.

I don't like the built-in speaker but it gets used quite a bit. Yakuza games use it to tell you when you've walked into range of the main story location, Genshin Impact does it for Elemental Sight and some other sounds, Tomb Raider has Lara read off collectibles, most Sony first party games use it, and that's off the top of my head. I do think it's unnecessary though and always disable it.

Virtually every game uses haptic feedback for the rumble. I don't think I've played one yet that doesn't use it, first party or not. Likewise a huge chunk of the games utilize the adaptive triggers and they actually enhance how your game feels, but the downside is they tire your fingers out more and there's the argument to be had about how the gimmick will eventually wear the controller down. The microphone is also 100% useless and I can't understand why they'd even bother because Nintendo could barely justify it on the DS and 3DS and if they intended it for multiplayer you're gonna get the sound from everything in your room and it'll be horribly tinny.

Thought it was dumb when they first announced it but ended up liking it when I finally tried it out. I was glad when Nintendo announced the switch would have a screenshot button.
It's fun to save a video when something interesting happens, or to save replays for later analysis.

That's true, but it's a problem caused by publishers being moronic first and foremost. There might be an option to turn off those notifications anyway.
Their thought process is that the only people who will be able to record footage or make screenshots have to own physical capture cards and go through the efforts required to set that up to post them. This allows them to keep spoilers and footage of gameplay much more contained to a significantly smaller subset of people. Sega took years and years to stop doing this in every game and even P5R blocked recording and screenshots of new scenes because of what they deemed as spoilers.
It's extremely dumb but that's their excuse.

It's not like "Start" is any less silly and archaic. I can't remember the last time Start specifically was actually used to start something. Should really be called the "Pause" button, or "Skip cutscene" button, or something.
Also I'd rather just put the actual Select functions on there even if it's called share. Touchpad Press was very obviously the new "Select" because they needed it to not feel like a total waste when people were inevitably going to ignore the actual touch functionality.
