I get it and I really don't care. Wii was fun and, as a whole package, it was great.

Wiiware games were pretty choice. The Rebirth titles, Megaman 9 and 10. It was a renaissance period of 8-bit and 16-bit styled vidya.

You can't mention Wiiware without mentioning the Strongbad games, Jett Rocket and Bomberman Blast.

Wii nostalgia is crazy because I remember when it was fashionable to always shit on it. Plenty of valid criticisms were brought up and now kids that grew up with it ignore it but they're more than content with shitting on the Switch despite it having the better library

I'm in my 30s and I've always liked the Wii even when it was fashionable to shit on (which was all the time after 2006 or 2007). My OP is sort of a play on the same thing you're talking about with everyone shitting on it because it was just the thing everybody did. I don't know how liking the Wii means I should shit on the Switch though. I have one and it's good.

once you hack it and get access to every game it's pretty good. but the controllers all feel like cheap shit, both official and third-party.

the first party nintendo games in their big mainline titles were very shit but it also had quite a few niche titles that subsequent systems never quite reproduced

very weird console, overall pretty trash but so unique it somewhat feels like the bastardized last survivor of the PS2 era before everything went to shit

being forced to wiggle to do shit you used to be able to do with a button press, or to do things that could easily be handled with basic context sensitivity was a drag.

That is the biggest problem, a bunch of games that could work with a classic controller scheme were forced to only use waggle. Games like New Super Mario Bros, DKC Returns, Metroid Prime: Trilogy, just a bunch of games either make you use Wiimote and nunchuck or sidemote and shake.
Sure there are games like Mario Galaxy that need it but if the majority of games had the option of Classic/GameCube controller support where applicable, there would be way less complaints.

My biggest complaint as a Wii fan, at least in North America, was that Nintendo never seemed to advertise games that actually needed it. Games like Sin and Punishment: Star Successor for example got next to no TV or ad time, but NBSMWii got prostituted out to no end. It seemed like 3rd parties took their lead too since games like Zack and Wiki, The Conduit, Goldeneye 007 on the Wii, the Trauma Center games, and many others got next to NOTHING, but Just Dance and Carnival Games got all the promotional material and marketing. I remember always hating seeing great games get shitty sales when it was very apparent that nobody would even know the games existed. Or maybe they were all on Nickelodeon, Disney Channel, or Cartoon Network and I never saw them because they were on these channels.

The example that immediately comes to mind.... aside from DKC returns, is twilight princess.
The motion controls are so hamfisted and barely functional (it took me like half an hour to do the fricking mandatory fishing minigame at the beginning of the game) and I wish so bad I could just use a cube controller, but nope, gotta shove in waggle.
My brother got it for the wii a few years ago cause it's way cheaper than the cube version, and it so happens that is partly because nearly everyone rightly considers it inferior to the cube game.

I'd love to play the remaster instead, but I ain't getting a fricking wiiu for it.
There's no way they're going to keep it and WW remasters locked on that pos forever though I didn't think they'd wait this long, at this point it's pretty much a guarantee they're not coming to the switch.

the console suffered greatly from needing to choose between a second analog stick and motion. I can't really fault them with how iconic the wiimote ended up being but so many games on it cried out for a dual nunchuck scheme.

too me it just feels like a missed opportunity. IR had huge potential for changing console control schemes but it died on the vine. gyro was never the same.

Imagine if Nintendo designed the Wii Remote as an actual lightgun instead of the pussy IR shit

Why not take a step forward and just make the controller an actual functioning gun?

If they had released with a gyro, then we would finally be off of 6th gen control schemes.
The Accelerometer and IR pointer being their only means of motion control set the tone for how they were going to do motion controls and they really only permitted for waggle or limited gameplay.
They definitely moved a step in the right direction with removing the right analog stick and splitting the controller into two parts though.

It would have placed the console firmly against the trend of removing CRTs since lightguns need them to work.

Waggle was a horrible blight, one of Nintendos worst gimmicks because it infested other platforms

      >Infested other platforms
      >Literally just Sony who did not know what the frick they were doing during 7th gen
Still better than the worthless right analog stick which has actually infested every platform and allowed controllers to pretend to be capable of playing genres they can't play while kneecapping every other input method.

It's a really good game. I was hoping Nintendo would remember it existed long enough for a Switch remaster. Maybe for Switch 2 with joycons that may not.need as much recalibration.

The controls were superior and let you perform actions like boxing. Gloves would be better for interaction and training, but wiimote+nunchuck is by itself a massive leap forward for controls that should have become standard.

The only upside is it would make the implemention of gloves and real guns less opposed, with a huge leap forward in controls instead of just a lot better than pointing a wiimote around.

VR/AR won't take off until the screen is just glasses. Fakejews shouldn't have anything to do with it, nor google though it's main use would be navigation, training and working with others. Kind of need graphics to assist the surroundings, ai too, to make going around interesting, especially if your ability to explore is limited.

Modding the thing evaluates it from being 5/10 to the greatest system ever made. Works great as a cheap emulation box
