MS should just stop producing Xbox consoles

It's obvious that Xbox is not really a priority for MS anymore, they're more interested in mobile gaming and PC gaming, they don't care if games are optimized for the Xbox, and Xbox is getting outsold by PlayStation 3:1

I didn't have an issue with elden ring at launch. Not to be mean but the issue was mainly people with older cpu's and they patched that up quite fast for those that did. I didn't play forza horizon or motorsport 7 at launch, but I can run those easily at 4k 120+fps now a days. Sure a handful of issues popup but to say it's a worse experience is stupid. It goes to show that you don't know what you're talking about. If you were to give pc gaming a go you would see how dumb console gaming has gotten.

I don't think consoles are the problems. Graphics and devs are the problems. Instead of creating a visually good looking game that runs very well and plays well, you get a more visually good-to-great looking game with all kinds of filters, particle effects, lighting, and whatever else the frick, while the gameplay languishes and runs at low ass frame rates or bounces around from 60FPS to less then back again.

Why devs and normie games don't seem to understand this I don't get. The games should be visually polished as the last thing they ever do to the game. Get all the other shit working first, then put all the pretty graphics (up to a point) at the end.

It has two 60fps modes (one 4K and one with RT in a slightly lower res) and a 30fps "max everything" mode. All the three modes are locked, no drops anywhere, not even once. No other competitor has extensive RT in their racing game at 60 on consoles, Gran Turismo doesn't even have RT in gameplay.

You can buy a decent gaming PC today from Steam for $400.

The Xbox has always existed only to lock developers to DirectX, and to force users into a choice between a cheap but entirely locked down ecosystem, or having to pay for the priviledge of a platform that can do anything you want, but with no attention to ease of use or affordability.
Valve has made that irrelevant now with the power of GNU/Linux.

The Xbox should end, and Microsoft should just exit the end-user market entirely. They've never managed to make money on anything other than software for business. Windows and the Xbox just serve no purpose now other than to hold PC gaming back.

It masquerades as a handheld console, but it is in fact a fully capable GNU/Linux powered Gaming PC for $400. You would be hard pressed to build a more capable system yourself for the same cost especially with the added expenses of running Windows, because you need higher-priced hardware for the same performance.

The lowest you can go on GPU is a 6600 for $200 dollars. Get an i3 CPU for $100, MB for $100. $50 for PSU, $50 for Case, $50 for Ram. $50 for SSD. So about $600. We are getting closer but that GPU is weaker than the one in a Xbox.

The funny part about Halo is that it was going to be a Mac exclusive before Microsoft bought out Bungie, like the rest of Bungies older games were. If Mac had a big reason to use their PCs like Halo, it'd have been healthier for PC gaming over all because there might have been some more competition to Windows.

The console userbase didn't change, MS got a big slice when they were on top. They are in the gutter so they don't now. The first Xbox could barely get 20 million users and you are too young if you think Xbox got successful because PC was bad in 2001.
Now there are other options for PC gaming, and Windows and Xbox are going to be on their way out.
What options? Guys like you keep parroting it is over for Windows for decades now and there is still no other option. The deck won't change anything either. The only serious competitor for Windows are smartphones with the nongames.

            >you are too young if you think Xbox got successful because PC was bad in 2001.
No I'm old enough to know that what Microsoft did in the early 00s was buy up or pay off a bunch of studios to downgrade their PC titles for the Xbox.

            >Guys like you keep parroting it is over for Windows for decades now and there is still no other option.
These things take time. Windows has in fact fallen from 95%+ back in the early 00s, to under 30% today.

            >The deck won't change anything either.
Over 3 million sales say otherwise. The massive influx of fake Steam accounts in China is masking how well it is doing. Deck is just the harbinger of the PC gaming market shifting away from Windows.

            >The only serious competitor for Windows are smartphones
"Smartphones" are really personal computers with a simplified UI for the general public, running a Free UNIX-like OS.
Steam Deck is a personal computer, with a simplified UI for the general public, running a Free UNIX-like OS.

As hardware that fits in the "phone" TDP gets more capable, the ability of personal computing devices that look like a "phone" being able to run Steam and play PC games becomes a possibility.
The only real question is whether AMD SoCs scale down to fit the TDP, or ARM SoCs running Box64 get fast enough.

              >3 million deck sales

So at the same time we're seeing
                >The only serious competitor for Windows are smartphones
                and
                >In what reality? Or is this the "mobile counts" thing?
Seems hard to have that both ways.

Deck is the best selling single-spec open-platform gaming system in about 30 years, and it isn't even in stores yet. You don't even need to buy a Deck to get its software stack and UI.
Xbox at '7 times more than Deck' is only a bit more than twice the user base primarily playing PC games on Linux based systems. That would have been unthinkable a few years ago.

Now what do you think is going to happen as Free UNIX-like OSes optimized for phones get access to more capable hardware, and become more like their desktop counterparts?
If Linux devs are running Steam and playing Half Life 2 on their "phones" now, how long do you think it will be before there are "phones" roughly as capable as the Deck, and Google quits neutering their Linux OSes?

                Anonymous

Both are true. You dishonestly try to imply MS has 30% marketshare. Linuxgays are always like this. On actual PC video game platform it is 90% and will always be, no deck will change this ever. Linuxgays are burying windoes for 4 decades now and they are still in the single digits.
                >Deck is the best selling single-spec open-platform gaming system in about 30 years, and it isn't even in stores yet.
                >and it isn't even in stores yet.
What does this mean, the AI is glitching?

Do you actually believe the likely course of action is linux taking over? You know what it actually is? Locked down smartphone systems will take over and linux will never be on top.

Kek, Google and Apple locked down smartphones and they will never allow anyone to come up with a free stuff. They will blacklist it from the stores and that is it. They killed Win phones, they killed Huawei and they will kill any free alternative. As soon as Gaben is buried you can bet every butthole on the planet will try to get Steam under their belt.

10 years ago is not an argument either. Nobody expected MS won't recover completely eventually. Both Nintendo and Sony had a disaster launch and they recovered. I could say it because I never liked the brand and it had been noticeably going downhill for about 3 years by chasing Wii's ghost at the time. You want to talk about unpredictability then sure, not even I could predict how bad 2013 was going to go. But MS was absolutely not in a place of good faith going into Xbone's launch, there was no reason going into 2013 to expect a reversal, even if you could just as well anticipate the hole being dug THAT much deeper. But for someone with next to zero investment in the brand, it wasn't hard to guess that whatever they did then wouldn't be for me, so why should I care if they turn it around or not?

Microsoft should just make Xbox a home computer that is also a console.

To be fair the only reason they really failed was Valve tried to go through OEMs that had a business relationship with Microsoft, and Microsoft told the OEMs they would be violating their contracts and have to pay them a boatload of money.
That's why for the second-gen Steam Machine, the Deck, Valve decided to just do it themselves.

    A little
    >PC gaming
    lol no
Their PC ports are still pretty shoddy and inconsistent.
It's Cloud gaming that they're focused on and the xCloud shards are all just souped up Series S units so I don't think you have anything to worry about

Plenty of people don't want a PC, they just want a box that will always work and run games. PC is definitely superior but every now and then you'll run into issues like having to update drivers or games older games not running well. A lot of people don't want to bother and just want a box that will automatically take care of that for them that they can turn on after work without any fuss.

Consoles were always PCs for morons, and morons still abound. Those people throwing a tantrum and threatening to go to PC are just bluffing and they will still stay with whatever console at the end of the day because if they really had two braincells to rub together they'd have been on PC a decade ago.

    >Xbox isn't a priority
Without the xbox gold money and the 30% tax they get from each sold copy, lootboxes, season passes etc xbox would disappear in a month.
Gamepass is a bleeding money machine and they can't sustain a trillion studios, a lot of them with AAA games with just PC, which on top has the smallest install base for resource heavy games.

    >PC gaming a priority
Considering most devs idea of optimisation is "Lmao get a 4090. Oh a 4090 still can't get stable high FPS? Wait for a 5090 then." it moist certainly fricking isn't.

Yes. Yes! I will live to see the Xbox and more importantly Microsoft exit the console making market! The cost of having this demonic entity in the gaming space for this long sure has had a very bad impact on gaming but I'm sure the longer they stay the further they will devolve it and sully it.

I'm going to do the same this gen as last, wait until the XSX is £100 and all the games are £4 a pop. My entire generation of gaming costs less than what most pay for their console.

      Anonymous

      >wait until the XSX is £100
It's hard to see that even happening. The XSS is still the same £250 it was 3 years ago and a good sale goes down to £200.

It's so weird to think there was a time when this board wasn't dominated by bots. You can actually see the sentiment for games/consoles rise and fall with the condition of releases. Like, before Starfield, Xbox opinion was pretty high (relative to historical trends) on this board. And then about 2 weeks before Starfield came out, the catalog has been dominated by anti-microsoft topics. You can search most of them and see they've been repeated dozens of times in the last month. Seriously. Open the catalog, and search. It's the same fricking bot posting the same anti-microsoft posts over and over.

It's extremely funny when the regurgitated shit algorithm starts breaking down, i.e. look at the first few threads when Hi-Fi Rush shadowdropped without time for an anti-shill or shitposting campaign and tell me those are normal humans

The only reason MS is releasing any games whatsoever is literally selling them on Xbox, if they removed the xbox division they would probably sell the game dev companies within a few years, their games are not profitable, they operate at a loss, they can't maintain the game division without the xbox division.

Everyone that isn't Nintendo will probably move towards dedicated PC gaming within the next 1-2 gens, ditching the shitboxes once they have real confidence that normalgay morons can competently buy/put together functioning machines, they want digital stores of their own and PC gaming is literally only held back by the barrier to entry being "needing more than a single-digit IQ," which most mutts and children that want an automatic games player don't meet. Nintendo only won't because they have enough sticking power off first-parties alone, people WILL buy a Nintendo handheld just for Smash or Zelda or Mario.

Just 10 years ago people were up in arms over the Xbone requiring you to be always online because "what if I don't have internet" and PC gaming was still mostly an afterthought to consoles in the AAA space. Two gens is more than enough real world time for shit to change further, PCs becoming convenient enough to justify it is definitely possible.

Lol the guys here would rather pretend companies like bamco and capcom don't build the games pc first then port to consoles. It's crazy how big pc gaming has gotten.

it really took Forza to make this clear to you? you didn’t notice this with Redfall, Halo Infinite and Starfield? it’s obvious Microsoft don’t give a shit and just want Gamepass to be their Netflix, they’re in the business of making vidya equivalent of an AI scripted and directed Netflix slop starring the Rock, Ryan Reynolds, Gal Gadot and Ryan Gosling

Chasing a "good gaming pc" just means constantly spending money on upgrades to stay ahead of whatever everyone else has. It's just a money sink over the console way of doing things.

Xbots ITT are trying to pretend the criticism is mostly graphical on Xbox, but from what I’ve seen its the actual content the games shipped with, it’s extremely barebones with questionable design choices on ‘levelling’ cars. it seems the Xbox hype crowd bigged this up as a GT7 killer and its barely comparable with Hot Wheels Unleashed, Microsoft just shit it out basically

  52. 8 months ago

      nothing
anyone who's actually played the xbox and pc versions of forza know the pc version is way more busted
either way, all game companies are now making players pay to be their qa department
