no. already have a deck
fpbp
Right off the bat without even looking at specs or battery it's still windows again and I see no trackpads. Deck solved UMPCs, but everyone else is too lazy to follow suit.
>Intel Arc GPU
Now this is pretty interesting. How is Intel Arc doing these days?
Unfortunately there are games that are still having problems with Arc. Starfield wouldn't run on Arc at first if I recall and the game I'm playing has a feature that doesn't even work on it. It's still got the "YMMV" disclaimer by it in my opinion
>Starfield
*pukes* also any games that don't run on my deck I'd just play them on my pc. no need to buy yet another handheld when a deck does 99% of what I need
arc is doing alright but this isn't anything like the dedicated gpus, the performance of the IGP is bad
>Now this is pretty interesting. How is Intel Arc doing these days?
Factoring in their DLSS-like solution the recent integrated intel GPUs are around series S level.
>Intel Arc
The PRODUCTS are fine, not that great. No reason to buy them over AMD, but in terms of price-performance they are better than Nvidia at least.
Alchemist the ARCHITECTURE sucks dick even compared to RDNA2, let alone RDNA3, let alone Lovelace. The A770 is a 400mm2 die, 225W... and performs like the 6600XT, which is a 237mm2 die with a 160W TDP.
The 6700XT is 335mm2, 230W, and shits on the A770 so hard it's not even funny.
Efficiency doesn't matter all that much in discrete graphics cards. As long as the product is cheap and fast, some people are going to buy it. See: AMD's Polaris in 2016-2017.
But in a handheld, efficiency is key. They can't just slap a massive die in there, push power consumption to the moon, and hope to compete with devices that require half the power to achieve the same performance. In other words, this MSI Claw thing is going to suck.
>The 6700XT is 335mm2, 230W, and shits on the A770 so hard it's not even funny.
Which driver was that result from?
From two weeks ago https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3WSqLEciEw
>only 5-10 fps difference in most cases despite 40% larger die
>for $100 less and with 4GB extra VRAM
I wouldn't say that's a loss.
Drivers are garbage, half of games don't even run or run like crap
No trackpads, no buy.
As much as I am happy to see more handhelds coming out, I'm also disappointment that none of them see how important it is to have those trackpads. I may not be able to run some of the newer games on my steam deck, but at least I can play some older games that require a mouse with ease.
Battery life also sucks in a lot of these fricking handhelds...
>No trackpads, no buy.
Yeah. Plenty of unused space on the chassis, but no trackpads for some reason...
Same. They keep configuring their systems as though people want to play AAA shit on them, but why would I want to play AAA games on a tiny display at low graphics? The best stuff to play on the deck are tycoon games, grand strategy, or crpgs. All of which need trackpads.
>Windows
dead on arrival
This.
The whole reason Steam Deck works is because Valve writes custom drivers. None of these competitors do so you get shit perf/watt.
>Valve writes custom drivers
no they don't
Valve designed the SoC with AMD.
https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/amd-van-gogh.g952
All these other competitors are just using off the shelf crap.
But Intel worked with MSI on the Claw
core ultra 7 is from their laptops. its not custom at all.
Sorry
Intel itself is still spotty as frick with games, so that doesn't mean much.
doesn't mean they wrote the driver
protip: the drivers were written by AMD
I have a Deck and just bought a 65" 4K tv so no, I will enjoy playing the same PC games on it that I've already played 50 times in fact I might play REMake twice today
Have you been in Deck threads? Countless morons have put Windows on it for some reason. I didn't realize how much it sucked until I put Mint MATE on an only ThinkPad and it went from being slow as shit to running things pretty well for a 10 year old x250
it's interesting how before the deck came out everyone said using Linux was a mistake, now it became it's biggest advantage
waiting for deck 2, so no.
If something came out that actually got why the deck was good and was a significant improvement in every category I'd get that too, were it priced appropriately.
>iNtel iGPU
>he hasn't been paying attention to Meteor Lake
have you? it's fricking garbage compared to the current AMD IGPs.
why are these 'eck competitors doing high refresh rate and 1080p LCD screens
they're always power-limited, just give them a standard OLED
What do you get without Windows License? Only BIOS?
The license cost is included in the original price, which makes it more expensive than if they had used Linux instead.
When I've used unactivated Windows 10, the only thing missing I noticed was some minor UI customization. Like color scheme and taskbar layout stuff. There's also a watermark in the corner of your screen.
I'm assuming that's how they would ship it to you but I don't know.
>no touchpads
why don't they make a good one that is modular so you can easily swap and upgrade different parts and the rest of the hardware doesn't have to be thrown away
Because they wouldnt be able to cram it into such a small form factor.
Man, I really don't get who this product and any other expensive handheld computer is supposed to be for. why not just get an actual gaming laptop at this point?
You're not getting a decent gaming laptop for $700 and anybody telling you otherwise is a liar.
>muh business laptop I upgraded
No.
I mean, I agree, but why just save for another month and get an exponentially better experience? Surely you can make ham sandwiches instead of going to McDonald's for a month, no?
I got the cheapest Razer Blade and I think I paid $2000, to upgrade from a 4060 to a 4070 would have been another $400. My desktop has a 3060ti and does everything I need, laptop makers are fricking israelites who think we need the best shit. But I also wasnt going to buy used and worry about some guys cumshots sticking between the keys
why didn't you just get a framework
I just plugged in specs similar to mine and it was already more expensive. Plus I travel a lot and anything "lightweight" sounds like a no-no for me all I need is some idiot who got drunk on a layover bumping into my bag and having it explode. Razer felt really solid when I held one in the store
>You're not getting a decent gaming laptop for $700 and anybody telling you otherwise is a liar.
you can get a laptop with RTX 3050 for $700.
IGPU is at best GTX 1650 level.
I got this laptop for $800 during boxing day. It's 10x more powerful than a Deck.
Also I'm pretty sure the igpu on the deck is only equivalent to a 950TI gtx. You can definitely get 16xx laptops, which are more powerful, for roughly $600 if you know where to look (hint: not Amazon).
Not comfy should have got a desktop
A desktop with comparable power would only cost you $500.
That's why you get a powerful desktop not a middle ground
I have a desktop with the 7800X3D and 7800XT actually. I got this laptop as a companion when traveling and stuff. I had a Deck but returned it. Too heavy, shit performance, and didn't want to deal with Linoox.
Linux is better reddit confirmed it
Still not using it.
>Ah shit, no table is around, lemme just wrap this around my shoulders, a shame I don't have space for a mouse.
That's what it /should/ cost but they jack up the prices year round and then get you to buy it at normal prices during holiday sales and stuff.
Why not both? I like my Razer Blade but its not a replacement for my PC, its so I can game when I'm away from my desktop. And there is something very cozy about gaming on a laptop, I had the flu last winter and put up a little food tray with my laptop and a controller and had fun. Blue Reflection was kinda ass but the OST was great.
>why not just get an actual gaming laptop at this point?
because it would have the same performance but you can't hold it in your hands
The point of having a handheld is that you can hold it in your hands and use it regardless of whether you're sitting or standing. With laptops you must have a surface to rest it on while you're using it. If you're standing in a long line at a convention or wherever, a laptop is not going to help you.
It's official, the Claw is for the white man
especially when they stole the design from the rog ally and even the screen has similar specs. it does nothing different to justify its presence, let alone the price
>7 inch
Jesus fricking Christ with these sizes. If I wanted a luggable I'd get a Mini-ITX system.
How about something pocket-sized that's actually portable? Like the size of a Vita at most
Can someone make an Xperia Play knockoff already? I don't want to carry two devices.
asus has you covered bro
You actually need it for PC games to guarantee max compatibility because the user interfaces are not designed for such small displays.
It's hard to use desktop Windows on a Vita-sized screen since it wasn't designed for screens that small.
>Jesus fricking Christ with these sizes.
You punk b***h.
Get on my level, trick.
I'll slap that vita out your hand you trifling ho.
7in is way too fricking small for most games already, unless you're playing a console port that's meant to be played on a tv six feet away from you
the 8.8in of the legion go is honestly the bare minimum I would go for when it comes to a 'mini pc', most games are unplayable on anything smaller than that because of how hard it is to see details and let alone readability of text
>Windows 11 Home
Problem with this is that unlike Linux where you can choose to include which components are relevant to your device's purpose, it seems you kinda have to include everything Windows 11 Home has, which can impact system performance and battery life. You can't really slim it down like you can with a customized Linux system.
You can remove plenty through a bloat uninstaller.
The only one of these that has been even remotely interesting other than the deck was that one that looks like a PSP, simply for the size of it. Unfortunately none of these are using steamOS like they should be so I'd never buy one. wangblows sucks and it sucks even harder when you have any nonstandard controls.
Tell me more about the PSP clone?
...can you not just install SteamOS on it yourself?
I hate that the new Intel iGpu's are just called Arc, so you don't really know what you are getting. And I read they also have the same compatibility issues as the Arc dGpu's, so going with AMD is still the safer option.
>No trackpads
>No gamescope functionality that comes with playing a game on linux
I used a ROG Ally on display in a best buy and I genuinely couldn't fricking believe that people unironically think using an analog stick for mouse navigation was okay.
You don't need to have 2 like the steam deck does (even though that would be preferable), just have like, at least fricking one.
wintoddlers are already used to slurping up slop, they'll tolerate basically anything (except reading)
I'm a very relatively recent Linux user, but gamescope is a hidden gem functionality for steam deck and I feel like linux users should be screaming about this from the rooftops because it has an extremely tangible benefit beyond "muh privacy, muh freedom, muh debloat".
It makes older 640x480 point and click games look amazing on large 4K TVs thanks to the inbuilt FSR, and it lets you lower resolutions in a way that is necessary for underpowered handhelds in games that don't necessarily have lower resolution/resolution scale settings. Had I known about gamescope, and how advanced DXVK made Proton in my absence from linux since using mint back in 2013 when linux had no games and was fueled by pure cope and seethe, I would have switched sooner.
The reality is most people buy a Deck because they don't understand computing so getting them to look I to Linux outside of the SteamOS launcher is nigh impossible
linux users don't play video games
steam deck users don't know what a gamescope is and don't give a shit
What do you mean? There's an entire community dedicated to getting Windows games to work on Linux.
Hi, I play games, but then again, I only got into linux after the steam deck tangibly proved to me all my shit just worked, cause there's no fricking way I would have switched if all I could play was SuperTuxKart and Xonotic.
zoomers will just use a touch screen. but also, you can just launch into steam big picture and use your controller.
Don't have a Rog but I tried one out and between armory crate for your custom executables and steam big picture mode you never really need to go into windows past the first setup and if you really had to for whatever reason, you can always just use the touchscreen or plug in a mouse. Hell my friend has a dock that he plugs into his steam deck then uses a wireless mouse on anyways. It's all the same shit.
Is this available in the uk?
Very interested in picking up either this or the legion go.
It's weaker than the Ally so I wouldn't bother.
If you're thinking of a Windows handheld it's Ally or the Go
Guess I’ll get the go then. Thanks for the heads up.
Pros/cons of go?
It's biggest pro and con is Windows. You get what you put into it.
Don't own one, but was looking into it a lot when deciding which handheld to buy.
Pros:
>Amazing screen. Put them side by side with the OLED Deck and you'll see it's even better
>Detachable joycons are great when you want to set it down on a table with a kickstand and play even FPS games
>Trackpad on the right is a nice bonus
>Lenovo is actually decently supporting it with regular updates
>More powerful than a Deck, slightly weaker than an Ally
Cons:
>Software is still shit and has tons of bugs
>Portrait display will probably never get fixed
>Windows
>Expensive. Way for a big sale like the Rog Ally before buying imo
Yes the Legion Space software is trash but can be ignored for now. The deamon is fine however.
Pros:
+Great screen, and is big enough for desktop applications, I've bought one while in japan and planned for comiket and later ripped CDs with it.
+Detachable handles let you use it as a tablet, the right one doubles as a mouse with an optical sensor and a scroll wheel
+Screen resolution lets you use integer scaling
+Decent support
Cons:
-Heavy, not for manlet hands
-Ok at best speakers
-Fan can get loud
-Legion space sucks, but you don't have to use it
-Windows.
If you want to buy a laptop you can actually use without a desk it will cost you 3x more than that, and they still get too hot.
hardware is fantastic, would be a 10/10 if the trackpad was better, but then again a lot of people don't care about trackpads (you should), so ymmv
software is absolute fricking garbage and you're forced to stick with third party fixes for anything, also you can't use steam to fiddle with your gyro because it shits the bed completely
if software wasn't absolutely fricking shit, it'd be a great piece, also works if you're a linuxtard and you know what you're doing, then there's plenty of linux distros trying their hand (and somewhat succesfully so) supporting the legion go
based go enjoyer
the screen is MASSIVE and the colors pop nearly as much as an OLED display, I know this from personal experience as I compared a switch and deck OLED but there's also videos doing so if you don't believe me. the SD card slot unlike the rog ally, the controllers are detachable and feel great in the hand, the thing has two USB C ports compared to the deck and ally, you also get 1440p 140hz, lastly I read that steam os runs amazing on it but I haven't tried it yet
All of these things except the Deck have awful UI and considering how bad Dragon Center is there's no chance this one won't be absolutely busted either
i don't understand the giant handheld meme
i don't wanna play AAA slop at 25fps with an hour of battery life
i want a Vita sized handheld with a good screen, simpler games and better battery life
>i don't wanna play AAA slop at 25fps with an hour of battery life
You're not meant to though
>games made exclusively for a handheld
doesnt even exist anymore, even the switch has to be huge just to run games at an almost acceptable level
Then buy one like that. People that act like not every kind of handheld exists at this point need to be hanged. The market is completely oversaturated and there is no ending in sight.
You just created a scenario that doesn't exist to explain one these devices service lol
What you need to understand about these handheld PCs is that they're just repackaged laptops. They literally use generic laptop parts. It's just a gimmick for these companies to sell you their laptop tech. They're never gonna stop being made but on the other hand there's 0 reason to buy one of these things instead of a laptop.
Okay poorgay. A deck is a drop in the ocean on my finances lmao
>there's 0 reason to buy one of these things instead of a laptop.
playing games on the couch with a laptop would be objectively worse than on a handheld pc, dummy.
>playing games on the couch with a laptop would be objectively worse than on a handheld pc, dummy.
would it? I play games on my laptop on the couch all the time. I like the bigger screen. If I don't want to lay it on my lap I can just set up a little table to stand it on.
>simpler games
what the frick does that even mean
you can play simple games on a steam deck
Dude I played Persona 4G on my Vita earlier this week while sick and I'm pretty sure I got like 4-5 hours on medium brightness before I got up to grab a charge pack
When is steam deck 2?
Hopefully Valve will wait until Zen 5 and RDNA 4 release later this year so they won't be a generation behind.
Intel iGPU is questionable, but with Iris and Arc sort of not being shit finally it's not as bad as it could be.
It's funny to think, but the biggest turn off for this thing is Windows --Windows really needs to catch up to SteamOS when it comes to PC handhelds. Way too jank right now.
If you want to use Windows to game on the go in something approaching this form factor, getting a 13 inch laptop with a reasonable GPU to keep it from being overly bulky would be a way better way to go about it.
To be fair if you're gaming on the go you can avoid seeing windows via big picture if you're playing games you setup beforehand. But then you have to do shit like disable Windows login
>intel
>windows 11 home
>no touch pads
I have a steam dick oled and its meh. I don't even really enjoy playing in bed there's no comfortable gaming positions besides sitting upright against a wall with your knees up and a pillow as a rest for your arms.
Get a gaming laptop with a bugger screen better yet build an am4 1080p budget PC instead with a 1080p 21" screen
>Asymmetric thumb sticks
God please stop doing this you fricking deformed mutants. I'll be stuck on steam deck forever it seems
I already got a Rog Ally which was superior to the Deck so unless the Claw has noticeable increases in performance and battery life I will not buy it.
I just fundamentally don't understand the purpose of these devices. I get that in Asia they like portable consoles (Nintendo) because they live in tiny ass houses and probably either share a TV or only have one shitty low quality TV in one room, so okay it's nice to be able to have your console come with its own screen. But these things are marketed at the west where people have bigger homes and usually aren't sharing a television.
Bed and travel. Sometimes I bring it into my kitchen to watch TV while I cook.
>But these things are marketed at the west where people have bigger homes and usually aren't sharing a television.
Eh maybe if you live alone, but some people live with friends or family and not having to hog the TV or PC is nice. My dad is currently staying at my place for reasons and he's a boomer so I let him have the TV while I play shit on the couch with my Rog it's pretty comfy.
And I guess if you travel on the train or airplane a lot it could be nice pulling these out especially if your method of travel doesn't have entertainment systems. I wouldn't ever use it for day to day stuff though since it's too big and heavy.
>Get my steam deck
>Don't expect to use it very much
>Realize my power bill rate increases 400% in between the hours of 4 to 9 PM where I live
>ohshit.jpg
>start using 'eck in between that time
>Even solar power it with a cheapo jackery and fold up panel
>family crisis happens, have to visit someone in the hospital often, it's amazing how much I end up using my deck since there's no table to put a laptop on
>sometimes get /comfy/ playing my 'eck outside as the sun comes up and I sip some matcha tea, or underneath an awning while it's raining, sometimes you don't realize how stuffy your room is while you play vidya till you've done this
I just got a deck cause of the control scheme at first, and no other reason. Having 2 touchpads and 2 grip triggers on each side AS WELL as 2 analog sticks is extremely valuable if you're a steam input autist like me, but I ended up finding a shitload of uses for the portability that I didn't expect. Also playing in bed is really cozy, and the quick access menu that lets you framecap and clock speed change was something I never expected to touch but it fundamentally made me rethink my approach to how I pursue framerate limits even on my RTX 3090 PC.
>family crisis happens
Same, I bought the Go on impulse and the chunky fricker made shit so much easier, plus its my workstations. Different strokes for different folks
>$799: Core Ultra 7 / 1TB SSD
this fricker is €949 in my country
I can get 2 steam decks for that price
controllersfor phones are $60-$120. My phone lasts longer, works with usb charging and batteries, already has emulators built for it, im taking it with me already, and is probably just as if not more powerful.
These handheld gaming pcs are dumb.
lol not even $1500 phones can keep up with the shit deck
This is false. Galaxy s24 is more powerful than the deck
https://browser.geekbench.com/v6/cpu/1084273
https://browser.geekbench.com/v6/cpu/4540123
Others had a different measurement where the compute score for the s21 was higher than the regular score for the steam deck.
Are your phones capable of running PC games, say elden ring?
Poorly. I have the 14 Pro Max and it could run it like shit, likely but I havent tried since I have a 3060ti desktop that ran it fine at 60fps 1440p
And no before anyone asks I do not get the newest model every single year. I had the Samsung Galaxy 2, then the iPhone 3, then the 8+ and finally this one, probably won't upgrade for years.
How did you get it to run?
I do know they have different architecture but given the switches popularity and the increased funding of arm architecture (because everyone buys phones and the mobile gaming market is the largest) I doubt that the several decades statement will hold.
I meant "could" as in "potentially could" I didnt try to run it because I have a perfectly decent PC I wanted to enjoy it on.
Is the deck actually capable of it?
Depending on how piraty you want to get there are apk files that either are the game or are a layer to run the game through.
This also doesnt address the root problem of portability. Carrying around even more devices is unweildy. We have companies throwing out hardware flop after hardware flop instead of just letting devs figure out that they should be porting or designing to top end mobile devices then porting from there. Elden ring "on the go but only when I actually remember to bring it and then when I actually want to go to my car to get it" Isnt worth much of anything.
>Is the deck actually capable of it?
yes, it's pretty ubiquitous since it's an actual x86_64 computer and comes with all benefits such as moddable bethesda games.
it sounds like your android phone is not exactly capable of running x86_64 games, this is due to a fundamental different in their architecture. To simplify this, mobile phones are running on an ARM architecture, this means some heavy frickery is needed to effectively translate a x86_64 game to run an ARM based OS, this most likely would result in degraded performance everywhere. This doesn't happen with the deck or most of the other handheld PCs because they're x86_64 devices just like every other console on the market. this won't be changing any time soon for at least several decades.
are you stupid? A17 Pro bionic gets almost 3 times faster single-core and 2 times faster multi-core score performance than Steam Deck on GeekBench test. If not for ARM architecture, it would totally mog any x86 CPU in gaming.
I'm starting to understand how applegays feel about windows pcs, none of these steam deck derivatives have yet to beat Valve in terms of software, optimization and ergonomics.
They slap windows 11 with their laggy ass frontend software and call it a day.
Couldn't you just put Linux on one of them anyways? I installed Mint on a PC running W7, so unless W11 has something that doesn't allow you to do that I don't see why you couldn't.
You can but that doesn't count
It depends on how specialized the APU inside the thing is, like, drivers have to exist for that APU, that's why it was a big deal when Bazzite, ChimeraOS, and Nobara Project got deck images.
Yes. It's the same dualbooting Windows on the Deck.
I haven't used it but supposedly Bassite is huge for Legion Go users. From what I have seen however most people with thise devices think they're buying a game boy advance
Why wouldn't I just upgrade my PC instead of spending 800 fricking dollars on a handheld with inferior performance?
Do both or are you poor?
Rich people don't waste money like you do moron
Posting Lucky, The Msi Dragon in thread!
>not OLED
Fricking worthless
He also helps you install your GPU. But it's tiresome work.
>whole ps5+ price for a slightly better steam deck
hard no thanks. steam deck and ps portal are so much better value
If you have any one of these handheld PC devices, even steam deck, you don't need a PS portal, cause all PS portal is is a remote play device, which is functionality any linux or windows PC has.
Why do they bother making these without trackpads? There are so many older good games on PC, that require mouse control. It's at least as important as processor power.
>Intel
>headed by a white christian
>building fabs in Arizona
Intel is not a israeli company
Arizona and Florida are the two states that come to mind when I think about "old NYC israelites retiring." There were a shitload of israelites when I went to Sedona.
It's so over
intel was founded and headquartered in California by an american like basically every other tech company, where did the "intel is a israeli company" meme company and why are people so gullible that they believe everything read on Ganker?
Calm down Rabbi it's only bantz
>uh actually i was just joking nobody actually believes that i swear
yeah the defense morons will always go to
wow, that was difficult
Neither Moore nor Noyce were israeli. Grove was. Rock was just an investor, not a founder
>Rock was just an investor, not a founder
read the article Black person. it clearly says he owned part of the original stock dispensation, which makes him a founder. Grove had no ownership so he isn't a founder, he's a ground level employee.
imagine arguing about details when you don't even know the meaning of the words
that was neither the question nor the relevant part of the answer
>yeah but an investor was israeli!
that is basically every company, welcome to finance.
I'll wait for reviews.
Planning to buy one of these but can't decide. Right now it feels
Eck Oled=Legion Go>Ally
OLED is weaker but obviously you'll tweak less. It depends how experienced you are and tolerant of windows bullshit
If you care about performance you shouldn't be getting handhelds in the first place.
There is a noticable difference in image quality moron.
You can play more games on the Windows ones right now it's that simple.
Jealous poorgays shouldn't here 😉
Deck performs just fine for a handheld. If I want to play in unlocked FPS I have a desktop for that. They're really not interchangeable products. One is a handheld gaming device that sacrifices performance for portability and one sacrifices portability for performance
Just wait for the Steam Deck OLED price to drop.
It's too expensive currently.
Yeah with how aggressively valve has been pricing the deck I'd say oled is due for its first sale in the next 1-3 months.
That boat has sailed, they realize they control the market unopposed, it's all downhill from here.
There has never been more competition in this space.
There is no competition, not a single one of these can measure up and Valve knows it. Deck 2 will probably retail for $600 or something.
Not locked down, but unsupported, you can install projects that make it universal like HoloISO or distros built around deck mode for a similar experience like Nobara Deck Edition, but a few things break from what I've read.
That said, even if get something like SteamOS going it's still a crippled experience, trackpads are more necessary than you think.
It's a PC, it has all games. Why is laptop buyer's remorse so intense? Just sell it lol, you clearly aren't happy.
I got a Legion Go for £550 and it's been great for my use.
>handheld
>ULTRAPOWERED
How long is the battery going to last at max settings?
1 and half
under two hours. My bet is 90 minutes.
Meteor Lake is more power efficient than Ryzen due to the way the CPU tiles are arranged. The notebook version won all the power efficiency benchmarks, although it's still losing to apple M2. It also has a much bigger battery capacity than the Ally or Deck.
Sounds like a decent game machine if you think Deck lacks the kick it needs and don't need trackpads. You should at any given time if possible support Taiwanese over Chinese any time.
Deck is a great starter console
Gabes gonna sue somebody.
How? They don't break any trademark or copyright with this product, its a handheld that has competing tech in it and has a different design completely to the steam deck, plus no trackpad.
Aside from the obvious part of basic form factors not being something you can copyright or patent, Gabe is probably very happy other companies are also making hand helds themselves; Valve makes only thin margins on the Deck itself, but makes plenty on people buying Steam games. Almost all of these other x86 handhelds will get Steam installed on them shortly after purchase, leading to more yacht money for Gabe.
asdf
Why can't these Windows portables just copy the Deck's aesthetic? Why do they all have to be obnoxious le gamer rainbow blasters?
Go is close
Nah. If I'm leaving my house I'm either at work, shopping or doing something Ganker or magical. After seeing a fat 40 yo playing with a deck on his lunch break at work, you kind of realize how stupid it looks to play gaymes in public. I'd just buy a new cpu for my desktop instead
>admits he doesn't have a cute boyfriend
Self own
>120hz screen
>barely runs games at 30fps
They're scamming so bad that it's insane.
I have no use for a handheld, no.
>Intel Steam Deck competitor
>120hz display

Dead in the water tbh
>$800
lol I'll buy a laptop where i can use it for things like content creation and a frick ton of other activities.
nah those bezels are way too big. sorry, marketer.
If the Ally 2 has a bigger battery and no SD card problems, it'll be the best windows handheld. It already has the best cooling system.
this, i dont know what could justify the £100 extra money comapred to the ally
Cash moron
> 100 pound extra money
Lol where are the track pads? These companies don't understand pc gaming at all
Only bought a deck because I don't understand computers. It's great for that.
Why don't they still not realise trackpads are not optional? It lets you play so many more games that don't have dedicated controller support.
I think it's because 99% of what I play is horror but I only ever used the trackpads for Fatal Frames 4 and 5 because their on-board controller support makes the game control like this. I think I used them for Gnosia too. What do most people use them for, RTS games? I would just get a wireless MKB for that.
I don't use them on deck for anything. Not necessary
>find out you can replace the stylus controls of Kid Icarus Uprising with the trackpad
I can never go back to the 3DS again, its so good.
It depends on what you want to play. Obviously for most people it IS optional since normalgays, the demographic handhelds are being pandered to in the first place, are used to gamepad controls and are mostly using the handhelds to play PC games with existing controller support. And before you say anything, yes the Deck does pander to casuals. Valve went through great lengths to streamline the experience to make it as plug n' play as possible.
That said, for my own personal use case, any game that "requires" a mouse I'd mostly prefer playing with M+KB anyways. I've seen Deck shills brag about playing stuff like AoE2 and C&C on it but I personally hate the cramped screen and mouse always feel better anyways.
>intel
>$700
>Intel GPU
Nope.
The $300 Oudated Vega ayaneo sounds way better.
Very excited for the terrible benchmarks and MSI build quality complaints, personally.
The fact they went intel instead of AMD leaves me interested, but not enough to actually buy one. Hope it pans out, the shitty amd all-in-ones have been a complete disaster for everything but the deck.
that thing is hideous. why does everything MSI designs look like something a parody brand in the Sleeping Dogs universe would make?
>it's the first Intel powered
Why would I want this?
AMD is leaps and bounds ahead in APUs.
Steam Decks were basically lower binned PS5 chips.
Know what's the saddest thing about pajeets? They're just aping applegays and their deranged ARM shilling, it's not even an agenda of their own, they're placing second fiddle AGAIN.
>Intel iGPU
Nope, just got a 4070 ti Super, granted I got it for just under MSRP and plan to get a Switch 2 whenever it inevitably releases in the next year or so.
>Will you buy it?
No, why would I spend 700$ for a piece of trash?
I spent $800+ on a 4K flatscreen I will use for the Superbowl and Stellar Blade, maybe some early 2000's Sapphic Erotica and Jordan Capri videos. But thats it
>700 dollars
no, I will not be buying it
>asymmetrical thumbsticks
I feel like the only real competitor to the deck is Aya Neo Air since it is actually the size of Switch. Too bad it costs like 3 decks.
'um on the 'law
>ultra
please tell me this is a funny marketing term replacement for ultra-low-voltage. i mean, obviously it makes sense for this kind of device, but rebranding U(LV) cpus into "ultra" would be beyond hilarious
Its a term for me going plus ultra to make my Deck work
>cuck cores
Ha!
It seems valve really got a hit with deck, not because it was the best but because it came in the right place, the right time.
So can you install steamdesk os on these things or has valve locked it down?
>runs Windows 11
>no trackpads
>120Hz screen (for some reason)
Yet another company trying to make an 'eck competitor without realizing why it's so popular.
It can join the likes of the ROG Ally and the Lenovo Legion Go in irrelevancy.
>Suddenly everyone wants to play their desktop PC games on tiny screens with their thumbs instead of using a laptop.
Why tho? The Steam Deck is a console with literally no games. None of the devs on steam are making "steam deck" games. Plus the battery is terrible. You end up playing shitty 2D games from some unknown publisher while the literal child next to you is playing the newest NIntendo shit. The hell is the attraction to this thing?
basically 90% of steam games are "steam deck" games moron
No they're desktop games you're playing on an overpriced laptop with a x-box controller duct taped to it.
But why would you want to play non-mobile games like they're mobile games? Do people think that The Witcher 3 will be better if you can play it while taking a shit or on a bus?
Crusader Kings 3 while taking a shit is very comfy.
Well I can't deny that it sounds comfy.
The controls are better than laptops, and its easier to carry around and play without a table.
