The remakes were good even though i hate the gen4 engine. I played them senior year of hs and I wore the pokewalker during track.

I dont know about the remakes but the OG games are amazing and the only way to not see it is be so far ahead into PKMN autism that you lost track of why it works so well as a stand alone game and as a sequel to blue/red.
The sheer ambition, original ideas, refinement of the original formula and ability to surpass everybody's expectations just hasnt been replicated by any other subsequent game in the franchise. You could tell they were mostly thinking about leaving the franchise there.
Because GS was originally intendes to literally be a single game titled Pokemon 2 that was a direct sequel.
Later generations are not sequels so they didn't get to refine anything and they only had one chance with getting everything right. It had a positive effect of making each gen feel unique and some will argue this was a good choice.
But umm sweatie I can't get Houndour until the post game and the gym leaders don't use Gen 2 pokemon

The problem with all Pokemon game's is that you're never really forced to play the game properly until the battle frontier at best. A real ranking would be of rom hacks, which Drayano's hacks are the most fun because it's the perfect middle ground.
Difficulty hacks suck because they have every trainer use competitive strats but this is annoying because competitive battles assume fair 1v1 with both teams at full health.
Dray hacks are so good because he doesn't use comp teams but teams that a veteran non competitive player would consider good so no shit like suicide entry hazard setters etc but the mons have beneficial natures, good coverage and hard hitting moves. Status too but nothing too try hard. He also adds a lot of QoL and small fixes to the hacks. Pokemon changes also follow the rule of cool more than trying to fulfill smogon's wet dreams of overbalanced meta.
Crystal Legacy is superior.

Rental Pokemon are not the intended way to play Stadium. They were added solely so dumb kids who got Stadium but didn't own other Pokemon games didn't have a brick of a game. They made the rentals shit on purpose to encourage you to use actual Pokemon.
