There are lots of quests about them and their influence, given their connection to Deathwing, and the quest involving the hourglass / time-travelling back to the Black Empire reveals that we might have been the ones who set up N'zoth's rise to power in the first place because of our time-fuckery, nevermind the fact that he got entirely new dialogue in that scenario while every other god used their old lines.

But the character arcs they got were absolutely terrible and further destroyed their already ruined characters. The best thing that can happen to a character in the Warcraft universe is being deleted or forgotten so the writing team can't utterly annihilate anything good about them, which is what has happened to any character they gave the spotlight. WoW has managed to cannibalize and wreck every single character from the RTS franchise it touched, and pretty much all of their own original characters as well, though virtually none of those were any good to begin with.
Thinking about Fem Thrall reminds me that they shat up Etrigg (alongside every other major orc character) just for the sake of their stupid "it's called WARcraft" expansion.

Why do WoWfags do this? The problem with the writing is far deeper and more widespread than the writers focusing on one or the other faction more, or who's "winning" in a conflict that will never be resolved by dint of the games core design. The writing is SHIT regardless, who cares if the Alliance characters get more focus, all that means is that those characters are ruined ever more completely every time they show up.
It's not like ANY character in the entire history of WoW was written well, so the only thing showing up more frequently in the story means is you will have that character do stupid, dumb, or outright nonsensical things that outright contradict things they've done or said before, all to push the garbage "story" of whatever the current xpac is or generate "drama" or "shock" that ultimately doesn't really matter anyway. WoW hasn't had a single good, coherent storyline in its entire history, the only time Warcraft lore was even close to decent was during the RTS franchise, and at this point WoW has cannibalized and run out every single character they can from that, so even that small spark is gone. There is no salvaging this franchise, it's done, and even moreso considering the current writers are the ones who put the lore into this pathetic state to begin with.

But cosmic shit wouldn't be an issue if him and his team during WoD to BFA didn't burn through the last remaining big bads and a bunch of lore characters for rule of cool moments.
Stuff like Night Warrior and the teasers for Shadowlands was a thing before he got fired and the retcons to Demon lore and Titan lore that that era caused, we're still suffering the ripples of effects from to this day.

It's an open secret that the writing team didn't like the direction Sylvanas was taken in BFA. Thus it became their goal to try and unfuck/salvage her character in Shadowlands. But writing room issues kept coming up and the constant blizzard sex pest drama that kept causing halts and rewrites when they had to cut storylines/patches/content.
There's a reason her novel was originally supposed to come out early Shadowlands but constantly got delayed until after 9.2 to try and finally justify the three different character arcs she had in Legion, BFA and Shadowlands
It was clear even back in Classic that she was not really a "good guy" or even really thinks of herself as a part of the Horde. Her going Super Villain made sense, more than Garrosh. Them pussing out and/or saving MUH QUEEN is really fucking stupid. The most ass pull, Mary Sue bullshit I've seen outside of actual fanfic.
But I'll say this, out of all the trash surrounding her for once I actually cared about and even... LIKED Nathanos. It was right before he died. That little cutscene had more character and personality to it then the decade+ of him existing in game.

All of the WoW writing team is terrible, do you really think the ones that stayed are any good? The writing has not improved since those writers were fired.
Even when it's the truth? WoW never had good writing, ever, it never produced a single good storyline, all it did was cannibalize the lore of the RTS games until it destroyed that in the process, as well. WoW got carried purely off its solid atmosphere due to zone design and music, and the music fell off a cliff once they fired their best composers after WoD, and the zone design completely died in Shadowlands. There's nothing left in this game to admire or enjoy on an aesthetic level, especially considering that it has terrible art design on top of it being run on an ancient, outdated framework.

Yeah it was fun to play through those zones because they had fantastic design and great music, Azuremyst Isle is still my all time favorite zone in any MMO, but the reality is the actual writing in WoW was always subpar or outright terrible. And it only got worse as the series progressed, rather than improving, Vanilla is still probably the best in terms of story in the entirety of the games history and that is ridiculously pathetic.
WoW should've either given up on the story altogether or actually improved it and made it a solid part of the overall experience, instead they didn't do either of these things and made the story more relevant but actually had the writing get worse leading to a worst of both worlds scenario where the lore was being actively ruined every time a new story came out. They should've either let sleeping dogs lie, or handled it with actual skill. Instead they butchered every character, every storyline, and at this point, the franchise and setting itself. I don't even know if you could salvage WoW with a straight up centuries long timeskip, that's how bad it is at this point.

This is kind of the end of any MMO, since the gameplay required a near infinite pool of enemies unless you get Kaelthas for the 33rd time.
Honestly, I don't consider the writing to be terrible all around, and most people who do fail to cite specific examples. There's been some stand out moments that were downright bad (Like Thrall's gf in Cata), but at the end of the day it comes down to preference. If you don't like it you won't but by that I'd assume you wouldn't like any MMO's story, since they're all just as 'good'.

Even Korean shit has a more tangible and thought out storylines than WoW, it actually has progression of the main themes and resolution to what's happening. Ulduar was the single best raid of WotLK. ICC was good, but Ulduar was fantastic. Both were far better than BT or Hyjal, and Ulduar was on par with Kara.

Siege of Orgrimmar would have benefited by having the first four bosses be in their own raid and then having the actual Org bosses be more non-linear. The fact you have to run the first nine bosses in a row, every time, before you get to the branching makes it a slog. Being able to pick and choose what you're progressing on makes raids better.

Theres a reason everyone likes Court of Stars (dungeon from legion, returning in DF) - It's short, it has randomized layouts, it has positive buffs and each pack of the dungeon plays succinctly different without being overloaded with stuns or lethal spells. Mostly because it's short though (25 mins). And the story attached to it means nothing, it's a completely isolated little scenario.
Compare this to like Halls of Infusion or something, which is more like a vanilla dungeon. 45 minute slogfest with huge, expansive interiors, beautiful graphics. But it's just so fucking long

I think there is room for both, at least to a degree.
I also think that Court of Stars is the gold standard of modern dungeons, minus the stupid minigame at the end maybe. But something like Blackrock Depths is an actual masterpiece in endgame design that isnt exactly like m+. You had this massive dungeon complex thats interconnected with a fuckload of reasons to enter. People form groups to tackle a specific wing or boss of it. Others want to clear it all. There is reasons to return there too. There's shit for professions, shit for reputations, unlocks for raids, there is multiple ways to tackle several parts of it, there's random bosses too. It rewarded deep knowledge of all the gimmicks of the place and a lot of it was unconventional.
BRD is not typical for a vanilla dungeon though, nothing else in the game came close to it. Maybe it was just a fluke.
But still I kinda miss that currently there isnt much of a gate to stuff outside of ilevel from m+ and raids. m+ homogenized loot to a degree where people only care about specific trinkets. I'd like for them to have some sort of unlocks that require you to go places and do stuff. That generates gameplay in different ways. Attunements were fine too TBC just overdid it and soured everybody in it. But even Wrath had something like having to kill Sapphiron to unlock Malygos by giving one player the key to it. Thats soulful stuff but also less formulaic and takes more effort to implement I guess.
I've been playing some older MMOs recently and while certain unlocks can be a ballache they are rewarding in their own ways too and they add some variety.

His stuff is definitely kind of over-represented nowadays and it's not so le heckin scary as many people would have you believe, but his writing is pretty good and interesting. Take the opening quote from the Call of Cthulhu, it sets the tone of the rest of the book pretty well and should give you a good indication as to whether you'd like his stuff or not:

I mean I bet half the people who include "Lovecraftian elements" in their games haven't actually read his works and just put tentacles and le spooky aliens, Blizz definitely just does that.
His shit is usually just spooky, not scary, but its got nice atmosphere to it. I personally like his stuff not directly related to the old gods, but rather loosely related, or not related at all. As an example, my favorite story of his is a short story called "Herbert West: Reanimator!" which follows the life of a friend of Herberts, who helped him during college with experiments on trying to resurrect the dead. Also you'll quickly notice with lovecraft that he really likes university settings if you read any of his books, or listen to audio novels or dramas of it.
I read like 10-20 of his stories.
They're alright, most of them feel kind of bland but I guess it's due to the fact a lot of the aspects that made them unique back in the day have become much more widespread today.
There are outliers though, some have really interesting and original concepts that stand out even today or are simply really well executed.

Demon follow-up expansion feels needed. They just dropped demons as a plot concept immediately. I think there was literally 1 demon rare spawn in BfA that barely addressed the issue.
Also, people debate, but the status is still unclear. Does the defeat of Argus mean no more demonic resurrection? Shadowlands implies yes. Does the defeat of Sargeras and Argus imply that all demons are free of demonic control now, like the Orcs after defeating Mannoroth? Cause I think those 2 things would make for a much more interesting story.

I highly fucking doubt they will EVER do a Cata 2.0. The first time they did it, it set the company back to the point that they never recovered. If anything it's gonna be a few zones that are updated because for one reason or another they fit in to the current events.
BUT, before I've said for a while now that a "Cata 2.0" that brings all the zones to the current time frame is needed but instead of just Kalimdor/Eastern Kingdoms it would be ALL of the zones. Outland? Yep. Northernd? yep. Pandaria? yep. You get the idea.

they’ve solved this with phasing and an npc that can send you back to the old version since they’ve fucked up so many zones for events by now, cata didn’t do this and was also extremely obnoxious about it sometimes like 1k needles
I don't think they're pivoting into it actually being an old god expansion (a la BfA), but this zone is meant to be where Deathwing was based during the period where he got corrupted by them so it's not surprising that there are some signs of them in the area.
I think the lore pivot is that somehow void is necessary for organic life, or something because the implication is that Neltharion needed void shit to make the Dracthyr and Draconid.

Do you think giant retarded monsters are required for this? You can easily do something with more intrigue. Vanilla had no problems with escalating the Defias Brotherhood for example, they start out as generic bandits but then you learn their lore and realize they're developing a super-weapon. Then they appear later too as more corruption appears in Stormwind's leadership and it involves scheming dragons.
The Horde doesn't even have a leader anymore, the orcs, trolls and undead have literally nobody, it's just a big council with nobody at the helm. But actually writing that would require some understanding of how to create a compelling, believable story.
And it didn't end there, it continued to escalate with a certain dragon flight. Again, escalation and urgency. It's also not the only time a small group ended up having bigger plans.

Class balance is currently fantastic with the best and worst classes only having miniscule differences in dps. So it's quite nice being able to play what you want when you want instead of having to adhere to an autistic meta.

Except it's not. You didn't have to kill off the characters WoW killed off, you could've put in other loot pinatas in their place, and some didn't even get fights, they just died. Hell, you can even have a fight and still have the character survive, that's why Jaina is still around, so if you absolutely MUST have a major character as a raid boss, it doesn't mean they need to die if their death would be bad for the overall narrative and story structure. But there barely even is a narrative or story structure to WoW so it doesn't really fucking matter anyways.
