It was an evolution of the point and click genre. A fun house intended to be explored with puzzles meant to be solved in a certain order with scary monsters peppered throughout. It was the right kind of game that dropped at just the right time
You must be confused, OP's picture isn't of Alone in the Dark it's of a knockoff called Resident Evil.
billions of dollars generated by an intellectual property whose every outing is some fat boomer jumping
Goes to show a simple well executed concept is all you need. They kept trying to up the stakes every single sequel and eventually went too far and crashed.
standards weren't very high for videogames back then
Close, but no. Sweet Home is the game Resident Evil is based on.
>Close, but no. Sweet Home is the game Resident Evil is based on.
While the Sweet Home movie was made at the same time to coincide with the game...

!!!FACT!!!
We all gotta start somewhere, OP.
And he was a good friend.
sometimes I imagine if resident evil 1...but good.
somehow indies haven't been able to improve on RE1 still all these years later
>sometimes I imagine if resident evil 1...but good.
So RE1R?
>movement speed is slower
>waste time on drawn out animations
>wash out all the colours
>give every room the same dull and dreary aesthetic
>constant thunder and lighting (except when you're actually outside of course)
>insert the dumbest monster in the series up to that point, an immortal teenage girl with tentacles that says real English words and has a secret crypt in the main path to the lab, where you witness her awkwardly jump into the abyss
>somehow manages to have voice actors even less engaged with the material
lolno
thunder and lighting (except when you're actually outside of course)
This one is really weird because pre-release footage shows a storm raging in outdoor areas and water running everywhere. I'm not a fan at all of the look they went with for the Remake but even I'll admit it looked cool.
There was an interview in Famitsu where the devs said that the storm effects were fully doable on the Gamecube, but when it came to actually playing the game nobody could see shit on most CRTs while running through those areas with lightning constantly flashing the whole screen in white. There were also concerns that the flashing would cause epileptic seizures, and Japan cracked down on that shit hard after the whole Porygon incident in 1997 no matter the age rating.
>sometimes I imagine if resident evil 1...but good.
So Onimusha?
>somehow indies haven't been able to improve on RE1 still all these years later
Every now and then I wonder why no one has tried to capitalize on the RE/Silent Hill audience. Games inspired by 90s retro FPS titles have enjoyed a renaissance over the past 5 or so years. Only major hurdle I can think of is that the amount of prerendered backgrounds required would mean a lot of work by talented artists.
>israelite is jealous of the fact that good (humans) can create and that evil (jews) cannot create but can only subvert and destroy
See
>combat like aitd
>inventory like aitd
>puzzles like aitd
>Kamiya said it was aitd
yup RE1 is totally an NES era jrpg
Alone in the Dark is dogshit with only superficial similarities to Resident Evil.
except alone in the dark was more advanced. there are no inventory boxes, you can put anything down anywhere and it will stay.
It's a shitty point and click in 3D.
pretty good for 1992
doom doesn't even use 3D models and came out a year later
>bad cops
4 of them survived a house infested with bio weapons.
>It's a video game about a shady corporation doing illegal experiments in an isolated lab.
>The virus they were working with got out and zombified all the personnel living there.
>Also, the bio monsters they were breeding escaped and are on the loose in the facility.
>Your unprepared special forces team is sent into the situation blind and gets picked off by the monsters one by one.
>In a shocking twist, one of your team members is revealed to be a traitor tasked with killing any survivors, including your fellow team members, and covering up all evidence of the outbreak.
Resident Evil? No, I'm talking about Hamlet for the PC-98. Later remade as Space Griffon VF-9 on the Playstation and Dreamcast.
and it was pure kino
Being on the PS1 helped it immensely. Here was a game with cool FMV sequences that actually required FMV sequences to pull them off, being put on a new console that was so new literally any new IP could crawl to the top without worrying about Mario, Zelda, and Donkey Kong.
So for anyone that played the original back in the day without getting spoiled, was the twist that it's all a bunch of mad science experiments instead of spooky supernatural shit actually surprising?
lol no. The box, the manual, and every single piece of advertising told you exactly what was going on.
>Bad cops
Anon, S.T.A.R.S is essentially a SWAT team

Why couldn't they just remake 2 & 3 in the same style as REmake bros?...
