My praises
>The sheer quantity and variety of all songs in the game is astounding; even with a flawed selection there's still hundreds of great tunes in the game
>The crossover appeal of the game extends to the soundtrack, with several all-timer composers working on franchises they'd have never touched otherwise
>Several inspired remixes, especially those pertaining to obscure ass games
My complaints
>Disproportionately unbalaced attention paid to some series whereas others haven't seen a new remix since Brawl
>Especially notorious in Smash Wii U but also seen in Ultimate: picks that seem there more to represent whatever new games are out rather than the songs themselves being any good or memorable whatsoever
>A side effect of the above: Old games with no-brainer OSTs going largely ignored in favor of the latest flavor, no matter if the new songs aren't anywhere as good (subverted when K. Rool made the staff look back on some great DKC tunes, not anywhere near as many as there should be but it's something)
>Smash Wii U forced songs to be reduced to 2 minutes in length for who knows what reasons and several of those abridged versions got carried as is to Ultimate

Feel free to post songs that should've made it too, starting with an obvious one
>Literally the most Smash-y theme in the series
>But Muh KH1 means it got left behind
Man, I'm glad he's here but I wish Sora had more sometimes.
>SORA!
>But Donald and Goofy aren't there for his final smash...
>Disney characters removed from the stage
>The shittiest musis selection
>Shitty shady "DLC" music locked behind a saved game
Here's one glaring omission from each series represented by the original 12

>Persona music doesn't have a single SMT song
>Final Fantasy music is just FF7
>ENTIRE FF representation is FFVII.
That sucked, even a Black Mage spirit or something would be fine.
in the minority here but I prefer a smaller cohesive ost like Melee that sounds like is from 1 band
>song gets a remix in Sm4sh
>it gets replaced in Ultimate by a new arrangement of the same song
Why the frick wouldn't you keep both? So many other songs have fifty billion arrangements that sound the same. All the fricking Zelda overworld songs sound the same except for the spanish guitar version.
Zelda got hit hard with this, not with remixes, but songs like Great Sea, Molgera's Theme and Midna's Lament had their OG tracks in and got removed in favor of lesser remixes.
>Midna's Lament was a perfect song
>NO WE NEED LE EPIC ORCHESTRATED BATTLE REMIX
>Sakurai opts for faster-paced remixes after witnessing a tournament ending with The Roost playing
>Removes several songs that arguably already fit a battle setting if at a slower pace
>The Roost stays untouched tho
We were robbed so hard out of an actual good Route 10 remix because of that shit. I'm still mad.
Just reminded me of a cool Pokémon song I discovered in P+ that I really love
I hate the Smash 4 Rosalina Observatory Remix, the the 3rd Version of the OG is the best
Just came from a Sonic Thread that was about a Rush Song and it’s a big shame Right There, Ride on got cut, it was a great thread with everyone posting their favorite songs
Honestly they should've add more music from Sonic. Too many theme songs from the games and very little actual stage themes.
For Castlevania, they got a lot of great tracks in but missing Clockwork, New Messiah, Reincarnated Soul, Sinking Old Sanctuary, Requiem of the Gods, Abandoned Castle, Ice Titan, and some boss themes such as Big Battle.
For Mega Man, missing music tracks from 4-10(yeah I know there is a track or 2 from 5 and some from 9). I wouldn't mind more music tracks from X, Zero, ZX, Battle Network, Starforce, and Legends.
For Street Fighter, only tracks from 2, and definitely needed tracks from 3, 4, 5, and Alpha trilogy.
Meanwhile SNK throws in a whopping FIFTY music tracks from various SNK games, and Bandai-Namco gives FORTY from the Tekken series
If Square-Enix wasn't stingy with their music, definitely wanted more Final Fantasy(wouldn't mind tracks from other games), Dragon Quest, and Kingdom Heats.
Atlus only gave what 11 tracks from Persona 3-5? Should've added some mainline SMT tracks as well from SMT1-4(including Apocalypse/Final). and Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2.
The problem with Sonic Music in Smash is that they only use the cheesy vocal themes, Open your Heart, Live & Learn and Sonic Heroes are fine but it gets redundant.
We need more Stage themes, the Classic games got a few stage themes, SA2 has City Escape, Generations has a fricking Unleashed Remix strangely enough, fricking Lost World and Forces have stage themes and Mania with Studiopolis. It’s a fricking confusing mess.
They don't actually own the rights to Sonic 1 and 2's music as they were that short sighted back then and were still shortsighted during Sonic 3's development. Doesn't explain why Smash doesn't have any Sonic Adventure 1/2 stage themes though.
>Too many theme songs from the games and very little actual stage themes.
Sakurai doesn't give a shit about Sonic, sorry.
my biggest dissapointment about the music is that you can't choose every song in the game to play in the menu
i wanted to have the "how to play" music from 64 to play in the menu, imagine my dissapointment
>these are all in the game but not as menu music options
>Smash Wii U forced songs to be reduced to 2 minutes in length for who knows what reasons and several of those abridged versions got carried as is to Ultimate
What I once read in an interview; The reason was because of the 2 minute quick matches. Sakurai said the song have being reduced to 2 minutes loops people can enjoy them as a whole without being cut off.
Anecdotal and all but I've never in my life met anyone who prioritized Time over Stocks. Bizarre to me that you'd compromise songs for a way of fighting not known for its popularity.
And people call this guy a genius. Dude lucked out so much by getting to direct a Nintendo crossover series.
They fricked up the Splatoon tracks hard.
This is my candidate for the worst possible remix, and possibly song, in the entire smash track list. Why did they even think about remixing it??? Now or Never was already perfect as a battle track!
The most wild thing about this remix is that Yuzo Koshiro of all people did it. He must have been phoning it in really hard that day.
I don't know which one I hate more, that or the remix of Splatattack!. I have both on 0 now.
>This is my candidate for the worst possible remix, and possibly song, in the entire smash track list
This one just sounds like a fricking fan MIDI someone shit together and uploaded on VGMusic
Telling there's no real praise in all of the comments. The closest is someone calling it pure nostalgia and another saying Brawl's remix is better but this isn't bad. No one else comments on the quality of the remix at all.
I'll never forgive the butchering of King Dedede's theme in Smash 4 with the kazoos
I still can't believe how badly they butchered Cynthia's theme.
Can't recall off the top of my head if any other game has it this bad, but for a game with specific playable representation, Fates got fricked hard with its music; the exact same song in four different variants. Say what you will about Fates, it's got several songs that'd have played good in Smash, but nope, Lost In Thoughts All Alone x4 it is.
I guess Sakurai secretly didn’t care for Corrin to put more from Fates, he had to save that for 3 Houses and I could care less for both games and their shilled additions.
WarioWare has one of the lowest track counts and it got 3 versions of Ashley's song and Gamer which is just an ambient loop and a "horror" loop
>1 track from a non Ware wario game
>0 game&watch gallery tracks
>barely touched any battle themes from Mother series
>no tracks from Kid Icarus of Myths and Monsters
>no tracks from Super Punch-Out
>barely any paper Mario or mario&luigi tracks
>no match set theme from mario tennis
>no mid boss theme from wind waker
>no StarFox 2 tracks
>no tracks from pokemon colloseum, xd or the wii one, nor neither mewtwo theme from stadium 1 and 2
>>no tracks from Kid Icarus of Myths and Monsters
That never released in Japan so it never had a chance alas
Thats still such a dumb reason, especially in Brawl when they took all the tracks from the first game. I just dont get the opposition to the stuff like it and StarTropics for representation. They are still apart of Nintendo history, they were still developed by Japanese devs. Do they think jap players are completely ignorant of games not released there and are not just as savy as say western gamers knowing about nip exclusives, or that they wouldn't be interested to learn about games they never got? The rules are so moronic.
Neither did Startropics
The dungeon theme from 2 would be rad as frick to hear remixed.
Here’s an awesome Super Punch Out remix that could fit well in Smash
Man, if the next game truly ends up as a "reboot" of the series, i would love to see everyone given a new base design, even if just for one game. Little Mac in his Super design, Mario and Luigi based on their Mario&Luigi designs, actual Wario, slightly older Ness based on the updated claymodel he got for Earthbound, StarFox Adventures Fox, etc. Change it up like how Link kept getting swapped around.
Dread Samus and maybe TOTK Ganondorf as well
>Falcon based on his design from the snes manual
>arcade DK(or make Rare DK and classic arcade DK two seperate characters)
>Yoshi's Island Yoshi with Baby Mario
>Dreamland 1 Kirby
>FAT Pikachu
>Famicom Marth
>Hoping gamefreak or TPC acknowledge the spinoff or sidegames in any shape or form in smash.
They're super anal about this.
Its a damn shame. The gym leader theme from Pokemon TCG would be my dream remix in smash. (Also main stage theme from Ballon Kid)
>no tracks from Kid Icarus of Myths and Monsters
The bigger problem is the Uprising remixes all being inferior to the original songs.
Absolutely this, also Dark Pit’s Theme not having that cool intro bit
It's weird how they didn't add anymore of the songs from punch out wii, there's a lot of good ones they could have thrown in like the multiplayer versus theme.
>Return to Dream Land final boss theme added
>Triple Deluxe final boss theme added
>Robobot gets its Green Greens and the Robobot theme
Portable games tend to get the shaft music wise.
I hate how Mario Party doesn’t have much music, let alone a Stage, the minigame tunes are pretty catchy and they could’ve tried combining them into Medleys, I’m also hoping for a Mario Party Superstars Deluxe on Switch Successor like MK8 Deluxe
Mario Party 9 has 1 song
Mario Party Island Tour has 2
That's it
Let that sink in for the state of Mario Party music in Smash...
I really like the King Bo-bomb boss theme in the one Wii one. Sounds very smash fitting.
Apparently the composers were allowed some form of freedom in their choices. What’s the solution to this? Do you force these people into specific franchises. It’s the reason Megaman has so many remixes because everyone wanted to work on that music
I think it's a balance, ideally composers working on what they want would lead to more passionate work, on the other hand I find it hard to believe no one wants to work on, say, Sonic music if asked
For a lot of franchises there’s also the licensing problems. Square was notoriously stingy with music and maybe Sega is in that camp too. Pokémon remixes are shocking unfitting so I’m not sure what the frick happens there
They don’t even bother remixing stuff from MM7, MM8 or MM10
In fact Capcom’s Music Selection is quite bizarre in this game: Megaman has tons of remixes from the main series but for some reason, only two Megaman X songs, no Battle Network songs, no Legends songs, only Zero's Theme from Megaman Zero, no ZX songs and only one Star Force song.
Meanwhile Street Fighter has only SFII songs, no SFIII songs, no alpha songs, no SFIV, no SFV, and not even Akuma's theme (wtf?)
So why is Capcom music selection so bizarre? So many good songs yet most of it is just for SFII and Megaman Classic?
Hey, at least it'a better than SQUEX shitty atitude towards music in general.
Hey remember how good the music was in this? Wasn't it cool how Smash only took the unfitting first level song and the island swing remix?
To be fair, it's the best version of Island Swing.
BUT THEY NAMED IT WRONG AND NEVER FIXED IT. YOU FRICKING FIXED BEIN' FRIENDS.
Nothing more disappointing than seeing a game with a legit great OST get as pitiful a representation as this. "First level music and Remix of series' main theme" tells me whoever was in charge couldn't be arsed to do beyond the bare minimum for Tropical Freeze's tracks
Why does fricking M&L Paper Jam have more songs than TF
>Brawl lets you play the Golden Sun battle theme on Norfair
>Ultimate doesn't because music and stages have to be from matching series
That theme was literally the only reason I ever played on that stage
That shit pissed me off as it prevented you from playing music that was always associated with certain stages in previous games as the new music groupings barred them from being used.
Luigi's mansion not having access to the Tetris songs or Flat Zone not having the Dr. Mario themes was moronic, not to mention the SMW stage being lumped into the Yoshi category so it couldn't use it's SMB3 Melee alternative track anymore.
Don't forget segregating the G&W stage off into it's own little universe of just itself so it only has two music tracks to pick from while it's old alternative tracks got dumped into the "misc" category which of course it can't access.
So odd when Duck Hunt (which has a similar number of songs) got paired with Others
I actually liked the Tunnel Xscape Themes being on the Starfox stages they surprisingly fit
KoF using 2002 UM for a lot of it's tracks instead of the originals saddened me as a lot of them are worse than the originals.
Also no AST versions of any of the KoF tracks.
Here’s something for you anons, add 1 song for each series, but if you want multiple for certain series make sure to label for that series.
I’ll only doing one 1 thru 10 because I’m getting tired, hopefully this thread is still up into the morning/afternoon
My wife Daisy!
DKC3 has no songs so here’s one
The strongest Ganon battle theme
It’s party time with serris!
Oh no Baby Bowser is mad
>Gets lots of hits in MVC3: GALACTIC
Don’t get the name of this song confused with a Fire Emblem character
Not familiar with Mystery Dungeon Music so I went with this
Defeat me and take back the Sanctuary if you dare

> No new Sonic remixes for two games straight
> No Ai No Uta
> No Kingdom Hearts remixes
>persona 5
>No Blooming Villain
>Yoshi is counted as it's own series so only Yoshi songs can play on a Yoshi stage
>In a series where they literally can't stop fricking up the music
Granted this seperation has been a thing since 64 but it's still annoying
>Woolly World finally contributes several good songs
>They went lazy and only featured the main theme
Is it just me who really REEEAAALLYY hates the lyrics in King K. Rool's theme? I also hate the faint chorus in it, it drives me fricking nuts. What was the thought process behind this song?
Don't mind it but the sound mixing is off when they play, they almost sound like background noise
>so many great songs will be forgotten and never acknowledged again
feels bad bros
The fact they were too lazy to ungut the songs that gut mangled in 4U to fit the 2 minute limit will always irritate me.
The lack of kh2 music is a fricking shame but you can say the same thing about most dlc characters
