Very true and there's no arguing against that. I'd say the fight itself was worth it but that entire shebang shouldn't have been included in the first place.
Darklurker's theme was also really fricking cool. Almost as cool as Ruin Sentinels' theme.
>How are you this casual?
I stopped giving a shit about the game by the time I found the second cripple & zoomed through to the end skipping everything that wasn't on the main path wherever possible because I realized the game wasn't ever gonna get better. >I did this thing
I did a thing in gamecube tmnt 1 & will accuse you of being a casual if you didn't.
>Not really that worth it.
Pretty much sums up my view of the entire game lol. My friend was obsessed with the game though, also 100% it, the dlc & then did it all over again in the next gen re-release.
>I don't even know why I 100% it.
I have a shit ton of games where I can't come up with a rational reason I even beat them let alone 100%'d them. >Guess I was just young and had more free time
With increasing frequency I barely even finish games I otherwise enjoy, I'm just like ehh frick it I already know what happens in the end & that's if I consciously realize that I'm done playing, half the time I just forget about it & just phase out of playing. I definitely think it's an age thing.

Wondered if I've just fried my dopamine receptors from coke abuse but yeah, most likely just age
Or maybe we're just more critical of the quality of games now. Or more prone to thinking "Why am I even doing this"

>Wondered if I've just fried my dopamine receptors from coke abuse
I know far too many examples that contradict this, maybe it played a role but I kinda doubt it based on straight edge people I know who hit the same fatigue around the same time. Alternatively I know a bunch of morons & normies who did & did not fry their receptors who never ever get tired of ubisoft games & the like. It seems to be age & upon further thinking about it, not being a total moron / normie thing more than anything else. That & ocd tendencies.

Honestly I miss my youth purely on the basis that everything was so much better, I unironically envy the normies who have a blast playing modern games & just enjoying things that I find to be utterly lacking. I was tainted by a level of quality that will never come back.
im going to post a reddit link so dont shit your pants

Yes and it's every bit as horrible as people make it out to be. Repeating a gauntlet for a boss runup isn't anything new for Souls games but the reason this one sucks so much is because you have to use consumable items that are pretty valuable.
the caves arent even that bad honestly. as long as you know the layout, you can run past everything. the effigy cost is the only downside. in a game with the top 3 worst runbacks in the entire series, theyre barely worth mentioning.
2cat is a b***h, but if youre patient and know the moveset, its not so bad. i think darklurker is worse due to random projectile spam with wonky hitboxes.
>in a game with the top 3 worst runbacks in the entire series
1st, Lud and Zallen
2nd, ???
3rd, ???
I don't think I ever experienced the runback for Electric Boogaloo Smelter. By the time the DLCs came out I had fought regular Smelter Demon through so many NG+ runs that it was impossible for me to die to him.
It was just the Runto.
you mustve gotten lucky then. the blue smelter has different timings and patterns than the red one specifically to trip up people used to fighting the original.
I didn't get lucky, I'm just FRICKING AMAZING at the game. One of the reasons I love Dark Souls 2 so much is because you can actually react to the enemy attacks. You don't need to memorize anything.
Blue Smelter may have had different timings but the wind ups were the same so you knew what was coming.
I remember Dark Lurker being obscenely easy because I just did way too much damage to him and he went down almost immediately after he turned into two dudes.
Meanwhile Blue Smelter and Fume Knight took me quite a while.
You really have to fight Dark Lurker at the appropriate level for an enjoyable fight which is nearly impossible because who the hell is going to find him without a guide.
>moron director want to make a more "cinematic" experience a la sony games >Gets booted out >Replacement director had to pick up the pieces and make something out of it >"yeah let's just make an unofficial sequel to King's Field"
I think out of all Dark Souls bosses she was the one I had the most trouble with. I died so many times to her. It was my first time ever taking more than a couple hours to beat a Dark Souls boss.
I didn't parry cheese her anything so that may have had something to do with it. I didn't even die to Orphan that much.
I got lucky the last time I fought Darklurker. Once he split, they stayed close together, so I was able to get double damage by hitting both in a single swing.
Mine is Sif.
That's a good favorite.
Has one of the shittiest lead ups though

I never fought him because of that, I watched my friend beat him & was content with that.
How are you this casual? I beat the game without dying + no bonfires for the rings

mr big man over here

I don't even know why I 100% it. Up until recently, it was the only souls game I had 100%
Guess I was just young and had more free time
That probably sums up my reason for playing the shit out of it too. But boy did I enjoy playing the shit out of it.

God everything in Dark Souls 2 looked like a Chinese factory ripoff. It truly was the Devil May Cry 2 equivalent (though not nearly as bad).
Here's the developer's internal name of Dark Lurker.
Who's Agaduran?
(agaduran) agaduran
Both of their skin is blue too, neat.
A STAND?!
https://www.etymonline.com/word/stand
What is the lore implications of such?
Originally I believed Darklurker to be a perfected pilgrim angel.
there are no lore implications. developer names often mean nothing.
for example, they called ornstein griffith. it meant nothing in lore. just a nickname for the devs.
Are there any other funny nicknames?
im going to post a reddit link so dont shit your pants
https://www.reddit.com/r/darksouls/comments/1u0t7e/enemy_nicknames_within_the_game_data_mass_of/
We don't know, the internal names are not reliable because they were not meant for our eyes, but it's interesting to think about if they still are.
Another example.
Her brother.
Will they marry after he find her
yes and sex
Why is he making this face
>Sea Solaire
the same crossed arms...
saw some pics of him getting fricked in his ass long time ago, I should try and find those again
The ones drawn by Synma? Good stuff.
Hang in there, Skeleton!
Kalameet is the only good dragon boss fight in the series
>who is Midir
Midir > Sinh > Kalameet > Seath >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ancient dragon
Sinh and Midir are fun fights.
I thought he'd be more difficult.
Fitting name for the Pursuer.
don't you have to redo the dungeons every time to fight him? Obnoxious.
Gotta visit 3 shrines
Each time, you offer an effigy
You die, another effigy
yeah that is annoying.
just 1 dungeon, which also costs an effigy every time.
The set up takes 3
the setup costs 3, but the retry, which is what the anon was talking about, only costs 1.
some runbacks on DS2 are so obnoxious i just backup my save on my desktop and load it again if i die to the boss

Sir Alonne bos run
Jesus lord
*boss
yeah, this is worse than the other 2 dlc bonus boss runs. I hardly remember the other 2, honestly. I don't think I ever struggled with them.
Unironically the hardest Ds2 boss.
maybe
I still haven't beaten the twin cats because I hate the Frozen Outskirts too much.
2cat is a b***h, but if youre patient and know the moveset, its not so bad. i think darklurker is worse due to random projectile spam with wonky hitboxes.
gank squad and cool ranch smelter.

Opposite for me. One shot Blue Smelter and that die like 7 times to Darklurker. He just rains down spells on you.
looks like a Kingdom Hearts boss lol
do DS2 keks really?
I don't know man, I always thought Kingdom Hearts bosses looked pretty cool.
It's Seath from King's Field.
would not surprise me
>moron director want to make a more "cinematic" experience a la sony games
>Gets booted out
>Replacement director had to pick up the pieces and make something out of it
>"yeah let's just make an unofficial sequel to King's Field"
based ideas and I'm glad they rehashed them.
Souls series should've gone this direction
agreed. the games like ds3, bb, sekiro and er should have been their own series/one-offs and the ds games shouldve stayed the course.
And that's not even everything
>Statues hanging upside down from the ceiling.
Man that part was so cool. I didn't even know there was something similar in Dark Souls 2.
>A well in the beginning area
That's not a well in DS2, that's a cesspit.
I never fought this guy because I was too much of a brainlet to find out how to get to him. My favorite boss is probably Lady Maria
I think out of all Dark Souls bosses she was the one I had the most trouble with. I died so many times to her. It was my first time ever taking more than a couple hours to beat a Dark Souls boss.

>cast profound still
>he just stares at you while you beat the shit out of him.
My favourite
Yeah he's not that difficult but he had a cool build up and he's not overly flashy like some of the newer bosses
I got lucky the last time I fought Darklurker. Once he split, they stayed close together, so I was able to get double damage by hitting both in a single swing.
