I checked the DLC for the game and it just seems that most added bosses, enemies, items, and characters are utterly annoying to play as or against.

the temper tantrum was definitely afterbirth and AB+ with delirium and all the bullshit challenges. the rep stuff is actually balanced pretty well by the PENIS team
basically this. Repentance had a few really cool items and charaters, but the overwhelming majority of your playtime will be spent doing the two incredibly tedious "alt paths" through the game or playing as horribly designed gimmick characters. It's really a shame because if the two autstic manchildren developers had an adult in the room to tell them "hey being chased around by a one shot kill ghost the entire game isn't fun, nobody will enjoy it" then it could've easily been the best indie game ever made

I literally never have trouble doing Beast. Sure, some enemies are annoying, but it's pretty simple. Plus, going for Planetariums is actually optimal.

new player here. is it just me or it takes forever to kill enemies early on? i feel like i need damage items or otherwise the game is unplayable
nah you're not the only one who feels that, that's definitely a common complaint with the game, especially when finding 2x2 rooms
personally i just hold R until a treasure room shows up right next to spawn, navigating chapter 1 for the nth time on base stats ceases to be challenging or fun by the time before you're even halfway done with the characters
I've been out of the loop for a while, are they still redoing the Void and Delirium eventually? I think I saw somehting about the late game floors (corpse, sheol, cathedral) getting alts too, any word on that?
Delirium is the only guarantee before Kilburn closes up shop. Mortis isn't going to happen, neither are alts for Sheol or Cathedral. Mausoleum will likely stay barebones compared to Antibirth.

The major filtersproblems are

>most rooms have multiple waves of enemies adding to the slowness
>combines an item tier rarity system and the special item system from Isaac meaning getting broken is relatively rare but run variety suffers for it
>all bosses have boss armor unless you are broken
>Boss armor on everything
>Rooms are painfully slow to go through
>Every weapon is broken down into "use this on chaff" or "Save this for the bosses" or is a joke item
>Took two updates to make drops fair with the ammo split box and keys
I still do runs from time to time, but the game is just way too lacking in content. There's not enough stuff to do in each run. With Isaac there's a billion ways each run can go, but with gungeon all runs feel the same with the only slight variety coming from extremely rare occurences like unique encounters and synergies. It's style over substance.
Not to mention the moronic fricking anti-fun mehcanics like magnificence and the rat. Armor is useless too, just health with a blank attached to it. Doesn't save from failing to perfect a boss fight like blue hearts in isaac do, doesn't protect guon stones, basically does frick-all and only drops once or twice every run.
I have near 100%-ed the game and it fricks up everything I find really fun about Isaac.
The big sin is that the game doesn't give you enough power over how the run goes other than shooting well and not being hit.

>Pickup generation is ridiculously strict and heavily RNG based
>Extremely limited number of "proper items" per floor, many of them focused on utility rather than meaningful offensive or defensive strength- and you're not likely to get even the majority of items per floor if your key generation isn't lucky as frick
>The extra floors are all gated behind keys, blanks, and/or money, meaning the benefit you SHOULD be getting from extra floors (multiple extra items, more pickups) are significantly lessened
>In the rare case that the game hands you a random encounter that gives you more stuff than average, you didn't do shit to earn it
Contrast this with Isaac, where the alt path has more item choices, where the secret room system lets you use your own damn judgement to obtain extra resources rather than playing well and praying for RNG, where you are fully able to stockpile every resource the game will ever expect you to spend, where the game errs toward letting you generate infinite items over forcing you to stick with the pathetic amount it'll just hand you.
Add to that the game's weaker enemy variety and boss variety and runs tend not to feel all that interesting overall. Nothing really distinguishes them from one another.. You dodge and shoot. Maybe, if you're incredibly lucky, you get an item or a gun that makes dodging and/or shooting easier. Few to none of them worth using actually require unique strategies to dodge or shoot well.
gungeon is like if isaac had no meta play and was literally just dodging and shooting the entire time, but nuclear throne does that way better.
having 100%ed it myself, i can safely say i would not recommend it to anyone at all.

NTA but the threads were pretty solid for much longer than a month, mainly due to amount of content there was to complete and its difficulty, it was only when people started getting to the clearly unfinished and rushed characters that the honeymoon period started to peel off and picrelated started kicking in in July.
I'm waiting for news about the Delirium patch so I can start another save file. Also these threads are still pretty good (even considering how low Ganker standards are) if you hide the metaposting homosexuals, and if they live past 100 posts.

I cheated t. Lost and t. Jacob. I did that "no health no mantle lmao" shit once in Rebirth and it was the most miserable experience I've ever had playing Isaac. There are also plenty of thin room playouts that can 100% get you ghosted as t. Jacob. Frick that garbage.
t.lost was not nearly as bad as I was expecting, the holy card drops significantly increase your survival rate
as for t. jacob yeah some room layouts suck but at least the lost transformation resets when you enter a new floor

Imagine Isaac but competitive, like you both spawn on the floor in different places and have to race to the end first to get a reward. You can both kill stuff but you can't hurt each other.

A lot of the vanilla shop items like Compass, Map, and Ladder need to have their base price reduced to 7c. The power creep in this game means you're never going to actually drop 15c on these when there's tons of better investments. They are helpful items, but they pale in comparison to literally anything else.
What if kilburn does end up changing the prices for items, but he makes the better quality items 30c instead?
first two are great boss rush / hush items and ladder is good for what it does, and it makes flooded caves significantly less cancer
If I was going for Hush I would still take nearly any other shop item over map and compass. Shop has a hefty amount of shitty active items, but the number of items that are better and more beneficial to any run in general far outweighs the benefit of map or compass. Mama Mega will literally clear a floor for you and costs the same amount.
of course you’d take mama mega if you wanted to do hush it’d let you min max for the rest of the run
the shop is in such a gamble right now it may as well be another arcade

T. Keeper's shop should unironically be how the shop functions for all characters. It's how shops function in other item-hoard rogelikes.
How about they get buffs instead?

Tainted Apollyon sucks so much ass. You think they would have learned from regular Apollyon that having shit base stats is boring as hell. You spend most of the time playing catch-up instead of making interesting decision.
I don't even register Apolyon or t. version as characters that fit in with the rest of the lineup, Apolyon feels like he got inserted by a mod.
Apollyon and the Void item are unironically unfinished. Design doc that Edmund leaked showed that Apollyon was originally going to have slightly higher base stats than Isaac and flight.
both apollyons are pretty dull and tweaking them to stand out from the rest of the roster is one of the things kilburn is planning to do if he has spare time while working on the delirium rework which means it probably won't happen

Hard Mode Major Boss Patterns at least makes the fight into something pretty interesting
