Hmm. Have you every played a MMORPG before? Or any sort of RPG with magic? And if so, what was your favorite class/builds?
If no on that, have you interacted at all with fantasy adventure genre with magic on any level? A movie you liked, playing DnD or tabletop, things like that. If so, do you have a favorite class/character?

Yes, I usually would play "glass cannon" melee classes.
just keep in mind that the melee aspect of amazon is by far the worst part

Yeah like the others have said, my suggestions don't = the meta classes or the best in slot. Its that question of if you want to be like everyone else and play the meta classes or just for the first time through, decide what you want to do and have fun with it. Keep in mind that there's a limited number of respects to do. So it is advisable to check up on some builds.
One thing to note with the Amazon is that her runeword body armor (Shael + Thul + Amn) can easily be farmed from Nightmare Countess and has a % chance to cast level 15 Valkyrie on striking. For non Amazon characters the Valkyrie disappears quickly but if you're playing as an Amazon and put a single hard skill point into Valkyrie you effectively get a proper level 16 Valkyrie to tank for you for free, you don't even need a mercenary.
Thanks for the advice, anons. I'll write it down.

whatever you think is fun, I can give you some tips if you want. if you have no idea at all. Assasin, Druid, Paladin or Necromancer are very strong without any equipment
Amazon and Sorceress are strong too but need some levels and items or tons of mana
Barbarian is the most item dependent and can be a bit frustrating in the higher difficulties without farming good items
Complicated question.
More correct one is how much solo diablo 2 do you want to play.
If you want to play the campaign through once and have a fun time, barb and paladin are the hardest to get correct drops for. Amazon, sorc, and druid all require hefty amounts of gear before their playstyle isn't potion guzzling monotony.
Necro summons with curse is the king of Normal campaign playthroughs, Lightning trap assassin comes close 2nd.
If you want to play at the Nightmare or Hell difficulties solo (NG+, NG++), sorc and paladin are the only two real choices. Teleport and static field, and boss slowdown/stun are mandatory.
any class can easily finish nightmare with minimal items. hell is the point where you either play the few good builds in solo mode or grind yourself the right resistances and good uniques
Any class can easily finish nightmare with minimal items, but doing so without a decent MF% and a couple cheap and easy runewords is stopping yourself short of the full experience.
Sorc, necro, and paladin are the only classes that can painlessly grind the bullshit to get required hell items.
you are not wrong, I just think hell is so different from the rest of the game people who are new and just wanna have fun trying things out should not be bothered by that aspect of the game and play what they want. you can always make a new character
Anything except barbarian. Also you have to look up build guides because the game is so fricking shit you can actually invest 60 levels only to find out deep in the grind what you did was garbage.
I've started playing it recently since a buddy gifted D2R to me, I tried a bit of everyone and landed on Assassin, I like just yeeting traps into a room and letting it do my job for me as i run around dodging
Blizzard Sorceress - requires no gear to clear the game, has Teleport, the ultimate utility spell, and can efficiently farm Hell Andariel and Mephisto (as well as Lower Kurast) to gather strong gear for subsequent characters to use.
horker
Druid.
Have you ever played any arpg before? If so what did you play and what was your favorite class/build/skill setup?
>Have you ever played any arpg before?
No, I was suggested to play Diablo 2 as my first ARPG.

Hmm. Then probably Amazon (spears, archery, etc), Assassin (traps, melee, assassin type of stuff), or Barbarian (self explanatory).
Druid if you want to transform into a werewolf and do glass cannon melee stuff that way.
I think I've decided on Amazon.

> guy never played d2
> bunch of specific terms
fricking brainlets on this board
dude who gives a frick what he did beforehand. The game is not that complicated to learn no matter who you pick.
fricking moron he is trying to get a pulse on what he likes so he can recommend him a class/build
OK but you don't need multiple posts with paragraphs of questionnaires to figure that out. Just ask 1 or 2 then that's it.
Why don't you just butt the frick out of the conversation since you're not adding anything to the topic at hand.
after diablo 2, go play grim damn afterwards. to hell with almost every other arpg

this is what they took from you

You are gimping yourself if you playing anything other than Sorc or Paladin. Everyone telling you otherwise never made enigma.

Runewords are such a ducking meme
D2R is better
my men, when i was a kid i used to play necromancer and let the summons do all the work only sucks that you cant use squeletons against certain bosses
I've started playing it recently since a buddy gifted D2R to me, I tried a bit of everyone and landed on Assassin, I like just yeeting traps into a room and letting it do my job for me as i run around dodging
Barbarian
