I swear there's more levels where you're riding the parrot than playing as diddy or dixie at this point. FRICK OFF.

Rofl. It's not that bad. Though if you don't like this one, guarantee you're probably not going to like DKC3...

Apart from one instance of rambi in kremland I swear I spent most of these worlds playing as a fricking parrot. I get it rare, I thought I signed up for a game about monkeys, not their pets.

Nah, it's just that one of the harder levels is with the parrot so it feels like you're playing as him longer than you are. If that's not what you are talking about then you are a a drama queen and your thread is dildos.

This is the one most people hate I think. I never had a problem with Squawks or the other animal buddies though tbh. Though I guess if it's not to you're liking just stick to DKC1. Also you can skip the first two worlds minus bosses using warps.

        Kek, well said.
This zoomers habit of blogging their rushed playthroughs is becoming boring.

I love DKC2 overall, but this and the Squawks levels are some of the worst I've ever played in a video game.

Yeah but the animal buddies aren't what people complain about when it comes to DK64, besides there being too few which is a minor complaint

I'm getting filtered hard in some late stages. Doesn't help that you need to beat 2/3 levels on each new zone just to save. And game over means reloading.

The idea of your video game protagonist having friends bothers you because (You) have no friends.

DKC as a series is gimmick heavy, make your peace with it.

Every level in this fricking game is "wait for the annoying enemy to do it's animation and run past it" over and over again. DKC1 is the best in the series and I'm tired of pretending it's not.

Sometimes the enemy animations are paced out to encourage swift breaks through a level, some are not. Crash Bandicoot took this idea of enemies entering a cycle once in a certain proximity that rewards memorization and skilled play, but dkc 1 and 2 both have the problem of some enemies being prepared for it, some not. Same for obstacles. It's a bit unpolished.

Is this game being a masterpiece the only reason Rare's DK games are so highly regarded? Everyone says DKC1 is mediocre (essentially a proof of concept for 2), 3 is bad, and 64 is of course absolute dogshit. That isn't exactly a legacy; seems like 2 was more of a fluke.

2 is pretty good overall, but they reuse a lot of level designs that don't differentiate enough with their combined mechanics and literally about half the levels are animal friend focused. Lots of them are fake outs where you play for a minute as the kongs and then play as or ride with an animal friend for 90% of it.

i wouldn't say it's "boring" or that i hate it but dkc1 did it a little better. where the animals are just kind of there and usually afford you some advantage but you don't have to interact with them aside from the odd bonus room where you need one of them, assuming you're doing those. also, way more levels in dkc1 have an animal in them than i thought as a kid, some of them are hidden better than the bonus rooms

dkc3 is far worse in this regard, for a lot of reasons but principally because ellie sucks compared to rambi and you have to play as her a lot relatively speaking, while the better ones go underutilized
