How the frick is eBay the cheaper option for Americans in 2024?

I think the problem here is you're comparing prices from NY when they were known to overprice everything.

There’s damage to the box and the plastic wrap looks loose and done with an at home plastic sealer. I’d be cautious

      Anonymous

Yeah, even from this picture, you can see thats a rewrap.

Theres far too much damage to the box and in areas most commonly handled for it to be never removed from the wrapping.

Its still valuable if it has the map and poster but seeing the look of the box on the outside, i'd be incredibly worried that the map/poster is either not there or looks like crap.

Don't man, I found out a few years ago my mum threw out a folder I used have as a kid, it had every single 1st edition Pokemon card in it, near mint condition. The entire fricking collection and she threw it out. I still haven't talked to her since.

Literally the same thing has happened to me and my brothers. We had alot of first edition Pokémon cards, (not all of them, we traded around and half ass played the game) too many NES, SNES and N64 titles and consoles, tamagotchi's, Furby's etc. First edition Disney VHS etc. Our parents eventually just got rid of that stuff. Hindsight man... it hurts sometimes.

sometimes it does. the newest version is not always the best. some revisions remove shit, others contain unwanted 'fixes' (e.g. PS2 copies of GTA: SA that remove the Hot Coffee minigame)

No, it wouldn't smell the same, or have the same cardboard oxidation that the real deal would have.

We live in an odd world.

I remember buying it at a thrift store for 5$ back in 2001. It was still a steal then, as it was getting more expensive to find, and mine definitely didn't have the box, but this is just sad to me.

I really don't understand collecting a physical copy of things as to me its like a book, as they could republish them any time. Instead though companies like Square push scarcity so you always need feel FOMO.

Book collectors exist too, I get that and collecting, but in book circles that is niche is shit, and in gaming it is common, thus I don't get it.

      Anonymous

no one is going to republish a cartridge game.

I don't get collecting. You can play the rom RIGHT NOW for FREE just download the rom and an emulator and you can play it. Hell you can even go on your digital distribution platform of choice and pay for that rom and emulator if you were so inclined. Playing the game again will be a far more enjoyable way to reconnect with your childhood memories of playing the game. Buying a boxed copy of a game for $1000 only to throw it on shelf and look at every once is such a pointless waste of money. When you die, someone will throw this shit in a cardboard box, stuff it in an attic and there it'll sit for decades until anyone who still remembers or cares is long since dead and its lost any value it once had, just like your grandpa's old baseball cards.

Speaking of emulation is there a preferred romhack for Chrono Trigger? I know the SNES Final Fantasies usually have some massive hack that uncensors, corrects the translation, restores cutcontent, and/or fixes copious bugs that every recommends playing over the official version. Does Chrono Trigger have anything like that?
