from what I understand you either have the westaboo japanese players who absolutely love the game or the casual japanese players who have never played a CRPG before and are getting filtered.
Basically complaints amount to things like
'the game is too luck based'
'I have to make too many choices'
'i have to read too much text'
'THIS is the goty? tears of the kingdom is much better!'
'this is probably only popular for western people in the same way dragon quest is only popular here'
I watched some old guy stream the game and he couldn't figure out how to get out of the first dungeon where you jump through the broken hole and then get ambushed by the bandit party. He was basically hard stuck until he thought he should probably blow up the oil barrel. Actually from the bits and pieces I've watched I don't think I've seen any of them try to throw things or shove people off cliffs or anything like that. It's all class specific abilities being used.
they're also all playing on console/controller atm (though the Steam ver. is also getting Japanese support "asap", don't know if it's out yet) which makes the game harder to manage
there's also the absence of any JP audio which can be a real sticking point for some, one guy I watched was saying they should've at least dubbed the narrator's lines if a full dub was out of the question
it's doing better than something like Disco Elysium's jp release which appealed to the same hardcore westaboo crowd but didn't have the D&D/fantasy draw. still yeah, it's not something that the average japanese gamer is going to just pick up and start having a blast with, which seems to have been the whole hype around bg3 - normalgays and non-crpg players bleeding into the playerbase

Sucks that they didn't like disco elysium overall. I heard the translation for that was comparable to reading a well translated novel. Actually that's probably the reason.
