I kinda want to get this mentality out that having a single Riptide is "OP". It's not. They're the Tau's TEQ. It's fair if they can have one if you bring some Termies or a Land Raider. If they bring multiple and in the Wing, then yes that is pretty cheesy.
Also Kroot are shit. They're just expendable meatshields. Having a whole army oriented around them would be incredibly boring. If Tau auxiliaries had the same love that Genestealers then that would be fine.
A "fun" army to play against is something that tries to bring all the neat units into the battle in a combined arms fashion. Not just spamming any one single unit. A good Tau player would know that some well supported fire warrior unit is a cheaper and arguably better source of anti infantry fire power than the other units.
I'm so tired of hearing non Tau players complain about "muh Battlesuits or muh Riptides" They're there in the codex, they have a purpose, just like the FWs.source then any of the battle suits. Just because you get butthurt at the cheesemongers doesn't mean that the other Tau players have to stop using a particular unit. Quit b***hing.

riptides suck dick in 9th due to lack of CORE for buffs. Crisis suits and hammerheads are the best options for damage, maybe Stormsurge if Bork’an. anyone crying about them sucks

Taugays are the worst.
crisis suits carry the entire codex. tau have like 4 good units and some good HQs. everything else is worse than one of those 4 good units. riptides are cool but you can get 4 kitted out crisis for the same price, even after the nerfs.
Kroot are Orks but better
Fire Warriors are Guardsmen but better
Hammerheads and Skyrays and Devilfish are better versions of the various Guard vehicles, some of the best goddamn vehicles in the game
Crisis Teams are badass as they ought to be for their price, but are still ludicrous. Who the frick thought it was a good idea to give a S10 AP1 melee weapon to the ranged only faction?
Fricking Pirahnas and those missile skimmers are better versions of Land Speeders and Vypers
Pathfinders are ludicrously useful even when they aren't tagging everything for annihilation
Vespids are stupid good but I never see anyone use them because they're too busy spamming Crisis teams
Tau have plasma weapons that are identical to everyone else's except they don't have a risk for their risk/reward use so they're just reward with no risk. In Epic they have increased invulnerable saves for extra bullshit.
Riptides were the cherry on top of the bullshit sundae that has been festering since the commies were introduced
