That’s just the big shell
for you
BANE?
Big shell is scary
The only horror I can imagine is some deep sea thing. Which, oil rigs are just off the coast, right? Not very "deep sea" anyway.
deep enough
what about setting a horror game in that bottom-dwelling station. Imagine if you have to try and get between the two connected areas, or get down there from a drilling rig or vide versa. But maybe this general was done well enough for SOMA (except SOMA was set in a ship)
only a small part of soma was in a ship, the flip-ship ms curie, most of the game was sea floor habitats and the open seabed. irl there isn't much down below a drill rig to live in as far as i'm aware. they lower very small pressurized chambers to the seabed for divers to work from but that stuff isn't long term living in the sense that it's only a room or two before they are hoisted to a much bigger topside pressure chamber to sleep in while they do these multiday missions before depressurizing. most of that seabed stuff is just part of the drilling operation like piping, the big sea anchors for the rig above and any other machinery needed down there but it's not manned stuff.
That's Narcosis
Hidden deep
Sounds like Rubyquest. That'd make a good game.
wait a sec are there underwater mines / oil drilling facilities that are just build completely underwater? Is that what's going on there on the bottom? also what's with that weird edit someone clearly made on the copy of the semi sub ship.
A brick and stone mansion in the English country side with a deep basement where an ancient evil is about to resurrect, after your grandfather died and you find his manuscripts warning you about the impending doom so you search through the mansion for the missing pages to piece together the puzzle with your ancestor's hints on how to prevent the end of the world.
Sounds like Resident Evil but in England
An English university college like Keeble College Oxford or Girton College Cambridge would be a great setting for a classic Resident Evil game
i like it, plus setting it in ingerland would be a organic way to limit the kinds of weapons available to the player that cant really be justified with games set in the US
REALMS OF THE HAUNTING YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
you made my day anon
What a fricking bizarre game
>evil guy appears as a dentist
>insta one shots you
so just Eternal Darkness
MAY THE BATS EAT YOUR PIES
This sounds like Amnesia except it's a prussian castle and it's your own letter before you went crazy and took an amnesia potion.
Darkest dungeon, guys...
>Darkest dungeon
the only scary thing in DD is the grind
That's the most generic shit in the fricking world.
Alone In The Dark 1 is literally this but with uncle instead of grandfather.
Scratches also.
yoooo I played a demo of this as a kid and we couldn't figure out how to leave the first room
Yeah the game is very cryptic and filled with trail and error deaths.
>alone in the dark
>every room is bright
I know it's a meme but akshually there are multiple rooms you can't explore if you don't find the lantern, oil and lighter.
>alone in the reddit
WE GOT TO INSTALL MICROWAVE OVENS
CUSTOM KITCHEN DELIVERIIIIEEEEES
WE GOT TO MOVE THESE REFRIDGERATORS
WE GOT TO MOVE THESE COLOR TEE VEEEEEEEES
Slender man plot
So generic and so classical and so trite that no one has done it in decades (excluding point and clickers which no one plays except for my dad). Needs to be done again.
I've been playing this point and click hidden object game where you go to this mansion which has magical doors you go through that teleport you to a place to help a ghost pass on.
Blackwell series?
Why do you brits keep holding ancient evils in your basements?
How do you think they turned from a backwards, depopulated island into a superpower within a century?
because we're the good guys
good if we go by the talmudic criteria, yes
no for real
yes, for real
if we consider drinking the blood of white men to be good, then the english are decent, likeable people
YOU WILL ARRIVE ALONG THE OLD ROAD.
Amnesia already exists
ALMOST clock tower 3
Damn bro you should be working for Hollywood, this is the most generic shit you could come up with and that's exactly what they're looking for.
Based generichad.
So, so few games actually play the tropes straight, and they're tropes that are so time honored for a reason.
i'd love some that actually just play the classic tropes straight.
what is eternal darkness
Thats every horror indie game
literally stolen from the darkest dungeon which isn't even a horror game
PARGON PARGON PARGON
>only one anon responded to this with alone in the dark
>every other homosexual brings up vidya that was made years later.
But Eternal Darkness took place in Rhode Island.
Sometimes the simplest really are the best.
>all these anons not realizing this post was intentionally describing the most generic shit he could think of
There are people browsing this website whose first game was Skyrim (sadly).
You are black
Everyone but you is black
i would prefer giant creepy gothic cathedral and abbey
>snarling, wailing faces leap out of the darkness at you
>it's actually just exceptional stonework under your own flickering candle light
Are some of the bricks white because of repairs?
a lot of these beautiful buildings from this era were actually cobbled together in large part with pilfered bricks from other buildings that had fallen into disrepair and were picked apart in the night. I saw a cornerstone from another building with the builders' mark and the date of foundation engraved in it, upside down in the wall of a cathedral a lot like this one in the square across from the tower of Pisa
>wall of a cathedral a lot like this one in the square across from the tower of Pisa
cool, I went there last year. Its funny how many people were spooked when they found out the one glass coffin had a skeleton in it
Could be repairs or they could be from a separate quarry from the other stones which has a slightly different mineral makeup in the rock, so the stone bricks age differently.
These old cathedrals are under essentially constant maintenance. Once one section is repaired another has to be, and when you've done a trip around the building the first section needs repairs again. On and on.
Cathedrals are only scary if you personally have something to feel guilty about.
Is this in France?
maybe, i dunno probably britain or france
Westminster Abbey in London, UK.
the only scary things would be the pedophiles
cathedrals are comfy and safe unless you're an actual demon
I want Castlevania to come back. Bit of a monkey's paw situation, but that series deserves more than to just rot outside of mediocre netflix cartoons.
Most cathedrals are big but empty. It might have crypts beneath it but that's kinda rare
A prison. But it's not some ghost infested or Nazi science experiment prison. Just you, an innocent man convicted of slaughtering a family of 4, trying to not get raped and killed or beaten. That's true horror.
what do they eat?
their supplies get helicoptered in, yes?
>in the middle of the sea
>hurr what they eat
fish you inbred
damn somebody should make a survival game where you live on a rusted out derelict oil rig and you have to fish for food and go swimming for building materials and shit, imagine weathering a huge storm in some shitty control room that you've fortified and the waves are going crazy
>and you have to fish for food
imagine over time the fish come us looking rusted and fused with metal parts from the rig because you're going insane from the loneliness or something
the raft is that game sorta. the world flooded and there is very little land left. mostly ships/rigs to explore as you gather and make your way across the ocean
Oil platforms aren’t spending their time fishing you idiot
Doesn't look like a typical oil rig, but there is enough food on them to last over a year for the whole crew. That and they really aren't that far off of the shore. There was a rig fire about 10 years ago where a guy "swam" from the rig to the shore due to being the luckiest mother fricker alive with the perfect tide and current.
A totalitarian state and you're being searched by the cops
The part of it that's underwater.
with all the dumb oddjob sims out these days I'm kinda surprised there is no deepsea welding simulator
that shit would be spooky
I mean there kinda is
How the hell do you even go about building something like this? Jesus. Constructing a regular building is hard enough, but doing it in the middle of the ocean?
Ask Andrew Ryan
the fish help as you can see in the pic
They're assembled onshore before they're shipped out.
That's sick, do they move these things in huge planes like EVAs?
They construct them on land in segments that then get installed at sea.
Oil rigs give me the same fear as airplanes. I understand the engineering behind them is solid, but the thought of being suspended in a giant machine which, if it fails, pretty much means guaranteed death for you, is horrible.
>hich, if it fails, pretty much means guaranteed death for you, is horrible.
unless the hull brakes to pieces you can still glide for extra 60-70 miles even with total engine failure? Even with hull damage certain cases have managed to keep flying like the nipp who lost its vertical stabilizer or the hawaii plane who lost its roof
Then I hope you also don't get in cars, trains, or apartment buildings. All of these things, given serious engineering failures, are guaranteed deaths.
How do you think Andrew Ryan felt?
They're built on land, for the most part. That ones that use concrete are tested in shallow waters, than towed to their destination, lowered and filled with concrete.
Most platforms can be moved, and if I take a little trip out with my boat, I'll often see a platform being towed. If I head north, I'll see a whole pile of them. I guess the do maintenance over there.
A picture I took a few years ago. There were four of them in the area.
Aren't many rigs actually floating and are only anchored to the sea bottom?
Yes, if you're unlucky enough they can also flip.
>oil drilling is one of the most dangerous jobs
>oil drilling but what if while also floating on rough seas!
Genuinely my worst nightmare.
this isn't the ocean ranger, but the alexander kielland accident in norway 40 years ago. And it was just a combination of mistakes though. French manufactory fricked up the welding, as usual because french are as good as the chinese at anything at all, and the americans overloaded the entire thing with more accommodations than it was designed to carry.
Modern day rigs are more secure than any military base in the world.
>Modern day rigs are more secure than any military base in the world.
You say that until the next one blows up.
don't worry that won't ever happen as oil rigs will all be shut down to stop climate change, two more weeks trust the globohomosexual plan.
>Dread Hunger
yes its called tension leg platform, also how a lot of offshore wind turbines are secured
yeah, subnautica is nice but there really needs to be more games like it instead of amnesia clone 37
based
I immediately started hearing this
SOMA
>Did you see that?
Only way out is down
>Camera goes dark
>one says "hey, don't mo- and gets snatched by an unseen being
>game lets you stumble around with very minimum light
>there's a thump
>headlamp flickers back on
>it's your buddy with his lower half ripped off and his eyes gone
lame. Just means you are dead too. the real horror will come from the noises and ambiance. Finding scratches and signs of life the deeper you go.
That's what I wanted to get at but didn't feel like writing a wall of text.
Plot twist is the people down there were the missing minors from years back that unlocked some sort of fricked up gas. They were buried and the mine continued operating.
>missing minors in a coal mine
a horror game in a chinese industrial setting, nice
I'm eons late to your post but I want you to know I appreciate what you did
Experiments gone wrong, some sort of monster, undead miners, etc. You could do a lot, but you'd have to try to make something different. My thing and my idea is having the game dark, like your headlamp is always close to dying. Some light, but not much. The idea of using little light and more sound is interesting to me but not the quiet and THEN SUDDENLY REALLY LOUD OH SHIT thing.
>missing minors
So you're being hunted by a predatory e-girl?
Oh no?!
>Plot twist
The thing about mines is that the actual horrors of working in them will never he used in video games to their fullest extent
>cave-ins and unsafe structures
>claustrophobic conditions
>constantly dark
>constantly wet
>fricking hot as hell
>or even cold as hell
>unbreathable air
>the air you do breathe being full of silica
>electrocution
>falling down a mine shaft and working over deep pits in general
>getting crushed by machinery
>possible flooding
>the cause of your death being covered up by your employers because they're scared of MSHA and lawsuits
problem is that a lot of these hazards are just standard video game hazards.
>>cave-ins and unsafe structures
conditions
dark
wet
hot as hell
>>or even cold as hell
air
i tried subnautica recently and that shit really captured claustrophobia with the ship wreck searches. runnin out of frickin air while being totally turned upside down inside a ship like that did me in.
too bad ocean shit is just not fun to play in.
also explosions from dynamite and blasting caps
Any games that have extremely detailed and deep mines? Like, claustrophobic sections but also some areas that are large and deep?
Made in Abyss scratched that itch for a few segments, specially the parts in Layer 3 that had absolutely no light in them. But I'd want a full exploration game, metroidvania sized, with just cave exploring.
Some sections of the deeper chalices in Bloodborne were really cool too.
They're not mines, but the caves in The Forest are pretty much that.
Pretty good game overall, too.
Arx Fatalis is a high fantasy FP-RPG set entirely in a subterranean world. An atmospheric masterpiece if you ask me.
Penumbra: Overture was set in a mine
What about a VR game where you have to move through small passages and remove rocks with your hands?
abandoned mines are scary. Fricking tommyknockers man
?t=721
I would lose my fricking shit if this happened to me jesus
>can't hear anything
>WOW CAN YOU HEAR THAT ON THE CAMERA
I literally have my headphone amp turned up all the way and can't hear shit when he's silent.
Listen at 12:44
Sorry, 12:40
There's literally only a one second of silence where what I assume is echoes, but he doesn't stop talking or moving so it's so short that I don't know how anyone can be afraid of this video. Like maybe if he actually shutted up and you could hear something creepy for over a minute I could care
I'm sure the guy kept talking to stay calm himself
Mines have the problem of being relegated to mazes in video games. Would love to have a cave+mine horror game.
Seems like a good idea actually. Like an RE/Ocean horror hybrid.
An antarctic research station, like in The Thing. Doesn't have to be in Antarctica precisely, but I like the idea of a low-visibility freezing storm raging outside the whole time.
Penumbra was cool
did cold fear get removed from steam? I swear I had it on my pc
I clicked the the store page button from the game in my steam library and it appears to be listed still.
Extermination is pretty meh
Not exactly this, but one of the best horror experiences I've had with a game recently was "The Long Dark".
It's not even a horror game it's a survival game set in the Alaskan wilderness, but that environment is just so masterfully done and it conveys the sense of loneliness and fear of the unknown so well.
There's also Disaster Report 2 which is set in an futuristic Antarctic city. But it's also a survival game and not really a horror.
there was an indie horror game that was set in this type of setting and it did a good job with frickin with your sight. things lookin like other things.
horror games need to do that more. have objects that look like people so you turn a corner and are uneasy on what you are looking at. i think visage did a lot of tricks like that with drapes on the floor or on walls that were shaped very human like.
just a dark snowy forest is a great setting if done right. I Remember This Dream did it perfectly, frick this shit
Not exactly scary game either despite having all sorts of monsters, but it really nailed that feel of the winter nights up here
ohhhh yeahhhh I meant to play this and then forgot
That's just Northern Canada, and the scariest things are the drunk/high Natives. It's comfy otherwise.
1840s wooden ship in the arctic in the middle of winter with limited food and fuel to last.
Already exists, it's called Dread Hunger.
>Dread Hunger
>hat dlc pack
>it's just two hats
>9.99
Naw dog, I'm good.
Give me your best horror game ideas now or you get the shooties
I've always wanted an RE MMORPG. That's about it.
Masquerade party, everyone is in costumes and masks and over the course of the evening people start talking oddly, some people disappear, and weird shit happens in general. Don't go in the wine cellar.
Wasn't there a Thief level like this? The first one I mean, not Age of Steel. First one is the one with all the spoopy supernatural stuff.
the fricking second level of that game was where I noped out.
>first level
>robbing a mansion
>frick yeah I am the night
>spooping guards and running behind them to loot their shit
>second level
>you are not the night
>what the frick is that a skeleton I didn't sign up for this
>IT LOOKED AT ME
>dead
So basically the Mask of Red Death?
not him but a game based on it or taking hard inspiration could be interesting for visuals at a bare minimum
>Missouri mid 1800's
>You find a manhole in the middle of the forest
>Entering in, it's dark and just big enough to straddle a pipe and hold the lantern
>Can't really see, but can sense life around you
>At the end of the crawlspace, a nook with a stone.
>As you reach out and grab it, the life that you've been detecting was a giant wasp hive, except, the stingers are sharp like razorblades
>Grabbing the stone awoke them
>As you rush to get out, they swarm and carve away bits of you and by time you reach the ladder up again, you're just barely holding in your own intestines, slipping on your blood to climb out
This was a nightmare I had many years ago.
Physical horror is for fricking brainlets.
A game where you play a normal human criminal who has to commit crimes and then evade and survive superheroes trying to find you. Like Alien Isolation but instead of a Xenomorph you have to try and hide from an unhinged Superman or Batman.
Not horror but are there any open-world games where the police (or police equivalents) that show up to stop you have superpowers (or superpower equivalents)?
The Crackdown games I think escalate to that point, or close to it. I remember as the game went on, especially in 2, the enemies generally got a lot more advanced. Saints Row 4 might also have had something like that.
There's a comic book or graphic novel called Leaving (or Surviving) Megalopolis where there were lots of superheroes and villains in the setting but they all went psycho and started killing everyone they saw. It's a pretty creepy idea, having to survive against someone with superhuman strength, speed and senses. Kinda like the vampire stories where they're dangerous predators and not sex objects.
>game set in a small town
>alien crash lands
>your job is to hunt the alien before the whole town is toast
Check out The Greyhill Incident. Coming out this year. It looks like it is shaping up to be Signs: the Game. The aliens even make some creepy sounds like in that movie.
They better not be weak to water, that shit was a stupid "twist", if you can really call it that.
>earth literally a wet mudball
>aliens have interstellar travel
>so obviously they have technology to detect that
>still come here anyways
It was because functionally and allegorically speaking, the aliens in the movie were biblical demons. The water sitting around their house was holy, because he's a priest. The whole point of the story is a man struggling with his faith.
huh, so that's why the movie is called Signs.
Holy shit! This completely kinofies this film for me now after all these years
>stuck on alien planet when its inhabitants figure out you're weak to arcenic
Actually it's that in the original script they were actually demons. The UFO lights were just a trick.
t had the DVD with the commentary and deleted scenes.
umm that's xenophobic chud
They Are Here looks way more promising. Makes the Greys come off as violent and gory fricking monsters, like Altered's Scout
Why are we not shooting the bastard?
Hi Joel!
you play in a surreal world of warring fractions consisting of vaguely humanoid monstrocities where each one of them tries to recruit you to their cause and ideology. if you act according to one fraction's ideology but another fraction member sees it you get punished in a variety of ways, from getting jumpscared, to your relationship getting worse, to getting visibly permanently crippled to the rest of the game, to a game over. there are no good guys. no one is in the right, they are all just selfish animals trying to use you for their delusional or egoitistical goals. you cannot trust anyone but your own judgment. just like real life.
Survival game where you're in a city infested with horrific giant monsters and have to fight with other humans for resources while avoiding the attention of said monsters. Imagine beating someone to death with a lead pipe for a can of food only to turn around and see something out of your nightmares staring at you through the shattered glass window. Basically I would want to simulate the fear rats must feel when we go into the basement to exterminate them. No plot (well maybe a plot), no railroading, you live in this ruined city with a dwindling population of NPCs, survive as long as you can. Maybe try to escape. It'd be super fricked and bleak.
The Year: 1985
Setting: Chinese City
Scenario: You are a new born baby girl. You must survive.
Go!
skyrim but with guns but in space but with xenomorphs but called necromorphs
farming game set in a small town like harvest moon or stardew valley where most of it is your average life simulator game but strange things happen around the town you can discover as you play
things like a cult controlling the town kidnapping kids and doing human sacrifices, strange noises you can hear at night coming from the forest, finding your cattle dead and half eaten in the morning, some villagers starting to act very strangely like something inhuman is mimicking the way a human act...
the more you get deeper into the town's dark secrets the more things start get fricked
undersea diving and you have to avoid succumbing to delta-p

SCP/Outlast/Amnesia inspired game:
You're a prisoner. You're sent to work : cleaning an underground compound of classified documents You make the acquaintance of another prisoner who says he used to work in the compound. He says that the only way "civilians" would be allowed down there was if they were going to get killed considering the sensitive nature of the documents you'll come across of. He says he knows the structure and proposes to team up to escape. You go together deeper into the compound to flee the guards. The underground isn't massive by any means, it'd be structured in floors of believable size but you'll have to figure some puzzles out to go deeper. You start realizing there's something horrible hidden at the bottom of the compound that he's trying to reach.
Specifics to be determined.
--
A game where you have to go into people's nightmares and help them. Hopefully it would have really horrifying creepypasta type aesthetics with real horrible monsters and a general blurry/incoherent/discontinuous feeling to the game as in real dreams.
--
A game where you're a compltely agoraphobic neet who spends his time spying on people through his window, you have to strategically pick when to sleep or whatnot, you can record out of your window with a camera, you have to budget your money (could be by blackmailing one of your neighbors you saw having an affair for example). The idea goes that a plot will unfold before your eyes involving a cult, your goal being to collect information without being found out.
>you play yourself and have to go to a party and socialize
Manhunt with a Dementium-like setting, no ranged weapons and permadeath.
I've always wanted a jurassic park horror game. You're left alone on the island after everyone left. The T rex and raptors hunt you. A type of Alien Isolation game where you creep around the Ingen labs corridors and you have to hide from the raptors like in the first movie with the kitchen scene
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1460210/Compound_Fracture/
might be up your alley
>set in a fake atomic bomb testing town made of mostly bare wood shacks with mannequins everywhere
>walled off by a high ass voltage electric fence
>you are a american ww2 era soldier with limited ammo and gernades
>you are not alone as the town is overrun by fast zombies
>good luck
You play as a guy working in an office. Every day you wake up at six. Shit, brush teeth and go to work. Every day you go to work and sit in a chair. Every day you look at the same people and do shit that literally means nothing, while watching your boss suck up to someone higher in the chain. You have a lot of free time to surf the net, hell even watch a movie at work. Not too bad? Suddenly five years pass. You are still there. Pay us okay, but you are literally in the same chair, doing the same shit. Day in and day out. You stop really trying and just do enough to get shit done. The colleagues you didn't mind before start to really annoy you with their little schemes that they hide behind a sleazy smile.
Five more years pass and you are still there. Your blood pressure is terrible, you openly detest everyone there and just go through the motions. Filling out reports, answering the same questions over and over again, hearing the same bullshit for the millionth time. Suddenly death doesn't seem too bad.
Cool thing frightening, soul crushing stuff like that only happens in video games, right?
Man, I just want another resident evil game about kooky geniuses going buckwild at a hidden dilapidated lab making another stupid zombie virus variant that leaked.
>Gameplay based on the Hitman sandbox stuff.
>Game set on giant resort
>Can explore anywhere, tons of mini games and activities
>Game has calendary based system, days pass even months depending on how you play.
>Everything is fine at the beginning but something always seems off
>Things excalate as day pass or you find/do certain things
>There's a cult on the resort and mad scientists with a hidden laboratory
>You can search shit from day one or let days pass and see shit happening naturally.
Cold War, some Eastern Bloc country, you're playing as their intelligence agents and are investigating their greatest murder cases, but cranked up to eleven with horror effects.
Whatever you do can be used against you or your family. Even if it results in the death of an innocent man.
Metroid Fusion Prime.
I want to do a love letter to the B-17 segment from Heavy Metal.
It's a normal American City. But the Rapture happened. Millions of souls left for Heaven, and Demons roam the Earth.
But instead of a climactic final battle, Heaven just weighed anchor and fricked off somewhere.
That was 100 years ago. Humans and Demons Co-exist, except the world is under one Government ruled by either the Anti-Christ as Emperor for life, or a Anti-Christ Imperial Family.
Humans are split between Second Class citizens, and collaborators with the Demons who rule modern society. Tho not every Demon treats Humans like shit.
The game is essentially a Disco Elysium of sorts, exploring this Hell on Earth and navigating an Alien society. But in some forgotten houses, moldy basements, and rotted woods; more twisted demons, more twisted and cruel than the "City Demons" exist; some want nothing but to rip and tear, pulp and smash anything to a red smear. Others will attempt to impregnate you with their spawn.
The greatest threat however; are the Daemonic Anomalies that were created when Hell rose (Think Stalker anomalies except they manipulate human psychology based on the individual; seeing your greatest fear, or something like that).
something about the soviet era Chernobyl nuclear plant situation but not in a supernatural STALKER-type way but more grounded in the radiation threat way
I'd make a mascot horror type game called Scrungle's Puzzle Basement or some shit, something like you know FNAF, Poppy Playtime, etc. Very much with that modern sort of "this is only wearing the concept of a horror game as a disguise to sell merch to children" type thing, you know what I'm talking about, marketable horror plushie type shit.
However, the actual game would be super horrific. Realistic gore, torture, sexual mutilation, etc. I honestly hate what the genre's become and you can rag on me for being pretentious but I'd want to make a statement on it. I'd make it clear that this is a game for adults, that the merch is for adults, etc but you can be sure kids will hop on the craze because it LOOKS just like a typical tween mascot game even as I put the content rating at the beginning of the game. I'd want to basically bring the concept of "fun colorful mascot turns le evil and hurts le children" and make it affect children in real life. They go in expecting the typical faux-scary but actually safe lore and theory ridden type shit but go in to see Scrungly rape a woman with a bladed penis until her realistically modeled guts leak out. It would exist only to sucker in people who like mascot horror and then give them night terrors.
>Realistic gore, torture, sexual mutilation, etc.
Already been done, no one will find that scary. At most, people will find it gross but you will attract sexual deviants that find it hot (and still not scary). Welcome to the modern horror video games.
>Already been done, no one will find that scary. At most, people will find it gross but you will attract sexual deviants that find it hot (and still not scary). Welcome to the modern horror video games.
Yeah because they're marketed to those people. The intent of this project would be to inflict it on children who, despite the ratings, would think it'd just be another Bendy and the Ink Machine or what have you. To make a modern equivalent of clicking on a link to a funny pic your friend sent you and be redirected to the Funky Town face flensing video.
Children these days have grown up watching mexican cartels behead people. No one will find what you're doing scary. This is the state of horror video games that you cannot do anything about.
That's because you live in a curated information bubble thanks to online algorithms guiding you to communities which share your interests and tolerance to snuff videos, including younger people who were similarly guided. However, there are bubbles of people living in their own information sphere which may as well exist in a completely different, alternately curated reality, which would be the target audience. The mascot horror surface serves as an innocuous trojan horse which would allow the game to penetrate the curation bubbles of communities which DON'T get their kicks watching cartel execution videos, and muddy the waters of the safe hyper-marketable mascot "horror" genre.
Are you stuck in the 90s or early 00s or something? Everyone will know what your game is the moment it's released. People who have "curation bubbles" (i.e. parents that monitor what their children watch) will not just fall for it when you can do a google search and see it's just gore porn. Sorry anon, but your idea is just too outdated.
Online game where you play alone and have to fight against monsters that like to slowly hunt you down. Not directly aggressive, but will stand in your way and slowly approach you if you don't do anything about it.
Everyone starts alone and has to fend off a few of the creatures and the game slowly adds in new types, like ones that sprint at you and yell or other behaviors.
The gimmick becomes that at some point you'll cross paths with other players. At that point you can work together, kill each other for supplies, whatever. There is however, a small chance that the new player added to the instance will look like a monster to all the other players causing possible craziness to occur.
Basically in the end, you'll want the players to worry if the monsters they have to kill are actually other players and the game takes effort to have the AI of the monsters mimic common player actions. Monsters hide, run at you, or just stare at you from afar.
And maybe at some point one of the people playing can choose to become a monster disguised as a player just to throw another thing into the mix.
>like ones that sprint at you and yell or other behaviors.
oh wow, not directly aggressive enemies that sprint and yell? how fricking horrifying
Well trying to convert "Player running towards other players saying nice things" into something that could possibly come off as aggressive looking. It isn't exactly original alone though.
I just like the idea of what you see is not what people playing with you possibly see in games and think it's underutilized.
It's hell to pull off in this day and age when you can stream or otherwise talk with the other people outside of the game though.
game takes place in an enormous underground amusement park that used to be a movie sound stage which used to be a bomb shelter that used to be a mine which used to be a cathedral. during each iteration of it's life the giant hole found immediate success followed by great failure, abandonment and reincarnation into another failure. none of this is really explained to you, just shown via jarring changes in the environment and a few clues.
the protagonist you play as seems to suffer from extreme autism or at the least communicates nothing to the player besides whatever his goal is with no real explanation of why that's his goal. he'll just autistically mutter something like "need....silver rock and knife" and you get a pop up of OBJECTIVE: GET SILVER ROCK AND KNIFE. as you're going around doing whatever fetch quests you're being compelled to the protagonist suffers from severe migraines when you get near bad places.
"bad place head hurt get sick it's here" is something the protagonist mutters before the light sensitivity and nausea kick in. getting close to it is very bad
>enormous underground amusement park that used to be a movie sound stage which used to be a bomb shelter that used to be a mine which used to be a cathedral
Fricking FINALLY, I've been looking for an excuse to vomit this idea somewhere.
Antarctic survival game.
Not so much "the long dark" as it would be a completely different design.
You're stationed at a research post as a one man "skeleton crew" for the period of time where the antarctic ends up covered in endless night for a month, all you're expected to do is keep the lights on and the heat running by going out to refuel the generator once in a while.
For food you've got an old rifle to hunt seals (and no I don't care if they don't actually go that far in land) as well as some existing stores.
The horror comes from other research stations, every night there's a check-in from every station over radio just to make sure nothing's gone wrong, things start to get uneasy when one station fails to check in for a few nights, you can hop in the tundra vehicle that's on base to check it out, but that'll cost you gas.
If you do, you find something really sketchy, which I wont explain because that'd completely ruin the idea.
If not, another station decides to go, then they stop reporting shortly after, and it just starts to spread.
Eventually, you start finding footprints in the snow outside your station, snow starts moving in strange ways when you're looking out the window, the generator randomly just stops working sometimes, and things just escalate from there.
>2
The game would take place on a large map, mostly empty, but with the occasional spot with a research station and a few other things hidden.
Idea with this is that the play would have to plot a course and mostly stick to it, because if they move too far from the way they came, the tracks they left will have been covered in snow, meaning they don't have a way to tell how to get back.
Other stations would have people at them you could interact with in a limited capacity like asking if they've noticed anything strange or check in to see how they're doing and if they need supplies or could offer them to you.
The whole theme of the game would be that you're being hunted by something that knows how to use the tundra and the darkness to it's advantage.
Win conditions would be to either stop whatever shady shit is going on or to survive until the month long night ends and the rest of your team shows up again.
Not too bad
>single player horror
>control character onto London circle line, underground
>train approaches the stop “Monument”
>instead of being the train line, it’s a gothic castle in a hell scape
>everyone from the line runs for the gothic castle as the sound of rabid dogs close in
>the game centres around escaping back to the normal world and from the evil that runs the castle, the enigmatic “Fool”, a jester like character
>similar in gameplay to silent hill
>you can rescue the other members of the train from elaborate traps to get the good ending
>final task involves destroying the “monument” atop the castle’s peak
Only got this idea recently after visiting London for the first time, horrifying enough
London is horrific enough as it is you are making it worse.
A VR caving game where you need to squeeze through smaller and smaller gaps and your character gets visibly more agitated and starts breathing more heavily if you get stuck. There is not monster or supernatural shit, the cave is slowly flooding and you simply need to find a way out.
I see you saw the internet historian story about the american guy stuck in the cave.
I've seen it but it was a while ago. Also, that video isn't really relevant here because you're supposed to keep moving.
Caving is the one thing I do not understand why anyone would do it. Just looking at pictures of people stuck like this
makes me feel sick. We also have no good way of rescuing people like this, why the FRICK do people do this.
my friend does stuff like this and cave diving.
they are addicted to the adrenaline and he says he loves seeing new things.
Think that's bad?
There's people that do it UNDER WATER.
Apparently you can see some really unique sights, but over all, I don't think it's for me.
>one minute longer at the greatest depth
>1h mandatory decompression steps
Something like that. Shit is bonkers.
I read that as carving and I'm now legitimately wondering why we don't have a VR carving game.
the technology required for a solid object to realistically shed material as you carve would be insane.
we only just recently have snow that can deform from things trudging through it.
also whittling real wood as a hobby costs literally nothing, why the frick would you want to do it in VR?
Deep Rock Galactic doesn't seem to be too far off in that sense. It has terrain destruction and creation and i don't think it would take too much to make chipped off material fly and drop behind you in the form of loose rock that can be picked up and dropped into a minecart.
The technology is there
Forgot to add the pic.
A horror game that completely flips the usual theme of darkness hiding the unknown and tries to be scary in a completely light flooded and sterile environment.
Imagine standing in a wide empty brightly white glossy room and you see some dark figure standing at the other end of the room.
Imagine walking through a warmly lit corridor and the next time you return to it you notice its slightly darker and colder, setting you off for something being wrong there.
I really like the oil-platform angle.
Just have it be really decrepit and run down. Not necessary to explain how you got there. It's just barely functional. And the ocean outside is dark and stormy. Really push on the isolation and also the immense nature of the platform, mix of claustrophobic corridors and vast spaces. Maybe even some non-euclidean geometry.
Add in spooky world building about what happened to the crew. Maybe they drilled too deep and hit a pocket of something, first idea was a forgotten pocket of the life-giving magic or energy some cosmic being used to shape the earth. but no need to explain too much, I hate too much explaining. But also subtle signs that some at least are still around. Maybe have the rig leaking the fluid into the ocean, making weird tragic creatures that need it to live, unable to cope outside. Imagine strange malformed legged fish with hollow eyes scittering up the rig's legs. And the crew are broken shells, pale and delusional and warped. I would want interactions with them to be unpredictable, the strange fish and creatures could be the generic enemies, the crew more like recurring monsters, or companions even.
Other than that just emphasize exploration and ambience, and cozyness. Make the rig really sppoky and uncanny and huge, but with small areas of safety where you can set up camp.
Meh. Platforms are too cozy for a horror setting.
I want a survival open world game where you are a captain of a ship and your exploring the sea with your crew trying to survive after major flood hit earth. You find lost civilizations and you come across different enemies etc etc. Th
Kind of sounds like a mix of Barotrauma, Raft, and Sea of Thieves.
Would be kino, but most settings could work, just depends how well the devs work with it.
why are zoomer so afraid of ocean
like I would just grab onto the largest piece and swim to safety
>freeze to death
moronic zoomer
Urban exploration/urban legends.
Not the gay kind. The Death Mark kind.
Seriously, why isn't there more of this urban legend shit? Death Mark had it right on the nail, with the kind of desolate, quiet corners of a city getting reclaimed by malevolent forces. I was hoping NG would double down but that was more like a modern adaptation of old folk tales, which kinda sounds the same but really isn't. Anyone else excited for the third game?
>Anyone else excited for the third game?
There's gonna be a third? I wouldn't mind, first two were very entertaining.
Really looking forward to the third one, I hope the ghost designs are good, NG had some underwhelming ones. Most memorable was the crane girl
I was interesting in this until I looked it up and saw it was VN.
>Urban exploration/urban legends.
INFRA, although it's mostly focused on the urban exploration part.
Monstrum takes place on a drifting cargo ship and is basically the closest thing to a horror game taking place on an oil rig as far as I know.
Whatever happened to monstrum 2? Did they shut it down yet?
The Kowloon Walled City. There was 1 shitty indie game a while ago but no others. Could be a good place for a semi proc-gen dungeon crawler where all the residents have been turned into monsters and have bleeding tendrils protruding from their eyes and mouths or some shit
This is such a perfect setting for a video game that I'm really shocked only Stray has done it
It would be great for a fast paced 3rd person shooter.
Nah it's too cramped and there's too many twists and turns, it would be way better as a hardcore dungeon crawler RPG with strong horror elements. Cramped settings and winding tunnels demand slower more methodical gameplay
>Nah it's too cramped and there's too many twists and turns,
That would be awesome though, really play on the claustrophobia and gritty environment.
Spoken like someone who hasn't played Ready or Not. That environment would be horrifying in a tactical shooter.
Check out Stranglehold
That's where Shadowrun: Hong Kong is based and the plot is centered around a spooky thing going on there.
a shame the vast majority of the game takes place in the safe areas outside the city, and you only get to tour through a small part of it for the finale
True... Still, it fits the bill of what anon was looking for.
I'm hoping to see another entry in the series.
Why is it called a city? The view of it makes it look small. It's about 2-3 blocks from end to end.
it was a 'city' within the city of kowloon. the cops refused to enter it so you could find every kind of business under the table there and entire unregulated industries. the population density was so insane that it probably had a population to rival entire districts of the city proper.
I wish we had high quality footage of the place. I'm really trying to imagine how it was like to traverse the city. Is there even anything like this today that hasn't been demolished?
if that level of ingenuity/desperation on such a mas scale exists anywhere in the world today it can only be in China away from prying western eyes
It was extremely, and I mean extremely densely populated in 6.5 acres of space. Was estimated to house between 33,000-50,000 people, or over a million people per square mile. For reference, Manhattan has ~70,000 residents per square mile.
i prefer the manga
bro you just described Halo 2
meant for
it was literally a setting in Shen Mue 2.
I was just thinking about that but I feel like they never really did it justice. they never refer to the walled city directly as I recall, and you go into some dilapidated, run down & abandoned buildings but it's all very wide open and spacious.
I was talking to my dad about Kowloon the other day and he said he's been there. Even showed me photos. He didn't romanticize it like you see in media and other shitposts these days, he just said it felt like a really really poor part of a Chinese city and didn't stick around for too long.
This is the location for Slither from Bokeh Game Studio
Why cant cities be this soulful?
Rich people were too jealous that the poor, so disgusting and trash, could create a city more soulful than they ever could, so they demoed it as they don't want the poors to have anything
What do they eat? How did they maintain it?
The silent hill/forbidden siren people are literally making that game. Its called Slitterhead.
Theres Kowloon's Gate for the PS1 it's a pretty neat little adventure thing.
Kowloon always looked extremely cozy to me. The only problem I can imagine is the constant smell, considering the leaking pipes making everything wet, rusting, rotting or molding.
heavy industrial equipment is frickin cool.
That could be great to use in a Miner horror game, those big miner saws are intimidating. I've seen one IRL, they're huge.
That recent mod for HL Alyx has a chapter set in one, fricker's HUGE
Borderlands had one too, that was a pretty cool area to have a boss arena
You'd have to do something where you'd have to escape it, that's when using loud sudden sounds would actually work. It would be a jumpscare, but it would have to be done well. Build that tension and paranoia, release.
I visited a lot of great European art and history museums, but nothing impressed me so much as a sign of humanity conquering nature as old steel converter furnace. I spend 40+ minutes just walking around it and trying to just grasp the scale of work to be done to make it work — research, design, build, install and operate.
If any one of you ever get to Vienna —check out their Technical Museum.
I'll ask them if they remember that weird guy who spent an hour muttering and fondling the furnace
The sat divers in the bell underneath it.

Triangle (kinda)
>cruise
NightCry, made by the original creator of the Clocktower games. Kinda shit but in a funny B-movie way. Donte from DmC also makes a cameo in it.
literally every single cruise ever
Cruise ships are horrible in general: can't leave until you're at a docking station, and usually must put up with bad food. But the real horror on a cruise ship is the other people.
always makes me think of world war Z were there's a bit about ships that got infected and slowly overran before just becoming floating tombs
A haunted mansion in the middle of the woods.
Unironically.
>Name a better setting for a horror game.
I played Deep Fear and SOMA and found both underwhelming, anything else like it?
Never played DF but I liked SOMA.
Narcosis
I just watched episode 1 of The Rig and it was awful. they start implying some supernatural bs at the end and it just comes out of nowhere after an hour of pretty practical rig technical stuff. my dad and I watching it are both former rig hands though so maybe we were overly judgemental
It literally mentions "supernatural" in the show description, how were you not expecting it?
we didn't read that lol we just saw a show about rigs
i watched it all after hearing about it in this thread
first two maybe even thre episodes were kino
gets worse from there even the typicall current year propaganda
still worth a watch
i likedd the scottish accents

Just swim away from the monsters
unironically being a black trying to evade KKK would be pretty kino

anybody remember a sourcemod set at night in an antarctic research station where a black mist that didn't like light or something was chasing you?
Frick I know exactly what you're talking about it's on the tip of my tongue FRICK
welcome to the game kinda does modern actual horrors right. same with condemned to an extent.
mortuary assistant is legit frickin creepy, though. horror needs to be more unsettling and uncanny nowadays. i think were all fricked off from the jumpscare shit nowadays.
pair this with caving and you get that video of the guy pinched during the cave flooding stuck where the waters flowing straight down, unable to pull himself out of the suction due to the pressure of the water pulling around him and slowly sinking further cause his grip cant hold
scariest fricking thing i have ever seen, in my life.
post the crab
>Watch me swooce right in
art museum
Eternal Darkness comes to mind
There's a reason why all the best horror games take place in small town America.
I always thought a proper disaster simulator should be made. Where you try and survive real disasters. Fires in hotels, ships sinking, that kinda shit but commitment to high realism. You could add all kinds of twists - in buildings it might be after earthquakes, on ships yo might add a fire or the lights failing, etc.
It's always interesting to read stories of this stuff in real life and wonder how some survived and others didn't. A problem would be trying to separate the experience of someone who say works on the oil rig and so should know the layut better, versus someone like a visitor.
A closet. There's a skeleton inside.
Now that is too much. Australia and Germany would ban it before release.
I work at a paper mill, and it's pretty fricking creepy at night. I think any kind of run down industrial plant would be fantastic
My ass
Ganker. You just have to raise /misc/s iq average one point, that's the game play
I always wanted a game set in jurassic park. I love the mix of lab/man-made facilities and wildlife. Or the matrix. Hovercrafts and swarms of robots in tunnels are great. Are there any horror/action games with these kinds of industrial settings?
WWI bunker
Wasn't there a game like this but in the trenches during WWII?
you're probably mixing it up with WW1, WW2 "trenches" were nothing like the shit you saw at verdun
Probably, yeah.
Overlook like ¨empty¨ hotel during winter.
the good old castle, it's just perfect. I love amnesia, most atmospheric game I've ever played
Based. Only games I've played with oil rig-like things in them are MGSV, just cause 2 and destiny 2. More games need them.
SiN had an oil rig level. CS 1.6 had an oil rig assassination map, and CS:GO for a brief time had a really cool oil rig demolition map, de_blackgold, you can probably play it on a custom server. Doom Eternal has an oil rig (kinda) level in the first DLC.
came here to mention destiny 2. I absolutely loved the oil rig aesthetic of that planet, it was very reminiscent of a futuristic take on the platforms in the north sea.
then they sunsetted all the content i paid for and effectively ended my interest in that shitty franchise for good.
I remember there was an easter egg on that planet and the subsequent dungeon where you could see the shadow of a large serpent. Shame it never went anywhere
they never should have sunsetted titan, it was such an insanely cool world space and had so much potential for cool story beats if they wanted not to mention being the most enjoyable indoor cqc spaces for strikes and quests
The Abyss isn’t horror but it’s pretty underrated for a James Cameron movie. It’s about deep sea shit.
I do love the aliens turn out to be friendly trope
Kaiju destroying a big city survival horror fricking when?
It's not exactly that, but Our Elusive Suffering might scratch that itch a little bit
god that game filtered me hard
looks dope, will give it a try.
However, I'd really like something like Cloverfield from the military's perspective or the civilians' perspective. Shit would be so cash, especially if the monster spreads parasites.
gem
I don't know why they never did this with the Disaster Report game series. It seemed like a no brainer to me to make a Godzilla crossover game with those.
they literally did, only released in japan though.
>kyoei toshi
City Shrouded in Shadow did that but its a japanese only movie-game on the ps4
I have never seen a still of the cloverfield monster. Neat
this would actually make a really good setting, if the water and weather was seriously fricking good looking
Surprised no one has posted the Troll A platform being towed yet
disintegrating space ship
Those early seasons of the walking dead were pure kino.
You mean season singular, right? Season 2 was a complete fricking shitshow that was the origin of most of the show's problems.

>Awakening from the dark abyss of sleep and into reality, you are welcomed by the boring white ceiling of your humble abode. The alarm clock has screamed you into wakefulness and slapping it into silence has become the norm. You arise upright, stretch your stiffened muscles, and proceed to the closet, changing into your work uniform. While doing so, you oughta scream "Frick oil!" to notify any of your affiliates who might be exiting from their nests, just to raise spirits for the dreaded morning call. However, there's no reply, no sound, except the gust of wind coming from your ceiling fan and the crash of waves against your window. It wasn't like this before... The telephone rings, it's ominous bells reinforcing the butterflies in your stomach - something is not right. You answer. There's a desperate and familiar sounding man on the line. "Hey, hey! Get the frick out now... There's no time! We'll meet you at the helipad!" Just as you put down the telephone, you hear a slithering mass slide down the hallway outside your room. I think it's time to leave...
Any airplane horror?
I kinda remember a horror game I played years ago. You were a schizo trapped on an oil rig or a small artificial island of some sorts(maybe mining?). Anyone else remember it?
Deep space (or the deep sea). Man-made structures aren't even remotely as scary just like humanoid spooks aren't remotely as scary as non-humanoid ones.
I just want a horror game that uses the medium better
What I'm talking about is incorporating permadeath
So let's take the premise of The Thing - a team of guys, any one of them might be an alien mimic, nobody knows, hostile wilderness, trying to survive, paranoia etc.
You could make it like the PS2 game, where it's fairly linear and you play through the same levels each time.
But what if you include permadeath?
>start playing as team leader
>have to juggle your men's morale, trust/suspicion levels and health conditions, while keeping them alive and trying to find the alien
>let your trust level get too low and one of your team kills you
was he the alien? Or was he human? You don't know
>instead of a restart screen the game continues
>now you control another team member, not the one who killed you
>game continues until all the humans are killed/assimilated, or you manage to kill all the aliens and one or more humans survive
>so if you delay and the alien manages to assimilate more characters the game could end after 2-3 deaths, but on easy mode the alien takes longer / gets less chances to assimilate
>ending screen gives you a timeline / screenshots of all the events that occurred, and when e.g. "on day 3 biggs was assimilated in the library while you were outside turning the generator back on" etc.
Then for NG+ have an alien mode where you have to assimilate humans, using basically the same trust-managing gameplay
It's not rocket science but you could make a great game out of it, yet it's barely been done. And this is made good by incorporating permadeath, which makes your actions have real consequences and adds tension because you know if you die, you don't get a restart screen
Fricking love permadeath mechanics
>Dude, LMAO, what if ... AMOGUS ... but you're the only player!
It was just an example to illustrate the value of permadeath instead of using death restarts which are more suited to action games
Pripyat Exclusion Zone
I want broad daylight horror (in minecraft). Imagine just being outside like normal but there's a creepy frick chasing you.
Clearly not American.
Could be good, but sea platforms also seem like they could be peak comfy.
The classic haunted asylum or mansion.
Setting for horror game;
>Survive without triggering anyone in a Social Studies for Social Justice schools in California...
A space station or spaceship, like System Shock or Alien Isolation.
Purgatory
school
While the movie was not that good, something based on the movie Virus (1999) either on a ship or oil drilling rig would be nice. There was something about computers turning people into horrible cyborg abominations that really stuck out to me when I saw it back then
INDISPUTABLE FACT: For horror games to start being scary again, they need to stop being made for at least 10-20 years. Everyone has been desensitized to them, and at this point there's no amount of body horror you can put into it to make it scary--it's just gross.
it's look bleak as all hell and is covered in toxic fog. a hostile atmosphere both literally and figurative
Pathologic already exists *~~
This isn't "scary" per se. It is like being thrown at a magma pit.
Garanteed death and that's it.
Sure, dying is scary. But what makes something actually scary is the faint chance of survival.
Abandoned industrial facilities are peak horror settings. Whether it's some frickhuge steelmaking facility or an offshore oil rig
i actually would like to get lost in one of these. comfy misery.
why do horror games always have to exposition dump or explain the monsters as aliens or extra dimensional or nano machines and shit? Why cant they just let the unexplained paranormal stuff be unexplained paranormal stuff?
post 30 examples?
deep sea horror when
only if you play a child or woman
I just cant get into horror where you play as a bulky man
you should be defenseless in a horror game
Anyone here waiting for this?I mean the gameplay might not be perfect but at least sharks do try to behave like real ones and you even have dolphins companions to help you we will see in 7 days
Is this a prequel to depth or something?
I always wanted something like this but that doesn't rely on multiplayer so imma check it out.
No,to death in the water 1 who was arcade shooter i mean no movement beside right left up down, this one is fps and you can explore the map fighting sirens, fish more fish, sharks and ofc boss the kraken the atmosphere is great too hope it's good and we get a good deep water game
I want The Ocean Hunter but semi open world and with this level of graphic fidelity. There is nothing cooler than delving into the depths, being scared out of your wits by sea monsters, then taking the fight to them and conquering them.
Just watched a playthrough an this game is horrifying enough as it is. There's something very spooky about ancient deepsea beings.
Maybe this game will be good since it's out in 6 days, hopes high anon
Nice
Which game is that? Looks interesting, kind of reminds me of Depth.
>pro-dolphin propaganda
dropped
There is a movie from the 90s which takes place on an abandoned oil rig where they were doing secret genesplicing experiments and they ended up making more or less the thing but a giant shark/ocean monster version. iirc they beat it by getting it addicted to heroin and feeding it a bunch of plastic explosive inside of a giant bag of drugs (yes, really). i think its just called Creature
>tfw no comfy game about weathering storms in remote, exposed locations like oil rigs
I know you'd need something else to make the gameplay work but it still hurts...
just operating the rig and doing maintenance should be good enough gameplay no?
Could a horror game take place in a vore setting? Or a long portion of it?
maybe
Isn't that Scorn?
Set it in Felarya as an unironic survival horror. I have been more unsettled reading vore fetish comics than I have watching actual horror films.
I find it pretty impressive that a vore comic has so much effort put into the lore and world building and whatnot. It doesn't appeal to me at all but hats off to the guy
The true horror is that the fanbase are morons that just want more vore stories and don't care about the lore. I am in your boat where I am not into the fetish but it's sad to see an autism setting project squandered by a fanbase that can't appreciate it.
Tribal Hunter world but you don't have any inhale powers and must survive
the mystery flesh pit national park
Yes basically.
The best example is from Pathologic 2 but it doesn't last long and is not horror themed.
It could work based on the few paragraphs I've read.
the game is all about surviving in some girls apartment as she hunts you down and wants to devour you
I was more thinking about the levels being live giant lungs or brain, though the main way of dying would be for the protagonist body to be assimilated into the giant animal.
crowd crushes are pure IRL horror
Just don't allow your self to be pushed and walk through people, it's worked for me at conventions for years
Over 100+ people died in that crushing accident anon, i bet you at least 1 person tried that
Abandoned school in abandoned (of humans) city.
what about horror walking simulators?

Lagos. Go look at it in street view. Its fricking horrifying.
doesn't look that bad
if it were filled with white men i'd be comfy
Cold Fear is kind of close, though it's on a big ship in a storm (initially? I think it might be on an oil rig near the end but I can't remember.)
I think photorealism or at least dense visual clutter has promise for underwater "horror" games. Making the player paranoid about looking for signs of danger.
>Name a better setting for a horror game.
real life
you can do almost ANYTHING but all you do in the game is sit on Ganker
Space
Literally everything tries to kill you, something so unsuited for human life and so much yet unknown makes it perfect for horror games
anyone who watches this going in blind is in for a fricking wild ass time
that is a ridiculously well cut trailer to avoid all spoilers
Pretty sure that was actually the first platform to detect a rogue wave, Imagine being on one of those, looking down from a window, then watching the water level below you drop 30 feet just for a wall of water so tall it goes over your platform to smash into it.
These things are fricking terrifying and I 100% agree.
Ocean Falls, British Columbia. Mostly abandoned town nothing left but abandoned buildings, but it still has a fully operational minimally staffed hydroelectric power plant that's not connected to the rest of the national grid. Only way to access the town is by float plane, or boat that only shows up every couple weeks to bring the mail. Loads of abandoned mines in the nearby mountains. One of the most isolated places in north america.
Some black project shit going on over there.
>BC
Was probably the pickup/dropoff point for grow-ops in the woods.
Since they legalized it, the ops have likely been mostly abandoned, though the fact that the town's still there and still powered is a bit strange.
I've heard there's some shady shit in the woods in BC, from literal CCP FoBs to whackjobs that'll butcher you for stumbling on to them to drug plantations to god knows what.
I don't think most people appreciate how sketchy the woods can be if you pay enough attention to them, other than maybe /k/.
What do you mean there are no roads?
not really no, theyre WAY the frick out there
